BEST/WORSE & WHAT DID I LEARN TODAY - PT.70

(Laura) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Mom, I don’t think there is much I’ve said about you that I haven’t said to you.

I think dad hired and fired me at least 7 times before I went back to school.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Laura, love the relationship you and your mom have...lol
Know Jeff wouldn't have been able to work with Roger, Greg I'm sure could as he adored his dad (not that Jeff didn't) but he'd do anything his dad wanted...I work for BIL and sometimes I so see Roger in him..some days I'd love to kiss him, other days I'd love to shake him...so funny..

Well I've put in quite a day..knew if I fought being tired I'd get a lot accomplished...

Started with pouring 4 faces, then cut and decided to stain 15 bases..swept the cutting room, cleaned the craft room just a little, cut out 5 santa outfits and while watching the documentary on was it Johanesburg??? where almost 1,000 died..mass suicide..must have been the anniversary so thought while I watched I'd sew..5 outfits later they are done...I was able to empty the mold and pour 4 more...

Came downstairs to make sure the kitties had food and now it truly is time for bed

night/night

Wow, that didn't take long for morning to come...

Newcastle, ON(Zone 5a)

Morning all..
Betty I am just shaking my head...you sure put a lot on your shoulders..but I think you thrive on it.
You aksed earlier what I did yesterday..well I had a dentist appt...then I went to Square Dancing..then later on I drove to Oshawa to see my son and DIL's newly renovated kitchen that they had almost finshed. My son did all the installation of the cabinets plumbing and electrical..only thing that they hired out to do was the countertop.
I am very impressed! They have new appliances too..and a stove with a double oven...my my my...

Crissy..so glad you were able to find Melissa's phtotos.
Here is the link again

There were so many that just took your breath away. I voted in all the catagories..and some that I voted for won.

Crozet, VA

Good to see everyone who is posting. It took me some time to read two days worth and the only thing that I can remember to comment on is Bev's dog Blue. My comment is that her Blue is almost identical to my Blue. My Blue has some white on his chest and some on some of his feet. So glad that he didn't have heartworms. what a relief that must be for you.

Here is hoping that everyone has a good day today. Take care all.

Ruby

Newcastle, ON(Zone 5a)

Hi Ruby,
I gave some of my applesauce cake to my neighbour and she said the really enjoyed it..
thanks for the receipe.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning, traffic was heavy but we managed to stop at Second Cup for hot chocolate with cream and candycane toppings..omg so delicious..better not make a habit of this..Suzanne just said she thought there was one about 2 blocks from the Barrie office..

Paul and the girls just got in..Paul said he was tired of bumper to bumper trafic and was looking forward to and counting the days until the move...for me it's "5"...as I sit here smilling..

You did have a busy day Carol..aren't we impressed with our boys..Greg did same at his house except he had all the cupboards made but did all the rest himself..wore himself out..laughed at the boys, if you ask them what they are getting for christmas the say 'we've already got it grandma, a new fridge and stove' lol

I am so amazed at how tall Kyle is getting..seems he grows an inch every week..will be as tall as his dad...

Ruby, what's in your plans for today? Out to get more of that Christmas shopping done?

I brought a bag of those ho/ho/ho outfits to gather and faces to paint..I can see the light at the end of the tunnel thanks to a working evening last night..one more and it's feet up..

So best get myself organized...sooner I start, sooner they'll be done!

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Good grief Betty, if I stayed up that late and got up that early I'd be a walking zomby, literally.
I felt a cold coming on the last couple of days so I took some nighttime Alka Seltzer Cold and Flu last night when I went to bed, my congestion and sore throat are gone and I feel fine Yay!! I love that stuff!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Crissy I've never heard of Alka Seltzer Cold and Flue..thought they only carried products re tummy aches..hmmm will have to check it out if it works that quickly..

Jim Falls, WI(Zone 4a)

We carry it at our store. Not a big seller there. But I might get some to keep on hand. Does anyone know if it is compatible with Blood pressure meds?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Hi Vicki, how is Linda doing? including her in my prayers...

Will have to go in search of some myself just incase...some of the meds on your side of the border we cannot get, will have to check it out..
Crissy is it in pill form or is it bubbly like the seltzer taken for tummies?

Glenview, IL

Good morning, good morning!!

Geesh, I have missed you all...

I am buried in cards, lol...nice and busy.
But I think I can play today.
Yipppeeee Betty, Finally moving closer to home, 5days will go quickly!
LOL are you packed??
...
Waving hello to all...Cold and windy here today.
Bev, so glad to hear about Blue.

