Best/ worse/ ? did you learn today? #80 visit with friends..

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

Stacey, do they give the chemo even though they've lost so much weight, and have no strength? I know someone who's going through this right now, and they've found 2 c cells in her brain. She can't eat much, or drink, and has no bowel movements in 2 months. I'm really afraid for her.

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

Yeah-they did it-she did eat alot when she was feeling good-about 5000 calories a day

Fostoria, OH(Zone 5a)

Yes, Betty, I got your lovely card and the key and sorry I forgot to thank you. It was so nice of you to send something for me along with Cedric.
I haven't mastered the card technique but I am still practicing. Keepting yours in a bag with the makings so I can show my craft friends.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Just didn't know Janice if you thought it was to travel along with Cedric and Bailey...

Making it through the day, between Suzanne and I is a coughing/gagging day! Got to come in tomorrow it's payday, then Friday last day of the week so must come in then as well..lol

Our new legislation started today 'weedless Wednesday' that anyone smoking inside a car where there are children can get charged up to $250.00 fine.. so now we have fines for leaving vehicles idling for more than seconds which I still do, don't smoke so don't have to worry about that fine...Judy, you still aren't smoking are you, how about you Liz, did you give it up..our Carol also gave it up last year...it's a celebration day for all who did quit...

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Some of you will get tired of reading this as I am short of time and just pasting to my main threads. One of those days (or more)...Curves with MIL this morning...not good as everything ached BEFORE I went...Mum isn't feeling well today at all and is staying in bed...need to check on her often, I am sure worried about her, ...Laura needs to talk to one of the Tenant Legal Groups today about their housing situation...her DH is working days today so I need to take Sage to her visitation with her mother...I got roped into doing a flower arrangement for one of Church Lady's Son's Memorial Service that is tomorrow...then my neighbor across the street (in her 90's) has her hair appointment in the morning, mum usually drives her, but I got news for her...she can't have her car keys back until the Doctor says she can drive as it is her right knee that is bad...that is probably going to be awhile...I try not to think about it but I fear this is just the beginning of a very long and difficult road...

It was up to 38 at noon!! A real heat wave but I am still freezing!

Waving to all....will try and catch up later!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Trisha, sorry to hear about your mom...sounds as though you've quite a schedule going on...you best be careful or you yourself will get run down..

Victoria Harbour, ON

Drats/drats and more drats..just looked at the calendar and realized this Sunday I registered for a class on 'Valentines Card' Making..how depressing is that..lol..don't even have a sweetie to give it to..lol

Yay! $1,000 bucks with CA scratchers! Woo Hoo! A tattoo of her baby's hand isn't bad. It's the tramp stamps I don't understand. I'm not a fan of tattoos either.

Betty you have got to get to feeling better girl! Maybe you should take a sick day Friday if you're not feeling a little better by then. LOL I know I would!
You had a St. Bernard? I bet those are good dogs.
Smores are delicious, and rich!

I think I'm going to start doing the best, worst, learned today.
Let's see, the best today is a new President
the worst today is co-worker not helping me out and I'm getting stuck doing her work, I don't make enough for that.
learned, laughter is good no matter who around you hates it.

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Oh Betty, you're so sweet you can keep the Valentines Day card all to yourself, from all of us here!

Ain't that right Everyone!

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

I keep starting new posts because I'm trying to clean out my personal email on another tab. What a mess I haven't been into it in such a long time!

I am sorry about all of the cancer and knees and all the other what-not. Thoughts and Prayers going out to all of you.

Happy Birthday to your 101 year old! Now that's something. Wow!

Cold here too. Today is the 10th anniversary of a record number of tornadoes in one day, back on January 21st 1999, 56 tornadoes touched down in 15 counties in a 4 hour period. That's basically what's on the news, oh and the new President of course! Yay!

Laura that will be nice, a drive along the coast. I miss those days from CA, mainly because I lived 3 hours from the coast. No coast here!

