My DD#2 is 14 and has been a trouble since she was 3, but then she was very very bright. Now she's just the ordinary sassy and brain-dead teenage type.

Condolences on your deer and pests, Karen and others. I tried to grow tomatoes, cabbage and spinach this past year - I grew some big bunnies! I finally put the tomatoes up on the patio table out of reach. Oh yes, they didn't eat the chili peppers!

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Gee, I wonder why those bunnies didn't like the chili peppers? I'm thinking of spraying rotten eggs and Tabasco sauce on my plants this year to keep the deer from eating them.

Karen

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

actually if you take hot cayenne pepper and mix with water let stand 24 hours and filter spray all plants since it washes way it wont hurt you but the bunnies will be singing soprano lol and it works for slugs and deer to hahahah ive been using it for 10 years even get rats out of the compost hahah hot hot stuff

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Sounds good to me, Mona. Definitely worth a try. Only problem is it has to be reapplied every time it rains. I bet the deer would get wise and come to the buffet table when the rain has washed everything off, especially after it's rained a few days and I can't reapply the spray till the rain stops.

they are pretty smart and like the rat that burned his mouth burned once they usually do not come back they just move on and eat somebody elses garden ahahahah

Weather goes in cycles.

I tried SquirrelAway mixed in with birdseed and they kinda rub their faces on the ground, but it hasn't slowed them down. Maybe I have squirrels that love spicey food. LOL

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

my jack russel takes care of the squirrels when they get into the feeders I send him out and man it is amazing how fast they get over my fence he has never gotten one yet which is good he loves the chase and they do not get hurt that works for me hahahhahah

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

Squirrels don't like safflower seeds but the birds do, so I have one feeder with safflower seeds and one with sunflower seeds. I use deervik (smells like garlic) on bamboo stakes around plants that the bambi crowd like for lunch. They are habitual feeders so between that and chasing after them when I see them, they are staying out of the yard pretty much. It has taken several years to do this and if they are really hungry, nothing short of a tall fence will stop them. Late winter/early spring and late fall are the worst time here. The females and fawns stay in the woods all summer so only the males are a threat to the garden during the main growing season. They all hook up again in winter and will browse any little sprouts and new growth left unprotected in the spring. That is when most of my damage has been done in the past.

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

I plant all my stuff that they like in my fenced area around my pool and the stuff they do not eat everywhere else lol it seems to work since they will stand and look into my livingroom on a regular basis man some of the males get real big. good thing they dont eat us hahahahhah

Help please. I lost my link to the supplier of a luvly trellis that has curves and leaves that someone posted. I searched the NE forum and can't find it again. The supplier started with an 'H' I think and doesn't ship to Canada so I want to find one in Denver in the spring. Thanks for your help.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

had a pack of 10 or so in the woods across the pond this weekend - for some reason it is very rare that they come into my yard - anytime of the year - it has only happened a few times when winter was bad.

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

D-nut don't know if this is what you are looking for, but I posted them a while back. Hope it helps. http://www.plowhearth.com/category.asp?section_id=2008&department=3064&search_type=category&search_value=1127

my buddy here (hunter) at work says coyote urine is the best - you can find it at HD, garden centers and some hardware stores. they have little containers that you squirt some on to a cotton ball and hang them up. i use it around the vegy garden and where i plant sunflowers to keep the squirrels and chippy's away.

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

D I buy mine at canadian tire in the spring usually have a good collection very nice with and without gates

Jan that is just the pits....
squirrels here eat my safflower seed and stuff with cayenne, I broke apart zest soap and spread it around works good until it starts shrinking from the rain
human urine is said to work too.

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Thanks for the coffee break, pixie. I'm finally getting a chance to enjoy it, at this late hour for me.

Jan, that's awful about your vehicle and the kid up the street. I swear, some kids have not respect at all, and then, the law goes right along and seems to have no feeling about what you're going through, either! The law may convict, but the law-breaker always seems to make his own deals. The victims suffer most, in my humble opinion.

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

ok time to go pee hahahhahahah

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Thanks ngam re: the trellis. I finally found it. It is from Smith and Hawken.

Good morning y'all. You know that they do not sell coats down here that can protect you from the really cold weather??? I know that our temps are no where near as low as y'all's are but it is way below normal. Depending on what site it will be 15-24 tonight, normal is down in the 40.

Good news is that my greenhouse is keeping everything warm enough.

Every one stay warm.
