Thomas Jackson. Went by the name Jack, then after he opened his grocery store, he was know all over town as Jiffy Jack.

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

Bet your granma named her boys the same as family members to keep their memory alive. That was common back in the day.

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

My Granddaddy's name was Samuel Earl... went by Sam... we called him... yep, you got it... Little Granddaddy.

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

I have no idea... never met that grandma.... Daddy was raised in an orphanage.

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

lol

My mama's daddy was Theodor Marion Woodward. Folks called him Woody. He had a woody woodpecker tatoo from the Navy in WWII.

My daddy's daddy was named James C . Folks called him Jim. I can't remember his middle name. But of course will just as soon as I go to bed cuz it's already worrying the living daylights out of me.

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

Well your orphanage taught your dad some good things cuz he raised a mighty fine daughter in you BJ.

CORNILUS . I knew I'd remember.

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

All your family was named very distinguished southern names... southern aristocrats.

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

My daddy was my best friend... but he really didn't raise me... he was just there to let me sit on his lap... MOM raised me with a vengeance...

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

No, really... Daddy never disciplined me... never even raised his voice... was the best listener, and always had the "lighter" side of life to show us.

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

But po as a church mouse. Except my mama's side. the tracks seperated the very poor from the fair to midland. Daddy was from the other side of the tracks. Good up bringing but no shoes.

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

both of my parents were raised from depression parents so they knew how to make a dime go further.

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

well, I'm going to bed. Nite BJ.

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

My mom was 9 years old when the depression hit... Her dad lost his business and left home... Big Mama had to go to work, and my mom had to quit school to take care of the younger kids... mom learned real fast how to make a penny squeal... and that carried over to when she was raising her own family... even now, I catch myself rinsing out the bread wrapper because I think I might need to use it for something.

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Night, Deb... me too...

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

OK names: My grandma (mom's mom) was Florence Agnus, My grandpa ( mom's dad) was Melvin Russel. I never knew my dad's dad as he went missing on a fishing trip when my dad was 15. Had a step grandpa don't remember him he died when I was 3 or 4, but he was called Sarge. my dad's mom's name was Mae I think she died when I was 8. Didn't know her very well either.
My mom's name is Lueva Joy, my dad was George no middle name, but was nick named Goldie our last name is Goldbeck.
Me, Cynthia Gail, because my mom thought it was pretty. But she said I was an ugly baby looked like a monkey. My brother was a beautiful baby, and became the trouble maker in the family. I guess that's why he ended up in prison and will spend the rest of his life there.

How cool, Deborah and BJ have the same middle name.

Now I'm going to bed and by the time I get up you all will have been up for 4 or 5 hours.

Dolores, CO(Zone 5b)

Well, as you all go off to have visions of sugarplums dance in your heads... My mother's name is Violet, my Grandmother is Katherine. I also had a Grandpa Teddy (Theodore), he died when I was too young to remember, Katherine's husband... she never re-married, although the most eligible bachelor in town (the pharmacist!) had eyes for her. Her love was always with Teddy. My Dad is Ronald Lee Savage, I come from a long line of Savages! Sweet dreams, all...

Morning Girls,
Well off to work I go... Big surgery this morning and I have to do the anastisia(sp real bad) to make sure the baby comes off the table....
I will keep Aunt Lisa in my prayers... Shoot I use to be a bean pole at 93 pounds and never could gain weight but hit my 30's and I am now a much heavier lady...LOL but if I had to choose between my weight of 160 and 93 I like 160 better....
Dimmer thank you for calling Mike and sorry he was half asleep.. My son Mike is up near Kim doing the power plant work... He does not know what cold it yet.... He was brought to the south at a young age so he does not remeber what big snows are... I guess he will after this next two weeks...LOLOL
Ok ladies I have to run all have fun and will see you all after work... Oh when I say I get beat up... Some of the dogs don't like staying on a table so if they jump I catch or some just act like a riding buck so those days I come home dead...LOL
Oh also about your lab... Have fun most don't calm down until at least 4 years of age and watch out for the chewing or he could get a blockage..... Give him 2 liter soda bottles filled with treats to play with outside and that may help... Or in the cold freeze them with water and give to him.... May help... I had to hang a rope from a tree with a big old knot on the end and my dog use to swing from it....
Ok bye and love ya's
Hugs,
Susan

Morning all, chatty you were yesterday. We cleaned house yesterday. Moved birds around. I have a wall that use to be the small bedroom and we took the wall out to enlarge the living room, well on that one wall is where Punk Boy is allowed to do his art work and we take a measuring of him each month. Well I do not want to paint over it, call me silly, but that is where we are going to put the tree. So I decided to get some fabric and make a curtain to hang behind the tree. Will work on that today.

