Best/Worse &What did I learnt today/Chat with Friends Pt72

Janice..Ohio border isn't far for you to drive is it? Isn't Stacey just on the border of it? Is it a family tradition to get together and make cookies for the holidays..if so, what fun you must have...

When all the snowing was done, we probably got maybe another few inches, soft and fluffy so that's not bad..

Like everything else girls, when you live in the north you have to adjust your driving and it becomes no different (well not quite) than driving in the summer...

Crissy you'll have to focus on decorating at home then..someone asked me recently why I go to such extremes inside and outside when I live on my own...shucks, I'm important aren't I???? I love the look of it...now Carol Crissy, she's a step smarter than I..in her basement she leaves it year round....how wonderful...saves on work..

The best visit here Jesse...just had a few calls and wouldn't you know, my pad and pen downstairs here next to computer so am visiting for a few secs...

It's the little things Jesse you do for yourself and others that bring much joy..not what you have...I could be without $5.00 and would still create and beautify..much one can do..and yes I've been there so do know what it is like..

You will start feeling better Jesse once the Christmas season had gone..all feel a tremendous loss at this time of year...but life is short, wasting it is really no option..

Fostoria, OH(Zone 5a)

Yes, Betty, cookie tradition started with my Mother and Grandmother. GM was an early single parent and used her cooking and baking skills to help support her twins. She and my Mom would make cookies, about 30 different kinds, every year and give them as gifts to family and friends. My uncle was single but had a large group of friends. On Christmas Day he and I would travel to each family to drop off the cookies they had baked, have a cup of cheer and see everyone's tree and decorations. I loved that part of Christmas and miss the tradition.
Only my DD bakes and we have never lived close enough to carry on the cookie tradition. About 10 yrs. ago I made a cookbook with all of my grandmothers' recipes and gave it to DD & DIL's. Then I found out that Stacey (my DIL Fairy) bakes each year and gives to friends and people she works with. When they moved back to Michigan two years ago I couldn't wait to ask her to join me in baking cookies. My Ohio DIL asked to be included and the three of us baked for 3 days last year. We had a ball and quickly decided that this was a tradition we wanted to carry on. So this year we travel to Ohio to bake since she has 2 ovens!
We each pick 4 recipes, send them to Stacey and she organizes the shopping lists (you know what a great organizer she is). Each of us buys a portion of what is needed and brings the groceries and cooking utensils, etc., the day we bake. That way we each go home with 12 different kinds of cookies as well as gumdrops.
At the end of three days we are tired, happy, high on a sugar fix and ready to do it again next year!

How absolutely fantastic..wish I had daughters..just not the same with guys...not into tradition or at least they haven't shown any signs of it..not even grandaughters..oh well..I'll keep plugging in keeping tradition alive..

Stacey is an organizer so am sure all will be organized for your arrival..how many hours drive?

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Just a quick check in this morning.....the electric to our neighborhood has been shut off for some construction work until ten or eleven........Betty am so glad you told us about the radion station on the computer.......I can keep the Christmas music going as long as my battery holds out.......hopefully will last the short amount of time I can be on this morning.....MIL will be here soon, we go to Curves on Mon. Wed., and Friday.........as soon as I return Laura and I must drive up to Tacoma to the Leather shop to pick up some much needed supplies and a few gifts as well......

Will have to see if I can Laura and Sage interested in Christmas Baking.....I think it would be fun.....I know Sage would Love it!!

Betty, Have you posted the Meat Pie Recipe?????

To all I have missed Hello/Good Day......must run and take the dog out before I have to leave......can't leave her to be miserable while I am out.....talk later....

Victoria Harbour, ON

Trisha, will post..marking down my grocery list to accommodate, meat pies/stuffed peppers and cabbage rolls is a must..tomorrow night I'll be shopping for them..

Just took a leave of absence for 1/2 hr. wouldn't you know there were 5 work messages..oh well, blame it on Ruby, did need eggs and applesauce..lol..then had a great surprise..letter for Canada Pension..I had written to see how much my early Canada Pension would be (we can get it when you turn 60) but, they take into consideration that I also get death benefits for Roger..and I was retired for 10 years so didn't pay into it...I was pleasantly excited to see that their quote was an additional $504.36 a month..it was a quote, wasn't sure if I'd wait till I'm 65 but will contact them and say yep, send me out a monthly cheque..figure it will keep me in new cars for the rest of my days...lol..

