This is my project...need to make a new one just slightly larger than this...
Best/Worse &What did I learnt today/Chat with Friends #76
Betty-what is it?????
And yes-I find myself in that area all the time-thank goodness my craft stuff is in the basement so I can get started B4 DH gets up-otherwise I would twiddle my thumbs and get in too much trouble shopping online!!LOL
Morning Starzz!!! Oh my that looks like a mess-how do you get the carpet dried out so as to prevent mold??
Morning you early risers. No I don't feel bad at all about staying in my nice warm bed until 8-8:30. Especially since I stayed up to read until almost 1 last night.
But today is a new day; sun is out for the first time in...can't remember when. I only have a week left of my vacation and I have gotten nothing on my list done, so today is wash clothes and in between sew on my T-sirt quilts. Just having my cuppa while chatting with you but must be off with nose to grindstone.
Janice, can you show me a block or so of your 't-shirt' quilt is it similar to the rag quilt I'm going to do??? You should have travelled here, think of the fun sewing and crafting we could have done this week...imagine what we'd accomplish..
Went to the post office to make sure Cedric and Bailey got away and there was a few gnomes from the Canada swap group waiting to be picked up..off to the grocery store and omg you could smell the hot cross buns baking from outside so you could only purchase pkg. of 8..had to have them..still hot when I got home...
It's bright and not overly cold so took down all the lights, put away santa and the metal Christmas trees..this aft on my break I'll take down the front deck tree..now that the wind is down I'll start a fire..made about 5 trips to the pit with tree brances...won't rush to put things away from inside but perhaps I should while I can make it to the back shed without 4' feet of snow...whatever I get packed up today I'll leave for the boys coming tonight to store..am sure the 10 totes I have will be easy to stay and mice free...
Looked at the damage of the fence, it was neighbors large back fenceline tree that came down..think it was his fence not mine otherwise I'd be calling the insurance so that it can be replaced come spring...maybe I'll have a talk with him re paying 1/2 deductable so that it does get done..hate not having something that divides us..
Carol, big job cleaning up..even the wet vac helping so much it's getting the water emptied from it..heavy for us gals..did the water reach your Christmas rec.room? Dehumidifiers would help take the dampness out..does your furnace have one? guess no swimming for you this week or was it also this week that it's closed...so many questions right?
Stacey, yes it does cost to do crafting but you are right, so many more things we could get into trouble with..I've enough craft materials in knitting/sewing/crochet/stained glass/embroidery/scrapbooking and painting etc. etc. that one would think I wouldn't have to go out and buy anything to work on but each time a project comes up, there is always something more I need..sure it's the same with all of you
Carol, no my Janome is a top make that allows me to virtually sew any type of fabric...just wish I had a long arm commercial unit, would make it easier but for the amount I do (and I don't want to encourage anyone bringing me more projects) it will do...
Stacey, the tarp cover is for a scoot...
Hi all! Just to let you know that I am still here. Do read all the posts. I just have to get on this housecleaning and get things done before spring. I have so many flowers coming. I know I shouldn't have but I did!!!! Hope all is well with you all. I want to work on my kalidiscope pics too. LOVE & HUGS BEV
Forgot to ask if anyone has heard from Jesse???
No, Betty, it isn't like a rag quilt. You use non-woven interfacing on the back of the T-shirt under the design you want to use and then (using a square ruler) cut the design into a square you can quilt with. You look at the T-shirts first and pick the biggest design and make that your pattern for the size of the squares. Mine are very large at 15 x 15. Then block and border like you would a regular quilt but with a light weight or no stuffing inside. Then tie the quilt instead of quilting; otherwise the quilting would take away from the T-shirt designs. I'll post a pci when I get to a stopping place.
Very interesting, looking forward to seeing photo Janice..
Bev, no haven't heard from her..odd that she would post saying not well at all then no more posting? Perhaps they did admit her to the hospital and we'll just have to wait until she posts..saying prayers..someone did mention though that they thought she posted after saying she was ill on another thread...maybe the black hole has her for a day or so, either way, sending prayers...
I've worked all day and not sure I'm making progress, flipping from this thing to that...have all the lights and trees on front deck reason to put into totes...
Got the basic tarp top sewn together but really need the 'scoot' so called Doug and he was in Penetanguishene working on it in his friends shop, took what I'd done so far and all is well..even did repairs the the big propeller tarp and brought it with me...might do him another year or so..we came to the conclusion in order to best finish this project I should have the scoot but can't so me and my machine and sewing goods are going to the shop tomorrow unless of course he has to leave for the islands..said power was off and his hot tub on the main deck is down to 40 degrees, can do major damage so if a friend on another island can't go and get a generator to it, he'll be leaving first thing in the morning...so my plans will depend on his plans...
