WOOHOO-looks like you made out BJ!!!

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

I feel very grateful, Stacey... I love my gifts from everyone.

But mostly yesterday was special to me because my kids were here, and we all enjoyed each others company. One son didn't make it here this year, and I didn't hear from him, but that's another story from another book altogether...
Dinner was simple, and didn't take all day in the kitchen to cook... I love those "no stress" dinners... and all I had left over was some ham... that's a good thing.

Sounds like a wonderful time was had by all............after a snow/rain mix this afternoon we should be going back to our good old trusty, you can drive in it rain! Now if I can just get the driver side window to go UP on my car......otherwise I am going to need to get a tarp and by stock in Syran Wrap.....not exactly "prowler proof" !

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Hello everyone. Looks like you all had a terrific Christmas, with family and friends. And all the food!!!
We are back from San Antonio, and we had a great time with my youngest son, and family. For supper we had grilled bacon wrapped shrimp, and they were so good! And I lost count on the rum and coke drinks! ^_^ Oh well, ya gotta let go once in awhile?

Stacey, I love the purple fairy box that you painted and decorated, and the beautiful ornament you sent. You have to tell me how you made the ornament please?
Thank you for the lovely gifts!

Hey Debra how's the weather over there round lil rock?
Talked to my mom this morning and they were in southern Il and it was pea soup so they might not make it all the way today if it is foggy

Lovely gifts and hats girls very nice to put faces wtih names

Ferndale, AR(Zone 7b)

Hi Phyllis! It's warm - to be in the 50's or 60's today. The windows were all fogged over this morning because it was warmer outside than inside! Looks like rain later today and tomorrow. I don't like this kind of warm weather because it tends to spawn tornandos. Can do without those, thank you!

BJ, that machine looks like it can stitch anything. Bet you come up with some nifty craft ideas in addition to the boat seats. How did your DGD's like their rag purses?

Santa was good to all of us. I got another gift certificate to the quilt shop (they know me by name now) and an Ott Lite floor lamp. Never did hand work because I couldn't see at night - the only time I ever sit down. Well, I started on a needlepoint eyeglass case last night while watching tv with DH and worked a couple of hours! Whoo Hoo! Now all I need is a magnifyer to attach to it (hmmmm, they are on sale at Michaels.....)

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Come on, I know there are more hats out there??? We posted ours, so now it is your turn!
BJ, you will love that new machine! I have one also, but it has been packed in storage for a few years! Seems like when you have a commercial sewing machine, everyone knows about it, and wants a favor done, So I finally had to put mine away.

Instead of sleepless in Seattle, Laura is Computerless in Port Angeles she will post her Hat Picture as soon as they get back to Olympia. I am hoping they wait another day until the roads and streets melt clear....I slipped and schlepped over to their place and got a couple of days food an water put down for her kitties, and litter added to the box......thankfully we got one of the electric self cleaning cat boxes awhile back....so kitties are set until Laura gets back....or roads clear...........

It looks like everyone had a wonderful Christmas, I did. Here's one of the reasons.

Been wanting a chi again for the longest time. Haven't had one since I left home back in 72. Here's Pebbles and Widget.

I am happy, happy, happy! Two of my kids gave me gift cerficates to JoAnn's and I hit the jackpot today. I got a new cutting board (my old one was coming apart) at 40% off, and the Fabri-Calulator I wanted to figure yardages for 50% off, a June Taylor ruler 25% off and have enough left over to save until my next big quilt project. I am ready now to quilt and quilt.
Even picked up a few things at Michael's but I used restrant there.

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Such precious little furbies.......I Love them!!!!!

Congrats on the gift certificates and all your great finds at JoAnns........maybe tomorrow, right now 8-12 inches of slippy slushy on our street and I am not moving the car unless I have to pick up DH from work tonight....hoping he will get a ride with someone else or take the bus! We are starting to get a little rain so now the area will have to watch out for flooding....just pray it is nothing like we had last December...a lot people still have not recovered from that one!

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Well didn't I name Janice right... Sensible Janice!! Lolol!! You put us to shame there Sistah!! I broke the bank at Joann's today!! What with 75% off on Christmas items!!

So glad you all had a wonderful Christmas feast.
You got to share your brisket recipe Cookie. Anytime is a good time for brisket in this house. Your family looks just as lovely as you. I bet there were lots of laughter in your house.

Debra here's my huggggssss... for 'lost' eyebrows. You are too funny!! Mine are so scarce too, and MIL had to tattoo hers. Now for hair, mine used to be so thin till I got my blood going to my head again!

Hmm.. looks like LK has her name on any rum bottle that BJ may have. Watch out sistahs.. she'll be singing "Rum and Coca-Cola..." in May..

