Thank YOU Sharon...a wonderful article!!!!
Betty take care of yourself and get to feeling better!
Morning/Afternoon all......have to run, have a luncheon today....but speaking of all our wonderful Furrbies I wanted to pass along this bit that was posted on SI this morning....talk to you later......
Over the weekend the doting owner of two young lab mixes purchased Cocoa Mulch from Target to use in their garden. They loved the way it smelled and it was advertised to keep cats away from their garden. Their dog Calypso decided that the mulch smelled good enough to eat and devoured a large helping. She vomited a few times which was typical when she eats something new but wasn't acting lethargic in any way. The next day, Mom woke up and took Calypso out for her morning walk. Half way through the walk, she had a se! izure a nd died instantly.
Although the mulch had NO warnings printed on the label, upon further investigation on the company's website, this product is HIGHLY toxic to dogs and cats.
Cocoa Mulch is manufactured by Hershey's, and they claim that 'It is true that studies have shown that 50% of the dogs that eat Cocoa Mulch can suffer physical harm to a variety of degrees (depending on each individual dog). However, 98% of all dogs won't eat it.'

Best/ worse/ ? did you learn today? #80 visit with friends..
Hey Betty, how are you feeling today? Better I hope. Glad you got your drive all cleared out!
I am not for sure about the quilt, but I will most likely just tie it. I have never quilted anything my machine or hand. Just get some yarn, and tie it off. I think with the 12 squares, it will make a nice lap throw.
Stay warm.
LK
Trisha that's horrible!! Thanks for the info, I won't be buying any of that.
Well, I got 2 fillings done today, I love this dentist, I had 1 shot and barely felt it!
Jeannine, OMG I'm sure she'll be conning you into it..hubby/divorce beside the point...she knows you've got a soft spot..mega work though..Hula sounds so loveable....she hasn't already been in another home has she? Wonder how many people who agree to foster end up keeping the furries?
Shar, off to read your article..read the snowman without snow, started to watch yours when we I finally found the live feed for the innauguration..just sitting waiting for the parade now..it's so interesting, been to D.C. maybe 4 times, when you see the landmarks and being inside several of them, you get a better grasp of the day...How does Murphy and Sailor take to Hula?
Linda Kay, I love tied quilts..do your feeddogs lower..then it would be easy if you properly base and pin it to get a nice dabbled effect...
Trisha, thanks for putting the info on this thread..omg one can't be too careful can you..
Called Aunt Muriel for her 79th birthday today, talked about 5 minutes said I had to get back to work..then mom called me, wants me to take her to Tonawanda, N.Y. shopping at the end of the month..she figures that it being right across the Lewiston border that if she felt ill I could head over to the Canadian side within a 1/2 hr...so back to Aunt Muriel, not concentrating here...Mom said she called her as well for her birthday, Aunt Muriel said some lady called and said she had to return to work, didn't know who she was..mom said could it be Betty, she said , of course not, I know Betty's voice...guess with this cold, my voice no longer resembles it...
Was on facebook and saw a photo of my baby..thought I'd share..
Busy watching live feed here on my computer and didn't go out to lunch, if I soon don't go it will be too late in the day..
It's really bright out although cold...
Shar, loved todays article..although I've painted christmas ornaments would never have thought of doing spring/summer ornaments with lightbulbs..Trish loved the victorian ones you did..
hiyas, yeah we all felt the same gardengirl........
no the orchidsare in pots so they survived.. but hte rest is gone and we are back to scratch.... sad i know as it will take a long time and a lot of money to bring it back but oh well.,
well i must get to work... if its quieter today i may get another chance to post.
cheers
OMG Laura, now I know you are feeling better, several cheerful upbeat posts today...goodness isn't it about what 4am in your neck of the woods?
1/2 hr to go..don't you just hate it when you are too stubborn to stay home and then watch the clock for hometime because you can't keep your head up...
Because I had my car today and Suzanne was still in a meeting I ventured out...tried the chicken place down the street..yuk..dry/dry/dry won't be going there again..but a few stores down in same mall is a scrapbooking store and Penningtons (big girl store)...odd, I'm a bit big for regular stores (or so I think) then at Penningtons, I'm too tiny..shaking my head..if I'd wear clothes I make I'd start to sew again..did make lovely outfits but then I'd put them on and feel like everyone knew I was wearing home made clothes..as if that should matter..old phobia from being a kid I guess when that was a no/no....
