Tinky, those are beautiful. Want to share with your Auntie? LOL. Very nice gifts indeed.

Linda Kay, no problem, I am sending some scraps to Deborah, and I will gather you a collection in the colors requested. I will definitely include the pieces left from the block I made for you.

Hello Judy, glad everything was good at the memorial. Good to have you dropping in with us. Ah, come on, you don't forget quilting things. Grab something and join us.

So sorry Jaye, didn't mean to hijack your thread with quilting. I will behave now!!!

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Hi Judy! Stop by anytime.. we miss seeing you!
What chicks LK? We got kittens on steroids!!
Stacey, you are one much loved child!
Marion, this thread is for all sistahs, and that means you too!!! Puhleez, don't refrain yourself from expressing all you want here.....on ANYTHING. As for quilting, that's my passion too ^_^
Hiya Twyla. So good to see you here. How have your health been holding up?
OK.. back to the Rowenta!

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Dang, I get off to sew on my rag quilt a bit, and you guys talk so much it takes me forever to catch up... sheesh.

Yes, Kim... I could use the pumps... thank you so much.

Nice b'day gifts you got there, Fairy Fingers... I love the sun bird house.. quite unique.

Jaye, I can't wait to see your PINK quilt your making... how nice of you to make something so nice for a neighbor child... you're such a special sistah.

CUZ... new eggs hatching this week?...

Where's Audrey? Last I heard she was buying flannel to make a rag purse... that was days ago. Wonder how she's doing with that....

Cool idea about sewing the webbing onto your applique... but wouldn't the webbing melt when you go to press the seams down before you set it in place? Or am I mis understanding?

Ok... got 29 blocks made... got 72 in all to make... you do the math...

Also watching Naked Archeologist... love that show.

Glenview, IL

HI...OMGeesh, had some time to kill waiting for Jacob,my son...Anyways, stopped at JoAnnes checked out some quilting books...
Definatley somethin I can relate too...my eyeballs were huge at possiblities...heheheh.
Yikes, I think supplies are expensive!! Might have to do it old fashioned way, with scissors...

Oh goodness, Fairy, your pressies are wonderful, Luckky you! Enjoy enjoy.

Bj and Linda Kay, saw an aplique kind of thing in one of the books with webbing, pretty cool. You have fun with it.
...I like the tecnique...LOL just as Betty described! I guess you could imagine how giddy I was reading and going oh now I get that, right in the store....Hmmmm, thinking about my Fairy book! as stated was for painting but can easly be done as a quilt right?
Scratching head now....have to think about that one!

LOL, Oh man you turned somethin loose in me, poor poor DH!

hehehe.

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

Judy, their talk about quilting and appliques has my brain churning with ideas too. Only problem is I'd have to do all the sewing by hand. No machine here. Had one when I first got married cause my daddy said all women need a sewing machine. Yea, he's from the old school. Well I never could get the hang of the tension which kept breaking the thread and needles. I never got to sew a thing on that machine and it went to a garage sale. I will try the rag quilt, the rag purse and of course the Victorian Santa. If all three of these goes well for me, maybe Santa will drop a machine down my chimney. Cross your fingers for me. Ya hoo! I'm excited about sewing now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Yep, Deborah.. if you get a new machine... you'll be so surprised at how easy they are now a days... they even adjust their own tension automatically... and auto thread the needle, and wind the bobbin for you too.

BUT... how are you going to sew a rag quilt by hand? you'll be sewing no less than 6 layers of fabric together at one time... that would be terribly hard to do by hand.

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

Rut-row Elroy. Hummmm. Could I do 3 and 3 then sew those together? I don't know, I just liked the one I saw Debra had and now I want to do one. May have to wait until I get a machine, huh?

Glenview, IL

Deborah, Fingers, arms, legs, eyes and anything else i can cross!! Hope you get that sewing machine...Mine gets lots of dust, lol but You know, I sort of love doing things the old fashoned way...I love that rag quilt...looks easy enough to try.So, I hope you do and enjoy it. I made a table covering that I thought wow, I think I just pieced a quilt...LOL only no batting. But I had lots of fun making it...

When you do get that machine from good ol Santa...We'll walk you through the tension thing...LOL, object is , never ever change it from facory setting...heheh, but once you "get" the concept, it's easy...

I am really excited about the Victorian Santa too!

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

BJ, you can't use the fusible web it will melt. You should use the lightest weight interfacing you can find. I use the fusing (Stitch Witchery--I think is the name) when I am doing a satin stitch edging otherwise use the non stick interfacing to do as Betty was saying. Did that help? However, for better results and no puckering use the Stitch and tear underneath the block/square you are appliquing the pattern to. Then tear it away when finished.

Oh Jaye, my hat is off to you doing a pink quilt. That is one color that does me in really quickly in mass quantities. I can tons of reds easier than pink--it just bothers me ole eyes.

Deborah, Judy is right--don't get "hung up" on the tensions. Try to keep them as close to factor settings as possible. It is also very important to keep the lint and threads cleaned out, the machine oiled and change needles often. A dull needle will certainly make a mess of things!!!