Best be off..Kyle will be here shortly and I've mega things to do..it's painting night here..have to decide if I want to do next week or not..so just incase we decide no, I have their gifts ready and want to bake the cakes for snacks...

Off running

Victoria Harbour, ON

Kyle was just here for lunch..makes me proud to be his grandma..was telling me he had to go to the store before going back to school and use his interact..his classroom picked a family name off a tree in the mall done by Salvation Army..they have a list of what the kids want for Christmas and all are donating at least $10.00 and they will go one aft. and pick up gifts...he also said there was another family where the father just got layed off..someone he knows, so said he'll go buy a couple of gifts..for him that's something..he saves every penny and rarely spends...

Wonder why he comes to grandma's for lunch..lol..I don't cook but the restaurant next door does

Anyone any ideas..followed the recipe..but read 'flour' lightly..missed the spot that said 'gread & flour lightly' of how to get them out of the cake pan without ruining them..they'll be stuck right? there must be a trick for those who forget...do you know how?

Betty those are nice glass pans, if you flouered it they may not be stuck. I haven't read the recipe, so why do you need to take them out of the pans? Just cut them and hand a piece over to me LOL!! They look very, very delicious.

Victoria Harbour, ON

lol, already did that, yummy..but wanted to freeze the other..waiting until it's completely cold then I'll try..
Working on the fur on santa's jacket..wouldn't you know I ran out for about 1 1/2 ft. so will have to wait to fully finish him..going to town tomorrow after work so will pick more up..just means I can't put sewing machine away...

Wow, is it getting cold out there, just turned up the heat..

Was almost tempted to have a nap until the girls get here but that would finish me up..so will push myself just a little more...really have to clean a few tables off for them..not but 10 minutes work..no sense cleaning completely as I've sewn a bit on Mrs. Claus and need the machine out tomorrow...

Hello everyone,

I have a very serious situation that has just come up that I will share with you. My very front tooth on the top got a crack in it a few months ago. Well that was all it was, just a crack from the top to the bottom. And then a little bit of it broke off but the top part of it was still attached. Well a few minutes ago, the whole right side of it broke off and the piece is just sitting there although it moves around a lot. And when it flips backwards, I can't bite down at all because my top teeth hit it. So now I can't eat or do anything. And when it broke, it sort of curved inward. So I don't know if when that piece finally falls out if the nerve will be exposed or not. If so, that requires an immediate root canal. Well that is a very costly procedure and there is no way in the world that I can afford something like that. And medicaid does not pay for any dental work here in Texas. So I do not know what in the world I am going to do. I have been researching dental insurance for the last couple of hours and I found a plan where I can get it done for half price. I could be lucky and not need a root canal and only need a crown. In that case it will only be $500 which is half price because of the insurance plan. If I have to have a root canal, that is another $500, which is half price too. But as you can probably guess, I do not have that kind of money. So if you can, please pray for me in this situation. I honestly don't know what to do about this. What I need is a miracle since I do not have it in my power to fix this. The front tooth beside it got broken off when I was little and had a root canal and has a crown. And now I need the one beside it done which really freaks me out because I freak out over going to the dentist. What would really be a miracle is if the nerve is not exposed and all I need is a crown. That would be wonderful news. Then all I have to do is to try to save up for the crown. So please pray that the nerve is not exposed so that I do not have to have a root canal. And pray that the Lord will work a miracle because since this is the top front tooth, I can't just lose it. I have lost so many teeth already and it is already hard to eat. And this would make it really tough. So what I need here is a miracle. Thanks for praying for me for this because this is a situation that I cannot fix.

~Hugs~
Jesse

Dallas, TX(Zone 8a)

Just an update on the tooth. The piece that was sort of hanging on just came out so now I have this large hole in my top front tooth and I'm so worried about it. I need to get into see a dentist as soon as possible and hopefully he can do something to it that will cover it until I can come up with the money to do something to fix it. This is really freaking me out big time. I have this big fear of anything that has to do with my teeth. So I'm having big time anxiety and panic attacks. So please pray for a miracle for me to get a way to do something for this tooth.

Jesse, for your tooth, there are teaching clinics that can work on you for next to nothing. My neighbor took both her boys to one adn they did a pretty good (and inexpensive) job.

