I try to forgive and forget and get along with everyone. Spring here is just arround the corner. Are you in summer?
Just leaving the office...omg Laura just d-mail me...it's 40C..now what is that..100 and what....
Its 100 and....... TOO HOT!! thats what! hahahah
just think of all the poor sheep with that wool on!! oh my! lol
Hey Betty and others! Yes my potato vine took off. I actually posted a picture of it under 'ornamental potato vine' on DG. It's been quite a source of fun with my DH who acts like he 'hates' it and calls it "Seymore" (after The man eating plant in Little Shop of Horrors). New Orleans has a long way to go yet to recover. It's about 1 1/2 hour away...a nice little weekend trip. :) We took a German Exchange student down there...but my daughters enjoyed it the most. I guess it doesn't compare to Berlin. :) Anyway he's 17 so little things like beignets, Mardi Gras masks and the cathedral may seem boring. - Mary
Hello everyone, thank you for your welcome. I don't post that much but really love DG. My DH retired from the USMC in 1967 We moved here in 1980 lived in a little camper while we built our house. Took us almost 2 yrs. He died April 2008.
DH built me a greenhouse about 7 years ago. I have really enjoyed that. I don't do as much as I used to. Wish the summers were longer here. Two of our four children live near by. then one lives in Chapel Hill & one at the coast of NC Have 6 Grand children and 8 great G children.
You ladies are so busy, I could never keep up with you. I enjoy reading about all of you, so keep it up. Will be lurking and will pop in sometimes.
Very well stated Wonder! I have been waiting for someone with more tact than I to say exactly that. Thank you!
and LOL!! Too hot! LOL you all are going to laugh when I ask this, but how hot does it get down there in summer, in the 2 1/2 years I've lived here I've seen it get up to 108, which is the same temp it used to get in the Central Valley of California. Weird.
Oh shoot, I've been over to their house before, one time I had to tell Sharon something and they were going up the road to their house and I followed them! They had just gotten back from picking up her nephew and his girlfriend at the airport and went to Wal Mart, I stood there and chatted while Larry put away the groceries, their house is huge and beautiful! I just don't want to go over if she has worked all day, I could interrupt dinner and all and I don't want to do that. Maybe next weekend lol!
And one more thing, I love you all, love hearing about everyone's day, and don't any of you forget it!!
Mary I hope you stay with us and I want to see you over on Mid-South too. I visit, let's see, 4 or 5 different forums and lots of threads on each one.
And Liz I'm glad you have decided to join us also. Sounds like you're busy in your own right. I've noticed that it's easy to get caught up at certain times of the day, it's when everyone is off work that this thread really goes nuts! I bet you won't have that hard of a time keeping up. I was gone for a full weekend once, I didn't even try to catch up, I just kept on going! LOL
Great to have you here and lurkers are good. Am looking forward to reading more about you.
Evening, temps are dropping and I'm thinking of our Laura in 100 degree weather...Laura-make you a trade 1/2 of my cold for 1/2 of your heat...
LizH, truly nice to have kids living nearby..a greenhouse...how wonderful, do you have any pictures of it? You say the season is short, now what month will you be able to get some gardening done..no need to ever keep up, just dropping in with a hi is appreciated..
Mary, what a chance of a lifetime for that youngster to have visited New Orleans..want to know how many times in his adult life that he will think about his visit there and kick himself for not realizing it's historic value...
Many years ago and I told the story so I'll not go into it..but I took a group of seniors to New Orleans..had the time of my life..I don't drink but pressures of the day, urging of the seniors to relax I did..major hangover, probably why I don't want to drink, memory still stays...anyway we took a cruise on a boat to an island where the battle was fought..can you tell me the name if you know, would love to do some research..back then no computers but today I could learn the history...
Mary will your daughter now get to travel to their country as exchange students?