OHG! BJ I didn't know my son was on a television program: The Naked Archeologist!!! Well he is an archeologist anyways.

Will be late getting online tomorrow ladies, it is Grandparent's Day at the school and I will be attending pre K with the youngest. This should be very interesting indeed.

Have a great night and will chat tomorrow.

Oh Jaye, Project Runway--one of the finalist is from Tallahassee. Right?

Ferndale, AR(Zone 7b)

Uh hum ..... SOME of them thread themselves and wind the bobbin for you. Not mine! Mine is a basic Kenmore. Think I paid around $199 for it. Does what I need at this point, although there are much easier ways of doing same. Some day ........ maybe Santa will send me one of those fancy ones that hum along, have one step button holes, thread themselves, wind bobbins, do embroidery, etc. Big sigh .... But, I will admit it is so much easier to use than the ones I learned on. Lordy, the tension was never right on those.

Betty, your applique technique is brilliant. Makes me want to try it asap. I've learned so much from this thread already. Just imagine what they teach in actual quilting classes!

Stacey, did you go to the link I sent you????????? It was special - just for you!

Judy, I'm sorry but missed who's memorial you attended. Did you travel far?

BJ, what size blocks are you making? Sounds like a nice sized quilt. Is this the one for your son?

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Ok, I have another sewing question? What is stitch and tear?

Good night everyone.
LK

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

It is an interfacing type material that is used for appliquing. You either pin a piece or baste a piece of it under the back side of the block you are doing the applique on. When you are finished you turn the block over and tear the excess away leaving on the reinforced stitched area. Helps avoids puckering with appliques especially if a satin or thick stitch is being used. Did that help? It is available at fabric stores and yes, Wally Mart.

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Debra... each 9 sq block measures 9"... total size of the quilt will be 80" wide x 90" long for a queen size quilt with a 10" drop on 3 sides, no extra at the head of the bed. I'll have 7 sq across, and 8 sq long... guess I miss figured... that's really 56 blocks... sheesh... I need to go back to school... guess I'm closer than I thought to finishing piecing...
Then I'll set them together with 3" strips...

I fought it for years with my old 1965 model Singer... it works fine, and I really couldn't justify replacing it... until Don surprised me with the new Singer Quantum XL 5000 for my birthday a couple years ago... BOY, oh BOY... what a difference that made in my frustrations... yep, it even adjusts its own tension... I don't know how it knows what fabric I'm using, but somehow, someway it just knows what to set the tension for. It winds the bobbin for me without taking the bobbin out of the casing.. it threads the needle for me... and yep, even one touch perfect button holes...

I still have my old machine... but it's gathering dust right now...

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Ok, I will have to go and look for some.
Thanks.
BJ, hope you got most of your sons banking stuff straightened out! I know it is a hassle.
last year at Christmas time, he went online to order some Christmas lights. During the credit card processing, it ask for the 3 digit security code from the back of the card. I thought it was unusuall, but he put it there anyways. Two days later he was checking his online back account because it was payday, and he noticed a transaction for $900.00. he ask me what I spent the money on, and I told him I did not have his card for spending. So he called the bank, and while he was on the phone, another $900.00 transaction was trying to go through. He told then it was not him, so they froze the transaction and his account. Who ever it was, got his info from the Christmaslights.com web site, and was sending the $900.00 at a time through western union to someone in Italy! We had to file fraud charges, and a Sherriff report. His bank account was messed up for a few days, but he got all his money back, and a new bank account!!!
So I guess there are creeps like that everywhere. Just gotta be real careful!
Good nite everyone. Take care.
LK

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Yep... can't be too careful these days, LK... it's just awful how creative criminals are getting.

Deborah... to answer your question... NO... you can not sew 3 then 3... eventually you have to sew two of those squares together... each being 3 layers of fabric... one layer of cotton on top, one layer of flannel in the center, and one layer of cotton on bottom... would be difficult to sew with a needle and thread by hand... for sure.

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

I think Deborah needs a good basic sewing machine under the tree this year.

good night all.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I need some computer help.. I just went to my favorite tab at the top, to look for my craft section, and everything in my favorites is gone. Nothing there. How did this happen, and where could it have gone?
Can it be restored?
LK

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Ah Oh... that's not good LK... I have no clue about that... but, I sure hope somebody does...

Keeping my fingers crossed for Deborah to get a sewing machine under her Christmas tree.

edited to say.... "NIGHT NIGHT MARION !!!"

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

LK, try rebooting your pc. If that don't work, google on why your favorites missing.
Sistah Deborah, truly truly hope you get a sewing machine pretty soon. No fun sewing by hand all those layers of flannel.
BJ, I chose the Quantum 9920 with automatic tension...etcetra etcetra etcetra but no auto bobbin rewind. Have it for 3 years now, and no complains. Singer has regain back its' reputation.

Almost got a 'quilting special" Pfaff, but this Quantum was half the price of that Pfaff. :D
Though I still use my Pfaff Hobbymatic, which I purchased on eBay 8 years ago to replace my 25 year old Necchi/Kenmore mechanical.
Dreaming of getting an old Singer Featherweight, or that Husqvarna that's waaaaaaaaaaaaayyy beyond my means! Guess sewing machines to me are like sports cars to aging men!!

