Audrey, I have to ask what a bar tack is?

Wow I could not find you all and thought you all left town and did not invite me... Boo Whooooo.... Was just stopping in to say Hello and to say I hope you all have a wonderful day.
Hugs,
Susan
Okay ladies about the quilts! I am going to let this rest until after the first of the year unless some of you just want to do some now. Everyone will be getting busy with the upcoming holidays and I will be very busy with the festival pre registation. Things slow down after January 1st. There was a really neat idea in Better Homes and Gardens Quilts and More magazine using 10" squares. Simple, straight forward and a nice sized lap quilt.
Back to my work.
Susan we would not leave you.
LK, a bartack is like what they put on jeans at a point where there is stress on a seam. It's a zigzag that stands still! I have a small throat plate that I put over my feeds that wont let the fabric move while it sews. Some machines have a button or lever you can use to accomplish the same thing. .......Clear as mud?
Then you can do another zigzag over the first.. to make Xs all the way down.. secure it further!
Please Sistahs.. be kind to me.. I'm on my Special K diet.. DMAIL each other what you're cooking or baking!!! Lololol... kidding!!
Happy Birthday dear Debra! Have a Dom Perignon on us!
Susan, you know you won't let us lose you!! Flaming Kim will disown us!!
Cindy, I think I’m the ladybug without the purse.
Jaye, I let him know you said Happy Birthday. There is still Cheesecake, my throat has been really sore, so I haven’t been eating much.
Mom, I’ve always liked the type of quilt in picture 9.
Well, back to bed, talk to you later.
Susan, Jaye always leaves a link, with breadcrumbs at the bottom of every page, so if you get lost, just follow the link.
LK
Ohhhhhhhhhhhh it is raining here. I have not eve let the chickens out yet and it is 11. They have food and water and a roof so they should be ok.
Morning everyone….
Thanks Jaye, that might be fun! Mom and used to do a lot of card exchanges with the local club, but haven’t done much since that group broke up
Happy Birthday Debra!!!!!!!!
You have it right for food, lets start at Deborahs and make the rounds, and since Deborah is cooking for the winter we can stop back in for a second round!
While we are at BJ’s we can haul her off the doctors and tell ‘em the group is staying until they figure out what’s wrong. You take care BJ.
Linda Kay one of the first things is a good hot cast iron pan.
Tia we’re getting rain today too…
Waving to any of you I’ve missed but the MIL should be here soon so we can go torture ourselves for half an hour or so…..back later!
Good morning! There is still 20 minutes of morning left .....
Thanks for the birthday wishes. I was telling someone at the reunion this weekend about the butterfly kit and the birthday card with check inclosed for crafting/quilting purchases sent by my sisters here on DG. She could not believe we have never even met each other (in person). It's so hard to explain the bond between sistahs here - but I'm so glad to be a part of it.
Welcome Susan and Dusty!
BJ, I'm worried about you. Didn't read every line of every post since I was so far behind but hope you are getting a second opinion soon. That is a beautiful arrangement from Deborah. The blue in the peacock feathers really sets off the blue in the juniper berries.
There's been too much going on over the past three days for me to attempt to catch up. Tried to do some speed reading but am sure to have missed much.
Will someone explain all the dmails with addresses and phone numbers? What am I supposed to be doing? Do we have contact buddies or do I send my info to everyone?
The mini reunion in Cleveland was a big success. There were about 18 of us including spouses but most were former students. They had 3 students to attend for the first time - one originally from Holland and now living in the D.C. area, one originally from Yugoslavia and now living in England, and one originally from Iran and now living in Michigan (I think). The all attended the Karachi American School (KAS) at some time in the '60s even if they didn't graduate there. We had dinner Friday night at a fabulous restaurant. We had a private dining room in the wine celler, the food was incredible and the servcie was perfect. We talked and talked about every subject imaginable (of course we solved all the world's problems) and had no idea how much time passed. It was 1:00am before we got back to our hotel! I thought it was around 10:30!
Our host, originally from Pakistan and now living in Cleveland, had us to his home for a huge luncheon of traditional Pakistani food on Saturday. It was wonderful. We toured the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame that morning and everyone agreed it was great but we could have easily spent a couple more hours there. It is huge. We had such a large lunch that we didn't want dinner and just hung out in the bar talking again. Yep, 1:00am again. So, I'm a little pooped.