Here are a few places to check out in and around Plano/Dallas:

Jessie,

Do you have a University near you that also has a Dental School?

It is a lot cheaper to go to a Dental School and have any dental work done. All the dental students are seriously supervised by real Dentists and it is a lot cheaper.
Please look into it!

Jesse deep breaths....when I was only in my late teens my teeth due to health problems with my kidneys would break off same..costly for major repair so had them all out...think it was the best thing I did..no more dentists, major dental bills and there is nothing that anyone else can eat that I can't..in all those years I've only replaced 1 st.....sorry to hear about your difficulties Jesse...maybe you should consider having same done..are all your teeth in need of work? Will add you to my prayers list...

Ruby, girls all loved your cake...couldn't believe I made them..they think with staying home this week I'm turning into a Mrs. Susie homemaker...

I understand there is a major storm brewing..walked the girls out to take photo of light and it was starting to rain, am sure as it gets colder we'll have freezing rain than snow...omg I'm so lucky that if I get up in the morning I'm able to turn, get cozy an drift back to sleep without travelling concerns on my mind...

Was going to call tonight the last painting night but they want to come next Wednesday so one more week..

They were all doing their thing so I cut out with exacto knife around heavy canvas that I painted holly on so that I can use them as my place settings...girls couldn't understand why they couldn't make them for their tables...hello..only one night left..lol..

But I've a pattern to do same for spring so all agreed after Christmas when we start up again it will be the first project we'll tackle together...

Santa's suit is ready, just need to make his belt...then on to the Mrs.

It's late, I've had a busy day, so off to bed I go..

MORNING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pacifica, CA

morning all,

jesse hope you can find a dentist soon, dental schools are reasonable
maby there is one close by to you, but i was curious is this a hole or has the tooth compleatly broke off?
reason i ask , is if it is a hole i have had some issues as such and found a product called tempanol all it is, is a temporary filling material till you can get to a dentist.
sending you hugs and prayers..

judy hope your feeling better, sending you hugs to hope you have a good day.

betty, the decor is wonderful as always

hi ruby how are you doing?
your all enjoying snow and we still have sun

hello to everyone else got to get running to work
have a wonderful day

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

We are getting SNOWWWWWW-just kind of flurries, but it comes in heavier waves....

Victoria Harbour, ON

Couldn't get on the system this morning..having withdrawal..lol..

Several calls came in around 7am , not their fault as they thought they'd get recording system..but I was up playing as usual..

Stacey, we're starting to have a blizzard here..Suzanne had to go with clients to court this morning so she's in the city all day..feel bad that she has to be the only one travelling..but I'm working on her projects..being a nice person..lol..

Last night Rita wanted another victorian santa kit so this morning I cut one out for her and ended up cutting 3 more just in case..I'm gathering all of the pieces and then will start to put at least the body on Suzanne's 11 that are left...

I want to go to town tonight to pick up what I need for the 'tortierres' but won't if it's as stormy as they say it will be..girlfriend Aline just called and she's going to town so at least she'll pick up the pork for me..always use 1/2 beef/1/2 pork..

She said when she was in USA last year after Christmas she picked up mega ribbon..has no use so dropping it off to me..no wonder my craft room is overfilled...

Carol, decided I did not want to play with the electric snowblower..would have to climb banks of snow to plug it in, clean the cord when done just tooo much work..so Darlene was telling me they have a small gas one at Canadian Tire for $499.99 so she called Mike her hubby and he'll try tonight or tomorrow to go have a look at to see if I'm only using it for my walkway if it would do...hope so..if it is he'll pick it up and drop it off for me..such nice people..only 10 years younger than I but sometimes I think they've adopted me either as a 2nd mom or an older aunt.

So back I go, finish fathering, tidy up and still a full day ahead of me...

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

Betty-next year for the workshop can we do gingerbread people, reindeer, snowmen or penguins????? Pretty please-I will send cookies if you say yes;)LOL

Newcastle, ON(Zone 5a)

Betty..lovely job on the Santa outfit and the silverware holder.

Just finished installing the used fireplace doors I bought for $40.00. The glass on one side of my old ones shattered..and the glass to replace it would be over $75.00. So the lady at "Some Like it Hot" ( name of the fireplace store..cute) suggested these used ones she had. Plus they are prettier than my old ones. I only use the fireplace a few times in the winter as it is downstairs in the basement Christmas room.

