Hi Lisa! Hope you have a nice New Year meal today!
۞ Sweet Interruptions ۞ 83
LOL, you're funny Jaye.
Hi Lisa, happy new year! I have a box for you that I forgot to drop off at the post office yesterday. Will get it done tomorrow. If you're as tiny as Kim described you may not be able to use any of it.
I'm so excited! Just this afternoon Linda (planolinda) and I arranged to meet when she is in Little Rock tomorrow. She and her DH are coming to town to see the Clinton Library and staying in a hotel near me. We will meet for a glass of wine tomorrow evening. I'm so looking forward to it and will tell her hello from everyone. She posted on a recipe thread and mentioned she was headed this way ..... and well, you know how we are about meeting each other in person ........ 'nuf said!
sounds like fun ....deb. have a great time
Tater what are some other colors you love/like in the room. You could go cream with the walls and then go crazy with accessories. Throw pillows for now with some print and a mix of the current colors would blend it all together nicely till you decided on paint!!
I am ready to get my house back in order.......all the Christmas stuff is going down today and tomorrow. Getting everything wiped down and vacuumed !
I need to decide what to do with the front of my entry NOW that I have no Holiday to decorate for ........what annuals are good for Jan-March in zone 6? :)
Good afternoon and Happy New Years Sistahs!!! Nope didn't make it to midnight--conked out at 11:45 and didn't get up until 11:15!!! Body said it was exhausted from 3 days of non stop activities!! Loved every minute of it.
New Years Resolution re: gardening not to buy more plants than I have places prepared for!!! That will be a challenge for me indeed.
Kim the exotic, so happy to see you posting, miss you and oh my does your green and BEPs look delicious. Passing my plate please. I have stone grounded cornbread with the rough husk showing up orange from the buttermilk. Makes regular meal just not quite as good!! My Kim prepared a wonderful breakfast, errr lunch? Sourdough French toast with maple syrup!!
Flamingo Kim, how pretty. I too have trouble imagining you in overalls doing road work.
I love your dress.
Phyllis, show us what you have done with the new machine. Waiting but not very patiently!! That's me--want to see it and want to see it now!! LOL
Debra, Happy New Year and oh my what a year this will be for you!! A wedding and a new SIL. How exciting can that be. Did you faint when you saw the price of the shoes? I am glad to see I am not the only one who does that--finds something thinking it can't possibly be very expensive and then do a double take at the register. Thanks for your kind words about the picture. Just plain me!!
Audrey, so happy Lisa is better. I know how you must be worried. It is a mother thing and I don't think it ever passes.
Deborah, just think what 2009 has in store for you!!!! A new bundle to love, cherish and spoil rotten then send home to Mommy and Daddy. Oh the joys, the smiles, the tears and happiness that await you with this new adventure of being a grandparent!!
BJ, having to do some thinking on your swap! Brain is just a little slow still. Hope all is well and 5 months and counting. Oh my yes. ladybugs by all means on my light!!! Are you sure Don is up to the invasion?
Kathy, dear Kathy, what a fantastic way to start the new year with a call from you!!! It was great talking with you but boy I was wishing for some cabbage and ham. Prayers continued and btw, the visual of you in your pjs on the highway was just to funny!! Wish I had a picture!!!!
Cody, Lisa, Tina from MB, Tia, Tina Whatever, Darlene, Janice a wonderful new year to each of you!! Oh yes, Heather, mustn't forget out new niece, plus Donna in Jax, Brenda need to check in with us. Trisha and Laura holding down the west coast, Susan are you in our shell or out today? If I missed some one I am sorry.
Cindy no, your are not left out. The cranberry cobbler candle is nothing short of wonderful. How good it smells. Yes it is lite and burning now and the house smells good enough to eat!!!

Ham, peas, rice and cornbread.....just finished up our New Years Day tradition.
I made Custard and Chocolate Pies too .......for fun and to use my mixer!!
I am thinking the fam bought the mixer for them instead of me.......they are getting some goodies out of it for sure. :)
Are yall being lazy today? We are .......some kitchen duty is about all we have done.
Definitely a lazy day at this household!! Custard and chocolate pie, oh my, passing my plate please. I haven't had custard pie is so long that I had almost forgotten about them. Used to make them quiet often when hubby was living. Heather, I am so laughing, don't you know that is why you usually get really neat new kitchen items? Not for you but what you will make/bake with them for family. Same everywhere I am sure. Well enjoy the mixer!!!