Audrey, prayers being said.

Hiya Sister Dawn!! was nice to see you post and you will be able to come and play a bit more. I give you lots of Credit for holding your tongue to the Boy! Think if was me, well, I wouldn't be so nice. Far as work, well they put us hold again.
Yikes a ton of rumors going around. The biggeast and lastest, Closing the office, geesh, can you believe even the regular passer byers have made comment about us closing the office! LOL, funny everyone but us knows whats up...But i am ready for whatever.

So, i am in a Secret Santa exchange here at work...Should be fun, now got to find some cute little items for my buddie...Too cool, she wants an apron! Easy peasy (as Betty) would say. going to make it for her. LOL, i think I will make a tiny one for her dishsoap like Deborah made for. With a note, probably will fit too! She is like a size 0.

OK...Well gotta get to these darn cards!
See you in a bit.
Enjoy the day.

P.S. Good stuff...Alkezelter Cold tabs...yep Betty, just tlike the tummy tablet.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Meant to ask you Vicki...the weatherman is saying that an Alberta Clipper is travelling our way, likely to hit this aft. and continue for 2 days...will you get some of the bad weather...i.e. snow...

Friday our ski lodges open..early this year so if things continue they'll have a great winter season..

Travelling through Midhurst last night on our way home from the Mall it was the most beautiful winter perfect setting that I have ever seen..trees are so ladden with snow that you barelysee any green..pines were spectacular...might if the weather continues as is, go on Sunday to take photo's...

Victoria Harbour, ON

yuk Judy, don't like taking them, makes my tummy toooo bubbly..an apron, my goddness girl, you'll have to leave that sewing machine out on the table permanantly...

Talking about sewing machines, mine just has to go back in the sewing room, dining room table looks messy and drives me crazy..don't like things that drag..other than me of course...

You are dead on Judy, no sense worrying about what passerby's say..it will happen or not happen in it's own time...

When you say Judy they put you on hold...do you mean no works for anyone, nothing going out of shipping or just the news is on hold as to what is happening...it's been a long process Judy, no sense fretting..Size 0...oooohhh think my one upper leg would take more than a 'o' but at one time, yep fit in to same...

I'm going to be doing an apron on the 2 Mrs. Claus costumes, not that fond of the pattern I chose but didn't have enough patterns topick from..
We're going at lunch so Suzanne can purchase all her material as I want to do the 2 at the same time...

Guess who will be working the 1st week at home (answering calls-assessments) BUT in the meantime..making ho/ho/ho outfits...

Victoria Harbour, ON

Judy, must purchase a new Labtec for computer, better quality, this one does one on one imaging on msn just fine but pictures "NO"...

This will give you an idea of Mrs. Claus apron..not fond of the dress nor the apron so will have to improvise...

And yours? will you do a Christmas one?

Victoria Harbour, ON

forgot the photo...

OMG I got an e-mail that is a must to view, about the death of an american..anyone get this? So well responded to, not sure if it's something that one is allowed to post???

TO DAVE AND ADMN.

Not sure I am stepping the boundries of Dave's Garden, but thought what a sentiment this Australian Dentist did write...

If not acceptable, please delete and I'll know better for next time..not meant to be posted for debate, just read and know how much truth this letter was...

Here goes..

OMG what would I do if I got kicked off because of it????
Oh well, it's that worth it..

Written by an Australian Dentist....
too good to delete....

To Kill an American
You probably missed this in the rush of news, but there was actually a report that someone in Pakistan had published in a newspaper, an offer of a reward to anyone who killed an American, any American.

So an Australian dentist wrote an editorial the following day to let everyone know what an American is. So they would know when they found one. (Good one, mate!!!!)

'An American is English, or French, or Italian, Irish, German, Spanish, Polish, Russian or Greek. An American may also be Canadian, Mexican, African, Indian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Australian, Iranian, Asian, Arab, Pakistani, or Afghan.

An American may also be a Comanche, Cherokee, Osage, Blackfoot, Navaho, Apache, Seminole or one of the many other tribes known as native Americans.

An American is Christian, or Jewish, or Buddhist, or Muslim. In fact, there are more Muslims in America than in Afghanistan. The only difference is that in America they are free to worship as each of them chooses.

An American is also free to believe in no religion. For that he will answer only to God, not to the government, or to armed thugs claiming to speak for the government and for God.

An American lives in the most prosperous land in the history of the world. The root of that prosperity can be found in the Declaration of Independence , which recognizes the right of each person to the pursuit of happiness.

