Best/Worse &What did I learnt today/Chat with Friends Pt72
I'm here:)
What are you working on today Stacey?
Hello to All - Okay Betty, if you go out tomorrow to buy a gate to keep Sailor from taking the stairs,PLEASE also think about buying her a bottle of Doggie Glycosamide. It is for joint and connective tissue support. My older dog Lucky is also showing his age and the Vet prescribed this for him to help alleviate some of the pain. It is a chewable tablet and must taste pretty good to him, because he scarfs it down.
I have mentioned this to you on two other occasions and haven't heard back about whether you were able to find it or not. I would think that your Veterinarian would either have it available at the office, or his staff can tell you where to purchase it. I am almost sure that one of the larger chains of Pet Stores would carry something similar.
I have heard you mention on many occasions that she is hurting and I am speaking on her behalf. PLEASE at least check it out if you haven't already. Actually, I am willing to send you a week or two supply from here if you'd like to test it on her first before purchasing anything. Let me know and I will get some in the mail tomorrow.
Also ask the staff at Vets office if you should try to restrict her from the stairs. Not sure if stairs are good for her or not, but actually the more moving around she can do, the less stiff things will be for her.
Give Sailor a nice pat on the head for me and tell her that help is on the way. ha-ha
Ruby
I was mistaken on the name of the supplement. I looked on the website where I buy my dogs medications - Drs. Foster and Smith and the correct name for it is Glucosimine. They sell it without a prescription it looks like.
Ruby
Hi Ruby..yes did take you up on the meds...took her to the vet as well, gave her a shot in the hip..she has much improved however with the snow and she loves running through it, I think that having to lift her legs higher and it being slippery out that she has aggravated it..do have an enclosure and am feeding her upstairs..she's not happy that I'm not allowing her downstairs...but it's for her own good...last night I put my heating blanket on the floor for her to lay on and gave her a massage...you can tell that it's the hip she lays on..if only she'd change laying positions but NOT...I also give her 1/2 a baby's aspirin hoping that might improve her condition...so will continue what I'm doing with the meds, stairs and minimizing how often she is outside in the cold...the snow in the back yard was about 1 to 2 feet deep and I was going to the back shed to get Christmas boxes out, each and every time she followed me..I also should have known better..she loves to play in it and roll..
Tomorrow I'm having a Christmas Luncheon so know she'll cry if she's not with them so will do opposite, put the gate at the bottom of the staircase so she can't follow anyone upstairs that is if she makes to much fuss at being on her own up there..
Just sat and brushed her, she enjoys that..shedding so much..am sure those hard floors upstairs don't help but same downstairs..at least in the living room she has a scatter matt...
Thanks for speaking on her behalf..I do listen..I do know what's coming..not tomorrow but will eventually if I see she can't move will make the decision which will be best for the old girl..not looking forward to it as she is my house companion and friend...
Betty-a few things, trying to get the glitter to stop falling, will try varnish, and cleaning, doing laundrey, chatting with you all and getting some Xmas decor up while praying the bad weather we are supposed to get is not as bad as they think:(
Am hoping Stacey we don't..have about 12 coming for the day tomorrow and a storm just won't do...have to play it by ear though, always the next day or 2 if we have to chance it..only thing is the food and they are calling it to be same all week long...hope you don't get it too bad know you also have travelling to do..
Just make sure Stacey that when you do add something for the glitter make sure it dries clear and doesn't yellow or it could spoil your project...
Ruby, Sailor saying thank you....
I've been wanting to tell you Betty that your house looks sooooooooo cozy and warm! Cute cat picture! Tiga is very cranky today.
I'm hemming the second sleeve, then I have got to go take a shower, I need to go to WalMart today, it's 41 degrees out there with a wind chill of 1 degree, let me tell ya it feels like a wind chill of 20 degrees, and a weather advisory??? I wonder what this says....oh, a lake wind advisory. Well I'm not on a lake nor do I live near a lake so I'm not going to worry about that one.
I am so sorry about your sister, prayers are being sent your way.