Tragedy in my area today..on the way to work we heard the fire department had been called to a seniors complex in Orillia (20 minutes away) .. tonight they say 2 have died, firefighters still battling the fire..let's hope all are now accounted for...
What amazed me most I believe is how you would ever put the amount of people who travel for Mardis Gras on that little french quarter street..yard at the restaurants and pubs were so miniature...must go looking for photo's of that trip, sure to have some...
Crissy what did you end up doing on your day off?
Stacey/Janice are you both sightseeing...know Janice has visitors, yep Cedric and Bailey finally made the trip..look forward to photo's of their travels...
Chilled so off to bed I go..but before..
Best...meeting new friends
Worse...hearing that Sharon's (sister) daughter Rhonda has run away from home again..Sharon is under much stress not knowing what to do..she does know that this young 16 year old found out her boyfriend was out of jail and left about 1 hr. later..not sure how she's travelling, where she will stay..disheartening isn't it...
How do you help...
What did I learn to day? once again the very same thing, the good Lord has been kind to me...friendships that warm the heart...know you are all a blessing?
Cross posted Crissy...hugs to you...
Evening all......Betty stay warm, Laura stay cool......we got up to sweltering 39 degrees (F.) for our high today.....didn't think I would ever get warm! Was sunny most of the day but the Inversion is still with us, by four we had pea soup fog and getting worse. At least we are in for the evening at this point!
Hope Gita finds a good thread that fits her, it is fun to find the right mix of people. You will be remembered here despite any squabbles that may have popped up. We all have to be ourselves and we all can't be everyone's cup of tea. Thanks for your contributions.
Man Laura, I don't miss the hot, hot days nor do I like the cold cold ones either. We have had warm temps for the past few weeks, but that is coming to an end after tomorrow, but for a good reason as we are supposed to get some small amount of rain, for a few days, and we do need it badly.
I did some yard work today, finished my block planters from the free blocks that I was given last year. I planted some bulbs and watered some of the new transplants that I recently transplanted, from seeds I harvested off my big bushes.
I will till after the weather dries up from the supposed rain we are going to have, hopefully.
lol i dont know about tact.. its not one of my strengths for sure but this i have learnt from DG..
All gardens need weeding! hahahahah
man its getting hotter... can anyone smell crackling cos i think u can stick a fork in me cos IM DONE! lolol
LOL! You are too funny, Laura, is it? I'm having a brain fart.
How hot will it get during the summer?
Betty I think I got up around 8 when Dave went to bed, chatted here for a long time and made an appt to get my car in the shop at 2pm today, then realized I didn't have near as much time as I thought I had so ran into the shower and got ready and left. They were done with my car at 3, went to Target and picked up laundry detergent, fabric softener, Bounce, dishwasher soap, and hand soap, came back home, cooked dinner, Dave got up and ate around 7pm, we watched about 30 minutes of TV together while we ate dinner and he left, and here I am again!
I guess the answer to your question would be: I have done as little as possible! LOL
I'm taking a sick day tomorrow to get fillings YUK!
probably hotter than today which will probably get to 42c!!!!
ya its laura.. sorry i havnt been around much.. i have been reading tp keep in touch with life but not posting as much as i used to.. depends on theday. im hoping the meds im taking are settling and i will see less down days. Im bi-polar u see.....
but.... onward..... i love reading all your posts and see whats going on... im such a voyer of humanity.. i find it fasinating to think that others are living life outsie of my bubble! imagine that?!! lol
getting mail and sulch from time to time has been a thrill... you are all helping me on my journey to finding me... lost myself a while ago.... so i appreciate all ur input...
i dont mind sharing the highs and the lows with you as i said before... it keeps us grounded eh?
poor DH just called me as work to tell me he got a speeding fine.. sigh.. oph well.. this too we will overcome....
when i have anotehr minute i will tell u the snake story!
come gather around the camp fire and dont forget the smores!
anyone got jolly ranchers?