My brain is tired. Many of these former students are brilliant minds. I mean really - brilliant. Then man from Iran came to the US in 1968 and has been here since and is a citizen. He had the most incredible knowlege of history - both ancient history of the Middle Eastern areas and also of American history (he has detailed knowlege of Revolutionary War battles, Civil War battles, etc.) and is one of the most knowlegable people I've ever talked to about current politics and our form of government. He taught me several things about our own government and political system. We even talked about food and cooking at length - and he could trace herbs, spices, and cooking techniques back to their origins. I could have spent days talking with him.
Such a fascinating group of people. We will see them again in June when we meet in Annapolis and I'm really looking forward to it. Oh, and on the flight home I sat next to Santa Clause!!!! Seriously! This gentleman had shock white hair and a long white beard. He wore wire framed glasses and black leather 'Santa' boots. Come to find out, he works for a Santa agency and was returning from a photo shoot in Columbus, Ohio. He is flown around for photos shoots and is hired at large malls around the country to play Santa for weeks at a time during the holidays. His photo id included him in his santa suit and his luggage was - you guessed it - red! LOL! He was fun to talk to.
It's not morning any longer. It's 10 after noon. I'm slow. It's good to be back. I missed my sistahs! Am going to dinner with DH, my DD, DB and aunt at a nice restaurant tonight for my big 5 - 0 birthday. A bit too much 'partying' for this old lady. Hope to be in bed no later than 10:30pm.
Sounds like you had a really good time Debra. We missed you but are happy you enjoyed it and are home safely. HB--you ain't old--you just improved wine!!!
Yea Debra, I'm older than you...........Ladies we are aged to PERFECTION!!!!
Well, I might be approaching the over aged state!!
BJ, are you here? I was looking at flights to Dallas for Memorial Weekend which airport?
Dallas,TX (DFW-All Airports) or
Dallas, TX ( DAL- Love Field)
Cindy
I'm older also! 53 here... Life just keeps getting better with age!
Have a great dinner tonight.
LK
History....food.....sounds like talking to my son!! He has been a history nut from pre-school and is now in Grad School, still in History.....and he likes to cook.....and eat!
There are two sayings, you can take your pick:
1. Just getting better all the time.
2. (my dad's favorite was) Better over the hill, than under it!
I vote for #1.................
I'll be 58 this year so guess I qualify for either or both!
I'm here now, Cindy... DFW would be better.
Welcome home Debra... thank you for worrying, but I'm determined to finish this round of antibiotics before I move on to another doctor. I go back on Friday to see if anything is getting any better.
BTW... welcome home... we missed you. So glad you had a good time.
Well, Don came home tired... and just couldn't get motivated to do anything around the house, so he laid down, and I laid down with him, and we both fell asleep... he's still asleep, so, I'm going to go now and get the roast in the oven... dinner should be ready around 5...
LK... just disengage the feed, and act like your machine sewing a button on... and wallah... bar tack.
Wow, flights are expensive. Well, guess I better sell a lot of candles come the 1st of the year. I so want to make that trip. Deborah, are going to BJ's for Memorial Weekend?
Cindy, she doesn't know it yet but one way or another I hope she will travel out with me.
EVERYONE:
After the first of the year, I'm going to send a group blast to everyone to ask for your intentions to make the trip here for Memorial Day Weekend. I'll need somewhat of a headcount to locate beds for everyone... or hotel reservations, or RV hook ups, or what ever you all are going to need while here... so, be patient... it's too early to write anything in stone at this time.
Sounds like a plan to me. Enough on everyone's plate right now.
Alrighty then, I just keep thinking about it. I told Rick I really want to make this trip. So I'll zip up my trap until after you dmail...........
Where is everyone today? Bj, must be busy with Don, Marion is probably sewing something? CIndy is making candles? Tinky is anxiously waiting for a notice of the new job!
MARION! Bless your heart, I just got the box from the postman, and wow, you can really stuff the boxes!
