Oh yah, that would throw off your equilibrium, for sure BJ. I can see Mike tip toeing around her!!
Poor you Cindy. I had my bouts of inner ear infections, think I lost some hearing in one ear.
Well, we're off to the store. Since I moved here, I've never had the wants to..to cook a grand Christmas dinner, cause it's always off to his family's. But this year, I want to do something special for Kel. I want to do a roast goose (no Marion, the fowl, not Kel) dinner. All because I'm reading your postings on how much fun you all had at Thanksgiving.
Catch you all sistahs later.
Afternoon sistah. Been running around--after being taken to lunch by my son--what a surprise and a treat!!! Even got to see my 2 granddaughters--oh my what fun! The oldest one has finally lost her first tooth and couldn't wait to show me. It is sort of bitter sweet for me--so happy she is excited about it but sad it means she is getting older!! Yes, I could keep them all babies a lot longer--heck, I would have done that even with my own 2 children.
I do hope they can do something to clear up this ear problem with Kathy. We need her back to her usual self--gun totin', depends wearing, ready to go Chicken Momma!! Kathy please check in and let us know how you are doing!
Jaye, did I miss something? I thought we were already saving our pennies for our very own island for us Sistahs. If we aren't then why do I have this jug I put my pennies in all the time. Leave it me to be the dumb one--LOL I already invisioned our dwelling place. One huge community area complete with lots of comfy chairs, hammocks, sofa and I guess some tables to set our drinks on, kitchen (state of the art for all the fantastic cooks
here), one very large dining table, 30 bathrooms--can't have anyone with an emergency and not open bathroom and then the bedrooms!! Halls juting off the central location with bedroom (large ones) in each wing. Sound okay? Now the grounds will be wonderful for sure--all the plants you can imagine!!!
Nope I didn't have Baileys for lunch. Just my vision of our island retreat.
Jaye!!! Not a goose, please!!!! I love geese--Canada geese at that. Sob, sob :-(
OH I am so happy I have to run out to wally world my sewing machinhas arrived
Be back soon
Dimmer

Y'all need to pray for me cuz I'm madder than a wet sittin hen. I know nurses have a hard profession and I admire anyone willing to go to school to learn this skill. But when the one I had a run in with today at the nursing home got under my skin I could have bit a nail into.
Aunt Lisa is under the care of this nursing rehab center in a terminal unit of 8 patients. Here's what got under my skin. Mainly the nurse with a stern and uncaring voice.
She was in the day room not facing the tv like everyone else. I turned her wheel chair around to face me and the tv. Lisa tryed to stand up and the charge nurse yelled at her with irration in her voice to sit down. Her voice from across the room was sharp and offensive to me and anyone else that had a mind to understand her. Why didn't she just come over to her and calmly ask Lisa to sit down and explain that she could fall if she tried to stand? So simple and humane to do. Don't you think?
Lisa has on these foam stockings with feces on the legs. That burned my buns big time. Her name was spelled wrong on those stockings to booth.
The nurse gave Lisa a shot in the arm. As she was taking the needle out, she accidentially flipped the whole thing between the chair and down Lisa's back. She had to lean Lisa over to retrieve the surenge. That did embaress the nurse and she said that has never happened before. Makes me wonder why she's in such a rush to give this medicine in the first place. Wonder if she was ready to go home? I don't know.
I asked her if Lisa had blood work done today. She in an athoriative voice told me that information can not be discussed with me. She said I'd have to be on the register list. She looked my name up and said I was third on the list so she couldn't give me any information. I told her the doctor and the complete nursing staff at the hospital tells me everything, all vitals, blood results, the whole nine yards. She's my blood for heaven's sake. She informed me with a hateful attitude that this facility was run by the state and we have rules. Yes I left. And Yes I told her she hasn't seen the last of me. I'm livid!~
You have every right to be livid, after witnessing your loved one to be treated that way. To me that is abuse!!
I don't care whether it be state run or private.. nurses and doctors are supposed to be professional caregivers, and that means acting professionally, not like a hawker in a ghetto!!!!!!!!
Deborah, I would be marching to the administrator's office and give them my opinion of what I had witnessed! Then I'd write down everything that happened and sent formal letters of complaints to the admin. and if that's state run, to the proper authorities and if it helps, to the mayor as well!
If that nurse can do that to your aunt in your presence, no telling what liberties she took when no visitors are around!!
Deborah,
She needs to be reported. Yelling at a resident like that is considered abuse. The feces on the stockings is uncalled for. She is not receiving the proper care. I worked as a CNA for 18 years and if I would have yelled at a resident like that I would have been fired on the spot. I took very good care of my people. The adminstators parents were residents where I worked and offered me a job to come live with them so they could go home. They lived in Florida close to Disney World. I would have had my own quaters plus a monthly income, car everything. They were very rich.
