Ah yes..that is a famous poem..and full of good advice.

Maya Angelou has such a commanding..but at the same time a soothing voice..

A few flurries when I was driving to Bowmanville this morning..but nothing now..

This particular German mustard has a little kick..but not what I would call hot.

My Neice brought real nutmegs from Grenada..(she is a pilot too and flies for LIAT a small airline that flies around the islands) and we grated some over our egg nog at Christmas.
My nephew brought smoked salmon perserved in small jars from B.C...and it was really good.

Hi Sharon..we cross posted..
Lovely selection of paintings..so many styles to choose from..

Victoria Harbour, ON

Ahhh hard as it is I love the cabin in the woods but especially like the last one..think if I retired I'd like to get involved in something similar, somewhere to show budding artists work...

OMG there is a 100 year old church..very large for sale for $149.99, wouldn't that be a wonderful place to show for all types of art? now if I could only win the lottery, quit working and get it set up..lol..cross your fingers..hope all goes well at the doctor Shar...what are you painting Shar and in what medium?

Carol, almost count the snowflakes...

Hands and knees are aching a lot, must be the cold..should go and convert what -28 and -31 is in reg. temps..must be why I'm achy...

Newcastle, ON(Zone 5a)

That old church sounds like a fun idea..and you could give classes there too..
I wonder though do people really ever get their money back for all the time and equipment put into crafting...and painting..

Is that how cold it was this moring in Vic Harbour??????

You've had a busy couple of days, Betty. Still no sign of Ceddric and Bailey; hope for this week. The rag quilts look so nice and everyone says they are so easy but I haven't tried one yet. Are they all made out of flannel or just any fabric that frays?
You've mention several times that you have a steam mop that you use on floors..tell me about it. I have hard wood and linolium floors and am looking for a good quick way to clean them. Vacume just takes up the dog hair and some of my sewing threads; I want something to clean and a mop just doesn't cut it.
I must get something done today. I want to finish the top of the last T-shirt quilt so I can take my sewing maching in for repair..AGAIN!
this will be the third time. You know when you go to the auto repair place and you tell the guy "the carburator sticks" or something like that and he pats you on the head (figuratively) as says "now lady I'll look into it" and you know he is saying, "what does a women know about cars?" Well, this guy at the sewing machine repair is doing the same thing to me. I KNOW what the problem is but don't have the tools to fix it and he doesn't seem to think it worth checking out.
So back I go to fight it out with him. This time he will take the thing apart!

(Laura) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Gillian, I know what you mean about babysitting; that’s what I do currently for a “living”.

Betty, I agree with “A woman should have…”

Victoria Harbour, ON

Carol, no not this a.m. but the A Channel is saying it's what we'll get Wedn. and Thurs. and much the same for the weekend..so best get hot chocolate supply and fixing for the bread machine, something for homemade soup and stay in the house comfy and cozy..

As for your question to all the crafting equipment people have, do they pay for themselves...etc...I for one could never recoup my money, shaking my head nope...but then on the otherhand, when I consider I need birthday,Mother's Day, Father's Day (no longer) Christmas, Anniversary gifts well I don't have to go shopping, always something on hand...to me it's my form of entertainment..I'm not one to be out shopping every day although from some of my posts you'd get that thought, don't smoke, don't drink so it's the way of treating myself and giving homemade gifts always makes me feel warm inside..lol...

Now I do have a knitting machine that's paid itself at least twice over...made those dickie (belaclava's with deerhide) for snowmobilers and just couldn't keep up...money I made sure paid it off...I do sell some of my work but more so someone wants something specific painted ..but like most painters I enjoy painting what I want to paint and not what someone else wants me to paint, guess that's the creativity within, am sure Shar you are much the same...

I am going to have a door for linen closet in the washroom cut from good sheeting so that I can paint a faux design on it..i.e. towels, washroom supplies, soaps, etc. did that at the farmhouse and lordy it was beautiful....must do something similar...so a lot of my craft work either painting, woodworking, knitting, sewing, stained glass helps decorate my home, and that is enjoyable in itself...of course there is always a friend or family member that likes something so I just whip it up..lol

Janice, sorry to hear that Cedric and Bailey have not arrived, do know the problem lies at customs...probably wondering why I'm sending stuffed animals and suitcases for them over the border, or maybe they like them so much they are visiting with them, sure wish they'd post photo's...maybe today they will arrive safely...

