Happy Thanksgiving to all my sistahs.
It's a tradition in my house. That is when the traditional dinner is served at my house (because I can make the rules), In lieu of the prayer, we join hands and each person has to talk about what they are grateful for... it usually plays out like a prayer of thanks, and we all say amen together.
A couple days ago Jaye asked us to speak about what we're thankful for. I've given that a lot of thought.
I'm thankful this year for the relationships in my life. The close relationships that bring me such joy, everyday. The distant relationships that bring a sense of mystery to my life. The "sometimes" relationships that allow me to talk for hours to catch up on all that's happened since last we talked. My long time relationships that have taught me patience, gratitude, integrity, and honor. And those long time relationships that have saddened me because I learn from them too.
IMHO, relationships with family, friends, and yes, even mere acquaintances, are the greatest gifts that God has given me. That gift alone has enriched my life more than I deserve. My prayer today is to someday be worthy of all the relationships God has given me, and that I am so grateful for.
Thank you all for being my friends, sistahs, confidants, and adding so much to my life this year. I love each and every one of you.
Again, Happy Thanksgiving, enjoy every moment with your loved one(s)... how ever many people you have around you today, may each and every one of them treasure their time with you.
Have a question.
I will be cooking 2 12# turkeys. If I am suppose to cook a 12 pound turkey for 4 hours, how long would I cook them with them both in the same roaster?
This message was edited Nov 27, 2008 9:51 AM
are you cooking them in the oven or in an electric roaster?
I had the truducken yesterday that was suppose to take more then 4 hours to cook through in the elect. roaster started it at noon and it was done by 4:30ish.
if in the oven then watch for the lil pop thing to come up ...hehehehe
My guesstamate would be give it 5 hours to start with then check it from there
if you have a meat thermometer it needs to be at least 165 inside temp.
BJ, your post brought tears to my eyes. I bet your sentiments echo in all of our hearts. I know it does in mine.
My 16# turkey is to cook for about 3 hours ..... is yours stuffed? I cooked two turkeys last year and can't recall the time. Maybe an extra half hour? Do they have the pop up indicators? Sorry, I'm not much help!
Deborah, hospice should be able to help your aunt. Their #1 job is to keep the patient comfortable - no pain. Hospice is willing to use dosages and combinations of medications that they won't use in the hospital (liability issues, maybe?) and are experts at pain management. I'll keep your aunt in my prayers.
Call the Butterball Turkey hotline!

Butterball web site. They have the number there.

I think it would be hard to improve on what BJ has said, I am just so Thankful that all of you came into my life and I love you all.......may your Thanksgiving Day be all you wish for.
Sorry, got busy in the kitchen... I have 2 12# turkeys in an elect. roaster. The chart says to roast them for 40 mins at 425, then 3.5 hours at 325, another 30 mins to brown, then let set for 20 mins for the juices to soak back up into the skin. I'm sure hat's for 1 turkey, but I crammed 2 of them in the roaster... it's pretty tight in there right now, but in a bit, I'm sure they'll shrink to have a space around them. They do have the pop up buttons, and we're not eating until 4:00... so, I figure 5 hours should be enough. If not, we'll just have to hold dinner for the guest of honor.
Happy Thanksgiving all!

