Word was out about a year ago that WalMart was taken fabric out of all their stores. In spite of having Joanne's and 2 quilting places, people were really upset!!!
A jelly roll usually has 40 2 1/2 cuts in it. They are grat to work with as are the charm packs. Just watch for the sales!!
2nd.DG Victorian Santa Workshop - Now the fun begins..#4
Morning...Liz you have caught up...santa's starting to come in, all started with same kit but all taking on a different personality..LIZ, with hands on hip, finger pointing no/no/no - mother Betty is going to shake you up...you did so well with not smoking, is that lighter by any chance belonging to you? lol...you are in for it girl! Judy, speak up..she knows better....
Girls, our Walmart which just opened as a superstore last weekend closed their craft dept as well..oh they kept the odd craft but no materials .. so sad...
I do have a Michael's for craft materials in Barrie, then for fabric we have Fabricland which I guess would be similar to Joanne's Fabrics except no crafts..so dwindling for sure the places one can give their $$$ to..is that bad? lol
Good morning/afternoon depending on your location! Gray and raining here with rain and high wind warnings for tonight, and it is bad enough now! Oh well that means a good fire, a cup of tea, put on Dancing With the Stars and continue crafting!
Betty I think it was just a combination of lighting and camera angle on his hands. Since that photo I got some batting placed under to give dimension to the robe, and some lovely trim down the front and around the waist....and I have completed hemming the fur trim around the Shawl.....I am working up the nerve to start with the beard as that is THE Crowning touch. For now I have a branch of greenery with berries, a pine cone and a Cardinal, then I have a temporary staff. These I think will work until I can make or find the items that just say "I was meant for this project!" What I really want to do is get out toward the bay and find a nice old Madrona tree....I think a Madrona branch with it's lovely, smooth finish would make a perfect staff. And of course I still need to make Santa's Goodie Bag!!!
I am learning a great deal from this first experiment.....number one being, I never learned to sew stretchy stuff and I detest this fabric I purchased..... will definitely Upgrade for future projects! Number two is What Fun!!! I want to make More!!! Thank you so much for such a delightful project and solving my "What to Give" question regarding several people on my list this year!!
I'm glad you are enjoying..look forward to seeing waht a madrona tree branch looks like..
Met Suzanne in Hillsdale this morning, got there a little before she, out of the car walking around the field looking for branches...kind of suspicious looking...lol...
You have another head right that you can do?
Betty, I would love to have some more heads!
How many would that be Audrey?
Betty I have two small heads that were included in my kit, and the second kit will hopefully show up soon.............I can easily fabricate all the parts to go with the smaller heads.
Mum saw my Santa, unfinished, this morning and got so excited about it!!
Here is link on the Pacific Madrona

The small branches have a rather slick finish and are a beautiful reddish color.....often you can find them with nice curves and curls to them also.
Wouldn't it look lovely as a staff...
Mibus2.. did you call your hubby to find out if something came from Canada...please say it's there..starting to fret...
Wow...some really fantastic Santa's.
I have to say I really, really enjoy all the different furs!
And materials.
Trisha, so eciting that you want to do more. LOL, me too and I have plenty with different types of material. Last week, when i worked my practice one, it's red like yours, Seeing Betty's blue, I had to go and purchase blue...LOL. Unfortunately is not velvet either, our JoAnnes only has the red velvet and it is insane in cost right now.
My green is velvet and i did add fur like material to it...I am really pleased how it came out.
Lizzz, Love your Velvet! Your Santa is coming out beautiful! Betty, so funny, hands are always on our hips about one thing or another...makes for some fun conversation....UHh, lighter might be DH's, know it's not mine 'cause mines purple, LOL

