We are coming from here: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/940489/
Well we have passed the winter solstice and are about half way through Jan., so have we turned the corner toward spring? It sure doesn't look or feel like it yet. The days are getting longer though and soon small signs of renewal will be apparent, but until then, let's see some memories of warmer greener times. ✿
To Chase Away The Winter Blues...3
Oh thanks you guys. I love those two colors together. Very pretty colors that I miss so much. Is that a stokes aster Victor or something else? Whatever it is I like it a lot. The JI is just perfect isn't it. Love the color patterns.
Yes - called 'Purple Pixie'.
ngam I saw your question about the delphinium seeds. If you don't find the ones you are looking for I have another idea for you. They look very similar to me. http://www.dianeseeds.com/larkspur-kingsize-scarlet.html
Oh goodie, I believe I ordered that one from GC late last summer. Have not seen the blooms yet. Hope it comes through this cold weather so I get to have pretties like that too. Can't wait and now I have another thing to look forward to this season.

Thank-you Meredith, this was not my question but I am sure Mona will be happy to have a look. BTW thy are really pretty and I wonder if I could stick them in somewhere? Hmmmm....
Oh man, I went back and looked to see who posted it too! Man my eyes must be going lol!
wow that patch foxgloves looks great. i have some i just put out to winter sow - i think - the seeds are so small hope they come up - have to think where i would put a patch of them if i get lucky.
Love that! Can't beat foxgloves for mass planting. I like the surprise every year to see where they pop up and what colors are blooming. Most are biennial but they re-seed here and there and will bloom the second year. I also like the yellow perennial foxgloves. Pretty Pretty!
Oh my Sherrie, sounds like a bad case of cabin fever is setting in up there. I prescribe purchase of plants, seeds, review of last years pics, a good stiff drink or maybe all of the above. LOL It has been a little slow around here today. Soon there will too much to do and we will all be complaining. :)
Mona your yard is beautiful...I never heard of a saltwater pool I may have to look into that...but of course we prob won't get an inground pool since my lovely state taxes you for it.
Oh Victor, love the name of that Aster! Purple Pixie.....I am partial to purple, after blue of course.
larkspur is an annual I am looking for a delphinium dark red perennial and the flower is a double thanks for the thought not quite it but I will keep looking I have much patience when it come to finding a particular plant lol
Scicciarella are you thinking of the elusive 'Red Princess' delph? Cross between delphinium cardinale and pacific giant? Sigh that one has been in the Great Book of Lists for a long time. Please let me know if you find seed. Thanks muchly.
if its the one that grows between three to four feet tall and is doubled bloom then yes and I have been looking for two years now hope to find it this year maybe at the bloom show in march they usually have very rare perennials
Yes, Celeste - got it last year. I think I mentioned it when I first posted that photo. Very nice.
oooooo I will be sooooooooo jealous if you find it.
the one you posted looks smaller and single blooms am I right ???? my sister has the single shorter one its the giant double and is really hard to find.
The one I'm thinking of is 5-6 feet tall and fully double. Maybe I wrote it down wrong and its not called 'Red Princess' . Bummer if so cuz I've been looking for it by that name for awhile now. It was developed by a Brit I think.
http://www.whiteflowerfarm.com/27565-product.html This one I linked to in the last thread is 4-6 ft tall, double and was developed in england and holland. It appears to be patented so there would not be seeds, only plants. If there is another one I doubt that there would be seeds because most all new plants that are bred usually are patented so you have to buy the plants for a number of years. Some may not come true from seed at all or can be sterile.
ok this is from daves garden is this the one you have victor ????? its called caroline or miss caroline and it comes from the carolinas I saw it there when I visited my friend that is what started my quest but in full bloom with no seeds to be had man I was sad to not find a plant for sale or seeds at the four garden centers we visited .
Not me, scicc. I think someone else was asking about that.
just up a bit you told celest you got it last year ????
Sorry ngam I missed that in the last thread. The one I'm thinking of has a tighter flower cluster like Pacific Giant but red like that. One day there will be seeds. I can wait.
dahlia is this the one you have been looking for someone has it lol somewhere and not in the uk at that price it would not survive the trip 10days or more at a cost of 60 or more US that is crazy lol will call my friend to have her go back to the same garden center it was a little late in the season maybe she would find them now
mona
No, I was referring to the stokes aster - Purple Pixie.
♫ This is my quest
To search out that delph
no matter how hopeless
or cost to my self
To fight for the right
Without question or pause
To be willing to march into Hoot
For the red delphinium cause..... ♫
D-nut
These are more pinkish-red but grow 4 -7 feet tall good to z3!

it is almost blood red and more petals
ooo pixie those are luvly. This red delph is a perennial and red (not pinky red or orangy red but red like 'Mr. Lincoln' rose red) My Pacific Giants average 7 feet tall and I want to put tall red ones in front, 4 to 6 feet tall with 6 feet perferable. I wrote down 'Red Princess' as the name probably 5-6? years ago.
Well these say they grow to 6 feet and come in lilac, rose, and raspberry.