Oh Jesse..I sure hope you can find a solution to your broken tooth.

My plumber put in the new water pressurized tank and also fixed my kitchen taps. So nice to have a fella to call and get things fixed easily.

Well..Time to get ready for swimming..

Have a good day all.

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

LOL We would all have a gingerbread party!

I got my mixer last night Happy Happy Happy Days! ^_^

Glenview, IL

WELL....
Today, is the first day of the rest of my life!

It is official. Our entire group is retired.

I am ok, really.

Woohoo, I am on an extended vacation with pay, LOL.

Will be back later, have a final meeting....

Betty, thanks for talking with me last night. whew, finally this chapter is over as soon as I sign the final documents!!!

Fostoria, OH(Zone 5a)

Jesse, the bad news may be that the dental insurance will not cover anything major for 1 yr after you pay premiums. I just got insurance this summer and had to have a tooth pulled. Now I need a bridge ($4000) and the insurance will cover neither. The tooth was pulled before the 1 yr. and they wont pay for the bridge because the tooth was pulled before (see how they get you?). Check the insurance you are looking at to see if it has these conditions, too.
Good Luck!

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

That sounds like Aflac, but they probably all do the same thing.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Can't seem to warm up, sat gathering while watching news coverage of possible political take-ove and could feel myself dozing off...

Suzanne just called, she was talking to Paul, he's trying to have Bell Canada telephone system re-transfer the call to Barrie office..all ready for workers, which would mean my first workday in Barrie would be tomorrow..he hasn't called yet but imagine he will this aft. I'm ok with it, was just going to do my meat pies..they'll have to wait until Sat.

Judy, you must have so many different thoughts going through your mind..once relieved it's finally over but at the same time still wanting to work with mixed feelings of being a lady of leisure...sorry 'sweetie'...now when will your last work day be..surely not 'today'??? you could have an extended holiday in Florida..wouldn't that be superb...
Know you are hurting...prayers for you along with soft hugs...

Carol, fireplace screen sounds lovely...some like it hot..great name for the company..just thinking of turning the one downstairs on..temps are really dropping..I'm chilled...have fun swimming...

Noah will be arriving shortly for lunch..Melanie called to say he had a bad headache, for me to talk with him and if I see it is bad then have him stay with me this afternoon...

Crissy, your mixer, is that an early Christmas gift...??

Fairy..I'll be looking for patterns for you...might just have to be one of them...lol

Janice, any snow up your way?

Best go upstairs and get things organized for lunch..

Cross your fingers I'll still be home tomorrow

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

That would be AWESOME!!!!! Cute ones too please-fatter the better;)LOL I love me a chunky little Xmas guy!!LOL

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

LOL the mixer is a late birthday present, exactly a month late, to the day! The Wii is an early Christmas present to both of us, then he's getting his pots and pans, and I better get something cool LOL!

Betty, on a Friday?? I'm crossing my fingers big time for you!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Haven't heard from him as yet...doesn't mean the call won't come in this evening..not tragic though, I was thinking tomorrow afternoon after work to go to Barrie to pick up a few things I need..this way I'd already be in town..the 4 days were wonderful...can't be greedy..

I'm hoping the grandchildren in both households will like the Wii I got them as much as what appears the adults enjoy playing...lol

Fostoria, OH(Zone 5a)

Yep, snow here. Not much on the ground but it just keeps flurrying and flurrying. Clean, clean, clean that windshield and sweep the walk. Hope we don't have anything much tomorrow as that is my drive to Ohio for baking. I hate to drive in snow! The sooner I more closer to the kids the better!

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

I'd rather drive in snow than in ice.

Well Betty, at least you have a reason to go into the office tomorrow, I'd be greedy lol more more more! I want more! lol

Victoria Harbour, ON

Unless he call me later tonight looks like I might enjoy one more day at home..

Aline managed to get me my pork so if I don't go in first thing in the morning I'll drive to Midland, grocery store open 24/7 and get what I need for the pies and get them done..

Janice, are you looking for somewhere to move to or are you just now thinking about it? You could move closer to Frankenmuth..lol...

Don't know how I managed to fill the day and not end up seeing much done...guess it was all morning cutting/sewing/gathering those santa outfits..then I've had several friends drop in..it's wonderful so don't accomplish much but the gabbing is worth it..