Quick post...Janice here I'm wondering where you are..imagine you've hoped a plane by now to celebrate your dad's 101 birthday..give him a hug from all of us...
Stacey, you ok?
lol yes i am feeling good at the moment... lets hope it lasts eh? im keeping an open mind thinking if i have a 'down' day that it will pass like everything else and things will get better again. i am trying to concentrate on good things and whilst its hard sometimes... i guess its hard for everyone at times.
its time i got back into some craft again as i am better when i am doing something...
x
Clapping my hands, yet another post...lol...
Can't stay with you this evening though..can't hold my heat up, coughing till I feel ill so it's bath, under the blankets to warm up and a good nights rest..
night/night
Good Lord willing, we'll gab tomorrow...or sooner if I'm not able to sleep..lol
Oh My gosh...
I lost you!!
LOL, wow and look at all the Chatter.
Good to see you in such hi spirits.
I am too. Many News today!
LOL, I mean as in new times, new years and wow first time new items!
Betty, i sure hope you are feeling well. Sounds like a bad cold, poor baby.
Now you get some hot tea to go with your jammies, snuggle warm and just rest, or sleep.
Sending big hug to feel better.
OH, good gosh, Liz, I have missed your stories. Holy mackrole would have had me bonkers.
So, my car has many issues!! Some 2,000+ dollars and she will be good as gold.
We figure it's not so bad since we have only had to oil change her. So, I guess she will be ready to roll
tomorrow as we havn't heard anything so far today...and now...lol you know what time it is? big smile.
What a day, watched the festivities from beginning to end...I don't think I ever have as an adult because I was always working.
An incredible day today.
So, roflol no cleaning for me today. well haha, just laundry...gotta do something eh?
be back with a picture ...
Betty, check us out on the Cedric and Bailey site. We are still at home but will be leaving on thursday for St. Louis. the family is taking Dad to dinner for his birthday at a grandson's resturant. Since we had two big parties on his 99 & 100th birthdays this will be quieter.
Have pics of my house, Lansing and some friends there.
Betty please take care of your cold!!! Not good being sick.................
Spent most of my day glued to the TV.........what a beautiful day!!!!
I have to say I had 2 bests today-1 was the inauguration which gave me a feeling of pure delight as I sat there thinking that we have FINALLY as a country been able to measure a man by his worth and not his skin.....and to see Laura, who has been down since I joined this thread several months ago, finally post and seem happier:)
My worst was Gita's post...I will miss her creativity, but I was upset by what she said. It is unfortunate when someone that I truly do think has a good heart, says something without regards for anyone else.....
Wasn't the Inauguration absolutely fantastic!!!!
And I agree with Stacey, it is wonderful to see My Other Laura posting and doing so much better, so sorry about your garden Laura, but hopefully it's replacement will be even better!!! I come from an area with bad snakes too and I do not miss them......here thankfully all we have are common garden snakes!
Just got a call from the Doctors office....mom has a torn Medial Meniscus:( The good news is that Group Health has referred her to Olympia Orthopedic so I managed to get her an appointment with the Doctor who did my husbands hip replacement.....he is one of the best Orthopedic Surgeons in the state and the Only One that I Trust!! But as a result the earliest appointment we can get is Feb. 10....but it is worth the wait to get her in with Dr. Wood.
This is not going to be a fun three weeks......Mum could be Betty's twin.....always going going going......and not happy about being told to stay off that leg as much as possible.
Judy..lovely gifts..perfect for the cottage..were they late Christmas gifts?
Your sister did a great job on the wall hanging.
I also have been glued to the inauguration on TV. So refreshing to see this wonderful family.
...so much hope for the future, in these difficult times.
Hoping Betty feels better after a good night's sleep.
Waving to Laura..maybe you should think about starting that freindship quilt that we all sent fabric for.
Glad you are in an up mood.
And I LOVE the fact that she is a strong counterpart-makes me proud:)
Why, all of a sudden, is everyone's knees messing up? My nurse said she may have a torn miniscis, too! I have an appointment with my orthopedic Dr. Feb. 9th. I've been in and out of bed all day today. Guess I'll have to do that till I find out for sure, Could be a pressure fracture, too.
