She's about to.....#40 Brug Addicts Chat

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Karen, can't you put your baby on a leash to go outside? We used to have a runner line, just outside the back door, and if the door was opened, our dog got hooked up to the leash. She could still run, just not out the fence!

LK

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

Linda Kay, I just love you.......You're not going to let me give up hope...{{{hugs}}}.....okay......your post made me do alot of thinking.. I do have a brand new runner line that is in the garage, never used. I had already called the rescue lady and told them I would be bringing her back right after Christmas, so I called her back just now and told her I wanted to try the runner line for a few days and see how she did on it. The lady also gave me the telephone number of a dog psychiatrist that the rescue keeps on a paid basis to evaluate their Bostons....She said since I got Lexi from them it wouldn't cost me anything to call and discuss it with her.I do want to try this option before giving her up. We are already so attached it is unbelievable. Wish us luck, thanks hon ☺

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Lots of luck for you Karen. I do hope it works for you. She will probably have a fit the first few times she goes out, but she will get used to it! Give it a try, and I hope it works for you.

Morning everybody!!!!!!!!

The same to you to Crissy!!!!!!

Karen. The lead runner is a good idea, btu ya gonan have to stil watch yoru pup on it. if she that good of an exscape artist and wants the freedom to run, she will if she can't get any firther than as far as th erunner allows her to go, to chew through the lead rope.

I have tried several rescue runner dogs on them and have gone out to find they have chewed through the platic and the wires to get free to roam again.

They may do fine on it for a while, but then one day they get the urge when ya not looking and chomping away they will be.

One thing ya might do if ya talk to the people ya got the pup from and talk to the vet is they have prozac and other pills liek that for dogs to calm them down a bit so you cna train them. Somethign else ya might look into.

Worse cold coming for alot of ya folks. Hoping that you can all stay warm. Been awhiel since I been in them negative 30 below snow and winds, but am feelign for ya. Wish I had a giant fan to blow it all away for ya.

Maybe it will mean sprign is coming ealier. We can hope.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Morning everyone. Where are you all? Still sleeping? I know it is Christmas and you are all so very busy!

Linda.. we aren't sleeping.. we are doing elfy-type stuff ;) Chrissy, nice of you to stop in, looks like summer blooms for you down there! Gorgeous pic!

I wish you and all the HBA's a happy Christmas and all the best in 2009.

I'm trying to finish things..wrapping, baking, and that H word thing.. There WAS a warming wind from the south, Star? You did that?? Gosh! Thanks. It's 36 degrees, the warmest it's been in days.. double digits AND without a negative sign in front! Still white from the last snow and now it's raining and will soon turn to a "wintry mix" turning to snow in the night. How festive! I hope everyone traveling has taken the storm into consideration. We will all be driving tomorrow, both KC kids coming and we're all meeting up at my dear sis's about 15 miles from my home. My youngest sis will come from Lawrence and fetch our Momma on her way.. Everyone enjoy your Christmas and I'll try to stop in for a quick hello during the next coupe days festivities... (the kids sleep later on Christmas morning these days) I was sifting through one of my boxes from work.. With Spring just around the corner... I HAD to share this..

I have a special grind of columbian coffee this morning.. and cinnamon rolls... The kids are starting to roll out of bed... I remember when Drew was about 3, I woke up around 4 a.m. (was awakened) he was about 3 inches from my face and when I opened my eyes I see these little eyes....he said "mom, can we open presents now?" They grow up so fast. Merry Christmas to all!

(Louise) Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas!

Seale, AL(Zone 8b)

Morning evrybody. Are ya all sleepign in catching up on all the restyamissed the past couple of days or are ya out doign the mad rush day after Christmas sales?

I gonna go outside and play for abit still damp outside but at least it warm. Hope evrybody had a good time with family and friends.: )

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

The sun is out, but a little chilly and very damp. Did check on my brug and all buds are still attached. Hoping I will see a flower by the first of the year.

You mean someone has money left over for sales? I do remember going shopping after the holidays and getting some good bargains for the next holiday that comes along, but that was so long ago and I'm not ready for the rush again.

I have some work to do yet on my divider before I can move things back where they should be. A little more stain, then varnish and a primer coat of paint on the sides. I sure don't feel like it, but no one else is going to do it for me. I'd like to get all these little jobs done so this spring I can concentrate on the yard. Have to go to Lowe's for some molding, and of course check out the plant department.

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

Hello all! Well, Christmas is done, and although it was a wonderful and happy time I am glad it's over. I already want the decorations down, I always do, LOL! No cooking today, I am resting! Hurray for leftovers.....No money for shopping today either, which is probably a blessing.

Well, my bubble wrap "Brug Bag" experiment did not work in 8a.......During the last week when the temps dropped to around 20 and remained that way for over a day I finally lost them, after all. They survived well until the temp dropped that low and long. All had bark wetness and slippage and just flat turn brittle and died, so I had to cut them down to the ground today. Oh well, it was worth the experiment to see if it would work. At least I know they will come back here in my zone. I'm still glad I can plant in the ground instead of pots.

I hope all of you had the most wonderful day ever my friends! Love you!

(Tammie) Odessa, TX(Zone 7b)

you gave up too soon! the wood part of the brug probably would have been fine if you had not cut it down! mine are still fine under the bubble wrap and we have been down to the low 20's and into the teens several times already! cutting them down before spring is just jumping the gun.. give them a chance! you will never know if it was a waste of time until the spring and see what comes back and wahat does not. Don't throw in the towel before the spring and nothing comes back!

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

Tammi, they were rotten, you could bend in half and they were mushy and brown. No way anything was coming back from that, just like rotten brug cuttings. Mine will come back here, they have good hearty roots. I would never have cut them back if there was any hope left in them, and believe me I looked them over good.

