November Blooms #3

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

For those with Dial up let's start a new bloom thread.........OK?

Here is a baby with her first bloom....Neils' Lady Charm
I have not grown her so I am in love!

Spooky's first bloom seems to be growing in size.

My grocery store dendrobium may have just thought she started blooming until Sunday morning comes at below 40 degrees. I might bring all my orchids in until I get the poly up on the porch.

This is just a closeup of the same orchid.

I could have taken her from afar with lots of blooms but it is dark outside and I didn't think they would show up.............another grocery store dendrobium..........the first one has bloomed 2 or 3 times now...........

I don't know what or who she is but she is now sitting safely on the floor of the porch rather than hanging in the trees.

Hoya australis has such a fragrant bloom I can't wait to put her in the house if even for just one or two days..........the entire front porch envelops you in this fragrance............

Jim's Pink Rose made me take a pic as her bloom is going to be orange with that foliage! First bloom is the best!

I am now wondering what I was doing the day I stuck so many leaves of Shenandoah's Sweet Talk!

That's all, Folks

One more strep opening up this morning. She is Wild Irish Rose.

Beautiful! AV Wild Irish Rose is on my list of faves, now so is strep Wild Irish Rose. How many streps do you have? You can round off to the nearest hundred...LOL

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Phoebe..dmail me your address and I will send you some leaves.........tell me what you are looking for and don't be modest.........if I don't have it it, I will tell you.................I just grow leaves all the time and get new ones.............I am in love with this Wild Irish Rose. I am getting ready to have a big mess as I will run out of room before long..............

I also grew 13 kinds of sinningia speciosas from seed and they are needing repotting and I am doing it today...............some of they get giant..........

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

Gail, anytime you prune your streps, I'll take some off your hands. LOL. I'm trying seeds, but they don't seem to be doing anything. Still need a magnifying glass for them. LOL

Wonderful pictures, Gail. I love how well Epecia's photograph. They always amaze me.

Georgette just got her first bloom!

WOW!!!--that color is gorgeous! I have to begin building my greenhouse now...^_^

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

You don't even want a greenhouse for the gesneriads.............just a room and some stands with lights. I have 4 stands in my office where I grow everything BUT streps because it gets too hot in here. The episcias and sinningias and Kohlerias love the heat...............Then, in the living room and bedrooms I have stands for my streps where it is cool.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

SAlly...........my episcias were sitting in their permanest trays! (LOL)

Andalusia, AL(Zone 8b)

WOW,pretty pictures ladies!

South, TX

Gail, it doesn't matter if they were in the trays. The leaves shine. Love the way they do that.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I went back and looked...........you are right. The leaves do shine and that is awesome looking up close.

South, TX

Yes, each is different of course, but many have silver backgrounds you really see in lilght or the flash of a camera.

Gail, Gail, Gail. The strep you gave me labeled Happy Time . . . I picked it up, was looking at it thinking "oh, it almost looks happy - even starting to send up a bud . . " then ker-plop! Fell right out of my hands! We'll see how it survives . . .

But, in the meantime, here is a pic of the "Jolly Dollie" I won in the raffle on Wed.

I made the mistake of trying to move the peduncle around a leaf for a better look, and it snapped. But, here is another bloom of Lyon's Spectacular.

Vintage Wine is a nice bloomer, too. I've got to get out the brushes and clean it up a bit, though . . .

Let's see if the blooms look better enlarged . . .

Gorgeous blooms everyone. I really love that Vintage wine. Love variegated foliage.

I thought I'd post a few of the flowers I just bought at MAAVS......something pretty to look at on a cold and blustery day. : )

Mini-Sinningia Amizade - from Lyndon Lyons table.

Another one I got from Lyndon Lyons. It is really darker than this picture shows.

WOW. Just dropped in before leaving for P. therapy. What a cheery and beautiful group of flowers.

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

They are Gorgeous! I think I need some of those--LOL! At an AV club meeting(held at a member's home) a couple of months ago, I saw Amizade and fell in love. However, hers has variegated foliage w/some pink on leaves, and the blue in the blooms was much softer. The online pics Ihave seen more resemble yours. I wonder if her's was mislabeled?

Ellerbe, NC(Zone 8a)

Could be.....or maybe a sport. I didn't know sinningias sported like AVs do, but I was talking to Paul and he said Double Dilly is a sport of Danielle.

How would you know if something is mislabeled or if it has sported?!?!

Interesting

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

Hmmm....perhaps I'll check with the person who owns it--I dunno either.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I am loving all these wonderful finds and people growing so well.............back to watering.....

Everyone's pictures are beautiful. Just finished dinnerand I'm bushed. Been out all day shopping with my daughter, looking for shelving units that won't break my piggy bank. I only have room for one that is 36" wide or less. Tomorrow I'm going back to either Lowe's or HD and check out light fixtures. Saw shelves in Target that was 72" H x 36"W and 18" deep. I may go back for it. Wish me luck.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

you don't want 36" because you can't find cheap light fixture and lights..........find something that is 48"................that is the standard length or you can find 24".......those lights aren't hard to find but I don't know about the 2 foot fixtures............

Ottawa, IL(Zone 9a)

sinningia amizade does not have varigated foliage. the only sinningia that does have varigated foliage is auora borelius.
