To Chase Away The Winter Blues...3

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Oh you mean that aren't as "full" looking. I see....not sure why.

If that is it I might be able to remember it. I wont remember Spigelia marilandica unless I write it down 1000 times.

Southeastern, NH(Zone 5b)

Hmm I think they just aren't good for me then. I am officially giving up on them. Perhaps they are a cultivar that is best propagated from cuttings, because the original plants were triple their height and had a very fully flowered stalk. But probably I just don't have good enough soil for them, I do amend it, but you can only do so much with it - it is soo sandy.

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Foxgloves are temperamental plants I think. The weather seems to effect them a bit more than other plants. Some years they are tall and huge and some years not so much. They are one of my favs though since they do seed around well and come back in different colors.

Lol I keep forgetting to preview! Yup Indian PInk is their common name but you know how that is. Everyone has a different one for the same plant. : ) I think I only remember the botanical one from writing it dow 1000 times : )

Southeastern, NH(Zone 5b)

Oh that's good to know! So maybe there IS hope for me! lol I want to try some D. obscura this year, I can't remember the common name but they look very cool in catalogs.

I went to check - they are willow leaved foxglove, I remember now that I thought I'd have better luck because they are more tolerant of dry conditions. I think the color would look much nicer with the INdian Pinks to boot : )

did a little research and they digitalis common name foxglove can be as short as 12 inches and as tall as 40 inches depending on the cultivar and some everywhere in between hahahah so your size and blooming patern sparce flowers may just be the cultivar that it is I would wait and see how they do this summer

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

I have 5,000 seeds of Digitalis purpurea glox. Giant Shirley Mix coming.

48 inches tall.

If anyone wants to experiment, I am sure to have plenty to spare.

Hopefully, they will arrive Friday, or Monday.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Gorgeous Kate!

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

is that cherry or crab apple what beautifull blooms

Essex Junction, VT(Zone 4a)

OK, stop that, I have such a LONG way to go before I see that. I'm usually fine with winter, but that picture even makes ME want spring! It hurts!! ;-)

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

all I see is that snow and more snow over 2 feet of it
man I am so ready for green and pink, red, violet, blue, orange, yellow eettcccc......

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

I am very snowful too. Actually still wading, it's so snowful sigh. There should be crocus happening underneath the snow now though, maybe? perhaps thinking about happening?

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

It's a flowering plum, and don't be jealous - it will be at least another 6 - 8 weeks before I get to stand under the 3 pink clouds.
No crocus here just yet, but my tulips are performing their annual anxious dance.
The Hellebores are out, as are the Hamamelis.
Oh! the weeds are popping out blossoms, too. I'll give them credit for their tenacity.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Mom asked me to bring in some forsythia branches for her room, so that is on my list for tomorrow.

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

ok ok enough nothing but snow and more snow and more coming down will it ever stop
making me nuts

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Its going straight sideways here at the moment scicciarella. Supposedly it's a 'dusting of snow' snort.

It sounds like you have a great spot for growing just about any plant you like. If your style leans toward contemporary and architectural, look for money tree (Pachira), dracaena (Pleomele), or just about any palm to create drama and interest indoors

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

"It sounds like easy-care, lush-looking plants such as Calathea, Chinese evergreen (Aglaonema), and pothos (Epipremnum) are best for you. These colorful varieties don't mind low light but can really make your indoor space look inviting."
Sounds zone 10ish to me. Wait a minute!! Wren is the pothos the luvly epi things you grow in the greenhouse???? Could I have one as a houseplant???? Are they easily killed????

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

I don't know what the pothos is? missed that picture but yes you can grow epiphyllums in the house thought some get large. They are NOT easily killed. They are tropical cactus that grow in trees.. They need bright indirect light, more water than a desert cactus. You feed them once a month(if you remember,if you don't it will not hurt) with 10-10-10 except in Dec, Jan, and Fed.

Pothos Scindapsus spp.- Light: Medium and high light levels are preferable for growth, but plants will grow under low light levels.

I have grown them in FL and here in NH. Less light the less character they have.

edited to say - I had those epiphyllums in Florida. I would literally take them off trees.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Thanks so much wren. I will look at them at the garden centre. I wonder how many thousands they cost here?

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Well darn Katye that pic is just too beautiful. It does seem very hard to wait for spring this year, but that is certainly worth waiting for.
Oh I love forcing the early blossoms inside. Planted some quince last year so I hope to have those in a few years to force along with the forsythia. Won't it wonderful to see real flowers again.

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Okay here you go, forcing forsythia on-line. How many days now?

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

Dahlia I buy mine as cuttings, takes a couple of years to get to blooming size but I don;t mind.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

How wonderful is that ngam! I wonder if my dwarf forsythia will have blooms this year? I don't think it gets enough sun. I'm hoping the new gate will make a difference as it will let in alot more light.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

I doubt I can get cuttings here but I shall look. Thanks.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)