Man!!! I should have stayed in bed. My montior went kapoot. I use Rick old dinasor. It's awful. The monitor is huge and the words are small and it doesn't fit on my desk ugh!! It acted up yesterday. I'm going to call Dell see if it's covered under the warranty. Crud. Probably won't be on much as this monster is hard on my eyes. You know how when you get close to a round object and your face looks funny? Well that's how things look on this monitor

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

That's a beautiful rose LK. I love roses they smell so pretty. I have an Abe Lincoln and an Angel Face, they are both at my mom's. I need to get them down here. They need some TLC

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Morning ladies... isn't it fun to read about everyone's ancestors?
I don't think I talked about my mom up there last night. She actually had an interesting name. Mildred Juandean. My great great grandmother was full blood Choctaw, and my mom was named after her. She was called "Dean" her whole life.

Now, another day... another conversation.
Don was up early this morning and already out putting up those Christmas Decorations. But right now, I have him moving a wall heater bracket, and changing out a electric outlet on the sun porch so I can get a shelf out of the middle of the floor. It's only 65 degrees outside this morning... great day to get something done.

Lancaster, OH(Zone 6a)

Hi all

Looks like once again I have catching up to do.... I decided Im going to try the glaze on Tonys room and see what happens in a small area then if still no good I wll primer it and start fresh. My sister said shethinks she has a 5 galoncan of primer at the barbershop so that would be nice if she did... Tony reallyhas his heart st on seting his room up with tan walls and ocean/marine accents and comforter told him I would try my best ... I may be forced to paint fish on the wall...

Names in the family.. mine are different from all the ones above... I knew our family was weird... my moms name is Valinda Lea but we call her Lindy or Memaw, My dad is Donald Richard call him Don or Papaw.. My moms mother is Lola her dad was Marshal Please excuse the loss of middle names.. MY dads side of the family -- his mom is Ruth and dad was Robert (Bob).. They had 13 children so aunts and uncles a plenty in ohio... Always wanted to do geneoogy on my dads family but havent been able to trace much.. My moms side goes missing with my grandmas mom and her dads name is unfound..

Donna good luck on your bathroom.. Ours is still unfinished but opefully soon we can get back to work on it.. It absolutely drives my mom crazy thats its half done..

Lancaster, OH(Zone 6a)

also anyne know where you can find info on Cherokee Tribes? Max is 4th generation and all we can find is his great -great grandmothers name-- no last name but its cherokee and we have no way finding any other information..

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

My grandmother is a part of the Sacketts. I'm sure you've read books about them and seen movies?

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

Oh my mom is going to be soooooooooo upset. I had put a bid on a sieve on ebay. The starting bid was $4.99, it is now up to $31. Well I guess I will have to look some place else. Why couldn't it have been a buy now instead of bidding.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Wish I could help you there. My Grandfather is supposed to be cherokee, but no one has ever done the research, so I don't even know where to start.
LK

Lancaster, OH(Zone 6a)

Max has tried to do some research but there just isnt alot f information available without paying for subscription fees

Cindy the Sacketts uh... I have heard of them..

My grandmother is a direct descendant of general sherman... Just dont mention that in this town...lol

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Donna, I think there's a Cherokee Nation registry in either Oklahoma or Arkansas... can't remember... you might want to google that and see what you come up with.

Cindy... I didn't read the books, but I might have seen the movie. Have you ever started watching a movie that you don't think you've seen, then realize about 5 mins into it that you have seen it? I do it all the time.
Too bad about that sieve... I know you had your heart set on it for your mom.

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

My mom was a direct decedent of James Whitcomb Riley, the poet. Her maiden name was Riley... yep, what a combo that was... Irish and Indian... LOL.
One of my dad's ancestors signed the declaration of Independence. "something" Hopkins... I used to know all that stuff on the top of my head... guess I'm getting old.