Will sew for another hour or so then will play cutting out 10" blocks..stopped at Fabricland and bought 4 more meters..got home and notice I must have forgotten a part of the tarp, here it was hanging on my back door..guess Doug made a trip so I'd have all the pieces...
Bev when you say you got more flowers...do you mean you ordered more or are starting more..know a lot of you start your seeds early, I'm not good with that so will wait till I can purchase them in the nursery, save myself a lot of disappointment...might have to go visit Carol again, she lives not far from one of the nicest garden centers...besides, she's the cutest, loved my visit with her and her gardens...left me awe struck..
Janice and Stacey, you should come for a weekend, arriving Friday and we'd go visit...
I have posted a different one on the Viewing Thread for you Betty.......this is a small Fairy with a face from one of the Polymer Molds......I can't say I care that much for this face, think I like the other small "Lady" much better.....but I had this one , and a package of doll hair that had belonged to Bill's grandmother and decided to play around with it. I have discovered that I really am not a hair dresser. I guess it takes a bit of practice.
I do hope Jesse checks in soon....the last post I have found so far was on the 25th......
We are getting the first of three heavy rains that are supposed to come through this week...was talking with Shelly on the NW Forum and they are starting to get some flooding down in Oregon....so I imagine we are getting our share up here also...have not had the TV on today. It is just nasty out....even the dog does not have any interest in going outside.
I ordered daylilies. I have planted daylillies, hostas,cannas, and red yucca in my aquarium in the house. Tried to send a pic but won't go through. Will try later. HUGS BEV
Hi Stacey..
Got the water all vacuumed up..
The carpet is a special kind for basements. It has a nylon web backing and no padding..so it dries out very well..
Betty I am using my son's Wet vac..huge thing..and it has a drain on the bottom..no tipping..just take the cap off and let it run out into the sump pump hole. I must get one for myself.
My own, is the small one that you have to keep lifting and dumping....very hard on the back.
The water stayed in the back half of the Christmas room....away from the Chritmas tree and firplace end.
Here is a before pic with some of my family.
Morning...wicked out there, can see things flying around, trees swaying just can't seem to settle down, tummy is churning big time, have been fighting trying to sleep for over an hour so up I am..
That shop vac sounds wonderful Carol, I also will be on the lookout for it before spring comes...such a worry isn't it...love the family photo..now that I visited, I can just picture you all around the fireplace ...
Greg just taked down the frame holding the plastic the other night as it was dark, said he'd drop in last night but no go..guess who will get a call at 7:30am just before he leaves for work..
Trisha went and looked at the fairy photo..I'm sure as you make the next 10 lol you'll get better at the hair!
We have had that wind all weekend into yesterday-has been blowing things EVERYWHERE!!! My one neighbors trampoleen (sp??) blew into the others, boxes put out for the trash company all blew up & down the street-looks a mess!!
Sorry you have an upset tummy Betty:(
Starzz-when our basment flooded this last summer we were going to get that kind of carpet if we had to totally replace ours-we ripped out all the padding and the carpet itself was salvagable, so we are good for the moment....our sump pump failed when we got 8" on a Friday night, then rain all that weekend-it was a mess!!
What a mess! I'm sorry you all have been having problems with the wind, rain, and flooding. I don't have a basement, heck I don't even have a crawl space and my house is on a hill so I'm ok there, just the tornados LOL Dave says, "You and your dang tornados!" They're not my tornados, I don't want them!
Nice pic Carol! Looks like you had a nice time.
Huh, I don't have much to say today, not much going on I guess.
It sure does take some time when a person has to start reading at December 21. I must have been busier than I realized, because it had been that long since I had posted here. It sounds as though everyone is enjoying themselves and that is always good to hear. Christmas was really wonderful with having a small child involved. There were several years when I looked upon the holidays as just extra work for myself. Having Emily in the family makes a big difference. She is beginning to talk up a storm. There are several letters that she cannot pronounce and they come out sound like an "m." Ben and his wife Nikki refer to me as grandma and Emily is able to say mamaw. So, I might just end up being called Mamaw. That suits me just fine.
Sorry about the flooding at your place Carol. I lived in a rental house once upon a time which had that sort of problem but thankfully I was spared too much damage. Sounds as though some areas are having some really rough weather conditions and road problems. I hope that everyone will continue to be safe and healthy throughout the rest of the holidays.
I am like Betty in that one of my son's was born on New Years Day too. Not sure how that will be celebrated this year. I need to find out what restaurants are open on New Years Day and possibly take them to dinner. Ten days after Ben's birthday is Tucker's, so we have a busy month.
So good to hear about everyone's celebrations and goings on. Again, stay safe and healthy and I will check back when I can.
