you aren't kidding... imagine the heating bill
78 days until Spring! yay!!!!
In the morning when it's sunny, my (recently) enclosed porch has been reaching 72 - even with these frigid temps!
that's impressive... must be well insulated
I insulated the ceiling with foam insulation - 1 1/2 inches, I think. Installed polycarbonate panels over the screens. I also painted the wall that gets hit by the sun a darker color.
very smart I must say!... i am so jealous
Thanks. I overwinter the tender stuff there now. Was just sitting out there a while ago and was actually sweating a bit! I prop open the hot tub to add humidity whenever I need it.
For the plants.
Great idea Victor... I hope another couple of years and I will be able to have a renewable energy house...
How many days!!???? I have been reading and looking at the tons of catalogs... so many plans for this year...
Hopefully I will have time for all of it!!!!! lol!!!
Thanks Sue!!!! very nice...
Pretty soon I will begin to look for garden decor... this year I am doing more decorating and less planting... well, not really... but I keep seeing so many great things that can be turned into containers... ah... so many plans!!!!
can't wait for all this snow and ice go away!
More snow tomorrow, too - boo, hiss, boo!
yeah... oh so not nice... but at least the roses are protected since I did not protect at all!
That is the only good thing about the snow from my point of view too. I could certainly deal with an early spring. How many days left? 61?
Great finds Sue. If the snow and ice would go away and spring would get sprung we will be able to get all the little garden treats back out while we await the return of our old friends. Hurry up spring!
I've been scoping the Christmas tree shops for seed trays, seeds etc. They are slowly starting to get gardening stuff back in. I've go so many plants in my basement right now it looks like a jungle!
good to know! I've got lupine seeds from Nova Scotia that I did not get into the garden last year so I'll try to sow them inside this year.
Deb, I got seeds at Home Depot in Natick and they had the trays out... and I got some succulents also... 2 huge ones... oh I could not resist! I they will be so big this summer... can't wait...
today all the snow really covered my roses... so nice! all white... and if it stays this way for a few weeks I don't care... spring will come again!!!!
and more snow on the way tonight (only 2 inches or so though). I can hardly see my garden. Andrew is up to his tummy in the snow. Your dogs must get lost when they go out!
I saw the seeds at Home depot. I restrained myself with difficulty....
Maybe next time...
:)
yeah,,, more snow... never ends...
Deb, poor Lilly today for the first time she walked on melted snow and less than a 2 minutes she started screaming... goodness gracious the poor thing was in panic. I had to grab her and put her in warm water... then she just pees in my brand new bathroom... oh I could not believe... but it was my fault since I did not pay attention to her during the day!
They actually like snow but I have to make paths for them or they just sink in... so funny how they hop like a rabbit...
poor lilly
Poor Kassia!
good point
:)
Even Andrew hops like a rabbit in this deep snow! Fortunately he is taller (much) than Lily so he does not get lost.
He almost got a foolish squirrel this morning when it could not run in the deep snow. He got it by the tail but let go when it turned around to bite him!
I can't even see my garden under all this snow. Just little bits of twig sticking out. There is just the tiniest bit of fence sticking out too. Spike (garden guard dragon) is almost buried.
Thinking positively, all the plants are getting a good rest under their snowy blanket and will spring refreshed when the time is right (soon, I hope!)
Deb
Job Lot always has the seed trays out early - I'm glad for that. I'll have to get up there today or tomorrow, it's just in the center of my town. I posted two snow pics on the Garden Photos #48 thread this morning - check them out!
Under 60 days now!
It sounds closer if you say 2 months!
Oh, I did make it to Job Lot - got six bags of seed-starting mix. And a 20-oz. bag of Nestle's chocolate chips for $2!!! I made fudge.
Sue, you are my kind of gardener!!!! if you don't get enough soil, get chocolate! lol!!! they are both dark!
yay!!!! it's coming... and I can't believe Jan is almost over! really great!
Gotta have energy to garden! Glad we don't have that annoying extra day In Feb this year.
That annoying extra day is our family friend, John's B-day. He only gets one every 4 years so he's kinda partial to that annoying extra day. lol
oops... I guess not having a b-day is kind of interesting... I just hope he gets tons of presents every 4 years!
21 days until pitchers and catchers report in FL! How far behind ca spring be?!
Looking towards spring is helped by the indoor bulb garden in this room & the hyacynths (sp?) have a great scent.
I haven't tried hyacinth - the paperwhites (aka stinky flowers to my DH) are blooming and thats promising.
I have some left from fall that I should bring in and force. They are a nice glimpse of the future. How many days now? We have shaved off quite a number since this thread started at 78. It hit me last night that it is staying light out much longer now again. Every day a little bit closer.
Just brought in some forsythia branches for mom's room. She just loves flowers.
Loving the extra light.
