Betty, any help with the big snowman will help, I would love to have him at the front door this year?

You know I just love that.

Ok so are we chattin on this thread or the other one.

Linda Kay, He is about 5 ft tall, I am 5 ft 4 so I thought, yea I know dangerous.......... i am going to make me a cowboy snowman. i am going to take an old pair of my jeans (wranglers)and an old western shirt of my hubby's and stuff it with batting, take some white felt type fabric and make his head and hands, or maybe even get some white mittens, use an old pair of cowboy boots. And then decorate as I go along, will probably buy his "doll" for 5 bucks at DG.

You with me. For the stand( what holds his body up) I will probably use either wood or some type of wire. Or even PVC pipe.

I will get on it after this weekend.

We'll all have to do new snowmen this year to go along with our wonderful Pauze Clauzse.

Ok..Linda Kay, tried to use the webcam here, not working but I'll give you a bit of an idea...

I purchased a plank from Home Depot 2" thick and about 12" or 14" wide... for mine I believe the snowman body was about 3' high

From this block of wood and my bandsaw I cut a strip off each side to create a body form to accommodate the head and arms...

I'll take photo tonight at home for you but in the meantime...

The arms were same as the Victorian Santa...wire was just a little thicker though...

When you cut the 'v' from the slab of wood which creates his legs, I drill a hole in each leg area (bottom of slab of wood) so that when I cut the shoes and drill holes to accommodate the dowel (which is about same size or larger than the santa dowel) this will enable him to stand on his own..

I do know this is not making much sense..I'm a visual person..need pictures..but will continue

I just called hubby and he said mail has not come by yet but he will call me as soon as it does if the package is there

Deborah I know yours will turn out wonderful......It took me forever to get up the nerve to start and I had a lot of mistakes on this one....but you CAN teach an old dog new tricks...I'm learning.........and after this first test run they are so much fun....THANK YOU BETTY!!!!!!!!!

Betty I am always interested in Snowmen of any type......I have to put way a lot of my Christmas things immediately after Christmas to get ready for the club New Years party....so for January and a good part of February I keep out all my Snowmen and "Winter" (non-Christmas specific) decor.......I would have Christmas up year round if I could get away with it!!

I will post my santa here, until I hear from Betty!

Trisha, I'm studying your Santa. My plan is to trim in fur, too, once I find the right kind of fur. Haven't had the chance to really look yet.

Judy, all your Santa needs is a bunch of Christmas cookies and he will plump up! lol! Don't know if this will be of any help to you, but I have an angel tree topper that needs 'fluffing' each year. I use wadded up tissue paper to stuff under her robes and it gives it fullness.

Liz, is your trim glued on? It's so glamerous! He could be 'Vegas' Santa!

And I love the blue Santa! Whose was that? It's on the previous thread and I don't recall. It's amazing how simply changing the fabric color or texture makes them all look so unique!

Another masterpiece...the only thing Linda Kay I'd like to see you do a bit more hair..i.e. glue a few more strands under your existing beard for a little more fullness...also, you could cut away just a tad of hair so that his pretty red mouth shows a little..

Again, it could be the angle of the photo..

DO SO HOPE nobody gets angry with me for my critique..trying to be helpful..I'm amazed at what you are accomplishing on your own...

Oh yes, an ARMY of Snowmen!!!!! If I can't have real snow here, at least I can pretend..... and I have a good imagination!!

LK, we cross posted. Yet another color - purple! Gold trim was the perfect choice for the color of royalty. And love the Noel sign he is holding.

(Giggle) Robyn, we made some of those cards for Christmas a few years back (mini marshmallows), did some reindeer one's too (choccie covered raisins)....:)

Sheila, here is the pic of the snowman pattern and I'm getting the list together now.

Those aree always a hit aren't they. Everyone loves those kinds of cards.

Here's the list of materials:

1/2 yd. white flannel (Walmart cheapie)
White thread (I used machine quilting because of the strength it has)
2 3/4 in. black buttons (shank on back)
3 1/2 in. black buttons (shank on back)
1/2 box stuffing approx. (about 2 bags)
kitty liter
1 adult size plastic top hat (found at most party stores for New Years parties)
1 12 in. grapevine wreath with about a 6 in. hole for the center (it's what he sits in)
1 broom
2 3-4 branch pine picks
Various Christmas picks and decorations
2-3 in wide wired ribbon
Black felt
Orange felt
1/4 or 1/2 in. black elastic
cotton crochet thread white
Black yarn
pink blush for the cheeks
glue gun
7 in. needle
Fake snow Optional.

Robyn you had commented the 7 " needles are hard to find....any place that has doll making supplies should have them...... I can't remember if I saw them at Michaels, JoAnns, WalMart or at our local yarn and needlework shop........but as you can see we do not have a large selection of stores to choose from......I will look next time I'm out.
