Susan, your streps are simply beautiful. Many ooohs and aaahs on my part as I looked at your photos. I can't wait for the leaves I have down to grow into plants. I know it will be many months from now. Where do you buy your plants? Anyone one place? Or, here there and everywhere? Tell me how you care for your plants. What do you feed them? Do you hand water?

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Susan................how beautiful...............what can I say! Tell us the answers to Heidi's questions, please...............but they will come back in mass with blooms even better.

I have a plant that never has had but one leaf.....I kept cutting it back thinking it would produce more leaves..........since Cape Essence is going to remain one leaf.........I cut a piece and put it in a four inch pot so I could get the whole leaf to curl around and see how many babies I can get (lol)

Hey ladies,Look what I found this morning...Jan who can't grow a strep leave to save my life, finally did it.And I checked the leaves that Jim sent to me and 50 percent of them are rooted..I'm doing the happy dance this morning..This is a big deal for me.LOL.

jannich, I am thrilled for you. I do know what a battle this has been for you!!! Just keep thinking about your house full of streps!

Jasper, AR(Zone 7a)

Congrats--OK I'm jealous--but I keep hoping!!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Never give up on starting streps. It took me forever to get the hang of it..........just keep trying and use a very light mix with lots and lots of perlite so that when you dome them , the leaves don't rot.

Andalusia, AL(Zone 8b)

Thank you! it sure has been a battle for me.Depressing is more the word.LOL
,I did a experiment with Jim's leave.Half in the perlite/vermiculite like you do and the other half in straight perlite.Your way is you do it is rooted and the perlite ones aren't rooted yet but they didn't rot yet..My house looks like a science lab.I'm even trying to grow the leaves in the bags again and in water again.Somethings got to give.LOL.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I am actually having some trouble myself. I stuck some leaves in pots with perlite in the bottom and my regular mix on the top..........some of them are rotting. So, I changed everything.............and am now using those 38 inserts with perlite on the bottom and I added a lot perlite to my mix..........those are doing great.

Isn't it a hit and miss on the leaves? At least with straight perlite, nothing rots and you can water all you want....................so happy you have rooted some.........you know you can take the top off once they are rooted and then they don't rot for sure...........

Jasper, AR(Zone 7a)

Everything I put in straight perlite rotted :( Which really IS depressing-- I usually can grow almost anything- Well I did slowly kill a bunch of AV's but it was the first time I had tried them since I moved from California--(thinking maybe temp was an issue). I am trying the streps in metro-mix 360 now. Cross your fingers for me!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Metro mix is wonderful but I hope they don't rot...............I have never had a mix that didn't need a lot of perlite mixed with it.............I am currently using the wicking mix from Volkmanns and it still needs perlite.............

Jasper, AR(Zone 7a)

I am wishing I had added perlite--I will next go 'round--IF I go 'round again. LOL I know I will-- but not for a while on streps if these don't go.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

heavens no..........don't quit..............dmail me and I will help you with some more leaves...............never say quit! (LOL)

Andalusia, AL(Zone 8b)

I forgot to show you ladies my real blooming beauties..LoL.Take a peek.

Jasper, AR(Zone 7a)

Cute chicken!!--(LOL --I know it is NOT a chicken--but in my house-- anything with feathers is a "chicken"-- I have 2 green ones ^_^) Did you raise them?

Jasper, AR(Zone 7a)

This is my surprise "October Bloom", I didn't think my Chihuahua was pregnant--til she had 1 chubby pup.

Loving these animals and birds!

Thanks guys! I enjoyed this thread...and learned a couple of things along the way. I am coveting S. amizade since I saw one a couple of months ago. I love the wine glass idea-gonna try it. All your pics are beautiful, but I could not see the thrip.Since I switched to neem oil a couple of years ago or so, I've only had occasional fungus gnats --no other varmints...knock on wood! Here's a pic of my latest flower--His name is COLUMBUS. I've never posted a pic on this forum before, so bear with me. This is a webcam pic

Hi All,
I am sorry for not putting names on the flowers but by the time I get in here to type and resize them I forget what they are...LOL I do nothing special to my plants... I use peters fert. 20-20-20 I feed everytime I water... They are now on wicking watering. I also talk to them allot as they don't answer me back... :-) Other then that not allot...
I have a few more pictures to post but will do that later.. I am waiting until my meds kick in as today was work.... I love the pretty babies... Is the last one a rabbit? I can die from them so I am glad it is only a picture...LOL
Ok will be back later....
Susan

Oh my goodness ... such gorgeous blooms and critters too! Love it! I am an animal lover with four old cats in the family right now. Hope to have a puppy again some day ... no birds though, I don't have the patience for them. My DH used to have an Indian Ring Neck Parrot, a very mean bird (towards me!) He was a one person (DH) bird and would bite me if I got near him! And, LOUD! That bird was sooo loud! Hubby always wanted a Cockatoo but after seeing how loud the small parrot was I said no way. So, we just have the four kitties and a 150 gal salt water aquarium.

Oh ... and "Little Lucy Lizard" who resides in one of my terrariums.