I know Phyllis is on pins and needles waiting for family. What will you be cooking for them tomorrow? Bet there are lots of catching up to do.

Please tell Laura to tolerate another day, till the roads are much safer for them, Trisha. Still like to know, was that a dove on your hat.. I recognize the frog.
You'll have fun at Joann's tomorrow Trisha!

So, who did the dishes, Cindy? Looks like they truly enjoy your cooking!

BJ.. you are just too too cute!!! A human Christmas decoration!!!!!
Well, at least you enjoy the company of those that spent their Christmas day with you, and not pining for the one that didn't make it.
I bet you'd soon be busy trying out your new machine.

Funny thing is today, a man offered to sell his commercial Singer to me at Joann's. He's shutting down his upholstery shop, and heard from Kel that I quilt.. (Yah, Kel can strike up conversations easily with strangers). Unfortunately (fortunately for Kel) I wasn't interested and I already had one too many machines.
You're right LK, the minute family heard I have a heavy duty machine.. the requests will be coming in. :D

Robin, Pebbles will soon be boss of the pack. I never had a Chi until Lola, and I love her personality. Next one will be another Chi, but I think I'll get one from a shelter.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Stacey, I'll wait till you get your gift.. it's only fair. We'll share the love together :D
Cody and Donna, I'll be waiting for the pics.

Fostoria, OH(Zone 5a)

Jaye, I talked to Laura and they are coming home this afternoon….Sean has to be to work in the morning….She said that the route they take the roads were clear on the way up once they got out of Olympia…..so I guess we will just say our prayers until they are safely home.

No, not a dove, I should have put one of my doves on it, it is just a little blue bird that I happened across when looking for items in the work room. The Snow flakes are the sequin type…my favorite aunt gave them to me years ago before she passed away and I have kept them in the shelf just waiting for the right project….this seemed like a good one. She is the one who taught me to craft before I was even old enough to go to school.

The rain has started here and the highs are supposed to be in the forties all week…..guess I need to get the shovel and see if I can dig out the drains on this end of the street…..I sure hope the area does not have the floods we had last year.

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Just taking a break here... I decided to rearrange my craft room today to find a place to store the new machine until I get around to use it. There wasn't even one empty covey hole, so I had to start moving stuff around... well, as usual, I got carried away and started going through stuff and deciding what to get rid of. I'm about half way through the shelves.

Well, all this got Don motivated to clean his shop, and he's about half way across now too. But he had to go to Lowes to get some storage shelf thingies to separate his screws. He just doesn't appreciate my concept of an odd screw jar... sheesh.

LK, and Jaye... my DIL has already hit me up to do a project she's wanting done after seeing the new machine. UGH.

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

Hellooooooooooooooooooooo,

Ladies I need your help. I need a pattern to make a slipcover for my reclinger. I saw some butterfly print at Wal-Mart that will match the sofa and Rick's reclinger. I had bought one but it was a cheapie and didn't last very long. The reclinger was my late hubby's and I just love it.

Ferndale, AR(Zone 7b)

Oh, Robyn, that Pebbles is toooo cute! Looks like she's making friends with Widget quickly - or trying to be his boss. How much does a chi puppy weigh? An itty bitty bit?

Cindy, wish I could help but have never done a slipcover of any kind. Have you tried googling 'recliner pattern'? Good luck - that will be cute with butterflies.

Trishia, please be careful up there. You're in the news every day with all that record breaking snow.

I'm declaring 2009 'the year of getting organized'. Have gotten a start already by clearing out a few piles of junk. After the first of the year it will be on to the closets, drawers, cabinets, etc. Not sure where just yet, but I'm going to have a designated sewing corner SOMEWHERE to store all this fabric so I can actually see it. Am thinking the walk in pantry in my utility area will be the spot - easy access and space to put bins and drawer units. Plus I can sit here at the computer and look at it ..... LOL!

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Cindy, I have no clue how to make a cover for a chair that has moving parts... I made a cover for a love seat once... but it didn't recline... and I drew the pattern from just taking measurements. Do the pattern books in the fabric stores have patterns for them? Maybe you can google "recliner cover pattern"...

Ferndale, AR(Zone 7b)

Brilliant minds work alike ..... don't they BJ? lol

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

LOL.... we're even both cleaning out the clutter!!!.... Yep... great minds...

Ferndale, AR(Zone 7b)

There's something about after Christmas and the beginning of a new year that makes me want to de-clutter. Just planning on doing more of it this year. Good luck with yours!