Got my little phone yesterday! Haven't tried it yet, it had 73 min. on it and it was already activated. Motorola.
Hello All;
Betty - My husband had me enter "Battle of New Orleans" into the search mode at www.wikipedia.com. That was a battle fought with General Andrew Jackson, about 5 miles from New Orleans in Chalmette. Perhaps that is the area you have visited. I'll do more research into that soon. Someone else asked what "S'mores" are and I can answer that one! We make "S'mores" from time to time at this house. I learned about them in Girl Scouts around 8 years old. Usually around a campfire, you toast Marshmellows on a stick. You make a "Sandwich" out of the Marshmellows with a piece of Chocolate bar using Graham Crackers as the "Bread". Unfortunately another hard freeze tonight in BatonRouge. Good NIght All
♪♫♪♫ zippity do da! Zippity ay! I'm the happiest girl in the whole USA!! ♫♪♫♪
Today was my DDs 19th birthday, we had a small celebration here with my youngest son and my grandson and DH.... spent some quality time playing with grandson....who is now a pro at telling anyone and everyone "no,no,no" and shakin his lil finger at you when he does it! cutest thing! LOL!
Then had a meeting to go to, so stopped at my local grocer to buy some scratcher lottery tix.... and guess what?
I won $1,000 !!!! Yippee! This will help pay for the $1600. gas range we just bought on credit this week, but some of it will go to get my daughter the birthday present that she REALLY wanted, but I couldnt afford this year due to all my health issues and not working..... When my granson was born, she traced his hands and feet. Then decided she wants a tattoo of his tiny lil hand on her back with his name and date of birth in it. I am not fond of tattoos, but she drew up the design and its really quite small and very cute....so I told her if she was going to get it done, she was going to have it done professionally by the tattoo artist that I know. (dont want her catching hep C or anything!) well, we will be setting an appointment tomorrow to have her lil tattoo done.
Now the funny part..... when I was in labor with her, she was sunny side up, and her spine hit my spine with each contraction. This caused sciatica pain that would shoot through my back and down to my toes on each leg. This labor lasted 28 hours and I was doing it all natural! so, when she gave birth to my lil grandson and asked me to be her coach in the birthing room, I thought I was finally going to see a little revenge ^_^
well, needless to say that did NOT ever happen :( DD is a tiny lil 100 lbs dynamo who did labor all natural. labor lasted about 8 hours and she calmly sat on the bed indian style, rubbing her fingers and breathing. that is all! If I dared to wisper to her aunt, she would just "breathe, breathe, SHUSH!, breathe, breathe" but she never once cried out in pain, no cursing or swearing....the most she did was grunt a little when she was pushing, and she sweated a bit....thats it!
well, the funny part...... I will definitely get to hear some swearing when she gets her tattoo done! LOL! ahhh, a mothers revenge ^_^ LOL!
hope all my friends had as great a day as I did!!
{{hugs}} AnjL
OMG-I am soooo bad-I forgot to welcome Mary & Liz!!! Shame on me!!!
Anjl-that is too cool-why don't you come see me and buy one to rub your luck on so I can win $1000;) You think that works??
Morning, as I sit here hacking..gee whiz on the morning after an almost perfect day for all..so much to gab about this morning that I think I'll wait until I arrive at work ..
Will take me a litte longer to get ready..really should be staying home but NOT! Paul is in the Toronto Office which means I can get comfy in my chair, bring a blankie with me and rest the same there as I would at home, or nearly!
So many bests, not many worse for yesterday...we'll have to challenge the day and see iwhat our bests of today will be...
Off to get ready and if I do it quickly might come back and post re your 'yesterday'
Hot chocolate in hand, porridge in my tummy bed made and I said, nope, won't continue the morning ritual..not today..so here I am waiting for the washer to go off, have a warm and toasty outfit I love to wear that keeps me extra warm so within the hour it will be washed/dried and ready to wear...already feel better...