(Tammie) Odessa, TX(Zone 7b)

oh, sorry to hear that.. no old wood? mine have wood too.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Well, I would have cut them too, Karen.. LOL u guys are so lucky to leave them in the ground, I am afraid to go out and uncover my poor baby monster bottom I left in the ground out back, but last I looked, it was still green and thriving after several freezes so I think i will be surprised if my experient works with covering up with the brulap, moving pads and plastic and leaves on top and all around the ground..by the way.. look what bloomed for me over Christmas..

Hey Deb!!!!!! Omg, how beautiful is that?? Iochromas will be my new interest this spring I think. How was your Christmas? Are you feeling better with your ears or do you still have that ringing in them?

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Hi Karen, sorry took so long, I decided to rearrange again and lost track of time, yes Great Christmas, will send you a cutting of the Iochroa , and my ears are still riging! LOL Have to work in the am so see you all tommorrow love yas! HUGS!!!

Mornign everybody!!!!!!!!!!!! it's a great day so far to be up and about so rise and shine!!! Nice and balmy outside and if he sun peeks through the cloud stoday, might have to get the shorts and sunscreen out. Wish it would last for than today , but today better than no days.

Hope evreybody is still relaxign and enjoyign th eholidays and that ya have all gotten over yoru crud and illnesses.

Gonna have to cover my brugs back up soon with the cold comign again, but want to share a pic with ya. This is what ya all did to me with gettign the brug bug. Thes e are some that were gifted and some I went crazy on ebay getting that somebody had for sale that I could afford and some from the Market place.

So am I an offical brug nut yet? LOL I workign on it for sure. I still scare d that I may lose them, but so far have managed to get them to root and are keepign alive when I never have grown any before. Do ya think they will grow up enough to bloom next year or does it take two years? I wanna get blooms and make seed pods so bad. : )

Waitign on the gas man to come. Have a bunch of downed trees in the back and he wants them for firewood. Been waitign over a month for him to come get these trees cut and gone. He said he woudl be here early. Well I been up sicne five and stil waitign on him. Hope he comes soon cuz I need to go to corner store.

Hope everybody finds a smile in the day!

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

good morning lovies, it is sunny here but freezig.. I like ny new arrangement so far, now for organinzing the millions of seeds and seeing what I still need to send to people.. If I promised anyone seeds on this forum and have not sent PLEASE dmail me and remind me .. blueberry muffins and coffee and big green grapes.. yummy!

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Hi Ladies! Debra, look at you with those Iochroma blooms!! Just adorable. Congrats! I'm sorry to report I think I lost my cutting from you.. (I haven't given up on it yet... still in the denial stage:) But the cestrium has done well beside the French doors. I had a Christmas bloom on the Pete's Blue Hibiscus Louise gave me, such a nice surprise. Karen so sorry to hear about your outside brugs.. it's all a learning thing and we all find ways to grow them how we can. Thanks for reporting back to us about your experience. Debra I hope your experiment with the rootball works.. I may try putting one or two in the ground next spring, for rootball saving trials, not saving the top growth... (more cuttings to share that way, too;) I need to get busy around here, all the holiday festivities have presented yet more cleaning and organizing (housework) We've had 50 degree weather and then ice, now back to 50's.. :) I like the 50's. Star, I would agree you ARE an official brug nut (Congrats, too!) .. it's only just begun... :) Enjoy

Palestine, TX(Zone 8b)

Bonnie, I got a very nice surprise from you before Christmas and I am so appreciative, you don't know. It's like my little bible of brug care. You are so sweet to think of it.

The NOID white cutting you sent has a triple Y. Does the mother plant have the same? All my cuttings are turning into little trees and outgrowing the bedroom. What to do, what to do.

I have been sick since last Friday night with nasty stuff. Let's put it this way, everything I ate up to that point was coming back out the way it went in and what was left found it's way out.....well you get the idea. I have a lost weekend and didn't care at the time. Thank God He watches over me because my plants could have been bit real bad. It got down to 30° here last night. But they look fine.

I started a new thread on the brugs forum with a pic of my cherub. Go see! She is the one I asked about last Sept. She is what brought me to you all. You all have nursed me through her and I want to share her with you.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

AuntB, thank you so much for the Christmas brug letter. I have that saved in my journal, and refer to it quite often.
Happy New year everyone!. I will be missing for a few days, I have company coming in for the week-end.

Mornign everybody!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Got plenty of beef in the freze, so wanna know where is the Heat?????? Dang.. I back to shiverign and sweaters and ski hats and wonderign if my hands ever gonna be warm again.

How many weeks til spring? Can somebody turn the clocks forward fast a bit. Hate to go outside later today adn see what all got bit. Had so manythigns that had sprung up from the warmth and not they covered in frost and ice this morning.

Hope ya all had a good time these past days. Anybody got some plans for New Years Eve? My tradition is to always watch Rock around the clock. What make so mad evry year is I somehow always managaget o stay up til just a coupel of minute sbefore mid night and even with settign and alarm I always sleep through the ball fallign adn wake up a few minutes after. Maybe one of thes edays I wil get to see it again. : )

Look at all those brugs!! I lost a few of mine, but the others seem to be doing OK. Still waiting on buds to open. It looks like I won't be getting any flowers by New Years Day, but as long as I get some I'm a happy camper. We had some really nice warm weather yesterday, I hope they enjoyed the sun. Too warm for a sweat shirt, but this AM I'm so chilly again. Have to remember it is winter, just doesn't seem like the end of a year is here.

Hugs Pegi
