Show us your lights

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Love the card, JoAnn!!

Dahlia - I hope you are recovering from the dropsy! Please do let us know when we can celebrate with you! I will make it a point to dance in my sunshiny garden that day just for you!

I was practising my Reservoir Dance today (similar to a River Dance but modified because I live near the reservoir). Red satin pjs and duck boots is the tradiontal attire for this dance. See?

After dance rehearsal, I made my first entry in my new journal "Dahlianut's Mostly Bird Journal with Some Bee Thoughts" which is totally OT but I wanted to show the fairys on the cover ^_^

No red here, but I've got pink. Would that do? I live near a bay, so it would be bay dancing.
Those fairies are cute.

Thanks Marilyn.Have you seen I volunteered you to illustrate the childrens book based on Sophie.
Beautiful picture of her looking at the tree. Daliahnut can write it.
I started the first sentence.

WOWSER look at the size of the rosemary. I bet it smells better than the tree ^_^ Pretty outside display. Funny how the camera makes it look like its snowing snowballs.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

it was snowing snow balls!

not really - i think that is due to how close they are too the lens - does look kinda cool.

and yes the rosemary does smell pretty good. my wife cooks a lot of whole chickens in the winter stuffed with rosemary. it will not be so large when it goes back outside and is planted back in the ground.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

I need to try bringing rosemary inside for the winter but I have no sunny windows. Too many big trees. mmm chicken and rosemary mmmm salmon with rosemary and pinot noir sauce mmmm sicilian stuffed mushrooms with rosemary mmmmm. oops I just drooled on the my keyboard ewww.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

all sounds good to me!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

Very nice tree and rosemary, Bill. Beautiful card, Allison. Merry Christmas all!

Forgot to comment on Solstice. It's just not the same to me now like it used to be. It's so commercialized now. Those darn Solstice sales now start before we've even had Equinox! And what with global warming and all, who looks at the sun in the same way anyway?

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Great pictures of lights and decorations, everyone! I will post some as well.

Herbie, I guess we aren't the only ones who have converted our dining room into a living room. My parents converted the living room into their bedroom a long time ago when my mother was still alive, and it's still my Dad's bedroom. Would love to convert the living room and dining room into one big room together someday. Herbie, your friend at work isn't the only one who makes those glass blocks with the lights. I have seen them around here as well.

Allison, congrats on winning third place in your neighborhood's light contest this year. Woo hoo!

As to what you guys were talking about some neighborhoods regulating on what you can do to decorate, I would not want to live in a place like that, either. I wouldn't like someone telling me what kind of lights I can put up. I personally like a lot of colored lights. They seem much more festive to me.

Love that card, Allison! How did you make that? Where did you get that cool lettering?

Dahlia, I will help celebrate with you! I decided I would do a rehearsal for pond dancing here, as I live near a big pond, which is more like a lake. It's called Monponset Pond. Pond dancing requires sneakers and jeans.

LOL! Victor, you got a point there.....

Here are some pics that my visiting sister from Alaska took of our lights that my youngest sister put up. These were taken last Friday. I posted them on another thread, but in case anyone here missed them, I'm posting here.

Cousin nut you have done an OUTSTANDING job. I know some don't like the plump white stuff but boy it sure looks pretty. Is that a super duper squirrel deterent bird feeder in the first pic? How fabby re: the dancing! There will be simultaneous ocean, lake, pond, river and reservoir happin all over NA. It's amazing how many have officially deferred solstice this year ^_^ So true Victor so true sigh. This year they were evening charging the kidlings to sit on the Druids knees here. It's very sad.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Very pretty, Karen. Nut - the problem with the druids is that they appear and disappear so easily and often. Hard to get a good shot.

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Dahlianut, yes, that's a super duper squirrel deterrent suet feeder. Really does work, too. I've had it for years, and they just can't destroy it. My seed feeder is squirrel proof, too. Got tired of spending all my money to feed the squirrels.

Karen

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I have a squirrel feeder that I adapted so that it only feeds the birds. What goes around...

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Victor I think it is impossible to photograph a Druid. They can be invisible at whim for sure. I like to believe we have ancient secret enclaves of Druids high in the mountains. I hear them rustling around when I'm scoping rocks high up (or maybe those are mountain lions :O)

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

I am experimenting with my new squirrel deterent powder in my open feeder. Although I think Damien the Spawn of Satan is hibernating because he hasn't been haunting us since the severe cold snap started. Actually I think the birds are hibernating too now. My first entry in my new "Mostly Birds with Some Bee Thoughts" journal reads: No birds today. Perhaps they all perished in the ^&(^*&(%&^ cold.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

O sorry (blush) That wasn't very Christmasy or nice for Christmas eve. (but it's what I actually wrote sigh).

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Speaking of Druids, Dahlianut, have you ever read the Shannara books? The Sword of Shannara, etc.

Karen