Ruby
Glad to have you pop back in Ruby! We start out with a bicycle club New Years Day Ride and Pot Luck at our house (One thing I am serving is your Applesauce Cake!!!).....then daughter and two nieces have January birthdays.
Today have my husband home to help so trying to get the Tree taken down and my small duplex in shape to be invaded by anywhere from 25 to 50 wet and hungry cyclists on Thursday.......this is our 4th year. It is a lot of fun but I am always so glad to see the last guest out the door and start getting back to normal for the upcoming year.
Have a Happy New Year!
Oh that's right Trisha, you have that get together coming up. It's always great to have a party like that and it's always great to see the last of the party leave LOL
Evening all, wow, started my day before 2am this morning , left for the workshop to finish the 'scoot' tarp and just arrived home..if I don't sleep tonight, well, who knows what I'll do...
Has been a productive day though..worked on tarp for about almost 2 hrs. this morning (2am..lol) had coffee while cuttingout almost all my quilt blocks, left the house around 8:30..worked until noon and Doug and I went to his dads (Uncle Allan) for lunch, didn't stay very long and back to the shop..I said I wasn't leaving until this project was done..at 5:00 pm it was..lucky me, got to come home...
Ruby, how old is your son who celebrates his birthday New Years..Greg will turn 40..we are having special celebrations on Saturday for him...guess there aren't that many restaurants open on New Years but really it is a time that a lot want to go out to enjoy..staff want time off with families don't they...I can just imagine the joy with Miss Emily celebrating really her first Christmas that she can express herself..isn't it marvellous to see it out of the eyes of children..
Crissy, did you not have to work today? or are you off until the 5th like most? next time sweetie, think I'll buy a house at the top of the hill versus the bottom of the hill..I get everyone's runoff...
Doug made me a sewing table at the back of the shop...
Mechanics were working on trucks today while I sewed...must say 'no swearing' well maybe once when I burnt my finger on the light while changing bobbins..lol
See my 'little visitors'...must take them out tomorrow as all they have done while visiting is 'work/work/work' and they sure don't feel like whistling..
*waving*
hello all, i know i go missing in action a lot but im still here and i read your posts. Oh betty, i know how u feel about family and difficulties.. im sorry u were hurt. u are the sweetest woman i know!
Hello to all, we are dealing with the heat whilst u are dealing with the snow! its ok tho.
I get quite tired these days so dont do too much. spend time with my grandkids and try and keep my head in a healthy place. some days are harder than others.
my older sister has just been diagnosed with cancer,,, she is only two years older than me. she hsnt spoken to me in three years as i dared to disagree with an opinion of hers and so she wont tell me whats going on... sad really. my family is quite disfunctional so its difficult.
anyways, hope ur christmas was a good one, santa couldnt come to our house this year which is a little sad :0( but hopefully there will be a few spare dollars in the house next year!
i bet u all got nice things too!
well have a good new year eh?
xx
Guess I don't have to tell you it's bath time then off to bed..perhaps I'm like a baby, confused with what is day and what is night...now what do they say you should do when that happens? flip them upside down then up again a few times?
Best be off..
Speaking of new little friends Betty.....we are friends with a couple here who are originally from England. We were discussing Cedric, and the Traveling Gnomes the other day. David has a verrrry old rubber mold for a garden gnome that belonged to his Mother in England. He has offered to let me pour some at some point if we think we can unmold them without damage to the mold......I am dying to get a look at it....I know the old material can be very fragile.....I am hoping it is in good enough condition to get one good molding, then we could create a new mold from that.....Have to add that to my 2009 Projects List..
We crossed posted Laura..you know on my way home from Midland was thinking of you, truly I was, was praying that things in 2009 will improve..
Often wonder what one would have to do to be completely sheltered from 'stress' and idiots..lol..seems I can stay completely on my own, not go out, and still end up in a pickle...
Your hard part Laura was Christmas and mine New Years...I've plenty I can do to keep myself busy/busy tomorrow and New Years' Day..I watch the hours normally and have a play by play, hour by hour, minute by minute of when I lost Roger...if I didn't know any better I'd swear he picked that day to die purposely..just joking, know he would be...so between keeping busy and my friends here on DG maybe the 2 days will pass without my joining some in that black hole...let's hope...
Will add prayers Laura for your sister as well..must be hard knowing how she must be feeling and still not wanting to reach out..
Trisha, I can only say 'thank goodness you and I don't live in the same neighborhood..imagine the mischief we'd get into..not really mischief but we'd have to start a business in order to rid ourselves of some of these 'treasures'
Meant to ask...what have all of you planned for New Year's Eve....