Judy, I love the pieces you received, neat way of doing a wall hanging using the rag quilt method..just got an idea for that watercolor quilt I've been putting off doing..were these pieces made with love sent to you as an early birthday gift? $2,000 heck that had to be the worse of your day...but as you say, if you've had the vehicle for a year with no repairs it's not bad BUT it's a lot of money all at once...you'll have to do all the children's chores to get their allowance for some time to make it up..lol..
Carol, great suggestion about Laura starting that friendship quilt..knowing that the material was sent in love for someone special..are you getting out swimming and dancing? Amazing how many of us Canadian took interest in the Innauguration of President Obama..must be the close link between we and the states...
Audrey glad you got your telephone..having an immediate link no matter where you are should you need assistance is a nice feeling..sorry you are not well today..I'm sure the specialist will find out exactly the cause..did you have the fracture checked? Paul yesterday was showing us all the blackberry..got one for his daughters and said both Suzanne and I should have one..says better than telephone and you can put 5 numbers as preference and no charges to telephone providing they are in Canada..I'll wait and see if the novelty runs out..if he's of the same opinion then I'll pick one up..both my boys have them..always doing pin calls and text messaging..in a way I think it's terrible, nobody uses their voice much anymore in a call or a computer e-mail/d-mail, no wonder we are losing our social graces....do you not think so?
Mary, thanks for the link, will check it out when I arrive at the office..only thing I can remember (drats to the hangover) is the reason the US won the battle is because even though they were outnumbered by thousands they positioned themselves such that when the mist of the early morning lifted the soldiers they were fighting could not see and yet the US soldier could, this made it easy to win the battle..little things are coming back..do know they had a plant/flower on that island that was almost extinct..charges could be layed if you took one..guess who was tempted..if I thought we would'nt have been strip searched getting off the riverboat I just know I would have...lol...as for the smores, think I'll make me some when I can have my backyard firepit..could bring all the wood from workshop out and have the kids over one day to try a 'smore' thanks for that bit of info..my goodness, before you know it with all your help I'll be a 'brain'
Janice, enjoy your flight today, will you be packing Cedric and Bailey in your suitcase or taking them aboard ...hope you have a window seat! Will be over to check the thread also when I get to work..
AnnMarie, nothing like ending a day with a 'win' such as you had..$1,000. see good things come to good people, no wonder you are singing it's a zippitti doo dah day..can't blame you..good luck with your daughters tatoo..had to re-read almost thought perhaps you were doing it to the baby..thought that might be much..pain/pain/pain....
Most I've ever won was just over $1,000. can't say it bought me my St.Bernard dog as I picked the dog up in the a.m. and went to bingo in the pm..and won..but like your stove the money repaid what I had spent on my puppy...
Stacey, see you are up early as well...bitter/bitter cold here today but not snowing at the moment..are calling for some though..have to check my registration for painting projects I signed up for..mom would like me to take her to Buffalo either the 29th of Jan. or 1st weekend in Feb. I marked the dates on my work calendar so will check it out..exciting part about going is I'll meet up with Debbie (sure hoping) and I'll also get a trip in Joanne's Fabrics...
Wanted to talk indebth with Melanie and Greg about March break and going to Florida but all I wanted to do last night was get home, get to bed.. so it will have to wait until the weekend...
Clothes ready for dryer, need another hot chocolate so off I go..
Won't it be interesting to see what our best of the day will be today..just like old times, reflecting on our day, finding the best, the worse and what we did learn? some things were pretty incredible when you thought of your day in those terms...
Waving to all who lurk, friends we've met or friends we've not yet met..drop in for a 'hi'
Mom isn't flying out until tomorrow:) She is working today...and yes it is freezing this am-supposed to get to 30 tomorrow-a real heat wave!!LOL
Morning everyone.
Betty you should be in bed. You don't need to wear yourself out, and you sure don't need to be spreading this crud all over! Then when it goes around again you you will be hit twice as hard. Sorry, I know that is what you would be telling us, if we were sick! Please take care. We are really worried about you.
LK
Morning all. Cold here this morning - only 14when I woke up. No snow though. They got it south of us yesterday. It's a sad day when North Carolina gets snow and Virginia doesn't! :(
I haven't done a good, bad, learned in quite awhile and figured nows a good time. For yesterday:
Best: We have a new President and I see hope for unity for our country!