Hello All; Yes - Betty - it has been interesting to have Rico (The German Exchange Student) in our lives. I have actually learned a lot about our own culture as well as the German culture. :) It is frustrating however because he is a teenager and most of the things I would like for him to see are quite boring for him. Funny thing is he loves the Food. We're Louisiana right? Well he doesn't mean Shrimp Po-boys, Boiled Crawfish or Jambalaya....he means...Raisin' Canes, Sonic, Chic Fil A, Etc. :) My kids would all be allowed to be exchange students but none are interested unfortunately....they are having too much fun with all their friends here... Regarding the size of the Shops & Restaurants in the French Quarter....we had that very discussion while eating at The Gumbo Shop on Royal St. I had to explain the small size of the place to my youngest....it's not exactly as if you can build an Olive Garden in the French Quarter (nor would you want to!). I'll ask my DH about the island. He is a Louisiana native, I am not...although I've been here 20 years. Be back as soon as possibly can! --Mary
My best friend is bi-polar, in fact there are a lot of people I know who are bi-polar. My best friend told me it's just something else to have to deal with. She said it gives her an excuse to get off work early when she needs to see the dr for something LOL!!
I haven't had a Jolly Rancher in years!! I got stuck on Gummie Bears lol! And I love Smores! I'll be right there, I hope I don't miss my plane like I keep missing my ship.
Uh a speeding ticket, that sucks. Does it affect your insurance like it does here?
And to anyone who doesn't know, Dave is my husband. He saw me posting and I put "my DH" and he asked what that was? I told him and he said, "It's Dave, I'm just Dave man." LOL Ok!
I haven't been to New Orleans yet. Dave wanted to go for Marti Gras but the more he heard how expensive everything is the more he's been thinking against it and waiting until all of that is gone. I got him to Shreveport, he loooooves Shreveport.
Laura glad you are doing better and getting on more often.....would love to visit there someday!!!!! This is a good place to be if you are Bi-polar several of us suffer from it to one degree or another.....I can think of several things I enjoy more....only wish they had diagnosed it about 25 years ago.....would have made life a lot easier in those days......Oh well who was it that said "Of all the words of song and pen, the saddest are these, It Might Have Been"?
Mary, you talk with bjwilson on Sweet Interruptions.....she just got a 15 year old from Austria on Saturday......you two should have quite a bit to talk about!!
I wanted to stay and chat longer but I have heartburn. I hope this isn't the start to something bad, again...
Have a great night everyone! Love you all!
Christine
Night Christine....know all about the heartburn!!!!! Hope you have a good night...
Crissy, is this someting you get often? If so, you may want to take some meds, or call a Dr? Please take it easy, and take care of yourself.
Betty, I am trying to find an easy quilt pattern for the black and white swap, but after looking and trying several patterns, I think I have found one. Just so many to choose from, and they are all not that easy to put together.
Sleep tight everyone.
Laura, good to see you posting also. What do you have in your garden this year?
LK
well..... take a seat around the camp fire and grab a smores and i will tell u.
My DH was clearing the fernery of undergrowth and what did he find????? yes! a snake... well we called the ranger and he came and couldnt find it. it seems the snake were more scared of us though i cant see how.
so, having grandchildren and such it was decided that all the plants come out and the area is paved and all new plants put into pots.....
so the answer to your question is....nothing... i have nothing in my once was lovely, little garden!
how sad.
never mind... who;s got the hot chocolate? mmmm
Need that hot chocolate Laura and a sit by ;your campfire as well..felling much better but can't swallow, so that means little or no talking today and more meds..guess we are passing it all along to each other...
Saw photo's of your gardens Laura, how sad but even sadder should you have kept the gardens and tragedy occur .. deadly snake it was...Laura what are 'smores'?
don't know about any of you but I'm sure the snake can't possibly be more frightened than I...when living on the farm I had created for over 100 feet wildflowers all along the roadside from the start of the property to the driveway..did this once the municipality had blasted for widening the road, had topsoil delivered, seeds galore and it flurished that is until I realized that all those little holes in the ground were for the snakes to enter and make a home within the rocks..no more weeding for me...
have seen an odd garder snake here, don't like them but not posinous...
