Okay seasoned "over winterers", I have a question. This is my first year ever bringing plants inside, to a greenhouse....I watered each plant well before taking inside, like what, 2 weeks ago? And each pots soil is still extremely moist, even with the heat and lights on them. They are thriving, I just can't believe the soil is still so wet and they don't need watering. Is this normal not to really have to water the plants much when they are in for winter?

South Coast, RI(Zone 6b)

The Orchid Moss is sphagnum moss; the only difference I could find is the OM pkg. said it was sterile.

here's what my brother just sent me in an e-mail:

CALMNESS IN OUR LIVES

I am passing this on to you because it definitely works, and we could all use a little more calmness in our lives. By following simple advice heard on the Dr .Phil show, you too can find inner peace. Dr Phil proclaimed, 'The way to achieve inner peace is to finish all the things you have started and have never finished.' So, I looked around my house to see all the things I started and hadn't finished, and before leaving the house this morning, I finished off a bottle of White Zinfandel, a bottle of Bailey's Irish Cream, a package of Oreos, the remainder of my old Prozac prescription, the rest of the cheesecake, some Doritos, and a box of chocolates. You have no idea how freaking good I feel right now. Pass this on to those whom you think might be in need of inner peace.

South Coast, RI(Zone 6b)

Priceless ^_^

(Phyllis) Osceola, PA(Zone 5b)

Karen as far as I know it's normal
Cause a GH has a different enviorment then outside
the the air stays moister..So things don't dry out as fast
And the plants enjoy it much more...
Now I heat with wood so my air is drier...

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

well... I was sooo glad ya'll didn't have me an hour of chatter to read through.. not that I would be complaining,..lol I luv to read it all.. Been to take Momma to the DR and boy was he mad... he agrees with me that the NH isn't giving Momma the water AMNY person would need to keep them hydrated.. says the infection won't ever go away till she gets the water she needs... but then... the NH... how they like to turn everything around, and Momma doesn't eat or drink for anyone like she does me... I just don't believe all they want me to believe..

Chantell.. so are you our official sniffer then??
Donna... glad the chiro helped and you found an outfit.. I never can find anything when I need it..lol.. lucky you!

I wrote this a couple hours ago.. sooo this is old news.. I'll catch up and write more in a bit..lol/

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

Thank you Phyllis....I was a little worried because I've never experienced plants that don't need frequent watering...This is all new to me!

(Tammie) Odessa, TX(Zone 7b)

OK, AuntB.. step by step.. how did you start those cuttings.. did you bubbler them first in water then into the moss or just moss.. did you soak the moss to get it wet or just put it in the cups and pour water in to moisten it.. do you spray water to wet or pour water to moisten.. ??? questions, questions, questions.. I want to know what you are doint to get those wonderful brug cuttings growing.. I have cuttings coming and lots of that moss sitting here in packages.. flourescent lights set up I'm ready and waiting for your leadership here! ..... start talking! LOL

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

I just ent down and checked for dryness and everything in the little room is dry under the lights about three ft, and the plants in the big space are all still wet.. yay! does anyone want to see anymore pics of me and Bonnie mini ru?
hi Donna.. Phllis that is a hoot.. gohllyy if only I could finish what I started.. I still have three people to mail seeds out too..
and a whole house to cl#@n, and a dog to bathe and dishes and well u know I am just sitting here enjoying my time so what now?

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Seale, AL(Zone 8b)

Please, I love looking at the pics.

Palestine, TX(Zone 8b)

Good questions Tammie. I will be waiting for the answers. I have mine in moss right now, but I didn't bubble them first. I put them in water and darn near drowned the poor things.

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

Well first my head is spinning from all of the posts!

Second, my brugs looked pittyfull, I brought them all in made cuttings where all of the buds were suppossed to be and I was devastated, guess they will make it alright. The mandevillas were ok, trimmed them and all of the cacti came in. What an exausting day! I survived now I do not have to worry about having my children die outside. The problem comes now, need to baby them indoors.

I have to be honest and have not caught up, tried to read, but impossible to replied to all. However I am sending my love to all, Clem

Donna.. I was wondering if the sphagnum moss would work as well.. I have a bunch on trees around here.. My uncle loved the stuff.. course it's not sterile
Phyllis.. glad you staraightened that out, since I have never had a GH.. I would have been thinking like Karen!
Karen.. glad you took the BW off the brugs... I would hate to see them die

well.. mine are going back out tomorrow!!.. Like Karen we are getting about the same temps. Hopefully we will go with the man that came to give us a bid today on the GH. He also has some windows just like ours, and he said he would give me enough to finish it out...YAY.. I want windows all around on the 4 sides!! He has DR appts next week and Lyle goes to Houston next week for the pain pump implant, so he said he could get started the next week.. maybe now it will become a reality!!

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

Becky I'm SO happy for you that progress is being made on your dream greenhouse! How exciting that you're finally going to get one!

Clemen bless your heart, I know how tiring that is to bring the plants inside. Ella that goulash sounds good, I made some earlier this week. Made that chili last night and Jerry still has heartburn, LOL!

Well all, I'm wimping out for another night. Really bad sinus headache again and my chest hurts. I hope I'm not going to get down with this stuff, I usually do every October or November. I'm already taking meds to try and ward it off!

Have a wonderful nite with sweet dreams all of you! Love you bunches dear Hotties and Handsomes!

Nashville, TN(Zone 6b)

You Hotties are too fast for this old Southern Hottie. I can't keep up.
lilsista... Thank you, I have been working on that Calmness in my life. Second glass of wine here. What a Great Idea, Sending up Hottie cheers for Phil Baby.

My GH does stay very humid. Don't have to water near as much as the plants in the basement. Also get more mold in the GH.

Here is a picture of "Doodle" one of my Fur babies in her Halloween Costume (She was not impressed) She is a Spider.....Spooky

Oh, gosh.. Debra, Where's one with you in it? and thx about DD, Thx Karen ;) Nite, feel better..And Becky, I'm just thrilled for you and your greenhouse!..it's a dream come true! Get that man feeling better and you can fill it up! :) I just had extra stuff... she sure laid it out nice;) ((Debra)) ...it was just nice of Debra to take it off my hands. We had a grand time. Clemen, sore Clemen.. zzz deary. (couldn't even hang around long enough to defend her pointy hat ;) JK OXO feel better. Waiting for my "sore" to wear off so I can start organizing better for more proficiency with the recipe and water.... with a path.. or 2? Thanks, hotties'.. it's called utilizing the space available..it's a walk-out basement/garage.."easier" than lugging up and down stairs.. my kids would probably refuse.. ;)

about Ella's cutting... looks like a cut that has been damp.. spritz it with H202 and sprinkle with cinnamon.. or just the recipe, if you have any mixed up. I've seen it before, more like a mold than disease, I believe... anyone? wanna comment? lurker? Maybe someone posted something like that out on the brug forum..?

Palestine, TX(Zone 8b)

Yikes! Doodle scared me. Looks like a giant tarantula. My boys wouldn't be impressed either. They hate wearing their sweaters.