Worst: Learned my dear friend here at work has stomach cancer and has to start chemo tomorrow.

Gardengirl(I don't know your real name)-my best friend had stomach and ovarian cancer about 5 yrs ago-they couldn't operate because she had lost so much weight she was 88lbs, so they did intensive chemo in her spine and she is now cancer free and has been for about 3.5 yrs now-just got remarried this last year and things are looking good even though she was saddened by the fact that she will probably never be able to have children...she was 26 when she was diagnosed and the only reason they found it is because she was vomiting for 2 days straight and went to the hospital..I went and stayed with her for 2 weeks during the chemo to help her out-I cleaned and cooked fro her and made her meals to keep in the freezer...she worked the whole time, just takeing the day after chemo off every time-so I guess what I am saying is that I hope that your friend will soon be cancer free even though she does have a tough road ahead...
Liz-it is Janice that Betty was talking about-she is my MIL and her DG name is ladydragon5. She is flying into St Louis tomorrow for grandpa's 101th bday:)
Here at work, ended up though driving myself in..chances are I'll not stay all day..part of a day in is better than none..
Liz, thanks for compliments on my baby Jeff's photo...I think he's adorable and very talented..lol but then I'm his mom, he'd probably freak with me knowing I'm putting his photo on a garden site..you know these mucho kids..he'll be 40 in December..don't know where the time flew..but, regardless of his age, he'll still be my baby...
Oh Jeannine, sure was hoping for better news for your co-working and friends...as Stacey just said, there is so much they now can do, we'll keep praying along with you that the chemo does wonders for her...such a young woman...yes, life is short..as the years go on if you at the best case senerio and with how rapidly each year passes by, doesn't leave a whole lot..best make the best of them...
Stacey you were an excellent friend .. not many would take weeks out of their life to go help out a friend.. remarried and cancer free now that's a miracle..
Liz, glad the news about DH came back with good results..liver is not something to play with, that's what Roger died from...
Betty-I was just thankful we had some extra $$ for the plane ticket and my time off work....she would have done the same for me:)
And Cedric has just the suit for it!. I came into work today and brought Cedric with me. Gordon, one of the older men I work with, is an antique toy collector and he brought in this WWI flying outfit for Cedric. It has a leather jacket and hood, a scarf with "Boeing" on it and goggles. I will post a pic of him in his outfit tonight when I get home. Everyone just loves Cedric and wants to have their pic taken with him. I think I am going to try and take him on the plane with me tomorrow instead of putting him in my suitcase. I usually put my suitcase through since I sometimes have to walk quite a way when I change planes in Detroit.
Cedric should fit in your gimongo purse mom...and how sweet of Gordon!! Does Cedric get to keep the outfit?>?
Yes, the outfit goes along withe him. Asked if he wanted me to pay for it but he said it was his gift "man to man".
LOL-man to man huh??
That was s weet of him to gice Cedric a new/old outfit. I bet he looks really nice in it?
LK
Thank you Fairy for that info.
Darcy is only 44, married no kids (by choice). She has lived thru crap for the past 10 years and I know she will make it thru this! Her DH has progressive lung disease and is quite young too. I know she is at the best hospital and I told her anything other then a full recovery is not an option. I really wish she was closer so I could spend some time with her. They are actually doing the biopsy today to confirm the CAT scan but from what she told me, they found several tumors. Knowing Darcy, she is hitting on all the docs and p*ssing off all the nurses! She is a trip and I do believe we were separate at birth (even though I am 4 yrs older :)
Anyway, thank you for all the thoughts and prayers and I know she will be ok.
Jeannine
Isn't it amazing Stacey and Janice, how people take to these little critters..I was actually surprised at their enthusiasm, although, I thought my boys might have me committed..(jokingly of course)..look forward to seeing his new outfit..Cedric sure will be going home with a suitcse full of closet items...Janice did you get your hostess gift that was included in the package..was for you not something to continue the voyage with..
Jeannine, Darcy sound fiesty..laughing at your thoughts that she is making a hit on the Dr's...lol..let's hope the news after her biopsy comes back with possitive feedback..wonder if there is ever one person who has not been in contact with the big 'c' in one way or another..very doubtful isn't it...tell Darcy she's many earthly angels praying for her well-being..
