Wow, BJ, you really have some history in your family?

Lancaster, OH(Zone 6a)

BJ will check out the Cherokee Nation registry and see if I can find anything to tell Max about.. That would make him very happy...

I do the same with Movies all the time.. I have a habit of finding out I have seen the last half hour and not the beginning...lol

Lancaster, OH(Zone 6a)

Here you go BJ...

Stephen Hopkins (1707-1785)—Stephen Hopkins was the second oldest signer of the Declaration of Independence (next to Benjamin Franklin). He served on the committee that was responsible for the creation of the Articles of Confederation. He was forced to resign from the Congress in 1776 because of health problems, but was elected to the state legislature of Rhode Island upon his return.

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Yea, LK... now, I just wish I could remember half of it. I had an aunt once that researched all that and had a book published for the family. My Dad got that bound book, and for the life of me, I don't know what happened to it. Maybe my sister got it... I'm going to have to ask her about that.

I also know that some of my dad's ancestors were slave owners, and not very nice people... of course, there were some nice ones too... but the stories about the not so nice ones seemed to trickle down more than the good ones.

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Yep... that's the one... one of my dad's brothers was named Stephen, probably after that same one. I also named my oldest son Steven, after that uncle.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Sad how tha bad is always remembered before the good?
My hubbies grandparents were wealthy slave owners, and one of the cousins in the family has book about it with someof the original sales papers and such. He wants nothing to do with it. He thinks it is terrible how the slaves were treated!
LK

Lancaster, OH(Zone 6a)

Very neat to have history like that in your family..

My grandmothers maiden name as Sherman and e lived in the town he was from.. My Dads side of the family is well umm not so pretty from what I have been able to find but I did find that I have a great deal of Blackfoot indian in his side of heritage...

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

My grandmother on Mom's side was Bessie Mae (isn't it neat how many "Mae"s are showing up here? My dad's mom died when he was young so I don't know what her name was. Dad's dad was Stanley and my dad is Lloyd Stanley. Mom is Wanda Lucille. I'm Joyce Ellen even though I would rather have been Joyce Elaine. My grandma Bessie begged for the Ellen, so now I'm glad that's what it is.

Fun to hear all these names...

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Nicknames were big on my mom's side of the family...
Mom was Mildred Juandean... called Dean
She had 3 sisters, and 2 brothers. Mom was the oldest.
Jamison... was called Jimmy
Twins Margaret (called Peggy), and Marjorie (called Marge)
Robert... called Bobby
and Alice Mae was called Honey.

Dad's side was:
Iona Mae... called Nona.
Stephen Willard... Steve
William Joseph... Bill
Irene... no nickname, just Irene
and my dad was the youngest, Joseph Willard... called Joe.

Lancaster, OH(Zone 6a)

Nicknames are huge on my dads side of the family.. Especially wth all his siblings. He has 9 brothers and 3 sisters... Was hard choosing a name for my children because I didnt want to seem like I was picking a favorite... lol Even though I kinda did.. One of my favorite uncle's was Anthony (Tony ) so I named Tony (Antonio) The one and only in the family...

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

I named my oldest son Steven Wayne after my Uncle Steve on my dad's side, and my brother Gary Wayne.
Middle son I named Robert Michael after my Uncle Bobby on my mom's side, and my brother Terry Michael.
Youngest son I named Daniel Joe, just because I liked the name Daniel, and middle name after my dad... but my dad didn't want to pass down the name Joseph, and I didn't like the name Willard.

Wanted to share a little smile maker with you:

WHY GOD MADE MOMS

Answers given by 2nd grade school children to the following questions:

Why did God make mothers?
1. She's the only one who knows where the scotch tape is..

1. He used dirt, just like for the rest of us.
2. Magic plus super powers and a lot of stirring.

What ingredients are mothers made of ?
1. God makes mothers out of clouds and angel hair and everything nice in the world and one dab of mean..
2. They had to get their start from men's bones.. Then they mostly use string, I think.

What's the difference between moms & dads?
1. Moms work at work and work at home and dads just go to work at work.
2. Moms know how to talk to teachers without scaring them.
3. Dads are taller & stronger, but moms have all the real power 'cause that's who you got to ask if you want to sleep over at your friend's.

1. Mothers don't do spare time.
2. To hear her tell it, she pays bills all day long.

What would it take to make your mom perfect?
1. On the inside she's already perfect. Outside, I think some kind of plastic surgery.
2. Diet. You know, her hair. I'd diet, maybe blue.

If you could change one thing about your mom, what would it be?
1. She has this weird thing about me keeping my room clean I'd get rid of that.
2. I'd make my mom smarter. Then she would know it was my sister who did it and not me.
3. I would like for her to get rid of those invisible eyes on the back of her head.

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Really funny, Joyce... thanks for that.

Well, this beautiful day we're having just went south... yep, it's 72 degrees right now, but with 30 mph wind gusts, it's impossible to get anything done.

Morning ladies!
Sorry I'm late. Sis Kathy, I hope you feel better after lurking here :D We love you and go on and rant over here.
Thanks Joyce for the giggles!!
Hi Sheila! Yep, we need to see a pix of the quilt.
I love reading my sistahs' family histories. So interesting!! Even trace back to the original settlers!! Wow.. then we have a couple with native Indian ancestry. Judy is one too!

My father's name is Selamat Abu Amin. My mother's Baby Sa'odah Kesot. Both died very young.