Glenview, IL

Best...Reading everyone's post today.
...Steve showing me potential resorts in the Georgian Bay area!!!
(Betty, will be d-mailing soon) teehee,
Hey...Liz and Kenny, Aswom news!! I am so relieved with you.
Anne Marie, woohooo Nice win...
Yes, Betty, I am so pleased to say...still I don't even miss them, how incredibly cool is that!
And, I was so glad to see you chatted with Ruby. I agree I thought you would be a fast talker too... LOL, but you are such a soft, loving spoken lady, always a pleasure to talk to...

Worst. Betty is still sick, Cost way over what we thought to fix vehical. Steves went down too...oh well when it rains it pours!
Bummer Aunt Muriel didn't recognise you...See you need some couching. LOL..
Jeannine, I am real sorry to hear about your friend. hug going your way.
Uhm...tons of money on vehicles!!

Learned: I still love to read about everyones day.
Crissy, sweetie!! That is so right.

I don't know how to copy with the box...But Crissy your quote is great!!

Crissy's quote: learned, laughter is good no matter who around you hates it.

Good Night everyone...Love to all.

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

Betty, I'm feeling bad, too. Nausea and sweats off and on all day.

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

You guys and your sicknesses are worrying me to death! I got into this thing on the Sweet Interruption thread about this old picture I have who I don't know who they are.

My mom is helping me figure it out with her genealogy. We have been told our whole lives we are part Cherokee, then my mom found out that we are Chickasaw. She recently discovered that we are Cherokee and this lady lived on Chickasaw Territory.

Here's the picture in question.

Night Night everyone! I swear, this is one of those nights where I could just sit up and talk to myself all night long.

Thought I'd drop in or a few seconds..arrived home at 5:27 and in bed by 5:40pm..took meds..wouldn't be so bad if ribs didn't hurt so much..oh well, going around.. Sailor woke me up, thought she had to go outside but as soon as the door opens and she sees how cold it is, won't go..so now I'm up and it's doubtful I'll fall back asleep..you know me, don't need that many hours and I'm ready to go..maybe more meds will help..aren't I a whinner..

Crissy my St. Bernard was called Chico, loved him but boy when he decided to do that head shaking bit, there'd be spit everywhere... so docile..because I lived at the lake when I had him he was great, he'd watch over anyone in the water including me...he must have known I wasn't a strong swimmer so I'd be out swimming and he'd come and pull me back to shore, finally I'd have to put him in the house when I swan, not smart I guess, maybe he knew more than I...there were 2 young children up the road who would come and torment him and I could see that when they were near the hair on his back would rise...then came Roger's death and he became extremely potective...one morning Roger's brother Robert came to visit and opened the door quickly saying 'hello'...Chico was under the table at my feet, jumped up and bit Robert...guess he had about a 5" gap, needed stitched and it was difficult for me to control him as not to bite more...I decided that although he was no more than 5 I'd still have to put him to sleep...this was probably about 4 months after Roger's death so it was devastating...the vet really didn't want to do it..he asked if I would go home and think it over...when I called back in 2 days and said I had thought about it but with all the children on the lake I would never forgive myself IF something happened to any of them..that night the vet called me back and said would I agree to having him given to a farmer???? I said I didn't want the responsibility of him hurting anyone, if they give give him away rather than put him down I didn't want to know...so not sure what happened there...I'll have to look for photo's for you crissy..he sure was a beauty..when we got him they gave us the little barrel to go under his chin..so cute...

That's a lot of tornado's Crissy...let's hope that record is never broken...good luck on repairing your computer...I wouldn't dare touch mine..gee whiz took me all day to get msn downloaded again because my anti virus just installed must have taken it off the system..couldn't live without my MSN Chat at work..lol..my way of keeping up with family and friends...

Judy, OMG more than $2,000..did they call you to get you to approve the additional cost? here in Canada if they didn't there is a law you don't have to pay...what went wrong with Steve's car...