Dang, I am freezing in this room bbbrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Beautiful picture of Sailor. Her fur is so white!!!! My gosh, it looks like fresh fallen snow. Okay, glad that the shot in the hip helped some. How often did he suggest doing that? Just when things began looking bad or she seemed to begin having troubles again? I bet she loved the heating blanket to lay on. I keep a bottle of aspirin on hand for my dogs too even though it has been a while since any of them needed it. The pain killer that the doctor prescribed for Lucky had to be filled at my pharmacy because it too is a human pain killer too - Tramadol. He seems to be doing alot better than he was a couple of months ago. It has to be due to the Glucosimine and the Tramadol daily. He is eleven years old and I will be facing the same thing that you are facing in the future. Gonna be some red eyes around here when he is gone, that is for sure.
Gonna scoot. Trying to decide whether to be a total slug today and not do anything, or whether to try and wrap a few gifts. I will decide after catching up here on the threads. I hope that everyone is e njoying their day.
Thanks for the update and special picture of Sailor Betty. I see that she is in very good hands.
Ruby
It's snowing, It's snowing!!
Once did a crochet blanket with fentex, not sure you can even get that product anymore, anyway it's as heavy as can be, in the washer, will fluff it up and put it in her most favorite spot, in front of the fireplace...
Ruby what a chore to get her to take pills..I've put them in cheese, in weiners, wrapped in bologna, treat her with a piece, then a piece with pill while holding the other treat so she'll gobble it down, knows my tricks..she'll chew around the meat and often spit it out..
They sure are smart!!!
Crissy be careful of the roads..I need a few supplies from Walmart for tomorrow as well, option 1..go in late tonight when all shoppers are gone, or, option 2..store opens at 7..be there when it opens...
Our Walmart just increased it's size..it's less than 10 minutes away..is in Midland..grand opening to include 24 hr. service is Dec. 1st...tomorrow...that will suit me fine..the lady that never sleeps..can be in and out before most wake up..lol
What am I accomplishing..I haven't stopped since early morning..helping the group tomorrow getting some of the project done..not too much just enough that we can enjoy each others company without fretting about the santas...
Two tables cleared and 3 more yet to be done..lordy I've a lot of 'JUNK'!
Just came down to put the afghan in the dryer and now backup to finish vacuuming...with grooming Sailor it seems hair is floating all over...did my bedding..need new throw pillows, might be on my list when shopping this week..made a list for shopping one evening this week..thinking about washing the craft room floor..that's a big undertaking..we'll see about that one...
Well can't linger because if I do..that's the end of my energy and I'll be laying on the chesterfield with feet up..not time yet
Is that unusual for your area Crissy..you sound excited..
We usually get 1 to 4 inches a year, usually in January or February. It's not going to stick, it's 41 degrees out there. It's melting the second it hits the ground.
Betty, the glucosimine tablets are chewable and tasty to them so dhe will gobble them right up. I ordered something the other day to put some of Lucky's meds in. They are called pill pockets and they are made for dogs. It is a tasty moist chew that one of the ends is open in order to put the pill in it and then you just squeeze it shut. Works like a charm.
Not sure how long it will take to get there but tomorrow I am sending you a bag of the pill pockets and a couple weeks supply of the glucosimine. She will eat this particular brand of glucosimine without the pill pockets. Save the pill pockets for aspirin or some other med that you know she will hate taking.
We will fix her right up and she will be begging you to buy her a pair of new dancing shoes. ha-ha
I am ready to head to the sofa for the day. I have done a few loads of laundry and that is pretty much all today. Have been sitting in this chair for the most part. John has gone to visit his folks at the Retirement Home because they didn't get to come to the family Thanksgiving dinner this year. His mom is 90 and getting more forgetful with each day. I was going to go with him but since it is raining I am staying home so that the dogs can stay inside instead of having to be out all day and soaking wet and muddy when they come back in.
Enjooy your day everyone.
Ruby
So I guess I have Friend Laura (Laura 1), and Daughter Laura (Laura 2)!!!
Glad to see you back Laura (1)……we love to hear from you whenever you can drop in…so very sorry to hear about your sister….. Have a history of cancer in our family so we are well aware of what you go through, will keep you both in our thoughts and prayers. Please keep in touch when you can.