Judy, Judy, Judy.....you do absolutely amazing embroidery work!
This room here has this core of very talented sistahs, and all willing to share their knowledge.
I'm off to bed everyone. Sleep well!

Glenview, IL

Oh gosh...minutes left....

Happy Anniversary BJ & Don...Many, many more.

good night everyone.

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Oh Cindy, sounds like me.....window open fan going, DH under the heavy blankets
and thats when the dog and cat sandwich me in and want to cuddle up!!....guess it's because I am warm...LOL!

BJ and Don have a wonderful anniversary sitting on that beach under the palm trees!
Hope you get everything sorted out for your son.

It has been a very long day and have reached the point that neither my eyes nor my brain are focusing....

Good night all, talk to ya tomorrow.

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

My gosh-chatty:)

Debra-I forgotted:( I was so busy I only got on to post pics and spaced it:( I WILL look today when I get home-wrapping a paper clip around my finger to remind me:)

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Happy Birthday niece!
Email yourself a note, so that way you don't have to torture your lil finger with a darn paper clip!
Phyllis has rightly been quite tardy with coffee, lately! No problem m'am... instant coffee for everyone! Hope you all like croissants.
Trisha, Kel's abnormal. His body temp is like 10 degrees above mine. So you know what that means.. when I'm freezing cold and need some heavy covers, he'd be kicking them off! So, to remedy that, I had to resort to dual control electric blanket.

Here's wishing you all a wonderful Thursday.

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

Morning Tante Jate!! Thanks!! DH is like that too-his body is like a furnace!!!!!!!!!

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

ok, here is what marion sent me. she is soooo good to me

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Morning Sis! And why shouldn't Marion be good to you?? You're a wonderful woman. Oooh, another cookbook to your collection. Pretty roosters. You need to turn that seasoning so we can see what label it is.
Stacey, aren't we the lucky ones? Besides the heat, they're gassy too
:*(

Catch you all later ladies!

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

ROFL!! Maybe the 2 are connected-you think Jaye??

Kathy-what a nice gift Marion sent you!! How did she know you'd like it;)LOL

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

haven't a clue:)

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Morning everyone. Nice and cool here this morning. About 63 degrees.
Kathy, please tell us what is in the jar, seasoning?
Happy Birthday week Stacey. Hope it has been good to you so far. I bet you are really getting excited about going to Frankemouth on Friday to meet up with Betty? Can't wait to see some of the pictures.
I have been loooking at the singer sewing machine, that you all have been talking about, and boy do they look nice. I think I will put in my wish list with Santa. Please keep talking about them, so I can figure out what they do or do not do.
Ladies be good, stay out of trouble, and post when you can
LK

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

the bottle is everglades sesoning

Fostoria, OH(Zone 5a)

Morning! Here I am stuck at work when I would rather be chatting with you all. PLEASE pass something to eat! I have my own cuppa but need sugar to get through the morning.

We have cool and damp here and that means the knees hurt in the morning. Once we settle into winter I will get used to it but we have had warm so this is the first I've felt it for a while. Hope I can keep up with Stacey and Betty on our trek around Frankenmuth tomorrow and Saturday. They are both real go-getters. Type A's all they way!

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

Morning Ladies,

All your talk about quilts makes me want to try and make a king size one, but mine would mostly be borders.

Kathy, now you know why Marion hollered at you not to get that rooster, LOL.

Rick is so thin blooded that sometimes in the night I wake up and I'm on the edge of the bed and he is snuggled like a bug right up against me. I'm like a magnet, and he is drawn to me. I told him I was going to sleep in the other room. He said he would just follow me.

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

LOL Cindy-I think if both of you was one way or the other there would be more of an issue-I think that is how things balance out-one hot and one cold:)

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Kathy, is the rooster a cookie jar? He is so cute?

Does anyone know about computers. All my favorites have dissapeared. But when I find the site, and go to save it, it aks me what folder I want to save them in? Then I get a notice that the folder does not exist???
Who do I contact for help?
Linda Kay

Fostoria, OH(Zone 5a)

KING SIZE, good luck, Cindy. I am working on a king size duvet cover for Stacey and believe me it is a lot of material! I don't have the room to lay all of that out. Went to the local quilt store to use their tables and that was a help. Quilting is somewhat easier if you can work on small stuff first and then put it together.

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

the rooster is a measuring spoon holder. his tailfeathers are the spoons

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

Well you see Janice I have a panel for the middle that is 36x45 so there won't be a lot for me to do.... I hope LOL

Ferndale, AR(Zone 7b)

Good morning! Just popped in for a quick cup of coffee before packing up and heading to the craft shows. Didn't wake up until after 7:30 this morning - so won't get away as soon as planned but there's no schedule. Surely did need the sleep after waking so early the past few days.

Cute roosters, Stacey! Have fun this weekend with Betty and give her plenty of hugs for us.

Judy, thanks for the dmail.

Enjoy your day BJ. Great idea for a 'day off'.

Deborah definitely needs a sewing machine.

Better get off the 'puter and get my rear in gear. Later!

Debra