Dad's Family:
Mother- Tuminah, a Javanese, whose mother fled the Dutch occupation in Indonesia and called Singapore home. Great grandma was of Javanese royalty. She died at the age of 103. She passed on the skills of a traditional herbalist to her daughter. Grandma died in the 80's.
Father- Abu, was Javanese, fled to Singapore but of the common man. During the Japanese occupation, he was shipped back to Indonesia interred in a Jap POW camp. None heard from him for 5 years. The family thought he died, so granma remarried, to a man, an Indonesian migrant. One day after the wedding ceremony, his real dad returned.
Well, he remarried to another lady, and they lived next door to each other till he died!
Our step grandfather don't have any kids nor family, and my sisters took care of him till he died. Step grandfather was 10 years older than granma

Mother's Family:
Father- Kesot Abu Amin. As far as I know, he's part Malay and Pakistani. Worked with the American Embassy in Singapore, and thanks to him for bringing back Christian Science Monitors and National Geographic, I love reading! He's also an accomplished musician. So was my mum.
Mother- Siti Aminah. An Egyptian business man and his wife, during one of their travels to China adopted 2 sisters. They went back to Egypt, but decided to call Singapore home. Granma was 11 years older than granpa. She taught me to sew :D

( Kim) Zion, IL(Zone 5a)

Kim, sounds like you have a very nice plan going on there, and to find the fabric at the goodwill is great find also! Make sure you post a picture with the finished products. What did you pay for the fabric?
LK

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

That will be neat to keep the drafts away. Can you make a snake head at one end?

( Kim) Zion, IL(Zone 5a)

I have no idea how long it is but 6 bucks Than I went to the dollar store and got this bowl plastic and if any one has seen the new Better homes and garden magizine they is a caft with a jello mold but For a dollar you put fresh fruit orange canberry lemons lime Branches and frezze it and put out side for the winter you have to put a bow on it I will have to put a plastic cup in the middle than soak in hot water after it frezes I show a pic when thats made
I just got all kinds of cheap and quick thigs to do

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Most definitely a great idea, Kim... you're a genius.

WOW, Jaye... now, talk about a rich family history... !!!

Well, I tried to cut some bottles with my new bottle cutter... but wasn't successful at all... broke all 6 beer bottles I've been saving... so, I went ahead and broke them up some more and put them in my tumbler to make sea glass out of them... hmmmm.... have no clue what I'm going to do with sea glass yet... but I'm sure something will come to me.

( Kim) Zion, IL(Zone 5a)

Jaye now you are getting carred away you're luck I got this creative its wraped in the cloth
I am not a good drawer but its close
1 big square of the cloth tham sew a stright on 1 side leave space than the other sode the middle is flat and that goes under the door so you have the round one on each side of door I hope that helps alittle

Thumbnail by Dimmer
(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

Hey BJ, did you happen to tape them on each side of where you are going to make the cut? Sometimes that works. I have a bottle cutter but it's a piece of junk. Was trying to save money.I ought to know better than that. It's better to pay the high $ for a good one.

( Kim) Zion, IL(Zone 5a)

Bj You can make a counter top the other day I was watching tv and saw the lates thing is floors and counter top with broken glass

( Kim) Zion, IL(Zone 5a)

Ok I did this fast cause its getting cold so here is a start and when it has frozen I will show this is just some of the furit I had in the house

Thumbnail by Dimmer
Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Kim, since it's round bottles, the pieces aren't flat to do a table top or a counter top... but I'm thinking on the lines of a mosaic wall hanging... remember the one I got at the flea market the other day?... on that lines.

Thumbnail by bjwilson
TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

That will be beautiful, BJ. Any design popped into your mind yet? Or will you attempt a cross?

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

Use could also inset them into stepping stones. You can use pie plates as your mold.

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

Shape them into colored butterflies. ^_^

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

I've been sort of looking online for inspirations... maybe not crosses... but I do like the butterfly idea... and maybe flower shapes... even square and round shapes with a 3 dimensional flower or something in the middle... don't know just yet... but something will hit me between the eyes one of these days.

( Kim) Zion, IL(Zone 5a)

Kathy( Jordankittyjoe)

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

You could always use them in a clear vase to hold up single stemmed silk flowers. Or live flowers as for that matter.

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Yep... that's a good idea, Deb... also thinking I can use them on picture frame glass, using liquid lead to draw out a pattern, then fill it with the tumbled glass... to make a sun catcher and hang them in the windows on the sun porch... what ya think?

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

If you were living next door, BJ, I would have given you an old window pane... I know you'd do something Maaaah-ve'los with it!

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

LOL... if we were living next door... that's not all we'd share, sistah Jaye.
Oh, my... just thinking of all the fun we'd have together in our yards, in our crafts, in our cooking...
Window panes would be an idea too... hmmmmmm... my head is spinning now.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

There goes the neighbourhood!!! All they'd hear would be peals of laughter!!!!! I'm tellin' ya.. we should save our change to buy our own island.. the Sweet Sistahs Island!! Crafters, bakers, sewers and Chickie mamas welcome!!

Hope Sis Kathy comes in soon and tell us what the doc says. I bet she's overworked!!!

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

I called Kathy this morning ... her appointment was at 2:00 this afternoon... she thought she had an ear infection... we all know how those can make us feel all sorts of bad, like dizzy, light headed, and very painful.

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

Ear aches are BAD!!! That is how I lost my hearing. Too many bad ear infections constantly. Plus bad tonsils, so when they removed my tonsils it ruptured my inner ear.