Trisha, love your quote, it's quite profound...
Mary thanks for asking DH for the name of the island, look forward to doing some research..perhaps if I key in New Orleans I might find some history on it...
Dawn so nice that you are able to be gardening...it wasn't just a few block you got last year either was it? I believe you made a focal design and worked very hard on your garden, this year you'll see the beauty of those endeavours... Did you get the e-mail or fax number for the department that did the interview? waving to Greg....he must get tired of waving back lol
Linda Kay where are you searching for block patterns? do you have an abundance? How many blocks are you responsible for making..making same for each and everyone right..
See Sharon is on msn guess she can't sleep best go see if she's ok..
good morning,
welcome lizh and mary!
crissy you made me laugh with the dh thing mine gets nosey to and wants to know what all the abriviating is all about lol.
LK what black and white swap sounds interesting!
hi carol, vicki, gilli what are you up to?
shar nice to see you post to cant wait to see your wisteria in bloom
judy did you get the car looked at? hope its minor, will have you know your cleanning rubbed off on me! good grief i took on the middle room where the computer and crafts are.....
i threw away so much junk ! it just becomes a catch all for clutter i actually will be able to go to the item now lol,
my sister callled me from a road that over see's the ocean ect she called me to tell me she was thinking of driving off! omg got her calm and back in order! what a scare for me! it is my mom! she lives with her and for years i always thought there was a bi polar issue there but she is so busy condeming the both of us and blaming all of it on us that we ruined her life ect she is in denile, she tells her its her (my sister) and that she is the deranged one from menopause, but i know better i had my fair share of her growing up its sad she has no maternal feelings...
betty, how is the snow? omg spring were still in it! still waiting for winter lol
i love those wooden birds their so cute! i see my doves are gathering on the wires will have to go get some food. funny story you know dh started a new job, its still driving the big trucks but now he picks up the hudge metal debris boxes so he does alot of traveling from san francisco to half moon bay dropping off and delivering..
well on saturday he had to go pick up a box in drug and prostitute alley,
he was all tarped driving away he saw a druggie near the truck out of the blue he threw his soda at the truck! dh looked at him and he ran and jumped on the side of the truck,
dh slamed on the breaks threw him up against the wall of the debri box and down he went so he proceeded to take off again he ran up the running board so once again dh slammed the breaks and down he went again he finally made it out of the alley..
dh is so bad! lol he was so irritated at that point, he told his boss and they got a big chuckle out of it! men!
he tells me some crazy stories... but he is working a 60 to 70 hour week he is concerned it might burn him out real quick.
laura, i cant tell you how nice it is to see you post and im so glad your doing well oooohhhh not the orchids you got rid of????? with the snake? wow boss off for a month nice! how are all the grandkids doing..
dawn, your having the same weather issues we are so fustrating if we dont get rain im sure the'll punish us for water use!

Hey Betty, I have been looking at this site for patterns. I need to make 12 blocks, and all one pattern. All fabric must be black and white, with a splash of red, yellow, pink, or green. I think I have decided on the bowtie pattern. It is that most of the patterns look better with multiple colors, not just the black and white! It is for this swap.

Betty, I hope your feeling better today!
LK
I used to get heartburn all the time, then last July I had an Appendectomy. Haven't had heartburn since until 2 nights ago, then last night. My dr said that 50% of patience lose their gallbladder shortly after their Appendix goes kapoot, my mom kept her gallbladder for 30 years after her Appendectomy, but my Appendix was perforated and leaking, hers wasn't. I don't know if that makes a difference but I have 1 day sick leave and 1 day vacation after these two dentist appts, one today the other next Monday. So it can't go kapoot, I don't have any time to take off for another stupid surgery! Besides, I'd like to go to some RU's and a real vacation and maybe a cruise if I can ever get my time off built back up. This sucks!
