Haven't had a chance to check out that Spray and Grow, but if it's not organic, then I wouldn't want it.
Gorgeous seedling you got, Celeste!
Will have to check out that co-op when I have a little more time. Sounds nice!

What have you ordered for spring 2009 - Part II
My photo at the top of the page was just planted a few months before. This is Ramona's (aka Mainiac) picture of the same flower.

Her's is more purple than mine.
I said I wouldn't look--I did---am ordering iris---can't beat those prices, & some lovely blooms. My credit card should be taken away!
Anyone ever order from High Country Gardens?
I think Bill did and was not too enthused about them, If I remember correctly.
i have - first time last year was happy with my order - a couple did not make it and they were replaced no questions asked. ordered again this year.
Oops - sorry Bill!
i would give them a solid neutral - about 3/4of the plants were great with full root systems -
Have you ordered any grass from them?
solid neutral....lol
this year i did so jury is out - ordered three of your favorite Karl's. still thinking about looking into that other one you pointed out - got free shipping on the order so might add to it.
solid neutral means better - much better than say a springhill or michigan bulb - not as good as going to a nursery where you can pull the plants out of the pot to see the roots.
Wow - better than those two is not saying much! I do like that grass.
yeah well - maybe a bad example
Their packaging is pretty amazing and they're a good source for plants you can't get anywhere else. Of course the REASON we can't find them anywhere else is that HCG are, for the most part, trying to sell stuff that will grow where it's drier than here. I've had good luck with them but only after a lot of bank double-checking, soul-searching, will I really plant it before the ground freezes (I didn't), etc.
two years ago I got a great shipment from HCG.... last year... not so much... but they told me if something doesn't make it... to let them know... and they will replace it
here are the photos from last year

Anyone have Winter jasmine?
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/2346/
Jen, I have ordered from them, but look closer to home if you can. Their stuff is good but not great. I would keep them as a hold for something that you really really want and can't get anywhere else.
That's my situation with that grass. It's their exclusive. 'Your grass is mine!'
did bill murray help develope it?
Yes, I would only order from HCG if I couldn't get it elsewhere, closer to home. They really do have a great catalog, though, and it's very hard to resist.

That's what I was thinking...their climate maybe too different and they'll suffer shock when getting all the way to NJ
I've ordered penstemon & agastache from them--very nice, healthy plants, the penstemon are still going strong. Pixie, I like the sound of the banana passion fruit seeds---let us know how they turn out.
Was informed that the pink arborescens hydrangea has the same growth habit as Annabelle. That's a bummer.
Last night went to my first meeting with the local hort society and it happen to be seed night and one of the members works for seed company he came in with huge boxes full of seed packages so I came home with about 150 dollars worth of seeds for free and he told me they do it at the january meeting every year so next year I am not purchasing any seeds till after the meeting lol could have saved a bundle
Fragrant * 4 O'Clock Flower Seed... will have to look that one up...
my agastache was from HCG... bought it 2007... it did great last year
what a score with the seeds Scicciarella!
thanks also found out that there is a garden show this weekend with 40 venders Im going to check it out
Wow, Mona, you really lucked out getting all those free seeds. I would have been grinning from ear to ear.
I was smiling so much my face hurt by the time I got home lol
some of the packages had prices up to 6.99 lol that is to much I would never pay that much but when its free lol one of each hahahhah
Yeah Allison...flower show at the NJ convention center in Edison Feb 12-15th!!!!!
I love flower shows or anything connected when I was in toronto one of my friends had a fertilizer business and I would tag along to her shows that are not open to the public it is for businesses only and it was amazing since everything was wholesale man I got good deals on all kinds of irises and daylilies and many other bulbs and perennials it was amazing the growers would all be there so the buyers the middle people could see what they had for the coming season now that I moved I wonder if she could still give me a ticket lol
I sure could use a flower show this year. Just the idea of actual green growing plants and soil that is not frozen and running water in streams. Even if it is all contrived and temporary. Oh just thinking about it helps a little.
It's so sad that there's no NE flower show this year. I never go, but just knowing about it makes spring seem sooner.
klem's catalog arrived today oh no - lots of nice conifers - to pricey and small to buy from them but there are other sources.......................
you could always come and dig your own have to many of them lol and they are free.
pick your own
Jen... Michele and I are planning on going to edison for the flower show
we have a local show this saturday with 40 venders Im planning on checking it out with my sister just to look lol as if that is possible but will try to refrain lol hahahh
This time of year is really hard to deal with. I end up starting seeds from anything I can find (oranges, lemons grapefruit, peppers from the store.....) just to see something green and play in dirt.