That's exactly what my husband said about what goes on when I'm not there. I'm going to be in that woman's face everyday. She'd better be on her p's and q's. Lisa's husband is asleep or I'd tell him tonight. I'll wait until tomorrow when I've calmed down some. I went to highschool with the administrator (cheerleader) so she and I can discuss this professionally and in a friendly manner. Or we had better anyway. This a repeat of this type of incident will not be tolerated by me. I spend several nights at the hospital with Lisa and never once had a problem with any of the nurses there. The whole staff was caring and professional. There where many on staff as compared to the few at the nursing home. There's just no sense in what I experienced a while ago and I'm still shaking and crying about it..
Thank God, Lisa has you!! No telling what's going through Lisa's mind right now. She certainly doesn't need this!!
(((((((((((((Deb)))))))))))))))
I know how difficult it is to be in that position. I became attached to too many of the residents and when it came time for them to pass on I took it very hard. Get a hold of the Ombusman (sp), they are there to help the families and residents with things like that.
Cindy, that just shows me how I can compare this nurse to caring professional ones. This lady would never be offered such a position. She shouldn't be a nurse if she doesn't have the compassion to go along with the job.
That is absolutely right. It can get really stressful, that is why a lot of families put their loved ones in these facilities. I will NOT put my mom in a home. I took care of my grandmother for about 6 months before she had a massive stroke and had to go to the hospital. Then I also took care of my ex-mother in law. She was fine just old but she played games. She would be fine all day long with me, but the minute my husband came home from work she turned into "Poor Me I can't do anything. I left him with her one day for 2 hours while I went shopping. It was to be my day off, but as soon as I got home he took off and went to the bar. He couldn't handle it. Then her granddaughter came for a week, so I could have some alone time. When she went home she said to her mother that she didn't see how I could do it. Well things started getting really bad. I got to where I was drinking in the mornings just so I could deal with her. I told my husband either she goes into a home or someone else in the family can take her. None of her other children wanted to be bothered so they put her in a home.
Ok Ladies..I have a TREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My Nephews and Neice came over to my apartment while I was at work and put it up and everything(even placed wrapped empty boxes under it.)
OBTW-Yes my sister and Mom have a key just in case of an emerceny..
Sorry if picture is bad..I took it with my phone(no camera for me yet)
Deborah... my g'mother was mistreated like that in a nursing home... mom raised all kinds of heck, everyday... demanded clean bedding, demanded a bath EVERYDAY... demanded proper care and hygene... at the very least...
They can't keep you from being there... and as long as what you're asking them to do is nothing more than "proper" care... they have to do it. Don't let them intimidate you.
Mom also made me promise not to put her in a nursing home because of what she went through with Big Mama. That's why I took care of her at home... and let me tell you... it wasn't easy... and she was in her right mind.
You have every right to be mad.... keep that "attitude" every day when you go there. Look your aunt over really good for any signs of things like bed sores, pressure spots... and cleanliness... bring EVERYTHING to their attention.
Blue.. pretty tree you have there. I have found that when you can't count on anyone else you always have your family AND your Sistahs!!!
Deborah, dear, I can't post here but since I have just talked with you--just know I love you and thinking of you!! Get a notebook.
Lisa, how happy that makes me to see you have a tree and a present under it. So glad you come to our sistah hood!!
Jaye, you just don't know how hard I prayed for there to be no goose!!! Brisket or stuffed pork loin sounds soooo much better. Pork loin stuffed with prunes? Yummmy!!!
Hello Tina from MB--glad you see you here tonight. I have a late start as I was also taken out to dinner by my son again tonight. Lunch and dinner--just for giving my opinion on what he is getting his wife for Christmas. Didn't know he valued my thougts so much--oh well for a free meal.
Marion good for you on the meals and especially time with your son. Hope your DIL gets some great gifts!!
Deborah, so sorry to hear of your problems with the nursing home! I would talk to an attourney.
marion, good for you on another free meal, and the chance to see your son and GK's.
Good night everyone.
Sleep tight.

BJ, Thank you mentioning for Deborah about the bed sores and such. I totally for about that part, but then I made darn sure my people did not get those.
Well, I know what want for christmas ^_^ a new monitor. Wal-Mart has the one I want a 19" Dell Flat for $219. I looked at others online and they are $300 and higher. But Rick and I are not doing presents for each other this year. Well I'm very sleepy so I'm going to call it a night...........NIGHT
Deborah, you must take notes and immediately notify supervisors... I am a big fan of going RIGHT to the top whenever possible. Feeces on stockings is not okay! None of what you have said about the way she is being treated is okay. Please follow your gut instinct, and don't let this go on a moment more, you are a blessing to your Aunt, and you are there for a reason. You rock, new sistah of mine!