An American is generous. Americans have helped out just about every other nation in the world in their time of need, never asking a thing in return. When Afghanistan was over-run by the Soviet army 20 years ago, Americans came with arms and supplies to enable the people to win back their country!

As of the morning of September 11, 2001, Americans had given more than any other nation to the poor in Afghanistan. Americans welcome the best of everything...the best products, the best books, the best music, the best food, the best services... But they also welcome the least.

The national symbol of America , The Statue of Liberty , welcomes your tired and your poor, the wretched refuse of your teeming shores, the homeless, tempest tossed. These in fact are the people who built America .

Some of them were working in the Twin Towers on the morning of September 11, 2001 earning a better life for their families. It's been told that the World Trade Center victims were from at least 30 different countries, cultures, and first languages, including those that aided and abetted the terrorists.

So you can try to kill an American if you must. Hitler did. So did General Tojo, and Stalin, and Mao Tse-Tung, and other blood-thirsty tyrants in the world. But, in doing so you would just be killing yourself . Because Americans are not a particular people from a particular place. They are the embodiment of the human spirit of freedom. Everyone who holds to that spirit, everywhere, is an American.

Glenview, IL

LOL Betty..was watching for the photo.

hey thats cute, Was going to make the bib apron but wohwa, never thought about ruffles, That's kinda her style too!!

LOLOL, just thought of of funny, Think I'll place string shaped as an apron for her...
good thing she has a good sense of humor!

On hold mean that too Betty, Nothing is to go out without special permission, been that way for a while. The cards I am doing is just "busy" work. But I was also meaning they are putting off telling us the scoop until whenever, the other rumor is by end of month...Yep Merry Christmas to us huh.

Ohhh, i hope you and Suzann find the material you want. That will be real pretty.

Glenview, IL

OMG BrAVO Betty!!!

What a great article.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Applause! Applause!! Applause!!!!

Thanks for posting that great letter, Betty. ^_^ And as we'd discussed a long time ago... you are an honorary American!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Oh I'm sure Judy the material is there just waiting for us...just got the call from Jeff so the Wii's are a go for the kids...makes shopping for their gifts so much easier...

Laughing Judy, I'm trying to move around so I don't fall asleep..Paul and Suzanne are both in meetings, the girls are working on files, me I've the santa faces and thread out just waiting for another burst of energy..you watch after your Thanksgiving when all your hustle and bustle is done I"LL be sitting with coffee in hand, maybe Ruby's applesauce cake and feet up watching a good show and thinking of you all...

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning Jaye...yes, I do feel American, if not a USA American than a North American..same but different right? lol..thanks for reminding me of it..

Do you know it was 9 degrees out this morning..do any of you know how cold that was...the kitties and the dog didn't even want to spend time outside..it WAS cold! guess you will now tell me it's anywhere between 60's to 80's in your neck of the wood right?

Crozet, VA

Wrong Betty - It is not that cold, but is going to be in the 40's during the day all of this week. That is cold too!!! Too cold for me to be outside unless I absolutely have to. I cancelled a doctor's appointment yesterday and today. I rescheduled the first one for next month.

I woke at 3 AM again and stayed up until 9 and then took a 2 and a half hour nap. I was having wild dreams and was kind of glad that the barking dogs woke me up when the cleaning lady arrived. I am sitting here now with a cup of hot tea and hoping when I am clearer headed that I will get up and help do a few things. I was thinking of making a pot of chili, but have decided that I would rather send out for chinese and then make the chili tomorrow.

So, the answer as to what I am up to, is nothing much. ha-ha I had thought that I might go and visit Emily today but called and cancelled that too. I just don't feel like leaving home this week. I did begin sorting Christmas gifts and actually wrapped a few of Emily's on Sunday. I took a picture of what is going in one bag, and when I upload to computer I will show the pic here.

The only two people that I can think of having to still buy for are John and Tucker. I am going to buy Tucker some big bath towels when I go to Walmart the next time. I have no idea what to get for John though. I am dealing with a chest cold and that is making me very sluggish. Don't want to do much of anything.

So Betty, you have a good afternoon and then only 5 more travel days. I know that you are thrilled as well as anyone should be. The commute that you do now would tire anyone out. Smooches to you and the rest of the group. Off to look busy. ha-ha

Ruby

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

It's bubbly. The best flavor is Orange Zest, it's daytime and doesn't taste all mediciny. Last night I had Cherry which is nighttime. It's hard to tell the nighttime from the daytime, unlike dayquil and niquil. lol

It's 55 degrees here with what feels like a 10 degree wind chill. It's 59 in Orlando, FL. I don't know what 9 degrees feels like, lol that's why I live in the South, even though it gets really hot down here. I've always said I need a summer house in Alaska and a winter house in the Florida Keyes!