Laura, how about we do a sheet for January..anyone who would like to do one (rather than procrastinating) we'll do at least one sheet at the end of each month..that way we'll have 12 sheets if we don't do more in our album...now you had a great idea for a theme for this month..was it 'smiles'???? A ride along the coast..what an end to a day..lucky you...

Audrey, sorry to hear you are not well..do you think it's the 'flu' bug? hope tomorrow it will have passed..what have you been working on?

Bev, how are you doing?

It's that time, off with my hot chocolate then see if I can fall back asleep, morning comes early..

Best of my day...have a cousin who has lived with a hubby who is at least tripple her size who thinks she's a punching bag..mom told me this aft. that Bev has moved in with Aunt Muriel..she's tried to leave several times but ends up back there..let's hope she doesn't

Worse of my day...seeing lots of signs of confusion in my mom from time to time..she called me several times today..one was with regards to converting Canadian $$$ to USA $$$ now she knows how to do this, she had doubled and almost trippled her figures..I went on the computer system 'conversion' and gave her the figures..nope, I must be wrong because a friend of hers said for $500 usa it cost her almost double..so again I tried to explain finally gave up told her a trip to the bank would clear that issue up..lol...then a few other times she'd ask me something I'd tell her and she wouldn't agree..just not like her..guess part of the stroke has made her confused so best I get myself some patience..hard to see someone you love start to go down hill..

What did I learn...have to have patience with the guys in the Toronto office as well..talk about confusion..don't think they talk to each other and both call me for clarification of specific client details..shaking my head!

So nice to read the Best/Worse and What did I learn today..brings out some interesting hilights/lowlights I guess you'd call them...

Night/night everyone...

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Betty, I'm in one of those moods I could talk to myself all night long. I'm still not in bed and I don't wanna go to bed LOL! I got all hyper and can't calm down, and I'm repeating myself.

Too bad about your Chico, that happens a lot with protective dogs, I didn't realize St. Bernards were that protective. I guess that's why Dave wants a mini Doberman Pincher, they're too small to do any real damage. I had a Samoyed when I was growing up, that dog was so smart but afraid of it's own growl. Seriously, he growled once at about 6 months old, ran under the table, and Never growled again, even during tug-of-war. Strange.

I had a Great Dane/Black Lab mix for a bit, lots of slobber there too! Broke up with my boyfriend and left him there, I didn't have room for a big dog in my little apartment.

Tiga's telling me it's bedtime, she's sitting in the hall where it goes into the living room, cooing. Okay!

Love the photo Crissy..hope you get more details on them..handsome couple for sure...geneology investigating is so time consuming but end result worthy of the work..not sure young children today are as interested..when both my boys were married they received a Family Tree book I had done which went back quite a few generations..had fun doing it...

As for photo's my grandmother used to write behind each and every photo and date it along with some details....nice to look back and see who is who..

Every once in awhile I go back in my photo box- ohoh yep big/big plastic bin filled with photo's..now I know Laura and Bev why we should start doing a sheet from time to time..anyway, nice to look in the box..haven't done it for years..some memories are still too painful..

Going back to my initial comment, isn't it strange when you hear just how poor many of our ancestors were (perhaps not yours) but in each photo they are so well dressed? probably saved all year so they could have family photo's taken...

Is the photo you posted framed and in your home? Should be...

Victoria Harbour, ON

Well Crissy I'm going to try and get back to sleep but you never know, if I can't I'll be back to gab...you best try to, you work tomorrow remember...lol

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Mom says she thinks this is a wedding photo from 1860 or 1870 something. The frame is original and is falling apart big time. It was hanging in my grandparent's home but didn't survive the move. I thought my mom had it, I don't know how I ended up with it. I'm going to buy another frame for it, the picture is looking pretty shabby.

Apparently she lived in the Chickasaw Territory in Oklahoma in a Cherokee tribe in a teepee and he lived in a very, very small shack.