Thanks Betty. You stay nice and warm and hope your earache is all better.
What are you crafting on lately?
LK
To all who started out as internet friends and have become my Sistahs--I wish each and everyone the most blessed day filled with family, friends and lots of food!!! Jaye gave us permission to over eat! Thanks dear one.
Happy Thanksgiving, you too Betty even though I know yours has passed.
BJ, I hope you are still pain free today?
Marion, she may be busy eating herself, so I will give us all permission to stuff ourselves today.
((((((((((((((((((((((HUGS))))))))))))))))))))))) to all.
Linda Kay
I forgot to say, that I got more socks from Janince, and Debra. Thanks, now I have a couple of matching pairs!!! LOL
Linda Kay
Well, LK... I'm pain free at the moment... we'll see what happens after I eat some of all this food I've been cooking... Stay tuned, Update at 10.
The whole family is here now, except 1 son and 1 g'daughter ... it's so good to have them all here at one time.
Hope you are all surrounded right now with those you love, and who love you.
Afternoon Sistah's
Just done eating and mom just left the house.. She got here at nine this morning and was mad that I didnt have the Turkey in the oven yet...lol She said she thought I was getting up early... Max went and got Christina and she is spending the day as well.
We had turkey, baked beans, mashed taters, green beans , biscuts and ooo Im stuffed.... We all stood and said what we were thankful for but my moms touched my heart the most... She said she was proud of us for taking the house into our hands and making it work... almost made me cry... Then she gave me our Christmas Card early so I can go shopping in the am for a few things.. This year was tight for her too but the little bit she sent is going to be wrapped and put under the tree.. She kept apologising that she couldnt do more but I know she has done too much already....
I hope you all are having a wonderful Thanksgiving! Will check in tomorrow after the morning shopping trip.. May need to drink coffee...lol
Donna & Family
Jaye thanks for adding the names of Prayer needs by our names. It really means alot to me.
Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. I can taste the dressing and turkey. Can not wait for tomorrow. I am the head cook, will have a couple helpers. I am the worst head cook, I want it done MY way and if it is not I just do it. But my daughter number 2 will be there to help and I do not have to tell her how to do anything, she has been my side kick for quite a few hostings. She knows how to take charge and get the job done. Her and I one day would love to have a catering business, I do the main part of meal she does the baking part.
Tina, that's the kind of kitchen help we can appreciate! Enjoy your meal together.
Donna, how sweet of your mom. She had probably been worrying just as much as you about whether you would keep your home. I know she's proud of you. (we are too!)
Hey, LK, if you get bored sitting there with your foot up and want to get wild and crazy ..... wear one of Janice's socks and one of mine. Whoo Hooo! Ok, ok ...... I'm sure you can come up with something more entertaining than that. LOL!
BJ, how did those turkeys turn out?
Jaye, I missed your request to post what we are thankful for. I'm thankful to have friends and family to share good times and bad. You are all included in the 'family' section.
Hi Tia, what time will dinner be tomorrow. I am on my way!!! We had our turkey and dressing--just enough for the 2 of us and it was a wonderfully quiet day.
Now I am off to do something constructive or destructive not sure which.
On a full stomach? How brave, Marion. What are you attempting?
Oh I don't know just trying to do something!! Actually putting the lining into the coat that is taking forever to do!!!! Bulky, hot and heavy to work with. I had rather be quilting!!!
My brain has shut down due to the energy needed to digest this food in my stomach. Wouldn't dare take on anything requiring much brain power right now. LOL!
Mom insists on 2 so you have time. We will have Turkey and dressing, baked beans, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, pea salad, green bean casserole, jello salad(orange jello made with orange juice instead of water shredded carrots, diced celery, pecans) gravy, rolls. Dessert is for others to bring so no telling, I do know pecan pie, rocky road casserole??? pumpkin pie and nanna's nana pudding.
Mom is worried about left overs, well IF there is any my chickens will have a nice feast come saturday. That is IF I give up some.
I need to do something but just dont have the want to right now.
Leaving now!! Sounds so good Tia, Tina even after all we had. I was really proud of myself this year I just took smaller servings so I could sample it all. Still haven't had dessert--that is later with some coffee.
I just want to get this coat out of my way. It is starting to keep me awake at night but it is so hard to work on because of the wool and the size of it over all.
Oh goodness I can just imagine, I have nightmares of the things I want to get done or need to get done. I have about 5 quilts going on. And about 20 or so Christmas projects in the works.
Why do all my quilting sistahs have to live so far away? I will never get done all the things I have ideas to do but when I stop thinking of things then I am done for!!!! My DIL started this coat over a year ago and it has come to Mom so it will be finished--just I hate putting linings in things oh well this isn't getting it done.
Tia, have a wonderful day tomorrow and and even better dinner!!!
Just checking in. Turkeys fell off the bone, and were soooo juicy... I have to tell you, I'll add apple juice, cloves and nutmeg to my brine every year from now on... that was the best turkey I've ever put in my mouth. Everyone loved it. Everyone has their dishes full to take home with them, and now their watching the rest of the Cowboy game... after the game is over, we'll have desert, then they'll all leave. I baked a plain cheese cake with blueberry topping, and a Baileys Chocolate swirl cheesecake... Gwen brought a pecan pie and a dump cake... I didn't have any pumpkin pie spice, so no pumpkin pie today.
I think I hear someone calling, so back to the thick of things...
Later Gators.
BJ, how was the Baileys cheesecake?
Glad to hear your turkeys turned out good. They sound yummy.
Marion what kind of coat are you working on?
LK
Was the Baileys cheese cake posted here? If so I missed it, who has it on their page. I would love to try it.
The Bailey's Choco Cheesecake Swirl was to die for. Very rich, though... doesn't take but a couple bites to be satisfied, so it goes a long way.
Crust:
4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup cocoa
1 package graham crackers, ground to crumbs in food processor
Combine butter, sugar and cocoa powder. Stir in crumbs. Press evenly over bottom of greased 9-inch springform pan and bake at 350 for 10 minutes. Cool pan and grease sides.
Filling:
3 8-ounce packages cream cheese, softened
3/4 cup sugar
3 eggs
3/4 cup Bailey's Irish Cream
2 squares (2 ounces) semi-sweet chocolate, melted
Beat cream cheese until smooth. Gradually beat in sugar. Beat in eggs, one at a time. Blend in Bailey's. Pour about 1/3 mixture into a bowl and stir in melted chocolate.
Pour half of plain mixture into prepared pan. Drizzle with half the chocolate mixture. Repeat layers. Make a marbled design by gently swirling batter with a knife.
Bake 10 minutes at 450, then 55 minutes at 250 or until cake tests done.
BUT... I didn't have a bottle of Bailey's open, so I used some Jamaican Rum Cream instead... and it was still sinful...