Betty, that is a wonderful little doll……..my MIL has started to write little notes giving the history of some of her family treasures like that and in some manner attaching the note, or including it in storage boxes, so that the children and grand children will know about it at some future date. Like the little wall shelf unit I have that my husbands grandfather made his grandmother for Christmas in 1933 when they were short of funds, several of her old dolls, special dishes etc…….I am trying to get Mum to do the same….I know she has a lot of things with family history that we are not aware off……..she has a little Sea Shell wall art piece that my Grandparents got on their honeymoon…..gran died when mum was only three……..she also has a green stone necklace my uncle brought her from England after the war….he was POW for a couple of years. I always figured that even if my children don’t want the item and they went in the rummage sale, the person who buys them might enjoy a bit of history with the item………..
Shar you grandson looks like a real treasure…..reminds me of my cousin Joey when he was a boy.
Such a precious picture of Missy!!!!
Bev, it is amazing the things they find to play with isn’t it? Oh how I want some snow….in the 50’s here so not much chance I think…lol.. Do hope you all get your heat working properly!
Carol, Beautiful sunset!!!!!!!!
Stacey don’t worry about the glitter….I spend half my time with the vac chasing glitter, doggie/kitty hair and stray Santa fur….a few more sparkles will just brighten things up a bit!!!! Betty is right, you are too hard on yourself….I think they are really beautiful….you really did do a good job!
A hug and a wave to all of you whom I have missed!
I'm not so sure Trisha that the kids of today want our 'knick/knacks' as they would call them..I know mom has over 20 large porcelain dolls she's made, some lifesize and are worth $$$ and she has such a collection of Royal Dalton figurines..the only grandaughter my brothers daughter visited with her a few weeks ago and said, 'please/please grandma, don't leave me any of your dolls or figurines' and brothers and sister said much the same..she's hinted that I'll take them..don't mind 1 or 2 for keepsake but lordy don't need a house of little people to scare me half to death as they sit everywhere..lol just goes to show you doesn't how even we when it comes to some articles don't want to be keeper of them when handed down...to me though, furniture is another thing..love old pieces...
OH yes, I do love the old furniture....my great Auntie was and Antique Dealer and as a small child I loved to walk around her house and look at all of the wonderful old pieces....my two cousins and my dad's sister ended up getting almost all of the furniture when Gran passed on......I have one little table of hers....and the old Cast Iron Bed Frame.....my dad and uncle were born in that bed. We have a few pieces that belonged to Bills grandparents.........then I have a Boston rocker, a 1800's side table and old brass candle holders and a Seth Thomas clock (which I hope to get back in working order someday) that belonged to my next door neighbor....he was 93 and still rode his bicycle every single day....he was on his way home year before last, a Recycling truck was at the end of the street, didn't see Mr. Thompson and backed over him.....was a very sad day for our neighborhood. We have small memorial plaque and a flowering Cherry tree next to my driveway in his honor...he was a wonderful old man......these are pieces his children didn't want and cherish each and every one....I would like to see if his son can give me a little history on them when I see him.
Trisha OMG isn't that a beautiful piece..can't believe they'd let an antique like that go..how sad that Mr. Thompson died such a tragic death..one of the girls that go to the 'YMCA' swimming became a widow just before Christmas last year .. the garbage truck was backing into an area park, her husband had his head-set on listening to music while he jogged..guess he didn't hear the back-up siren nor did the trucker see him on the pathway..very tragic as well...how very kind of you to have a memorial in his name..
Girlfriend Ann just called, they didn't come down to the cottage this weekend, she always drops in Sun. afternoon for a visit so instead she called..says it's starting to storm in the city..winds are high here but no snow yet..am sure it's coming..pray that it doesn't until tomorrow aft. once everyone is gone..because I'm not working in Barrie this week they thought it an opportune time to have it tomorrow so I can be here...
Told you all I'd wane out about 6pm...not far off..already dark outside, didn't even get dressed, just can't believe the laziness..but it's soooo nice! So off to lay on the couch, made my bed look so pretty I'll hate to get into it tonight..so perhaps the couch will be my resting place..
