Beautiful pics Rose,knip and Gp!

Klamath River, CA

We have been getting cold weather and it's given the birds an appetite. I go out in the morning and afternoon and scatter several handfuls of seed on the front driveway.By the time I get back inside and to a window there will be a dozen Steller's , 3 Scrub Jays, 6 Spotted Towhees and several Dark-eyed Juncos munching out on the seed. The Calif. Quail are slower to show up. It takes them about 45 seconds to get there. The other birds give the Quail a wide berth. ( Had to take this pic from a distance and through a window. It only shows a small part of the birds that are chowing down.

Nice photos Knip. The Robin shots is wonderful. What type of camera did you get?

Nice pics of the Jay having a bath, GP. They really get stuck into it, don't they? Gorgeous Painted Buntings. I think America has got them by mistake and they really belong in Australia.

Wow, adelbertcat, that's some line-up. Are the Quail a bit aggressive?

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

Everybody's pics are so pretty. I have a few on the camera but probably nothing good.

I would just love to have some little quail in my driveway!!

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

oh those quail would be cute at your house Nanny!

Klamath River, CA

MargaretK............I've never seen the Quail be aggressive, but the other birds give them a lot of respect for some reason.

Rockport, TX(Zone 9a)

Those Quail are just gorgeous! I love everybody's pics!

I know y'all see Canada Geese all the time, but I haven't seen any on the ground since I was a kid. I didn't even know what I'd been looking at until I got home and looked them up!

There weren't very many - 4 or 5. Aren't they supposed to travel in huge flocks? Have ID'd them incorrectly?

Two hawks flew over together. I think they were Red-tailed Hawks.

The geese appear to be some form of a hybrid, only part Canada Geese.

Cramlington, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

Yes those don't look like Canada geese. Here are some from yesterday near the thin ice of the pond.

Margaret my new camera's a Sony H50 - love it!

A Steller's Jay came by for a handout, on a gray snowy weekend. There is still a pair of Jays coming to the feeder. They haven't stayed this late in recent years. I'm hoping they will stay all winter this year.

I always put our chicken & turkey carcasses over in the woods for the assorted critters. This crow seemed to be enjoying a bit of Thanksgiving Turkey on saturday.

I think it's a Sharp- shinned, but I am usually wrong...

he ambushed the shrub there...now he is going around on the ground.

Gorgeous photos from everyone.
Miserable day, brings in the birds. I hadn't seen the Junco in about a month. Had 4 or 5 in the yard today. And some Evening Grosbeaks have arrived.
Here are 2 females. That's the only half decent pic I got, the other turn out blurry.

Saturday and Sunday the first heavy snow fall, of the season, dumped 10". The Bohemian waxwings arrived in good numbers along with the snow.

Great pics guys!

Anchorage, AK(Zone 4a)

Freezing temperatures arrived early last fall, before leaves fell off the Mountain Ash (Rowan) trees. I've never before seen so many leaves on the trees this late in the year.

Thumbnail by Grasmussen
Anchorage, AK(Zone 4a)

All of those excess leaves make it more difficult to take pictures, of the Waxwing.

Anchorage, AK(Zone 4a)

We saw one large flock which probably number 2000+. It was spread over several city block.

Thumbnail by Grasmussen
Anchorage, AK(Zone 4a)

The Waxwings haven't adjusted to the commotion of city traffic and people yet. The flocks are easily disturbed, and constantly moving around.

YAY! They are back. I just love these birds so much.

Grand-Falls, NB(Zone 4a)

Love to see the Waxwings again Gary. The Mountain Ash across the street was gobbled up by the Robins, so when they came there was none left. Had very little crabapples in my trees this year. I asked my sister for some, and put that in a makeshift feeder, no takers yet.
They ate from it last year, so still hoping to see them.

beautiful Gary!!

PERTH, Australia

That's some flock of Waxwings, Gary. What beautiful birds.

Burn, that's a fabulous shot of the Woodpecker hanging under the feeder.

Nanny, remember that old adage about clean windows. Good capture on the hawk.

Beautiful shots of the Heron, Elphaba.

Knip, I hope you continue to get huge enjoyment out of your new camera. Now, look out! Poverty looms supreme.

From this afternoon, a female Rainbow Bee Eater. I've got only a short time to continue to take photos of birds anywhere but at the ocean or right on the river. It was only 30 degrees Celsius (90 F) today, but in the dry bush where these birds are, even though it was just over the road and up a bank from the river, it felt pretty warm and I was lurking in the shade waiting for the Bee eaters to alight on a branch.