Ladies, she has blessed me with some beautiful fabrics. The colors are so pretty, and will go very well with the leaf runner I am doing, but now with all the colors, it might become a lapquilt for me! And she also sent a bunch of quilters magazines. This will definately keep me out of trouble, and busy sewing something for sure!!!
Thank you so much! I love the fabrics!!!!
(((((((((((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))))))))))
#1 is fabric, more to come, so hold on...
Linda Kay
WOW! You really did receive a treasure trove....those are beautiful fabrics!
AHH.. I see butterflies.....I like the one with the pine cones and acorns
I could use that green one in the first pic with the stripes right now... I'm still short having enough to cut all the mitered pieces for this quilt... and that's just the color I need... LOL
Guess I'll try to get to Tyler soon, so I can shop a REAL fabric store... I'm getting real peaved at Walmart.
BJ, any word fromJoey yet? Last I heard you were writing her a long letter.
No word at all.
Debra...HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!!
What a wonderful reunion. I am so glad you enjoyed all of it.
I hope you have a wonderful dinner tonight.
Oh my gosh, Can't get too behind with you ladies, I have been enjoying of of the conversation. Wow, you have met some really cool people.
Wonderful beautiful fabrics going out!!
Lets, See, Oh Cindy, My gosh, you have an incredible talent. Your board for LK is marvelous! and Holy smackers, getting fat just looking at all you bake, I enjoyed the lemmon Merainge(sp) pie, yummy.
Deborah, Hi...How goes all the Stew making? Made dinner last night and yay, Steve's home so my cooking days are done for a bit. LOL.
Waving Hello Jaye and all...Hope you are having wonderfully busy days.
Fairy...LOL, missed having coffee with ya so, by time you read this I will be having a coke, lol if kids didn't find it. Are you still looking for those little hats?? I found some at our Craft store near work! they are 1' tall X1.5"rim If you are still looking I'll be glad to pick em up for you.
OK...will check in later, No news to report.
Great fabrics. This fat quarter things has been fun and I have really added to my stash. The only problem is going to be which ones to use first!
I have so much to do before Christmas and I am aching to get started on a quilt for just me, me, me. But that wont happen untill after first of the year. Poor me!! I can just look and touch the things I got from you all.
We want to see picks of your swap fabrics... all 20 of them together... PLEASE !!!!!
Welcome back, welcome back... wel---come baaaaaaaaaack!!
Glad you had a blast Debra. Ooh when you mentioned Pakistani food, I started salivating!! Their kormas or curries are very rich and to have a plate of aromatic lamb biryani!! Pakistani dishes are very different from the Southern Indians. They love to use fruits and nuts in their dishes. Their rotis or naans are to die for! Too bad I didn't learn how to cook briyani from grandad.
Food, glorious food!
LK, you made out like a bandit!! Marion how generous of you!!! And you gave away your Fons & Porter! They are my fav. quilting instructors.
LK once you decide which pattern for your first full size quilt, please post a pic!
I hope the antibiotics are starting to work for you BJ. Pain is pain, but it's a pain when you don't know what causes it!!
Laura, here are hugs sent your way! Hope you feel better soon. Hot tea with lemon and honey, will soothe that throat.
Judy, how are you my sistah? I know you lurk a lot, so most probably you do keep up with us! We chat enough for you! Hope the weather's there not too grim for you.
Stacey, I am indeed sad over the closing of the coops. Saved a lot of money there, but if admin decided the second go around don't work because of a few complaints... than, that's it. Looks like to get rid of a few rats, they have to burn the house down.
Yep Janice, we've turned into a bunch of fabric enablers and made some quilt store owners happy!!!
Cindy, THANKS!!! I got the fabric. Kel can't believe your kindness again!!! Thank you so much, I'll use them with my Christmas panels!! Love you my sistah!

Those fabric weren't for the swap--colors I don't use much anymore and LK had mentioned she needed some more for her leaf runner. I knew from a quilt block swap with her that those were "her" colors. Just cleaning house sistahs!! Janice the next box of mags has your name on it so when it is full will send.,
BJ I think I found that striped piece at the quilt store here. Would you like for me to go see if they have any more?
Jaye, once I have "devoured" the magazines and taken out what I want to keep, I ususally pass them on!! Gets just to much to store if I didn't.