I know what you mean about your mom, my mom's getting pretty argumentative and confused lately, and she's way way too young. I emailed her a scan of the picture, the same thing I posted, she kept telling me the man is Indian and the woman is White, I don't know what picture she's looking at, but not by my eyes. Then she said she's Mexican, I don't think so. And then wanted to tell me that Frost isn't an Indian name, therefore she has to be White. Eye yey yey. Anyway, Mom's going to look more into it tomorrow. She Thinks these are my great-great-great grandparents, but she's not sure.

Wow I'm starting to yawn. Have a good sleep everyone and see ya tomorrow sometime!

Love ya!

Hello All; I wish I could have some words of wisdom to help you through the winter sickness and fever....but my thoughts are with you :). Cancer is an awful thing. It gave me the worst years of my life through my mother...yet I know some folks beat it and I am hoping that pertains to your coworkers and friends. Anjl - Thanks for the welcome! Betty - I do think you are right with the history of the battle of New Orleans. I read the entire thing tonight. I should probably visit the site soon since I am so close. Tomorrow is supposed to be sunny and clear. I can't wait to get to the nursery. My DH says I have to wait until March. Betty - if you ever plan to visit New Orleans again, let me know. I have been trying to post reviews on tripadvisor.com. Good NIght Everyone! --Mary

Victoria Harbour, ON

Best we say prayers for some of the mom's..my boys are probably saying the same thing...lol

Didn't sleep most of the night, too much hacking, then come 5am and I could sleep like a baby..isn't that always the way..

Mary will check that sight out..how marvellous you are writting articles .. One year I purchased a book called 'Travelling I-75' was you read through almost every exit it would tell you history, what was there and if any site worth visiting was in the area..think they went as far as 20 miles off the main highway..I so enjoyed it..of course it took a lot longer to get to Florida but I learned so much..went to the little town they did "Fried Green Tomatoes" and had some, looked at film photo's..walked the town....also stopped at the 'Body Farm' although you couldn't go right into compound, the history and the value of having such a farm for forensic purposes kept me in awe...I understand on the market there are other similar books by same author...Travelling I-95..not sure how many more..will have to check it out..

Your talking of New Orleans is giving me to urge to travel that way again..still waiting to talk over going south with the boys at March Breat but doubtful I'd take just a few and not all..I'd feel to badly doing that, so unless all were able to go, none will...

Crissy can't see much indian in him but I do see Mexican in the lady...please don't go purchase a NEW frame, go to garage sales, auctions etc. and try and purchase an antique one to do it justice...

Liz from Ireland called last night to check on me, couldn't talk, kept gagging so we'll chat on MSN this morning...

Off to get ready, guess I'll make the entire week, would never have believed I could...

One more post and off I go..

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

MORNING!!!!!

Crissy-I LOVE tatoos-don't have any, but have plans for one-a beautiful fairy done in the style of Nene Thomas:)

Betty-I will be your valentine:) DH doesn't celebrate as he says it is a holiday just for the hallmarks of the world, so I will be you valentine;)

Victoria Harbour, ON

OK Stacey, now I have a reason to make the cards..sick or not..lol
Valentines Day was always a special day for us..celebrated it more than our anniversary..miss that..If I start feeling better next week might make some valentines day cards and on the 14th which is a Saturday go the Penetang Seniors home that grandma was in and gie some out..I'm sure that some of those poor souls don't have anyone at all..think it's a must do....

Goodness it's around 0 this morning and it feels like spring..is snowing but ever so lightly..

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Morning everyone. Looks like you were up most of the night. Please take care.
Betty, it sounds like your Mom may be having more strokes with all of her confusion? My Dad was like that, evertime he had another stroke, it made him rally confused, and he did not know who his own wife was. Please get her to Dr, for some testing. She may need more coumadin, or some blood thinner to keep her from having another one!
Take care of your self also. Just think about what you would be telling us if we were sick!
(((((((((((((HUGS))))))))))))) to all.
LK

Glenview, IL

Good Morning!