As for the steam mop, Walmart probably has them..they are great..I'll take photo tonight..only takes 3 seconds after you fill the reservoir and you just push it like a mop - it's so lightweight almost like a swifter...I can do my entire upstairs floor with one filling..it has pads that can be washed after use...I put a little bit of vinegar in my water, seems to make everything smell clean....

Sharran, where in CA do you go to? I spent the first 34 years of my life in Ca, I'm 36 years old now. They only have Hush Puppies in the Central Valley, haven't seen them anywhere else. Dave said they don't sell them in the Bay Area either. It's creamed corn so it has a base that keeps it together. You should try the recipe, you'd probably like it. A lady who's about 80 years old who was born, raised, and has never left Mt. Ida Ar makes them this way, says it's her grandmother's recipe, who also was born and passed on in Mt. Ida. Mt Ida is a little bitty town and Dave is related to about 80% of the town lol. She made them from a propane fryer out on Lake Ouachita for the annual family reunion on the 4th of July. I don't like hush puppies except for that one recipe. The sugar makes them a little sweeter too. Yum! LOL push huppies LOL I hope your dr appt went ok.

Betty, if you only eat carppies no wonder you don't like fish, they are flavorless. Try a fried catfish, or grilled sea bass, and grilled flounder and mahi mahi is always good.

Lady, my dad was a mechanic and I used to help him build engines when I was a kid. When I took my car to a shop for a collapsed brake calliper I had never been to before this older man ran the shop, the mechanic was in his late 40's. I stood behind his toolbox and told him every part of the braking system he was taking off, then while the car was on the hoist he was picking on me and wanted me to do a "quiz." I told him every part that showed underneath the car. He was sold and they knew when I said "the brake calliper collapsed." or "The spark plug wires are shot." or whatever the problem was they never questioned me. Me and the owner became quite close and when we told him we were moving to AR he sold the business and retired. He said he was going to move to Hawaii, I wonder if he ever did. Anyway, maybe you should do that with your sewing machine man. Men are hard headed and us women have to prove ourselves.

Good Day!!

Wow, I can't beleive it, was up at 555AM again. Is it just me or is that kind of weird?

So, again stayed quiet tuntil 6:15...Still dark so just crept about the house quietly.
Entertained myself with coffee. Worked on the computer for a few. Got the kids up and
everyone out the door.
Decided on some breakfast and no giving the kitchen a major scrub down.

Wow, Shar, nice selection at the gallery. Will have to go back and see which i like the best.
Leaning toward the hand playing guitar.

Well, i have enjoyed all the renditions on Hush puppies. Funny, i didn't realize they were cornbread.
LOL, I just learned to make corn bread earlier this month!

Betty, Your quilt came out real Beautiful!! Did you give it to Sharon yet??

Well break time over, working on laundry too...LOL, then I think that is finally caught up again.
Also, got through a ton of paperwork...I am hope to start a book later today. Waiting on getting to JoAnnes for a few quitling supplies.

Oh by the way...Betty, did you like my latest Santa? You didn't say.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Janice, does your machine mess up with cotton, or is it just the t shirt material. Sometimes when you get a thinner material, like t shirts, it can mess with all the settings. Test it on some cotton fabric, before you take it in, and make sure you try with a new needle.

Betty, love the rag quilt. It does look nice and comfy!

As far as making the rag quilts, it works better with flannel, but you can use any fabric for them. Flannel, and denim, just fray a litle better.

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

I've been looking at the picts too, can't decide I like them all. There's a lady who has a gallery in the building I work in and she's closing her store. I wanted to go in and see what she has but things are going so quickly. Poor gal, she got super sick with something that put her in the hospital, she got out and got better, then her and her husband were creamed by a drunk driver. That's been several months now and she still has to walk with a cane and can't run the store anymore. I feel bad but can't afford much, I'll probably get a picture that doesn't have a frame, that will be cheaper.

