Yes................his first plant is a strep called Genesis which I am dying for...........a Fleischle........but I cannot spend any more money................he has quite a few, including a flowering Silvia..............I know.......I got one last week........

Now Gail why did you buy a Silvia when you know I have it and I also have a baby of it... It was one of my first streps and will always have a home here... It is one of my favorites...

mermaid...your violet is lovely! See...they can get along nicely without us for a while! When we look at our plants everyday, we don't notice the changes as much but when we return from being away, we can be pleasantly surprised.

Well, here is a pic of my new shelves, with it's first tray of leaves . . . not all the shelves were on it when I took this pic, but I've put 2 more trays on since. Not the best of pix, but I couldn't back up anymore!

Oh, that was bad. Let me take another one, maybe with the lights turned off . . .

Well, it's not as blurry, at least.

Great Syru, May you have many healthy plants on the new shelves!

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

Thanks, Sally! I almost feel like a real grower of plants! I will be going to Walmart later this week to get 2 more 48" shop lights, and bulbs to go with. I feel so organized, and I've only just gotten one shelf 3/4 of the way full!

Gotta love Costco . . . these shelves were only about $65.00. Hope they still have them in the spring when I'll NEED another set!

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

Way to go Nic, Nice looking shelf you have there.... I felt the same way when I got my first shelf... so neat and organized.. I am trying to get mine neat again since I came home from the show I have so many more plants to put on and some did not like where I put them a few weeks back so I had to put them back where they like it...LOL silly plants... Hope you have many plants that grow for you...
Hugs,
Susan

Nice work! I'm definately jealous ! Good Growing!

wow............65.00 for a stand! It looks great. I wish we had a Costco around here. When I was at my daughter's house, I simply could not believe my visit to Costco. I bought 6 white cotton Martex heavy towels for 20.00.

That is nice!! I wish we had a costco too-- I have been unable to find 48" wide shelving units. I use the 16x48 wire shelves (from HD) that attach to the wall. My house is tiny and I am limited for space-- they are currently in my bathroom--don't know where they will wind up as we complete construction Oh yeah-- they also double as a place to hang my clothes to dry --adds humidity^_^

Gail...I can walk to Costco from where I live! What do you need?--LOL

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

I saw those shelves yesterday, and I just couldn't pass up on the price. They may not be as "pretty" as the chrome ones from Lowe's, but they're definitely not as ugly as the heavy-duty ones I showed you, Gail. I even figured out a way to hang the lights, without having to drill holes . . . let me see if I can get a good pic . . . I had some of that green coated gardening wire . . .

When filled with gorgeous plants no one notices the shelves. That being said-- I think they are nice looking--wish I had some!! btw--really like the critter in the background of that last pic;)

I don't need anything..........thanks. I just love shopping there. I think Nichole's stands are awesome looking! If I add any stands I am going to Costco!

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

I was in Costco a couple of days ago...they had the most beautiful orchids! They must have just come in---they looked perfect. No...sadly, I did not buy one---they were huge! You should see all the stuff they have for Christmas...Including cameras! Those shelves come and go at Costco. I've had my eye on them for a couple of years, if I move to a larger place--they are mine!

What amazes me, is that we become genius's at figuring out anything to do with our addiction. We manage the most difficult. Our plants don't realize how lucky they are to be in our possession. ^_^ ^_^ ^_^

Re: the camera issue--I thought a couple of you might be interested in this response I got from another forum--now I am more confused! LOL! I guess everyone has their faves. The good news seems to be I can get a good camera for much less $$ than I thought!

I HIGHLY suggest a Canon Powershot. I have owned Kodak, and Nikon point and shoot cameras and they have all either stopped working, or the sofware in it locked up. I've had 2 Kodak that just stopped working and the exact same thing happened to a bunch of them at work. We went to a Nikon, and it worked well for a time and then just locked up (don't know how to explain it other than the lens won't even retract back in.

I own a Canon SLR EOS Rebel XT. It is a higher end camera but it is a wonderful camera and I have never had a problem with it. So we decided to get a Canon to see how we faired. We picked up a PowerShot and they are amazing. We have had 3 of them over the years and this last one is the PowerShot SD1100 IS. It has an 8 megapixel resolution so it is going to take crisp photos, and it has a built in Image Stabilizer, so it will help make sure those photos in focus. It also takes amazing video! I mean really nice quality for a point and shoot camera.

The price has come down half since we bought ours over a year ago and you shouldn't pay more than $150 for it now. It can either be a simple push the button and take a photo camera, or if you like to adjust the settings you can do that too.

I will never buy anything other than Canon for my digital cameras. They have more than proved to me that they make a very reliable and high quality camera. I do own Nikon and Minolta 35mm cameras but stick to my Canon SLR for my "artistic" photography, and we take the Canon PowerShot everywhere!!

You should consider it, you won't be disappointed I promise Thumbs Up

Everyone will have their favorites. The best thing is to figure what features you want/need and then get a name brand that fits your budget. I have read not to get less than 6 megapixels, and do get one with a decent size memory card. The higher the megapixel count the better the picture when you enlarge it. If you don't plan on enlarging your photos beyond 8x10 then 6 megapixels will be fine. The main thing you want for photography of your plants is a macro setting, which allows you to get closer to the plant. In my camera it says it is for "taking pictures at a distance less than 24 inches" Usually electonics employees have a working knowledge of their wares-- tell them what you need and let them recommend one. A really good question to ask is "do you have a lot of customer returns on this item/brand" That will give you an idea of its reliability. Nothing lasts forever and rough treatment can kill any digital camera pretty quickly.

Not that I want to be an enabler, but as far as camera's go . . . here is the one I wanted to get for myself, but my mother said she'd get it for me for Christmas . . . QVC . . . 4 easy payments of $37.49, plus tax & shipping!

http://www.qvc.com/qic/qvcapp.aspx/view.2/app.detail/params.item.E190394.desc.Canon-PowerShot-A590IS-8MP-Digital-Camera

It's only 8MP, but since the one I've had for 6 years is 2.1MP, it's a step up. Besides, this is one of the few that mentioned "macro" in the descriptions (that had payment options, that is!).