Ain't Stacey and Kathy sweet. Wonder why JD is always at the top of our sistahs' minds when it comes to you Maid M...besides ladybugs? Love sourdough bread with a thick slab of butter! Sinfully delicious.. or dip in honey.
Debra, yes hug Linda tight for us. Tell her we miss her too.
Just cleaned off my greasy hands. Roast duck was yummy!! It took a long time thawing, so I took a short cut and it worked. Instead of dipping it in hot water, to let some of the fat melt, I just pricked the skin all over and roast it on a wire rack. Thank God I have an oven that has convection settings, and it cuts the cooking time to half! Also experimented with bottled Korean BBQ sauce. Used only that on the meat.
Thought of steaming cabbage, but Kel wanted cole slaw. Normally I fix cole slaw with Champagne dressing. Nothing in the fridge, but this bottle of Miracle Whip. He he he.. some salt and pepper added, throw in the Miracle Whip and good enough cole slaw!
We also charred some poblano peppers. It went well with the sweet roast duck. Oh yeah, Maid M. We had chocolate pie too, but store bought. Anything that don't require staying in the kitchen long!!
Happy tummies now...no good for nothing just watching football!
Heather, there's an article on DG about alternate decorations.

LOL... Marion... actually, he's looking forward to the invasion.
And, we've spent this entire day making plans for 2009... talked about all we need to do before ya'll get here... and then some other things that just need to get done. PLUS... (drum roll please)... we are making plans for another invasion of a different kind. I'm giddy here. Don and I have decided to host a Foreign Exchange Student for next school year, beginning in August. We filled out the application online today.
Don and his EX hosted 3 students in '97-00... and he really enjoyed the experience. I brought it up today, and asked him if he'd consider doing that again, and he jumped all over it. SO, .... here we go !!!
I made Cornish Game Hens today, with fried cabbage, and potatoes and onions cooked together, and yeast rolls... Don doesn't like BEP, so I don't cook them... we had a nice dinner though, and a great day together.
Sounds like every one is getting off to a good start for the new year. The Bike Club Party is finally over with!!!! I am about to drop but everyone seemed to have had a good time...Sage and Laura came over early to help...Sage takes Porter back to her room and they eat and she watches movies......Porter is getting old and a bit nippy if she gets a lot of strange people crowded around....she loves Sage and is happy to stay in the other room if Sage is with her....and Sage enjoys the job....she gets extra dessert.
Now I just want to pour a Baileys, build up the fire and not move until bedtime!
Here we are chatting it up and Phyllis is being productive! Having fun with your new embroidery machine, Phyllis? Looks like you are learning quickly!
yeah I am the destruction book comes in handy and I have learned real fast it is very picky when it comes to threading it ..it has to be just right
my first "lesson" is next weds. at 10 and you take your machine with ya..
Have fun! You will be spitting out designs like watermelon seeds!
I haven't taken mine in for lessons yet. Still need to spend some time on it myself so I will have questions ready. Supposed to start a quilting class in Jan though - better check on that date. Will learn some basic stuff through that class I'm sure.
it's addicting for sure I have stayed up late or should I say early mornin playing LOL
Okay now who are going to be enablers? After seeing all of the things everyone has been doing with embroidery machines ....I want one!!! Debra, Phyllis, BJ you are the enablers this go around. I am sure there are other who just haven't said anything yet!!! After May, maybe I will consider getting me one but BJ's is first!!!
BEP and cornbread were really good! Just hit the spot on a rather dreary day. It has looked like rain all day and I wish it would just rain and get it over with than just be dreary!! Not good for motivation!
Well Sistahs, we are now on our adventure into 2009. What fun it will be to see what awaits us around each corner. Counting the days until I can just play in my dirt!!!
Phyllis, I want an embroidery machine!!!
Nope. nope. nope. Will power. Knowing me, I'll be having all sorts of unfinished projects!
The only $$ machine I need to get right now is a new treadmill.
Knowing you Trisha, you'd find a thousand and one things to do till bedtime!! When do you ever rest?
That's promoting world peace BJ! The world can become a village through exchange program. My sister sponsored a German student, and that made it easy for one of her kids to qualify for an exchange program. You and Don will make great American mentors.
Yawning away here, tired but happy tired.
Wishing all a good night.
P.S.