Called Greg's and no answer, think there was hockey and Melanie's Christmas party for the kids..had hoped he'd put my snowblower together JUST in case..I'm sure I can do it though...if I need it in the morning I'll get it done otherwise I'll wait for him..could be a long wait right? lol
We will hope the snow hold off for you.....sounds like a good time for a nice fire and a cup of cocoa............!
We have our Advent Fair at Church tonight......mum and I are in charge of instructing small ones on making Clothespin Angels this year!!! Should be interesting....................am more in the mood to sit by the fire with cocoa.....oh well.
Have a few errands to run first so should get going......have good evening!
Beautiful furniture! I had an old china hutch that I sold before I moved out here. I so wanted to keep it but it had beveled glass that was not replaceable and I just knew it would get broken en route, so I just sold it. It was an antique and got about half my money out of it, I couldn't find anyone else to buy it so I just took it. I hope they are enjoying it and I hope they didn't break the glass!
Have a relaxing evening Betty, and a good and eventful evening at church Trisha. I'm going to continue working on my Santa.
betty, cute snowman! and the mold is setting looks like it took just fine but have to cut the recipe in half had alot of extra, now to get someone else to hurry up and pour hers lol
guess i'll get a nasty text behind that he he he...
ahhhh survived the inlaws lol but we'll be back up there on sunday again hope they get out all of their bickering out by the time we get there..

Good Gosh, I have been reading threads for some time! LOL...
Of course I come home first. My bird is driving me bonkers, won't leave me a alone for nothing, she is mad at us for leaving her.
But , what can we say love her to pieces. I have had to fix my post several times for her helping me to type.
Oh my gosh, Cooked my first breakfast in the kitchen...Ham and cheese omellets, they were yummy.
Ves and Liz...Woohoo DH was proud as ever when we found we caught 2 mice!! yuk...
Betty, Yep going to hook Santa up right at the door to welcome us at the door. Your home looks so lovely all decorated and lit up. Just make me smile to see.

Well, LOL I've read so much, I'm lost...so far threads have moved...
The weekend was awsom, Saturday, We watched literally for hours 2 Bald Eagles patiently fish on the open seam of the lake.
You know I was just in awe. Liz, you wopuld have loved it Ducks EVERY WHERE.
boy oh boy are they loud. We wnet for a brunch this morning...it was awsom, Stuffed myself silly.
Worked on my green Santa, the trim is giving me a headache, made it too thin I guess.
Crissy so smiled that you are working on yours...Glad you had a nice turkey dinner too.
Oh Carol, wow! what a wonderful Sunset.
Ruby, Awe, you are so sweet. I hope you enjoyed your day of relaxation too.
Wonderhug, You just take it kind of easy...you've had a rough time so getting tired quickly going to happen...Sweetie, so sorry to hear about your sister. I think just calling her to say you love her is good. I know it is probably not easy, but know you have her in your heart is good.
Trisha, Oh I just love your Antiques...So Beautiful.
Well, I guess I will say goodnight, I am sort of babbling on, lol as i can do...I am tired from the sress of the road.
Was worried all weekend too, Sabrina came down with a temprature!! OMG, I hardly know what to do, i have not had a sick kid for a very long time...Water, lots and lots and asprin to bring down her temp...Doctors office first thing in the morning...Grrr, I wish I would have made her take the flu shot. But she is complaining of a sore throat, hoping it's not strep.
Hello and Good Night to all...See you on the morrow!

Morning...singing' don't have to go to work, no work, play all day' lol...
It is snowing, but not stormy at least for now..everyone will be arriving at 8:30 for the day..had my bath, going to curl my hair, check my supplies and hopefully be at Walmart..omg just realized today is Dec. 1st and they are open 24-7 so that means as soon as I'm ready out the door I go..need a few supplies for the luncheon today...
Exciting to stay at home and work while doing Christmas luncheon and crafts...
Judy the cottage sounds wonderful..am sure Steve is glad renovations are behind him...tell him I have a few projects he could come help me with...i.e. dropped ceiling and 4 door and casings....oh it can wait till he comes and spends the week in the summer while you are all on vacation..lol Hope Sabrina is feeling better today-off to the Dr's you go..
