Hello all... it's been a busy day so far and I'm still running a bit behind! Making split pea and ham soup... wondering how the altitude is going to affect that... the split peas are taking quite a long time to soften. Wish me luck! Talk to you later...

Afternoon everyone...not quite yet foe me.....got Bill to work....managed to Creep and Crawl out to Michael's to get some bases for Santas.....if no one goes over about 20mph and avoids the hills it isn't too bad right now....we have another storm predicted for tonight...up to 4 inches more. I'm hoping we cancel spin class tonight....at least my son is staying home, he lives on top of one of the steeper hills in town. Left his car at the shop last night and got a ride with a friend with 4 wheel drive, says he will walk, or come down when the bus starts running again. Smart Boy.

MERRY CHRISTMAS, Donna... see, there really is a Santa Claus !!!

Well, it's been decided... spoke to DIL while at the store, and Christmas Dinner will be at my house again this year. We also decided that this year's "Chinese Christmas" game will be hand made or regifted gifts. No newly store bought things... PLUS, I found out that the grand kids won't be here... just the oldest granddaughter, but she's really an adult now, so we're going to have an ALL adult Christmas.

Then, I stopped at the China Cafe for an all you can eat take out buffet... you'd be surprised how much food I can get in one of those styro containers....

Now, thinking about what to hand make for our Christmas Game... now, let me see !!!!!!!!!!!!!.....

Donna--that is so wonderful of this group to be there for you this Christmas! Bless each one of you for your generous hearts!

Well.....Another episode in the life of Linda……………
Well it appears that I came VERY close to being a victim of a scam on Craigslist. As some of you may know I recently bought a doublewide mobile home in a Senior Citizen Mobile home park right next to the home I lived in. After getting moved to the new home I placed an add on Craigslist for the home I originally lived in—either for rent or for sale at a reasonable price. I received a lot of emails inquiring about various aspects of the home which I responded to. I have shown it to several people that really like it but did not totally suit their needs, or were not over 55 yrs old. However there was a chemist that worked in a hospital in London that wanted it “sight unseen”! Yeah right!!! Dark pinkl flag goes up! He and his wife and 9 yr old daughter would move in Jan 1st when he would be coming to the states to work at the EPA on special assignment for a year! Cool! Yeah right again!! Told him children could not live here and through many emails, it was just him and his wife—daughter was not coming and he was 57. He was going to send a check through his “US associate” to cover deposit, rent etc and also wanted me to handle the delivery of his furniture from Ausken Furn Co. (hmmmm..which is in Nigeria? After doing research) Well, today the check arrived via UPS for $14,500.00!! Yippeee! Going shopping and get my pansies I want! NOT!!! Straight to the bank I went and the check was (just as I thought!!) BOGUS! Sent from TX with an IA return address, First Union National Bank in NJ (Hello?? It has been Wachovia for awhile now!) and a persons Name and address from CT! Told the gal I guess I would not be getting my pansies after all!! She told me to contact JSA fraud dept which I did and he came out and suggested I destroy the check (which I did). From what he told me, it is legal to send these (counterfeit checks??) but if you cash them you are in deep doo-doo???!!! What is wrong with this picture?? I would be the victim/criminal if I had not been wise enough to see this was a scam and the perpetrator would not be charged?? If they caught him-which is unlikely since there are too many scams going on for the law to investigate?

Ok—I am through with my rant! But wasted a whole day dealing with this BS and still do not have my home rented or sold and no pansies either. I will go get some tomorrow though cuz I really want them. I will use legit $$$ though! Lol!
Hope everyone had a better day than I did!!!

Bless all of you for being such caring wonderful people!!! Though I don't find time to stop in to chat much and you all are very chatty! lol! I do try to keep up a little. Will try to join in more as I can and try to keep up (hard task there!!!!)

Linda

Coushatta, LA

Kim i see you made it back from walmarts.

Dolores, CO(Zone 5b)

Oh, LInda, I'm so glad you didn't get scammed, but you were very close! If anyone ever asks to send you more money than you are asking for an item and then to send some of it back to them, it is a scam. Often, these checks clear at first, then it's discovered (by the bank) as much as two weeks later that it was counterfeit. Be careful out there everyone... I breed puppies and advertise them on different websites, and we own an RV park which we also advertise online, and I get email scams all the time. For the puppies, it's usually someone who wants to buy one for their son's (or daughter's birthday)... starts out sounding legitimate but is not. If it doesn't sound quite right, it's because it's not.

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Dang, Linda... I've heard of that scam, but never really knew anyone that it actually happened to. Sheesh... glad you had those flags go up... and didn't cash the check...

Good Answer Stacey

Ferndale, AR(Zone 7b)

Hi Tina and Tina's mom! Glad to see you again Tina and thanks for bringing your mom.

Linda, I'm so proud of you for using your nogg'in! I used to work for the Better Business Bureau in charge of all the complaints and investigations for the state. You would not believe how many internet scams are out there. Many of them originate from Nigeria - the scam capitol of the world. Young people get wealthy off greedy Americans who keep sending them money thinking they are going to get a huge pay-off later. The type of scam you experienced is very common, too. You've got good instincts - wish more people would listen to their instincts instead of their greed! Good luck, hope you find a sincere renter soon.

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

Laura and Trisha, someone in your town sent these into weatherundergound. I wished I could sit in my hot tub and enjoy the snow :(

Well--I went to Lowe's and got some pansies anyway--just to make myself feel better! Donna they did not have that deal at the Lowe's on Cassat but I did get enough to do the fountain/planter~ I went to water them and the front spigot was not working so I called the guy that did that plumbing and evidently have a problem with the lines he put in under the trailer.
He will look at it tomorrow and get it fixed. I filled the watering can several times and got them watered. Deal with the faucet tomorrow. Then we noticed blinking lights inside my car --it seems when I have the security lock on the lights flash and that might be why my battery keep going dead! Another issue to deal with! lol! Wish that check had been good! hehehe! The officer who came out for the report did get lots of chuckles--I asked him to keep an ear out for someone that was looking to buy or rent the home next door, someone who might like to buy my car and he asked "what else can I do to help?" My response---"come back in the spring and help me plant my gardens!!! He said that I had a great sense of humor for someone who has faced alot of adversity!!! Hey! ya gotta keep a sense of humor when things get tough or you sink into depression like I have been known to do> NO more! Gonna keep positive and face things as they come, and find enjoyment in each day.

Linda

Jacksonville, FL

Yes Donna! HE WAS A HUNK!!! but I did behave and was very lady-like! (My mind wasn't thou! heheh!)

(Laura) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

I have a friend with a covered hot tub that has used it during the snow.

Coushatta, LA

Kim i sent you emails.

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Wouldn't mind that tub.....but it it isn't in this budget!

Have to head out in a few, drop a package at the post office and see if Dh can come home before the roads get much worse...it is really coming down right now ! Have had the scanner on and it sounds like all tow trucks, police etc. have their hands full with all the cars off the roads and into each other and... and......