God Bless everyone of you this year ;)
Jaye, I have done nothing since everyone left except be a couch potato.....Bill has nodded off, Sage is in watching ALL of her new DVD's she got for Christmas (decided having a double set of grandparents, aunts and uncles isn't such a bad thing, especially at Christmas)...I keep thinking I could cut out another Santa Robe, but my pillow wins......my system is finally saying just get some rest...
Night everyone....yawning along with you.
me an enabler????never LOL
Yes you Phyllis but I won't complain to loudly as I think I have been guilty of some myself. I do covet your machine but it will come later. Bj;s first and a new serger second then maybe I will think about an embroidery machine. Maybe!!! Keep the pics coming.
but mine sews too and can quilt LOL
Happy New Year, again, to ALL!!! I'm still having lots of trouble with my knee. I stayed in bed most of yesterday, but it's worse today. I got out a crutch to help take the weight off it. Not that that helps, much, I don't think I know how to do it!
Talk about procrastination, I need to get Lisa's boss's quillow done. Lisa decided she'd like to give her one instead of a quilt. I just can't get started, and her birthday is MLK day, and she wants to give it to her then!
Think I'm gonna be late!
Ciao
MORNING EVERYONE!!!!!
Morning lovely ladies. Hope it's not too cold for you niece.
Audrey, I've never attempted a quillow, think Marion had. Anyway, don't do anything you don't feel like doing, unnecessary rippings happened that way :D
Got to run, catch you all later!
Get thee behind me, Satan! Since my machine has been giving me fits I have been thinking about a new one and it, just might, could possiblly, be one that had an embroidery feature, too. You see, you ladies really are enablers of the best kind.
Morning everyone. Just taking a few minutes to skim real quick, and see how your all doing. And it looks like your all real busy. Bj, and the new student!! That will be nice. All the pressie being sent, and the New Year celebrations! I still have company, so I will be on Monday some time.
Take care.
I miss you all
LK
Morning Audrey, Staceypoo, Jaye, Janice and y'all reading catchup like me. Hope everyone has a wonderful New Year! It's a beautiful day today and I'm counting my blessings! Thank you God for this beautiful day and New Year!
Morning Linda Kay!
I wish Judye would stop back by on her way home. But she's only about 5 hours from me in Fla and they wanted to get home in 2 days going back instead of 3. I can understand that. Y'all just wouldn't beleive the warm a fuzzy feeling that came over me when Judy and her family visited me. The only thing missing was not have Marion here too. One day soon, Marion and I will hug, I just know it.
I am ashame that I haven't mailed my 2009 pressie off yet. I'll do it Monday for sure.
Madam Butterfly,
Don't feel bad I'm still working on mine so it probably won't go out until Monday.
We both can be a two tailed cows tail, Cindy. LOL
Morning Ladies.
Well, Yesterday was a very interesting day... not only did Don and I make a very big decision to be host parents to a foreign student. But, my rock tumbler went kaplooie. Don's already had to fix it once, and yesterday it went out again... the motor's burned up... guess I've just wore it out. So, I ordered a vibrating tumbler last night... supposed to be quieter and faster. We also took down all the Christmas decorations... funny how they come down a lot faster than they go up. Now, we just need to get all the boxes off the sun porch and back to the storage room. I haven't put all the furniture back where it belongs yet. I'm doing that today, and going to try to rearrange a bit to see if I can maneuver a bit more room in there.
But first, I've got to wake up some more... more coffee.
Hey, BJ. Did you get your ivy and philadanrum to run on along your grout line in your guest room? I took your idea and it works. Did you see the picture of me and Judy sitting in my sunroom? The plant was taking off onto my brick wall. Thanks! It looks good to me I think!
You are a brave soul to take on an exchange student. That's a wonderful experience and a good way to keep your house tidy at all times! LOL At least that's the motivate Id have if you'd be me. I don't think I would have the stamina for it, but you go girl friend! You'll gain a renewed motivation to keep your gardens looking good and can turn the student into a gardening buddy to boot! Tell him/her gardening is the American way. LOL
Deb, I potted the rooted ivy, but it's not climbing anything yet... the grout lines are on the opposite side of the room in there from the window. Nope, haven't done that yet... and YES, I did see the picture of you and Judy with the ivy behind you climbing the brick... beautiful... I will try it soon.
LOL... well, we didn't really make that decision to gain a helper around here... but that would be nice if they pitch in. One of the rules of the program is that they have to be assigned chores to do... treated like a part of the family. I know it will be so rewarding in so many ways though...