We are such a sharing group we will even share the crud, just don't pass it here I think I'm the only human who hasn't been sick! Knocking hard on wood...
Hope your feeling better Betty.
That's too bad about your mom Lizraney. My mom doesn't have many maternal feelings either, but she makes sure she calls me every night because she doesn't have anyone else to talk to. I think that's hilarious that your dh did that! I have no patience for druggies, I know I'm crewel but I guess living 33 years in Modesto did that to me. You know it's the #2 worst place to live in America, right? Stockton is #1. Go figure.
From SF to Half Moon Bay, I'm assuming he's taking I280? How long does it take him? I hope he's not having to drive during rush hour, not that it matters anymore lol!
OMG Liz, how frantic you must have been, surely that will be the Worse of today, your getting the call from your sister..if it's come to her wanting to take her own life, shouldn't she move out and find a place of her own where there will be less stress..prayers for her..I worry about my sister Sharon as well, very depressed over her son Brian and also her adoptive daughter Rhonda..she gets so low..try to talk with her each and every day...
You tell that hubby of yours to watch it out there wow, you never know if these guys are carrying guns or knives..not worth arguing with..is your hubby a big man Liz?
Glad you are in the cleaning mode..won't be much left at the rate you are going..didn't you declutter most of it last year when you did the garage sale...speaking of garage sales, getting the itch for that as well..
Linda Kay went and checked the link, love the block that Mittsy did, simple yet with choice of patterns it's just so pretty..will you be hand quilting yours, tying or machine quilting...that's when the big task comes in...
Keep eating here, seems to soothe my throat..already this a.m. I'm through a pkg of halls...
This morning with driving in I left 1/2 hr. earlier..so enjoyed the ride, wasn't rushing, sunrise seemed to take up a good amount of the sky..along the roadside the majestic pines were just ladden with snow, each branch was sparkling like diamonds because of the extreme cold..
truly is a spectacular sight..
I contacted Jeff this morning to get his thoughts on taking the boys to Florida for March break...his response was it would be no problem however, Braedon travels during march break for tournaments..Canada and USA games and was doubtful..besides he thought it might be too much for me to be taking all 4 boys..he knows 2 or 3 days they are fantastic but 2 days of travelling 12 hrs. well he just thought it was more than I could handle..
Tonight I'll mention it to Melanie and Greg and see their thoughts..Noah also plays hockey so response probably will be much the same.. I just thought with all of us getting older there won't be many more years they'll want to devote time to grandma..
I was quite impressed last night..because the girls come shortly after I leave for painting class guess my plowman couldn't get my drive done, really needed it..Darlene said she heard the sound of his truck but he quickly left..when I arrived home I saw my driveway done, banks pushed back, great job he did...
Just after my going to bed the telephone rang and it was Kyle, he normally calls me every night to chit chat..you think we chit chat, well you haven't met my Kyle..he asked how come the plowman didn't come, I said he had...NOPE..Kyle said he came after school and did my drive and the walks then walked home, goodness that's about 1 1/2 miles away..will drop in tonight after work, I've sold some tickets for him for his grade 8 trip to Ottawa so I'll leave him some more $$$...he keeps telling me he doesn't want anything but I feel if he's earning money doing other drives he can earn some doing mine...
Morning all,
I just want to say that isn't it AWESOME that we (for the most part, all of us) live in a time when we can do what we want when we want! We don't have to ask permission to come onto DG or anyother site and post our messages and thoughts nor do we have to ask permission to NOT do it. If you enjoy, great. If you don't, that's ok too. NO ONE should feel sad or bad if someone decides this avenue of communication is not their cup of tea. That's life! To each their own.