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

Sharan, you're right! I AM a true southerner! My daddy was crippled, and he fished and hunted for a living, along with farming, with help. We always had all the fish and game we wanted and needed to eat. Fried catfish is delicious with hushpuppies, white beans, slaw, onion quarters, and all the good cold water you can drink! We also had crappy, Betty, and perch. Buffalo fish is also good, although bony except for the rib pieces. After I grew up, and married Daddy fished commercially. Not to bad a life, even if a "smelly" one!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Still can't talk me into eating fish..lol...

Judy, quilt made for Suzanne not Sharon and yep gave it to her this morning...she had just said on Friday aft. as she's always doing something for someone that she was going to earmark Sundays as HER day and simply stay home and relax so when I gave her the birthday card I reminded her it was made so that she would be warm and cozy on Sundays...so laughed when I went to preview the santa thread..thought you were showing some body parts..lol

Janice have to tell you when I was at Doug's shop doing the scoot tarp I wanted to clean the area where my bobbin sits, felt it might be dirty and after working with velvet I knew it must need cleaning..so Doug took out the compressor and air blew inside..for a machine that I thought was fairly clean you should have seen all that came out, it's a wonder that it even worked...guess it just falls inside the machine..I usually have it serviced once a year but going to tell you, I have a compressor, going to purchase the air gun knozzle and use it each time after I've sewn a lot..no more problems.. I also found on my other machine that sometimes where the bobbin sits in there is a tiny screw, sometimes tightening or loosening brings it into a good stitch..I'm with you Linda Kay, what a lot of people also don't realize but I'm sure you all do is the need for change needles depending on what fabric is being sewn.....so many times I forget to change my needed and start to have problems then I realize I didn't change the needle..you'd think I learn..now, it's the first thing I do now when I start a project...

DIL said her machine was acting up, best get it over and put the air to it...bet I could have filled 1/4 of a cup with all the guck that came out...

How sad for the art lady in your work building it's probably something she thoroughly enjoys and now has to give it up..hard to make a living as well in the art trade I would imagine..

Audrey, at the end of the lake where I lived the kids used to fish for catfish..always gave the fish to FIL to cook..reason I like crappy is because it doesn't taste like fish...guess it's taste buds you acquire...

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

And Doe....we are so close, ya know??? How far from the state line to Dyersburg? Coming from KY, I mean.

Betty, do you pronounce it "CRAHHP..PIE"? Like saying Ahhh for the doctor??

Victoria Harbour, ON

Not quite Shar..lol...good news at the Dr.? Hope so..

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Now that is a good Southern supper Audrey! I would love you to cook me that! YUM!!

Betty, you don't know what you are missing.

Haven't caught up yet but they're going to take the server down for a bit so I'll see ya'll in a few!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Sharran, and Audrey, you two are only 102 miles apart. You should both drive and meet somwhere to meet up. Less than an hour, and you two could be laughung, and hugging...

LK

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

It was just my regular appointment for the nerve root injections for my back, Betty....the only thing that keeps me upright!! Hurts like heck when I get them, but then I am so good to go for the next couple of months. They sedate me for the shots, so now I am really close to being in la la la land. It is all a result of the polio thing from years ago. No big deal. Thanks for asking.

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

It's what I was thinking, LK....sounds llike a plan to me. And I think it is Purchase Parkway all the way maybe, not sure but seems to be.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Let us all know when you get together. I know you two will have a good time.

LK

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

That would be soooo great! I really don't know how far it is to the Ky. line, not to far. I've only lived in Dyersburg about 4/5 years, I don't know my way around, yet! I would LOVE to meet you somewhere for lunch! It would have to be right after the first of the month, so I'll have funds! Just let me know when and where! Oh Boy!!

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

You two would have a blast!! What a great idea! I'm excited for you!

Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

*waving* still breathin!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Hey there! How are you doing? Hope you are doing well? Is it getting warm over your way? Please take care, and pop in when you can.
Linda Kay

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Waving Back at Ya!! Glad to hear you're still breathin! LOL I'm coughing over here.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Laura, miss you..know you are breathing and popping in quickly but do come and visit, let us know how you are doing..sure do miss you...

Shar sure sounds painful to me..nothing like a bad back..

Always nice to personally meet DG friends..