Crissy, I sure hope you will be able to figure out who is in the photo.
My Steve has been writing the history of his family as well. They came from Poland.
He has some wonderful old photos...Anyway, maybe you could find a frame from an antique shop.
That would make thae photo stunning from they time period., Just an idea to play with.

Betty, Oh my I am sorry that nasy cold insists on running its course. Well, not much you can do but take it easy.
Vitamin C!! And please try and drink some water, at least a cup or two. lol wouldn't want to shock your system.but water is good.

A whole zero, wow a heat wave out there! lol...we felt that way the other day. ice is starting to melt...Whats today, Thursday, ohwah, think it's to be in the 30's! Still only January...
Betty, yes the mechanics must make a call before any work is done to a vehicle. Steve hit a giant pot hole, and it messed up his whole steering column. The repair guy was amazed he even got it to him. He was extremely lucky. Geesh. So picked up my van and turned his in. Both are ready to roll again...and tadah, my window works again.
Oh Betty, not sure if I answered but nope, still not smoking.

Wonderhug, woohoo, you will start a craft. Can't beleive, well yeah I can that you still haven't gotten my package. Found the receipt and it was sent in October! Anyway, Will be neat if you decide on the friendship quilt...Wow 100, oh how nice and warm is that. LOL, makes me want to be in a bit of shade. Now, yikes the snake would have scared me silly as well. So your new gardens will be in containers?
There are some really nice container gardening and you can have them in all different heights too. Sweet!

Hi Carol, whatchya up to today?

Well, today I will be working on basement, sigh, what a mess. Got to fill the feeders too. Plus need to get back into my walking.
Yikes, I think I gained some pounds, just not too cool at all.

Was sorry to here about your St. Bernard. They are wonderful dogs and yep highly protective. My old babysitter has them and she does foster several. Jacob still goes over to play with the pups, and occassionally walks them. They are absolutley adorable. As are all puppies.

Having another cup and I begin the day!
Enjoy yours, and i hope you are all Well.

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

OK Betty-I will see what I can make and send to you for Valentines:) We have never in 11 years taht we have been together celebrated valentines...so I guess this will be my first in a long time:)

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

He's from Europe, I don't know where though, I want to say his mom was German but not too sure. We don't have any Mexican in our blood line from any direction that we know of. We're straight up Texans and Oklahoman who migrated during the dust bowl era to CA for farm work. It seems my grandfather knew these people.

My dad's parents, mom we don't know, her blood line is still in CA all the way back to 1810, then my aunt passed and no one else is working on it. His dad's from England from some point in time, again in Ca back to late 1700's and nothing.

My mom has a lot of her history, I gave her something to do that might make her forget about her pain for a bit.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Crissy I'm amazed at what information is available through the internet..takes some digging but it's there..and yes, think it's mom's problem as well, not enough to keep her busy..she has always been well let's just say busier than I and now she tires easily..my SIL looked up on the internet the meds she was given and all her symptoms are the symptoms that are med. related..she's an appt. next week to see if they can try another...she is still making her porcelain dolls though...

Was just on msn with my sister Sharon, she's off to New York City on for the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show at Madison Square Gardens..will be h eld Feb.9th and 10th..her dog Inuk is being shown on the 9th10.... Inuk is on the 9th..it will be televised on the Monday night..I'll surely have to watch...hope this event takes her mind of Rhonda, she ran away again...

Judy, I know some of our municipalities or provincial highways have a program that they will repair your vehicle if that much damage has been done...maybe you could check it out, worth a try..congrats on still not smoking..good luck with the basement...never ventured downstairs was I was visiting...