Betty you could cover the Golden Gate Bridge if asked! I swear, lady, is there nothing you wont tackle and finish? I keep saying to myself, "and she isn't THAT much younger than I am!". 'Course I like to sleep in till at least 8:00 and 10-11pm finds me sawing logs so I guess part of it is you have more time to work. But I am still amazed at the variety of your talents.
~~~~Waving Back Laura~~~~~ So good that you popped in as we do worry when we don't hear from all of our friends regularly. It has been a difficult year for many of us and we just pray the New Year will be better for all.
I can definitely identify with disfunctional families.....my husbands side of the family went off in different directions and rarely have any contact with each other since my father in law passed.....it IS very sad that families have to be that way.
Please do keep in touch with us.
BETTY, ARE YOU SITTING DOWN?????? Keith, out Postal Carrier jsut came to the door.....Guess What Just Arrived??? Yes, the Santa Kit Finally showed up, Opened, but it appears all is there!!!
OH Yes, if we lived near each other we could get into all kinds of "Trouble" couldn't we? Wouldn't it be fun?!?!?
OMG Trisha..the santa kit...where in the world did it go during these past what, couple of months???? what is the date I mailed it on??? I am laughing..well you just make a few more and enjoy..call it a belated Christmas present..lol just what you needed right, more santa faces....must have been at customs..
The least the postal workers could have done was make the santa for you, be creative..how does one lose a parcel for so long?
Janice don't go by me 'sweetie' as a guideline, I just have enough stamina to be this energetic...always say 'you are a long time dead' lol
Some of the time I shake my head and wonder how I get into such projects...we had a little bit of a problem with the side velcro pieces that fit under the handle bar..Doug didn't think we'd ever be able to fix it..when all was done, it was more elaborate than the other tarp..told Doug the reason I come up with these things (because he asked) is that I'm not perfect in what I undertake..I screw up and then have to be really innovative to hide the mistakes...
Had Bullwinkle and the lads (Canadian thread swap as was Cedric and Bailey) so now that this project is done, perhaps they can keep me occupied over the next few days...
Do hope some of you are around to keep us company, keep us smilling and bring in the New Year....
Laura don't feel bad! Scotty and I both had the flu for xmas so couldn't get together with the boys. Oh well we will be there another day. We don't do anything for New Yrs either. I want to play outside!!!! I did get out today and take my little fish pond out of the ground and bailed water for an hour. I am cutting down on work so it had to go. I will keep it and put my fish in it while I clean the bigger one in the spring. Will say prayers for your sis. LOVE & HUGS TO ALL BEV
HI Betty, your thread is so filled with new names, I hardly know anyone anymore, but thought I would stop by to wish you all Happy New Year and the very best that '09 has to offer. Our weather has been unbelievably warm since just before Christmas, and I had Ethan the weekend following Christmas, and it was all I could do to keep him from "working in the 'yarden'". I thought you might like to see him, since he is growing so quickly. He is still a delight, and he tells me that I really am a good Star Wars player. That's what we played all weekend, and we took turns being the bad guy. We had a good time. He is very soon going to outgrow me.
Wishing you the very best....
Sharon
So Happy New Year to all of you....
Stay warm, and Carol, I hope you stay dry!
Am I the first one up this am???Wowsers-I beat Betty....hmmm....
Stacey, you have me laughing first thing this a.m.
Just grouting the washroom tub tiles...
Shar, unbelievable how quickly they grow..lucky you to be having him in the 'needy' stage..you are right, once they get to be teens life with grandma will diminish and rightly so..notice now that Kyle when visiting is here more on 'help grandma do a few things' rather than play..
Lucky you weather wise..let Sailor out this morning and it's awfully cold, at least it is winter weather versus this playing around with spring/rain/sleet..guess you find yourself situated in a good weather zone or is this unusual?
Yes, we have some lovely ladies who have joined us but the others still visit..with Christmas and New Years many are away and/or busy with family...it made my day to see you post...Star Wars warrior ...hmmmm...can picture that..things we don't do for the little ones..last year you were making tents were you not...Ethan still enjoys gardening?
Bev I keep thinking that we've had snow since beginning of November so that's 2 months, another 2 to 3 and it will at but be over...imagine, this year having such a long winter..we'll all be stir crazy..I'm missing my gardening as well..we'll all have to go back in time via photo's and enjoy and plan something spectacular for spring, maybe an art piece, new area garden, walkway..something...
Are you all ready for our 'scrapbooking' challenge? lol..almost January...
Cousin Doug is coming over first thing this a.m. to help me do something and look at the counter top and zinc in my washroom that I want to replace so best finish this grouting...
Talk on break..
We are in like this crappy weather trough that gets the worst it seems everytime in the winter!! If work gets snow, we get ice, if work gets 2", we get 6":(