I'm doing a 5 day dance for you Betty!! Woo Hoo!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Thank you to both of you...what does 10 degrees feel like, well a lot colder than 10 when you factor in the windchill..

Just to tell you, the front door was so frosted up this morning that it took me quite a lot of strength to be able to open the latch..when you walk on snow it crunches..let the car run for 15 minutes...not suppose to let any car run because of the carbon..can get a fine, but how does one get rid of 1/4" of ice inside without defrosting...when you breath you can SEE each and every breath..when the animals are out for 2 secs. and are scratching at the door to come in.. it's cold enough for the ski lodges to open Friday because they can machine make snow to enhance their hills even though they got at least 1 foot...

Once wouldn't want to go out without gloves and proper attire....think I might make myself a deerhide belaclava (dickie we call them) lol for myself...

Next shopping day will certainly be earmuffs...

Glenview, IL

OH Gosh Betty, You sure described cold quite well, thank you very much! lol,now I'm shivering, teeth chattering and oh man i am so not ready for the blast.

Think I better have a fire tonight. OH had a nice one last night...Was up 'till very late, but it was very nice, LOL enjoyed my fire and a late night chat.

Yikes, you definately want to dress warm, how is your ear anyway?? infection cleared up? At any rate you don't want to get sick again.

Hi Ruby, Enjoy your Relaxtiation...Hope that cold dispels quickly.

...OH and LIZZZZ, Better pay attention to Doc..Thats all I am saying. LOL, You know what I ehhemm, mean.

Glenview, IL

Betty, forgot to ask, did you get your material??

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

loved tha article Betty!!

-who wanted a pretty gift box?? LMK and I will dmail some gifts I have done for some peeps that may see it here

Victoria Harbour, ON

Yes, I we did Judy..talk about making use of a one hour lunch..

Suzanne went into the restaurant which is next door to the fabric store and ordered our meal..she was eating hers as I was next door picking up fabric for Santa and Mrs. Claus and all the little embelishments needed as well as more Apron material..then I left the store went to the restaurant and ate while she went and paid for the material..

Got back to work 10 minutes early..lol..omg there was beautiful material, was tempted to purchase some for wraps around santa's shoulders but because the price for the workshop included all materials if I added something else then most likely I'd be taking the loss...

Tired today, don't feel sorry for me, I don't feel sorry for myself, but, what I did do was cancel tonight's class, that way I can get to bed early (maybe 6:30) then rise early enought to make the list of what I might be missing..know dowels were on the list but when we stopped in Barrie on our way to work this morning I purchased some, let's hope it's the right size..wouldn't have mattered except I drilled the holes in the base last night so now it has to be exact..

Don't think Miss Suzanne will have company for the ride home tonight, might snooze...

I'm at the adding of the black iris inside santa's eye on 12 santa's..should be able to get the faces done and home with me by 4:45pm...

JUdy, you enjoy that fire..nice and cozy, you domean the indoor fireplace though don't you, not an outdoor fire...

They had called for a storm front moving in they said about3:00 - 3:30 and right on it's starting to brew..we'll all be waiting at the door for 4:45..Paul iddn't take a lunch so he left early..

Had hoped he's see the roads not at their best and call for us to go home...oh well, not to be...

Victoria Harbour, ON

Stacey it was Mellisa (TOMBAAK) who was looking for ideas...best not show us because yep, some lurkers about...lol

Newcastle, ON(Zone 5a)

We got some light snow here. My son came after he finished work and put my snow tires on. Just in time..the snow was falling as we were outside doing the tire switch.
Hope the snow isn't too bad for your drive home Betty.

Hi Judy..wasn't that just a great description by Betty, of how it feels here in the winter..LOL
You stay warm by the fire tonight.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Hello, just arrived home..not even turning the lights on, off to bed I go...stormy here Carol, calling for quite a bit more snow tonight and tomorrow...

Didn't switch the telephone, should kick myself, if it's stormy then must go in unless of course Paul would Wayne at the other office to go over switch the phones and I could work from home..

Not going to worry about it, I'm going to sleep with the angels..

Glad you've your tires on..now you'll be safe..

Night/night everyone

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Betty, have a good nights rest, and stay safe if you must travel.

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

We have had frosty weather here now for the last 2 nights.
Glad my Garden is all cleaned up.......peace of mind for me anyway!