Baton Rouge, LA

Hello All; What a crazy week at work and I'll be glad it's over tomorrow! I hope you ailing folks are all doing much better. Betty, you have the attributes of a teacher...you are making me want to learn more! The Body Farm is in Tennessee, correct? I loved the movie "Fried Green Tomatoes", then read the book, which I loved as well. It's written by Fannie Flagg and set in Birmingham Alabama, which is near the area my Mom was originally from...and coincidentally...the disease that the friend died from in the book... was the same that took mom.....pancreatic cancer. Another coincidence....my mom, who was living in Florida when she got sick...ended up at UAB in Birmingham for her surgery and chemo. It's a beautiful hospital.....the most beautiful hospital I've ever seen. Where did they film the movie? Was it Birmingham as well? How old are the "boys" (Grandsons?) and where and when do you think you will take them? Usually this time of year I am full of vacation plans...and on travel websites and budgeting vacations...but strangely enough...I have nothing planned. I might just "play it by ear" as my dad used to say. I love the idea of the "weedless wednesdays". I printed out an article about smoking for the teens to read and apparently secondhand smoke is just about as bad as the original. Congratulations to our Lottery winner!

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

OMG what a day!

Work was busy, came home, Dave slept until 8 and told me as he was getting ready he got 1 hour sleep today, then 3 hours this evening between 5pm and 8pm. He had put a big garbage bag on the front porch to take with him to dump in the dumpster at work (we have no garbage service out here.) As he was leaving he added a small bag to it, plus he had his wallet, keys, and phone with him. He got out to his truck and said, "Where are my keys?" We started looking for them and I asked him, "Did you drop them in the garbage bag when you were adding the other bag to it?" He snapped, "Why would I do a stupid thing like that?" I responded, "Because you're tired and human and these are the sort of stupid things tired humans do." He snapped once again, "That's really stupid, I wouldn't do a stupid thing like that." I have searched everywhere, even went out with a flashlight and looked in the gravel driveway after he left, his keys are not here. I just hope he gets off of his tired arrogant attitude and takes time to look in the garbage, I bet ten dollars to a doughnut they're in that garbage bag, but if he doesn't he just lost the Master Key to his truck, my key is a Valet Key.

Then I get on the phone with my mom to discuss the picture and she emailed me some other pictures she says are the same people, but I don't think so. She still swears up and down he's the Indian, she is white. Eye Yey Yey. Every time I try to give a reason why she's not the white person she starts talking very loudly over me, like, "Your Wrong and I'm not going to let you prove yourself right!" I should be used to this by now, this is the way she was when I was born and raised with this. Then when we're getting off of the phone she says there's a real good picture that she didn't send me and won't send me, but it resembles them very well.

Anyway, I'm posting the best picture I have, Do you guys think these people are the same two that are in that really old photo? I'll post both of them so you all don't have to go searching.

Betty I told you to stay home Friday, If I have to mother you I will, so there! I would stay home, why not? You're just going to make it worse, and I agree with Trisha and Laura, Go to the Doctor!!

Here is the old photo:

Here's a newer photo. Does this couple and the couple in the post above look like the same couple to ya'll?

Thumbnail by crissyr
Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Here's another picture, of supposedly the same couple with their brood. Bessie was my great grandmother, I have no idea which one she is in the picture. Note the female sibling's names lol!

Thumbnail by crissyr
Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Chrissy, look at their noses and at the eye structure. The most recent picture you showed of the couple looks to have been taken around 1950 or so. If the first one of the couple was taken in 1860 or 70, then in 1950 the couple would have been married for 80+ years. So I don't think the black/white one is the same as the sepia colored pictures. I know a little about photography and can pretty well tell when a photo was developed based on the tones of the color. I also know about clothes. Having taught photography for many years, I had to take a bunch of courses in it.

So my hunch is the pictures of the couples, are of different people. I can't tell about the one of the family group.

A sure way to tell about such things besides the color tones is to look at the facial structure. The width of the nose, the slant of the ears, the shape of the eyes. Those things don't change much over the years, particularly how far apart the eyes are on a person. Ears rarely change, except in an accident. Same with noses.

Anyway. Good luck with the ID!! Nice looking pictures, in any case.
Sorry about your mom!
