CUTTING:

We all decided that it would be easier if all doing the project could pick up their own material, cut and have it sewn as to enable a stress free project day...lol

So, the next step is the cutting...

ROBE/DRESS

1 piece - 14” by 35" (when using 36" width)

or

1 piece - 14" by 45 ( when using 45" width)

Sleeves:

2 pieces - 10" by 18" pieces (when using 36" width)

or

2 pieces - 10" by 22 1/2" (when using 45" width)

Collar/Shawl:

1 piece 18” by 11”

Victoria Harbour, ON

SEWING:

With the larger piece 14" by 35 or the 14" by 45"
Fold the 14" pieces together to create the skirt...

Now taking the skirt in hand and putting the seam in the middle, from the top down approx 3 or 4" slit each side (used for inserting arms later)

Then either hand sew/glue or machine sew creating an inner fold...just to tidy up the edges...

You now can see the two armholes...

Along the front top piece - gather with strong thread and leave a 4" or 5" of thread for gathering...

Do same on the upper back piece....

Victoria Harbour, ON

Arms.... these are the 2 - 10" by 18" or if using widder material 2 - 10 x 22 1/2 pieces you want to do the following:

On each sleeve...

sew the folded piece which the 10" border is together to create the sleeve...

Turn one edge in approx. 1/4" either by gluing/hand sewing or machine sewing...

You must gather both top of sleeve and bottom cuff...remember strong thread is important...

When you are gathering the bottom cuff, do it on the good side of your material and just above the 1/4"

IF you've sewn your sleeves correctly they will look like the sleeve shown on the right... the one on the left is incorrect...

Shawl/Hood

You will need to cut 1 piece - 18" by 11"

Simply turn in each of the 4 edges in about 1/4"

Are we all this far??? Any problems we can help you with....

Victoria Harbour, ON

I'm so pleased that your kit (most of you have received, others will arrive shortly) has arrived...

You will note that there is batting, sorry most of the kits I could not fit batting in, it can be purchased at any material shop .. if you do not have any and because so little is needed perhaps you can just purchase 1/4 yard OR try and find a friend who may have some....

I don't have my kit yet, but I am following you so far!
Excellent teacher we have here!

Oh just giddy with fun...
I am right on up to the nail in the dowel, lol still have to tap that in.
Oh and I need to gather the hemmed part of the sleeve. Betty do we gather it tight or just loose like the upper part?

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I got my kit today!!!!! ^_^ Let the fun begin, How many more need to recieve thier kit?
LK

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

waaaaahhhhhh LK got hers today ...rofl.......just called DH to see what came in mail and it wasn't in it ...so still waiting here *S*

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

MOM hurry up and get home so I can check the mail ours might be there also.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Although there was a glitch in finding a few envelopes in Suzanne's trunk yesterday they are ALL in the mail..Suzanne said she paid extra postage so that these can catch up with the others...no many left...

Then what we AS A GROUP have to decide is:

Do we want to continue as we have been following the steps at our own pace or do we want to try and find a date or two just incase some may not make the first one???

If we decide to continue posting step by step, then once done we could all post our photo's...

This is YOUR workshop project, YOUR choice...you tell me how you wish to further proceed......

Victoria Harbour, ON

Have to ask, haven't seen JoJoringer on for awhile...hope she's ok..

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

mom checked the mail nope nothing there.

Houston, TX(Zone 9b)

I would rather have the steps posted, so I can work at my own pace, but will certainly go along with what everyone else decides.

Thanks!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Vote #1..thanks

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

what shugg said, I would like to have the posts all in one place.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Make that three. All in one place, so we can follow it easier.
LK

Victoria Harbour, ON

Girls it wasn't having the posts in one place, lol, question is:

Would you rather work at your own leisure and me post step by step or would you rather we ALL get together on a specific date and do the project....

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

I like working at my own pace.

Glenview, IL

LOL...

Betty, I love working as a GROUP
isn't that why we are having a workshop.

Besides not everyone has there kit.
just my opinion. ...LOL
.BUT
I am game for majority of vote...so undecicve i can be.

Houston, TX(Zone 9b)

For anyone that has ordered additional heads and needs the body, this website has all the parts together and they look just like the parts that Betty sent us. It might be easier than looking for all the part individually...

http://www.diandolls.com/doll_bodies_standing.htm

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

I'll go with what ever the group decides....

Betty, in answer to you're question about jojo......we have all sent her cards...no response...several of the ladies who know her well have tried to call.....so far she hasn't returned their calls....now they are sending her some letters and we will see if they get an answer. She was my first swap buddy ........but she had home and computer problems shortly after I joined DG so I really don't know her other than reading back threads.....I really wish she would contact someone!!!! It really bothers me when someone just suddenly stops communicating with friends....DG or otherwise.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

It may be hard to get us all here at once, so maybe at our pace, and as we all get the kits? LK

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

whatever everyone else decides is fine by me

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

at least where we are suppose to be when we all start as a group, and have all the things we need to start.

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Although I said as my own pace but I will go with the group also. Like Linda Kay, things are getting busy around here with the festival starting to get into full swing with the planning.

Victoria Harbour, ON

It's early morning thought I'd drop in for a few seconds...

How about this...

Let's wait till Saturday to see if all the kits have arrived and we'll set up a date , could be during the week, and as many as who can join in will, the others will have all the photo's available for reference and of course I'll be at the computer each and every day at work to answer questions.....

It truly does go together easily, the hair is a bit fiddly, you have to be ever so gentle with working with it, but apart from that easy as 1-2-3

Sounds like a plan right...

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

yep sounds like a plan to me

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Sounds good here also.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Morning Betty, that sounds real good. We will all be ready, when you start posting.
By the way, my kit did not have a nail, but the package was torn a bit, so it probably fell out. No problem, we have them here for easy replacement.
LK

Victoria Harbour, ON

Linda Kay just as long as it's headless (lol) and about 4" so that there is enough of the nail that when you insert the head it will support it...

That's the plan then...we'll wait until Friday to see which pkgs. have yet to arrive...

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

So like a very good plan from this point. Have a good day!!