What I do resent is having our line of communication belittled by someone who doesn't share the same sense of "friendship" that has been established here! I do not consider any of the 80 threads idle chatter and NO ONE should think less of themselves for any of the posts they make that may ramble on. I for one feel that instead of having a ton of friends outside my door, I have some here and some there. We do not need anyone here who feels the need to pull us into their martyrdom and to them I say good riddance!
In the words of Led Zeppelin:
RAMBLE ON!
lol crissy i have no patience for them to! we go in the city for bread at north beach and i love to go to haight ashbury can find some neat things their but you do see it there as well i try to walk quick, you can tell when there going to hit you up for money lol
i have heard that about modesto, and living in the bay area i always thought it was bad here funny how that works... hmmm modesto now i remember on frequent trips to jamestown i think in oakdale their was a snow white drive in we use to stop at for burgers dont know if their still around?
no he go's 101 and 92 omg i travel 101 its so horrible! and all the road rage and such never use to be this bad!
jeannine so nice to see you post!
how are the doggies doing i bet sailor is catching up to murphy now...
betty, yes it was quite disturbing! she is good now its just horrible to think how a mother can keep belittling you till your so worn down, i asked her once why dont you talk to a doctor? her reply was no because i'll start crying and ruin my makeup so you see what we deal with just pathetic! but were all good!
i know about what could of happened but you should of heard him he said if i had a gun i would of shot him omg so he shows no fear he is 6.1 200 lbs
i guess his younger days living in some of the worst projects gave him a sence of survival nope not me i look the other way lol safer
Hi Liz - the doggies are doing great. Sailor's sister Hula came to stay with us Friday and they are having a ball! Murphy doesn't know what to do with two of them! He's seeing double! I'll have to get some pics and post them!
101!! That's busier than 280! It's funny, everyone here complains of traffic, I offer to take them to the Bay Area, I'll show them traffic lol!
The problem with Modesto is it's full of gangs and pollution, it's at the lowest point in the valley @ 85 ft above sea level so everything gets stuck there. I haven't driven through the middle of Oakdale in years. The traffic got so bad I learned residential routes I cut through lol I don't think the Snow White is there anymore though, Oakdale has grown so much you wouldn't believe it.
And Riverbank! There's a couple of huge shopping centers with a Target even! It's not just a bank on the river anymore LOL!!
Gardengirl, you are absolutely correct also!
I've got to get ready to go to the dentist, see ya'll in a few hours!
Jeannine, thanks for the post..how is the terrible threesome??? no not DH and kids...lol...
Looking at the clock, within minutes you will have a new president..best go see if anywhere on this system..t.v. at home forgot to bring it back to the office so seeking somewhere to see live coverage..
LOL! They have actually been very good (all of them!) DH was very surprised as he went into the weekend without an open mind! We're going to keep her for the week and see how it goes with us back at work. I'm sure it will be fine and she will stay with us until Dana (her human mom) decides what to do with her.
I got a laugh yesterday. Dana came over and we were outside with the dogs and she said "now that's we're away from Jim, I've got another proposal" I was like OMG - another dog! Even worse! There is a golden retriever rescue situation that might be coming to a head in our area and they may need some homes to take some females and whelp their litters. I was like no, no, no!!! As much as I'd like the experience of "being there", I told her I don't think I can do 24/7 taking care of a litter nor do I think DH would even listen if I did! I told her to let me know when the puppies were older and then I could foster some of them!! :) My DH would surely divorce me if I said I wanted to whelp a litter!!!!
Hula is not a typical "lap" dog but actually a "neck" dog. She LOVES to climb up on you and lay under your chin - as close as she can get! It's hilarious! What's also funny is when all 3 are outside and we let them back in, we have to yell "incoming" because they charge in and slam into anyone on the sofa. THAT is funny!
GG, that is hilarious...."Incoming"....what a picture!
Just wanted to thank Trisha for the use of her photo of lightbulb ornaments that she graciously allowed me to use in today's article. They are truly beautiful.
You all have a great day.