Walked up a few houses on my street to a house where the owner had, obviously, spend mega-bucks on landscaping the narrow strip of grass between the sidewalk and the street. She dug up all that soil there this Summer and made it into a beautiful garden.

She had lovely, pink Cleomes (Spider Flowers) blooming there all Summer--as well as 3 Hibiscus "Trees" and all kinds of other plants.
I have always admired her Cleomes as I drove by her house and wanted to stop by and ask if I could take off some of the seed pods. I did not just want to do it w/o her permission---so the the other day, I walked down to her house, knocked on her door and asked if I could. No problem!

Then--I saw that she had about 6 Mandevilla vines planted by her front door bed---all still vining up the supports she had provided between the bed and her front door overhang--blooming away.

When I knocked on her door--and she answered--I saw that she was an Oriental lady. I pointed out to her that all her Mandevillas and her Hibiscus trees were going to freeze in the next night--as we were having a COLD forecast....28 degrees last night.

She had NO clue! I guess wherever she came from--she was sure these these were all perennial flowers......
I told her to dig them up TONIGHT or they will all be gone. I think she listened to me.....

Today--as I left for work at 6:30AM--and drove by her house--they were all gone.....taken inside for safe-keeping.....Made me SOOOO happy!

I imagine I saved her about $300+ by "educating" her about all this....

Hey!!!! KNOWLEDGE IS POWER!!!!"

Gita

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning, how nice to get the seeds Gita and help someone out..now if the seeds take each time you see the flowers you'll think of the act of kindness...

Imagine going to bed at the time I did last night, but did fall asleep immediate..Sailor wanted out about 11, got up waited for her to come in..oh/oh had a chocolate...back to bed and woke up just before the alarm..

Now I'm sitting pretty waiting for Suzanne to call as we'll be heading in early..8:30 appt. and you never know what weather and traffic can bring..

Did snow heavily last night but right at this moment it's clear although we could get a surprise when we near Barrie..the snowbelt capital of Ontario..

Much to do today at work (craft wise) and then tonight for last minute needs for the workshop tomorrow which is in Coldwater where I lived before here..not looking forward to entering that town..even thinking tonight making spaghetti sauce JUST so we wouldn't have to go to restaurant there..still attacks of depression when I near the town so best keep away...

Tomorrow please pray that the blizzard they are calling for does not come or all participating will stay home..whatever would I do with all these supplies..should always take a deposit for the class but never do..if some find it too stormy I'm out the $$$ and they are allready earmarked for 2 Wii units...got to help Santa out you know!

Must run, should go out and let the car warm up a bit...

See you at the office!

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

Betty-have a wonderful day and a safe drive....will cross my fingers that no blizzard, maybe just a light snow:)

Newcastle, ON(Zone 5a)

Hi Gita,
What a wonderful thing you did. Reading your story just makes me smile.
I'll bet you could give your neighbour lots of tips about gardening.

Well..we have a nice blanket of snow..so pretty outside...
I was going to go out to an auction at the Senior's centre last night..but with the snow I decided to stay home.

Betty I sure hope all your people come for your workshop..you ahve put so much work into getting ready.
Have a great day all..

Victoria Harbour, ON

Roads were clear coming in, just heavy traffic..have to say because of how the snow came and weight of it..I've never seen such a winter wonderland..should have brought my camera..

Of course tomorrow I only go as far as Coldwater so not to the same extremem, but on Sat. morning might go pick up the Wii in Barrie, if so I'll be sure to bring my camera..I'm in awe...who knows, if roads are clear and we finish early enough might make a run after the workshop...

Carol, is the Seniors complex that new big one we drove past when I was visiting..not far but still far enough the travel on a snowy day..

Best get gathering MORE santa kits and yep, paint more faces..today will do it though...lol

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Drive careful in the snow ya'll (I have to throw a little southern in here every once in a while, even though I'm not southern LOL!) I hope it doesn't blizzard or it doesn't turn to ice, down here it won't blizzard but there are ice storms. I'd rather have the snow, of course I always call in sick when there's any increment weather, and sometimes the governor will call an increment weather day anyway.

Gita, what you did is so cool! I'm sure where she's from everything grows all year round.

I'm going to continue working on my Santa tonight, woo hoo!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Last year Crissy almost every Wednesday we were hit by ice storms..stayed home nice and comfy..got into habit of forwarding telephones every night..guess it's that time again..lol

Glad you haven't given up ont he santa project...now look at Janice, she was ready to pack all away, didn't and now she's got 'treasures' hand made and pleased with the results..soooo please do not give up..