Liz, they slipped out of the mold no problem right? need a photo to see what yours looks like..Trisha ordered a mold but she's not pleased with her...sent her 12 faces so hopefully she gets them today or tomorrow...
I've 4 projects to work on this week...my snowman wooden sock/hand painted sleigh/ snowman mirror and santa wreath holder..the first 3 are for Me/Me/ME and the last for a gift...that's my challenge...oh, must also help Suzanne witht he remainding 11 santa's...did I say I'm working from home! Hadn't planned getting out of my jammies but not so sure Walmart would let me in..the gang today would get a kick out of it...now as grandma would say, 'what would happen if you were in an accident' didn't all mom's say that when it came to wearing clean undies..lordy think she wanted me to change 2 or 3 times a day JUST incase....
Best not play here too long, much to do..all housework is done, place looks incredibly "Christmas" - only 2 more floors to wash before the gang arrive and I've accomplished all that I wanted to do and MORE this past weekend...
Are they about the same size as the ones I sent you? Great job, now onto painting them..will that be a challenge for you? want to see the finished product..
Well got to Walmart it was 5:30, girl at the till said I was the 5th customer since midnight...either it's the storm, economy or people just aren't aware of it...OR maybe some people like to sleep...the 24 hrs. she said is only for December..then they go from 6am-midnight..that is still ok with me...
Didn't I run into a girlfriends hubby..he was shaking his head, said 'what to h..l are you doing out at this time of day and in a storm...' oh I just needed some embellishments for the santa workshop I'm teaching and goodies...told me to get myself home..lol
Did shovel the snow, as I'm shovelling it's almost a wet snow, mild out..very/very slushy so as the temps will drop it will not be nice driving...
Will wait until 8:30 to see if all are coming because of the weather or doing it another day then I'll know what to occupy my day with...
Oh my gosh - What busy little bees all of you are. I have loads of things to be done, but am certainly slow about starting them.
I pulled a Betty earlier today when I was shopping online for gifts. I bought myself an opal necklace and earrings. They were so pretty that I couldn't resist.
I had lots of fun going through all of the hand made/painted decorations that are sold under the heading of Worldstock at www.Overstock.com. Some beautiful things and the prices were not too bad either. Yesterday I put in an order to awebsite called Domestications.com. They had some pretty decent prices on their bath and bedding items. I bought everyone in the famiily new comforters or spreads. I ordered a holiday cover for master bedroom with poinsettia all over it. I also bought a holiday one for Emily and her designs are candy canes.
I shouldn't have to do much more going in to stores. I did think of several more names to add to my shopping list, so maybe some store trips will be necessary.
Anyway, it is Monday again. I hope that everyone will havea good day.
Ruby
Bev, I still can't figure out how to post them! I don't know where to put them, I tried to use "my pictures", but it says there are no pictures! Boo hoo!
It is so easy to post them but if you can't find them in your puter you will have to ask another. Write Dave a dmail and see what he tells you. Sorry I didn't help much. HUGS BEV
Yes Audrey you have to go to the directory in your computer where you store your pictures, wherever they are downloaded in the computer. In Windows it's usually in the "Pictures" directory found on your start button, or if you open your hard drive maybe in a folder there.
Yea, I worked on the Santa for a little while, I have both sleeves sewn and cuffs made, the robe is ready, and I have I think one more side to sew on his hood thingy. I'll finish sewing that tonight then I will be able to move on finally!
And some of us had to work today :pppppp LOL!
Ruby, never think of shopping on-line, guess it's because with working in the city and travelling, stopping into several towns I'm already at stores so makes it easy to shop...must try it though...
Everyone just left...wouldn't you know the telephone kept ringing non stop..they leave no calls...can't win..
But we had a tremendous day..
Started out with our resident George who calls us his herem of women...started to pass wine around at 10:30 in the a.m. lol..his wife dropped in for a few seconds..orginally it was Grace who wanted to join everyone in painting class and then George said he also wanted to so she decided not to..the whole idea was 'time alone' so George has been painting with us for 6 years at least...I would have thought he'd feel odd with all the women but nope, he just loves the attention he gets....