Just got in, ate late so I'm not hungry, maybe later toast and tea...chilled to the bones and they say the cold is yet to come...my hands have been aching terribly of late (no not because I'm busy with them..) most likely because I keep active it's not as bad as it might..have a wax pot..going to plug it in, think it takes longer than a few hours to melt, if not ok to use tonight it will be ready tomorrow.. nightie in the dryer so off I go, cuddle in my rag quilt, put a good movie on and enjoy the evening..

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Thanks, Betty, it is painful without the injections.

Yep.....just about an hour and a half from here to Dyersburg. Actually I just mapped it out. So that's a sure bet. It will be fun. But I want to wait till we don't have the threat of bad weather facing us, so maybe a little closer to spring. We usually get about the same weather as in Dyersburg, so we'll pick a very nice day in a month or so.

edited because this old schoolteacher can no longer spell.,,

Hi...
Wow, How very exciting!! Woohoo, will look forward to your meeting up!

I'm still at this kitchen...whew on the floor now. But, it has now been properly sanitized...
I can't wait till Steve see's. LOL, he thinks I play on computer all day!

So, thought I would just pop in to say hey.
Thats been my day, just cleaning.

Betty, lol, I knew that was Susan, I get everyones names mixed up still. LOL but I know who we are talking about.
I am glad she likes it and will cuddle up warm.

OK back to my floor...almost done!

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

Yes, can't take a chance on getting snowed in somewhere!! This will be a nice day trip! Sharran. what kind of injections do you get? I have a hard time walking because of my back, too. I've had a few, but need to find a dr. here who can give them so I wont have to drive so far and have someone to drive me back!

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Audrey, it is like an epidural, and contains cortisone, anti inflammation, and probably other things that I don't know about. I am in a pain management program in Paducah through Lourdes hospital. Actually I found this place through my ortho/neuro surgeon in Nashville, and it is an excellent program. They monitor everything I do, and every med I take. It works, because I have not been down and out in probably about a year. I started out going once a month, then once every two months, and now it is about every 3 months. But yes, I have to have a driver on those days, and I have a great neighbor who does that for me.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Nice to have great neighbors isn't it..Darlene gets botox injected and it's the only thing that makes the pain manageable...

Joined that Mystery 7 item swap..have you ever had somethng floating around in your head...probably not as much as I, but I knew there was something that would almost match her project needs...been looking and looking, do you know how many project pattern packets I have, probably near a thousand...after going through several boxes of whimsical etc. wouldn't you know, I found it on a shelf sitting pretty with some other to-do projects...so now off upstairs, read up on materials I need and I'm all set..my swap partner will just LOVE them..know she will...infact should be doing doubles..one for her, one for me...

(Laura) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Betty, I’m still around, busy and sick, but other than that… My recreational interests are fighting with each other for the small amount of time I have for them. I’m usually not online much on the weekends (F-Sun), and it’ll be even rarer for awhile.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Know you've so much on your plate..hope one of the 2 places you are going to see pan out for you..is it march you have to move..drats...could have at least waited till better weather couldn't they..you are but 2 miles from Trisha, are either of these places closer?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Oooops, meant to ask Jeannine if she has the 3rd puppy yet? everyone adapting...hope its not too much for you...by the way Jeannine, the painting studio teacher was telling me she has someone to machine quilt...going to get the name from her and have the cross stitch quilt done...if she'll do it..it's a Mary Maxim pattern, the quilting lines are on the cotton to follow, know machines don't do that but I'm sure she could pick a nice quilt pattern to enhance the beauty of it..know I'll never quilt it and it really is too pretty to leave undone..

My wax machine musn't be like Suzanne's..it a Dr. Scholl unit and I noticed already it's 3/4 melted so might get to put my hands in tonight after all...sure hope so..

This time I really am off..couch looking mighty fine...project instructions inhand what more could a girl want...well could tell you something different I guess...lol..

(Laura) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Betty, the two places we're looking at tomorrow are more like two blocks, maybe closer to 4, but still really close.

Newcastle, ON(Zone 5a)

Ohh..my friend has one of those wax machines..and we did my hands one day at her place..so nice..and so smooth afterwards. I am drinking a Margarita while playing Scrabble LOL
Hope the wax treatment makes your hands feel better.

I really need to start seeing a pain speciallist again. I can't walk very far at all, because of my back! I saw one in Jackson, Tn. I think we have one here.
Epidural is what I had, too!