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Thanks... my goal for 2009 is to not collect the clutter, but I think that might be setting myself unattainable goals... so, I'll just keep decluttering till the day I die... I suppose.

Fostoria, OH(Zone 5a)

Cindy, people who recover usually take the material off the current piece of furniture (carefully) and use that as a pattern. I've never had the courage to try!
There is something about a new year...we clean, declutter, go on diets, make resolutions...Come on sistahs, let's hear what YOUR resolution is for this New Year and how you plan on keeping them!
I can make 'em OK, it's the keeping that causes me problems.

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

My folks are staying in AR tonight they were headed to little rock last I talked to them.
with the fog they had they thought best to stop and rest then come on in tomorrow

smoked turkey, scalloped taters , a salad, a veggie and I have some turnip greens ready to heat up for something new to try. ..but son in law to be will eat them if no one else will LOL...but this is all for Sunday as we will do gifts then so tomorrow will be left over lasagna

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

I have learned over the years to not make a bunch of resolutions that I probably can't keep....so my one resolution is to take each day as it comes and try to do the best I can with what the Good Lord has given me.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

I have to declutter my mind first sistahs.

BTW, Olfa rotary tools and their blades are 40% off at Joann's.

Sounds good Phyllis. Do you smoke your own turkey?

Just thinking here.. next time when it's this bad during the holidays, instead of travelling in dangerous conditions.. why not have a gathering via webcam. I know.. it lacks the physical presence of loved ones, but at least y'all get to see each other in real time.
That's what my sisters and I did one year for the Malay new year. It saved us air fare.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

A good and practical resolution there Trisha!

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

This is the Beautiful little box I got from Stacey.....I love birds of all kinds and this is perfect to put my matches in for lighting the fireplace....much prettier than the cardboard box they come in....

Laura just called and they are on their way home....

Thumbnail by zhinusmom
Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

I don't make New Year resolutions anymore either... makes me feel like a failure when I don't carry through... the only resolution I ever kept was to either spend all the change in my purse or empty it into a dish every night... just got really heavy to carry around, ya know? Well, it was simple enough to do, and after a year, it was a habit... and now, my back thanks me.

Instead of making resolutions, I now say a prayer... here's the one I wrote for this year.

Now I lay this year to rest,
I tell myself I did my best.
I made some dear and loving friends.
We laughed and cried, us chatty hens.

And now we enter a brand new year.
Of fun and swaps and grins and cheer.
We’ll shed a tear for those who hurt.
We’ll pray for those who need support.

My prayer today, and all year long
For each to learn a brand new song.
To whisper the words to a sistah in need.
And to hear the tune in every deed.

I pray to take the hurt and pain
Replace all that with peaceful refrain.
To give us each a sense of success,
And teach us how to accept the mess.

AMEN.

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

AMEN......BJ that is beautiful....

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Amen, Amen and Amen!

(Chris) Des Moines, IA(Zone 5a)

Happy Day After Christmas everyone! I was quite impressed that I only had to go through ONE page to find you tonight LOL.. I'm getting better or I'm getting addicted, not sure which!

Looks like everyone had a great holiday and I'm so thankful for that. To be with family is the ultimate gift, don't you think?
Made it down to DS house without too many sad thoughts..the rough time was going by Hugheley, which is the nursing home that my mom used to live in. I shed a few tears there, but then told myself to stop and enjoy the day, cause Mom wouldn't want me sad!! So we went to sis's house and had a good time. My DS is fortunate in that she has 3 beautiful granddaughters and they were all there (7, 5 and 2) What a riot they are and they all love to see me, cause I'm not above horsing around with them :)

Jaye, thank you for adding me to the list and for your kind words..they helped alot :) When you have to make your next change to the list, would you mind putting "scrapbooking" by my name? DH gave me a gift card to Hobby Lobby and I'm trying to decide if I want to buy a bunch of embellishments or wait until the Cricut cartridges go on sale and buy one of those.. decisions, decisions!

I'll attach a cute picture here. We have an indoor kitten named Miss Sarah and we spoil her rotten! But in the last couple of months, we realized that we had 2 half grown cats living in our shed. Well, DH started feeding them and now they come onto our porch every day to be fed. (it's so funny cause Boots will still hiss at us whenever we come out of the house and Tiger runs and hides, but they love the food, so it doesn't take long for them to come back up on the porch!) The picture is of Miss Sarah watching them eat.. she's not thrilled and it's so funny watching her! You'll see that she's not quite totally on the shelf and that's because she knows that she's not supposed to be on there. So she's smart enough to have figured out that as long as SOME of her body is still on the loveseat, she'll not get yelled at for being on the shelf! She's a brat, let me tell you :)

have a great evening..
Chris