Waiting tosee if Darlene's hubby Mike got to go to Canadian tire and if the gas snowblower (mini one-easy for me to handle) is worth buying..think he gets off at 4:30 so if he doesn't work late and it's worth the value then most likely he'll not get here until 5:30 or so..

Glenview, IL

Good Afternoon!

Jesse, I sure hope you get your tooth fixed quickly.
Janice and Tracy...enjoy your cookie making. What a fun thing to do together every year!
Have a safe trip to Ohio, will hope for no snow for the ride.

Carol, Glad everything worked out...Fireplace sounds very pretty.
Now do you decorate the rest of the house too?
Hope your swim was good...Thinking to join the Park district for a bit of excercise. The have a wonderful track, for walking and running.
Also a beautiful pool too. LOL, I will need some kind of activity and interaction with people or I'll go bonkers.

Betty, Yep it was my last day today. Officially Dec. 11, but I don't have to do anything so We all went out to a very long lunch and i left from there. LOL. Monday, I am going in with my signed papers and to grab all the photo's from my computer. Thats pretty much it. Oh and say goodbye to some friends. Got a huge hug from MR. Ed our Security man. He was so sweet, told me to keep on smiling! heheh, no problem there. It was funny because the ride in was kind of surreal. I had already been "informed" the first thing this morning via a Txt msge. Was no supprise and I am most releived. The company has been very good to me over the years, my children born and raised good insurance etc,etc...So The weird thing is not going there...
I know i am rambling but, wow...Manager Thanked me for my dedication and hard work. Supervisor said it was a pure pleasure to work with me. Made me feel real good. ..And i must admit that I am Proud of myself! I really loved my job, but also it has been a long time since i have actually Worked...I am walking away on good terms and i think that is really important.

OK sorry...
So Have been home since 3:00 Picked up Breenie from school...
I am working on My Secret Santa gift. I am making an apron for my secret buddy. We were going to have a pot luck tomorrow but decided next week would be better...woohoo bought me some more time to work on it. I was going to make Chilli too...
My sectret Santa has been wonderful!! I have received a pair of gardening gloves, a automatic watering drip. It's really cool, I have never heard of water gel. Suppose to last up to 2 weeks!! a small craft scissors and todays suprise a GOOD pair of fabric sheers! Right on time too...My Buddy, i gave cooking items. She like to cook so i thought it was appropriate, to stay with the Chef theme. A friend of hers came and told me she really wanted an apron, so i am glad she will be happy. I am making her 2, a half one and a full.

So that will be my project for tomorrow.
Well i have got to run to the store so will be back later.

Oh Thanks Liz, For calling and well wishes. This cold is getting better.

See you in a bit.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Judy, you were so right when you posted this morning and said, "first day of the rest of your life" ...perhaps after you've had time to regenerate you can look for something close to home, that brings in an income but more important in a field that you've always wanted to follow..you are great with people..no fretting something will come up I'm just sure of it..you sound in good spirits...time to unwind and think of Judy for a change...

I've had good news and bad news..got a call from Darlene said yep, got the snowblower but it needs to be serviced so he took it home, will do it tomorrow and deliver it over the weekend..

Then Paul called, yep going into Barrie tomorrow..got 4 enjoyable days out of it..maybe Sat./Sun. I'll just keep on treking as have I been all week..

OMG every set of tables in my craft room are project disaster areas..not bothering to clean..

This is what Aline brought me today

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
Victoria Harbour, ON

Some of the ribbon Aline brought is quite pretty but I've already purchased the ribbon for the block I had to do..gave mega blocks away last year...only 3 left..will do them up, am sure I'll find someone to give them to..know if I store them 1 more year they'll get broken..

This is another table that needs to be cleared..

Not only table cleared but hanging on the wall next to the paints is a Mrs. Claus in the making...yuk..

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
Victoria Harbour, ON

Suzanne managed to do 3 of her 14 victorian santas..so this aft. got 3 more in their garb to help her out..8 more to go...

Then sitting on the shelf in the back room were 2 pieces of primitive parts to a hot chocolate set..the shelf is attached to a half moon and set on the shelf are 2 jars for hotchocolate and the other for mini marshmallows..so will trave the backs, get them cut and 2 more 'pretties' to get rid of..I'll find someone with little kids, they'd get a kick out of them...
