Morning BSF
OH WOW... another mini sistah gathering... how exciting is that? I do hope someone took at least ONE picture ... and will share it with us.
MORNING:)
Audrey-what is gas at where you are?? It is the lowest it has ben in the last 3 years most places, so I am wondering after your post...
LK-the PO will honor it's insurance if you have receipts for all the things purchased to make it and a pic of the item....FYI...
Gotta go B4 I get in trouble:(
Addressing the issue of postal insurance... here's what I learned a couple years ago. I received a package from my sister. She had sent me an original painting on porcelain that she had created for me. One of a kind, original... hard to put a price on that...
She insured it for $500. When I received it, it was broken, in spite of her packing it with expert attention. I called her, and told her that it was broken, she called her post office, and they told her that the insurance is purchased for the receiver, not the shipper.
SO, I went to my post office, and they DID require a receipt... appearantly, gifts can't be insured... only purchases. SO, my sister sent me a receipt, and the post office honored it. Although, it did take several months to receive it. I sent the $500 to my sister, and she painted me another one.
Just thought you'd like to know that... when you purchase insurance... you're protecting the "receiver"... not yourself... for the loss.
Mornin all post to be another pretty day for the next 2 days then the bottom falls out. Gonna get some birds fixed up in the new hoop house today.
Morning Tia Tina... have fun playing with your feathered friends today...
I'm going to get a box to the post office today...then try to get some fall gardening done... then try to get some more done on my quilt... then maybe, just maybe, I might feel up to cleaning out my fridge... I think I saw something growing in there last night.
Morning All,
Yep that's what they lady at the PO told me too. You were all talking about lemons, limes, etc...Next weekend I'm going to Mandrin (SP?) Orange Festval. You cna pick up 10lb bags for like $6.00, and lots of crafting booths.....Something I need to look into next year...Wonder if I can make some Mandrin scented candles.......hhhmmmmmmm
I received some brugs in the mail yesterday. Thanks The box made it to the trash burn last night before I could write down how I got them from. I think it was Deb.
I can not wait for spring to see all these growing.
Kathy and Mike visited my house and Kathy ate soup with me. Then next morning (yesterday) they picked me up and off we went to Donnas to pick up the birds. Kathy got 4 cocks and 4 hens. I love the cooing sound they make. Here's my sis Kathy and me. Kathy next time please spend the night with me!.
Kathy threw her back out getting out of the truck yesterday morning. Kathy sweetie, I'm about to call you on the phone to check on you.
Donna, sweetie, your place is just fine. It always makes me feel good to see you and Roger.
I', typing this still half asleep. Hope I'm making sense.
Yep, Tina, I sent you some brugs. I made a list from some posts I made way back in Sept. We are starting to get some low temps now. So now is the time to really start cutting those back. I hope they grow and and bloom sweetly for you next year.
Well then I did get it right. Thanks a bunch, I am making a new garden area this fall and they will all go into this garden, Hubby will flip on me. But oh well I do all the mowing anyway. How far apart do I need to plant these, I have one that Jaye sent me also, so I will have 4 now. Do these spread?
Jaye, help here with this answer to Tina. I forgot to save that link you gave us a while back. I'm in zone 8 and some will come back though I did lose some. I think I didn't protect the ones that didn't come back well enough with mulch. I don't know what method you want to use to root them. BJ used several ways I think. One is to layer a small cutting on top of the soil, another way is to water root them (my favorite way) another is the plant them in potting soil. After the ones in water get lots of roots you can pot them and hold them over in the house or a shed and water them like you would a house plant. I the spring I'd advice you to plant some in the ground and keep some in pots just to see if those in the ground will come back. You may want to pick a southward spot with maybe a house for a wind break to test your 7 zone. Hope this helps.
Where I plan to put these is right off my patio on the south side it will be about 20 ft from the house so should get good North block but will not get wind block. We do get all the wind from Texas. :)
Yes, Deborah... the experiment I did with the brug cuttings were some were cut into logs, cutting between the nodes, and placing the node side down in the potting soil, then just pulling the dirt up around the log to half way up the log... keeping the dirt very moist and in a damp environment... two weeks later, I had sprouts. 8 out of 12 of them rooted, and are now about 5" tall. I did cover the rest of the log with soil after they got tall enough to not bury the sprout.
Another group of cuttings I rooted in plain water, changing the water weekly... two weeks later I had some roots, but mostly little white nubs ... I put those in pots with potting soil a week ago, and are doing fine now... those never even wilted.
Another group of cuttings I placed in water with a bit of peroxide, changing the water/peroxide every day... they wilted, and after two weeks, I threw them out.
So, my experiment has left me with something like 20 brugs... when I only wanted about 5. So, what to do with them all is my problem now. I'm thinking that my sistahs might just be getting some gifts come spring time.
I am on a rampage this morning!! Beware!!! Where is Truest and her steam roller? The funny little 4 legged beasties had the nerve to dig up and chew on my hosta Deborah sent to me!!! First they ate and destroyed my peacock gingers now my hosta. I thought slugs were the hosta demons!!!! This really makes me mad since I was being kind to them, bought them their very own feeder and keep it filled AND this is the way they say thank you? HUmmm
Pass the muffins please. I need some goodies to calm down.
Oh Deborah what a fun day you must have had with Kathy and Mike there. I am going to be lucky enough to met them one of these days!! Donna, friends come to see you not your house!!!
BJ the recipe you posted sounds really good. Humm, might try it tonight.
Oh Jaye, thank you very much for the dark roast coffee and blueberry muffins. I need that this morning.
Tinky, sending hugs and hoping today brings a new job for you!!! Can't have the fairy unhappy now can we.
Oh please add me to the gift list. I lost all of mine--used the water/peroide method and had absolutely no luck with that one. Put out nodes then croaked!! Nice of them wasn't it? Get my hopes up then go leaves down!!!
These 3 i got from Deb i will have in the house over the winter.
Tia... all of mine are staying indoors till spring too.. on the sun porch.
Cindy, I know you miss your two dogs. Their memories will be with you always. I love the pic of the little pom. He's precious.
BJ, maybe I'll pull out "clean my ref" or else I'll just have to do it anyway. Several Chemistry projects are a brewing in there.
You got it Marion... you're first on my list.
I would say I'd take some too, but Sweet Sistah Jaye is send me 6 cuttings of her Brugs. I'm going to have the prettiest lot in the whole mobile home park yep yep and it's is because of all the plants and seeds I've received from all my dear Sistahs here at DG!!!
I'm thinking that if I had taken notes on the science projects in my fridge... I might have a cure for something... but since I didn't take notes... I'll have to throw it out, and start all over again. I don't even own a petre (sp) dish.
Godd morning sis Marion! Are your beasties furry squirrels?
Oh gosh same here Cindy, I can not wait until spring to get all of them going. Going to get me one of them tillers cant remember the name, but one that is light weight and I can handle it. Cant wait.
pea soup and misty out this am but I am not driving...workin on double checking address of kids to make sure they are eligible
Marion, I have cuttings in water if you want some I can send some to you now.
How did you ever guess? LOL Yes, well atleast I think it is them--might have been the armadillos. Whatever they sure lost their welcome here!! I am so angry--trying to salvage some of them. Why me? :-(