Judy how come we're not seeing photo's of yours..
OK guys, can't find out where you all posted how to do a group blast??? can someone help..last time I did only 1/2 went through..
Well....I will show mine tonight. Remember he is skinny because I still didn't get a chance to give him a proper belly.
(last night was going to give him an eating binge, buttt...no kids, so Steve and I went out on a cheap date!! LOL.)
You are just too funny Judy..
Bety, I think I could use about 4 more! 'Course, I'd have to find the hair!
I'll see how much hair I have left..
Betty, go to the blue tab and click on "MY INFO". Then click "Manage your friends & group" Have your list of dg names and the name of your group. It could be Santa part #4 or something of that nature so that it won;t be the same as your last name of the group. Then you'll go from there to write your dmail by choosing the new group you just entered.
By the way, I got that 2nd kit and I'll get the money in the mail to you. I'm going to do a santa for my mama. That worked out great for me.
OH Good Thread watching!!! Betty, That was from Deborah, posted in Sweet interuptions # 54! LOL, I think she meant to post it here and was reading and thinking she was here. OH my gosh,SI threads are posting in 3 different one today...Holy smoley!!
Talking about da ja vu. Scared the heebeejees out of my JUDY! I though oh me and Judy have a metal telethapy going on here. Woozers! Thanks Judy. My thread watcher is full and I've been reading each one then swtiching over to read another then posting on the wrong ones thinking I'm on another. Can we spell c-o-n-f-u-s-ed??? ROFOLO!!!!!
ROFLOL, Deborah...SI has # different ones going on, LOL, in case you are Confused the Sistahs are in #55 now.
Good to see you got your other package, great gift for your mum!!
HE IS GEORGIOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love it, I hope mine comes out half as nice as that.
He is gorgeous. I would be interested to know how you did the shawl/hood. Did you do it by Betty's directions?
Thanks^_^The next one should go better, I learned from a lot of mistakes on this one!!!
I'm fretting Judy, what 2nd kit..can you tell me what's in it..surely I wouldn't have posted it to you rather than Mibus...hurry/hurry please and let me know????
OMG Trisha, he's absolutely gorgeous...now again tell me about the fur??? bet your are pleased as punch, as you should be???? must go back and check, did you purchase a 2nd kit, or it the 2nd one you are making from the extra face????
Tomorrow what I'll do is start a thread for photo's ONLY so we can enjoy the creativity and will start another thread for the continuation of our workshop..I'm just so
excited.....
bit confused on the posts above though..lol..it's bath time, meds and early to bed..maybe tomorrow all will make sense...
Shuggins, I just took the shawl piece (11 x 22) and put a tiny hem around the edges. I took 4 piece of the fur twice as wide as I wanted the finished trim to be......Placed the shawl edge on one edge of the trim and stitched it down, then folded it in half and stitched it down on the opposite side so that if you look at the front you see Fur and if you look at the back you will see fur and not the back of the fabric. Then I took the shawl with the long direction going across and found the center.....then I put a spot of glue under the edge to hold it in place. I got the ends draped over his arms to sort of form sleeves and tacked the bottom corners together with a spot of glue to keep it in place. About as clear as mud huh? I have never been very good at giving directions!!
That's what we do as well Trisha except for the fur..a little out of my league when providing all the materials for the girls, always an option for them to do later...
You did me proud girl..
Sometimes I worry that I'll lead you all astray with some of my projects...
Oh my!!! Absolutely beautiful Trisha. Guess I had better get onto mine!!
Betty today is veterans day so there was no mail delivery today ...please relax and don't fret I'm not upset at all
I am though...so wanted everyone to have them so we can get them all made...by the looks of things there will be some happy crafters...and recipients if some are given for Christmas gifts...
Put a couple of ideas for priceless gifts to make..budgets tight? might meet your needs...
find it on the Best/Worse and What did I learn today thread...

Betty This is made from my first kit....this is the large face....and there were two small faces... I ordered two kits but the second one has not arrived yet.
What is the Fur question ? Here is photo of what I had to purchase at JoAnn's to get the trim pieces I wanted. I wanted the fabric or trim that looks like real fur.....not one store in this town had anything except the white.....all of the dark colors looked like very cheap teddy bears!!! This one remnant was in a box by the office and they wouldn't sell it to me that evening.....I had to drive back up the following day in order to purchase it and then they had not put my name on it and left it at customer services as I was told they would do!!! It was still sitting back in the office. This fabric has lines like an old fur jacket so I just off two lines, fold it on the center line with the fabric sandwiched in between and stitched it down.
Fabulous buy, reason I asked is a few of the ladies if you remember correctly had some fur or mink from family coats and wanted to add it to the santa's and give them as heirloom gifts..thought perhaps yours was one of them..
Trisha, same as with Phyllis, if pkg hasn't arrived by Thurs. I'll ship another puralator- couple day delivery...
Know there is a runnaway reindeer somewhere on USA side as tracking numbers have said they've crossed over..lol
Betty, do you have any extra kits left? Seriously, that doesn't mean you will make more---just some left from this swap! If so, I would like to get some more. The gift idea is sounding better and better since I happen to remember my best friend in Gainesville collects Santas.
Will be making more this week as I need about 10 for Sat. and about 15 for next weekend so can always do a few more..
If you want one I'll post on Friday as I'm off early and will have the car so can do it from Toronto which is great, saves about 3 or 4 days in shipping time..
If you truly do want one, it will be in the mail..
Judy, yep, needs some fattening..but I also think that when you are doing others, make the robe a little longer as it's suppose to fit over the base (so base is not showing) and that way it gives him the appearance of being fuller....
Are you sure you cut the robe to size? like the red..and you did an awesome job of the beard, that's the part I was worrying about...
Now take a strand of the wave hair, put a tad of glue in the middle, glue to the center just under his nose to make a mustache...
Are you sure it won't put you short? If not, I truly would like to have another kit. Will put check in mail tomorrow. Wasn't really having my act together when we ordered what with my MOm's fall and then my brother's death.
Dawned on me today I should have gotten 2 kits instead of the one. Sorry.
I don't know about runaway Reindeer but I am thoroughly disgusted with the U.S. Postal Service these past few months......however, don't know if the Changes at the first of the year will have any bearing on our Postal Service (or should it be Lack of Service)???
If the other kit doesn't show up soon please contact me before you send another.