Lisa, your tree is beautiful! Hooray! Okay, girls, as I've had some Merlot, I'll tell you a story. I've always loved Christmas, was a single parent to my son for most of his first 20 years. He and I hauled fresh trees in whatever apartment or condo we were living in every year, he (Phillip) always happy to help, even when he was just little! Having a child (or children) always makes Christmas an EVENT, and more so, an experience. When our kids our young, we have an obligation to make the holidays special for them, and in that giving of special... our experience is special. Then they grow up and move away and make a life of their own. Sometimes, they can't get home for the holidays. Sometimes, we're alone. Sometimes, we're not alone, but we're overwhelmed. Or underwhelmed. My second worst Christmas season (the first worst is fodder for another time) happened in 2002. This may seem trivial to many, but may also strike a familiar chord with others. My son was 21 at the time, in college, and not coming home for Christmas. I was working my butt off at a new job in a relatively new location, with a few friends, but mostly very young friendships with people that worked for me, which is a fine line. For the first time in my life, I wasn't getting a Christmas tree, I didn't feel like attending the parties that I was (in some cases) required to show up at. As much as I love men, and had plenty of opportunity for male company, I had fallen into a habit of dating the wrong men (as in, this will never work, inappropriate, but sometimes fun, men. No one I would get close to.)
So, me, the one who is the eternal optimist and has always loved Christmas... I was depressed and stressed. And for the first time in my life, I decided I was not bothering with a Christmas tree or decorations.
Well, one day, my annoyance at being depressed got the best of me, and athough I had always thought fake trees were blasphemy, I decided that at least I'd try, at least I'd go buy a cheap fake tree and try to motivate myself out of my doldrums. Target had the answer, in a $30 model. I dragged it home, put on some Christmas music, and pulled out all of my long loved ornaments. Guess what happened? Go on, guess!
Brenda
Deborah, I am so glad Lisa has you to stand up for her.....I have heard enough stories and spent enough time around care facilities that I don't trust any of them. The Sistahs have all given excellent advise....you both remain in my prayers daily. (((((((((((((hugs))))))))))))))))))
Lisa beautiful tree!!!!!! What a nice surprise!
DH's Birthday today......the Bike Club's big Christmas Party tonight......running non stop all day! I am so tired right now........think I may call it a night very soon...hope to just stay home and work on projects tomorrow.
Night everyone.....
What kind of bike club, Trisha?
Pedal type.....Dh manages a bicycle shop and we build custom bicycle frames.
Nice!
It's fun....
You are on SW Gardening ......has anyone heard anything from Aaron or his dad? Saw the picture he posted with Capt. Wil in it, and the story he wrote was fantastic........we have friends in Iraq and I can't help but worry when we go for extended periods without hearing anything.
We haven't heard much lately... we keep asking for an update from Sarge or his Dad... I trust they will get back to us soon. For those that haven't seen our SW gardening forum thread, some of our members have sent things for the soldiers to make a garden there. They've grown close to our hearts.
"E" and Heather lived in Colorado before moving back to Washington. He worked private security in Iraq before he joined the Military. He is in Baghdad now, and Heather is working in the Mid-west. She is Bicycle rider, but she and E are both motorcyclists also.......just before leaving Colorado she got stopped on their Ducatti (sp) doing in excess of 120mph....e was in Iraq, the bike was registered in his ex girlfriends name.....and Heather didn't get arrested (tells ya what she looks like doesn't it)!!!! She is really a sweet kid and could be a model any day! She got stopped up here on a seatbelt violation.....got a big ticket......my Dh said, hmm cop must have been a woman.....Heather turned very red......the cop was a woman!!
Good morning! Been up since 3:30am. Can't sleep any more.
Brenda, don't leave us hanging!!! What happened? You got in the Christmas spirit? You called all your friends and family and sang Christmas carols to them?
How's your ear Kathy? Better?
All the family name stories were interesting! Wish I knew more about mine. Hardly knew my father but knew my paternal grandparents. Their names were Bun and Ozell. Don't know anything about their backgrounds. That side of the family is sort of an unknown. My maternal grandparents were Curtis and Augustine (everyone call them Curt and Sug - pronounced 'shug' like sugar). They were both from a small town in Arkansas and knew each other's families. No royalty here. LOL! When we were kids, my brother and I were called Debbie and Big Boy. Many people never knew his real name - Lee. Once in a while I'll run into someone I knew from when I was a child and they will call me Debbie.
I have a very unusual middle name - have NEVER met anyone with this name. Have no idea where it came from - even my mother couldn't tell me. ??? I'll bet you a box of chocolates you can't guess my middle name. I'll give you one clue .... it starts with the letter 'J'.
morning, doc says i have a very bad ear infection and broncitis. she fussed at me for not using my nebulater (sp?)
was told to rest. didn't slee last nite cuz i forgot to get my sleeping pills refilled.
debra, is your middle name jo? i am a kathy jo
kim, yes you made me smile, and its good to see you back here with us. you ought to come to my christmas party. i have lots of room so you can stay a few days, or forever
Jasaqua??
Morning everyone. I have been trying for more than an hour to get in here, and it just would not load, I can get other web pages, just not Dave's???
Anyway, what is the rest of the Chrisymas story?
What is your middle name? Hmmmm maybe jackie, joanne, josephine?
Kathy, you gotta take your meds, you can;t get better if you don't take them.
LK
OOO-I forgot-Lisa-that is so cool!!!!
Deb-GET HER!!!! GIVE HER SOME OF THAT SOUTHERN FIRE!!!!
BJ-that is a sweet story-but I agree about fake trees for me at least are blasphemy!!LOL
