(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Thank you everyone...
Yep... we'll finally get to actually use that gazebo for what we intended it to be... a vacation place...

But, now I need to go get my son's situation taken care of today....

BBL

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

Good luck BJ:)

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Night sweats? Humm, no power surges--just each having your own private vacation in the tropics!!! Nope, nada, not here--been there , done that, stopped!!! Even went through it with DH when he was on female hormones as part of the the treatment for cancer.

Now, Kathy, I love all the Sistahs here but you were so kind to understand about DD and I having to cancel our wonderful trip to your house. I had much rather have gone to Bessemer believe me!!!!!

Oh Jaye, have you heard about trifocals yet? I refuse to give up my sewing so that is what I wear, plus a special pair I use for the computer and cross stitching. Oh my yes, the whirl of the sewing machine is a wonderful sound!! Music to my ears.

BJ, best of luck today with getting everything straightened out for your son. What a shame those who are trying so hard has to become victims to people like you described. Let us know how it went, please. BTW, HAPPY ANNIVERSAY to the both of you. Do enjoy you backyard vacation Friday.

Cindy, ah ha!!! Know where you will be put to sleep when you come to BJ's next May. Private quarters for sure. LOL Have you received you scents yet for the new candles?
Keep us posted on when they arrive and will be available.

Linda Kay, you are not getting old--just getting better. I am so glad the foot is doing well, then we can get the other one done and soon it will be squishing your toes in the warm sand of some Florida beaches. Some sewing projects on the side and generally good time. I am waiting.

Morning Tinky, happy birthday week. Package will be on it's way--alas no hunk in this one!!!

Ferndale, AR(Zone 7b)

Cindy, if I don't have the recipients email address, I create the card but instead of sending it I copy/paste the web page address.

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Debra, how is the quilting coming? What 4 mags did you get?

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Loved the card, so pretty...
Marion, I will be there. Don't know when, but I will. Feet in the sand sounds sooo nice. And it will be my first to see the ocean from that side. I have seen the ocean from Washington State, but not the east coast..
LK

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

Marion, lol I only sleep in the raw in my own home. Never when I go somewhere. I just can't stand getting all tangled up in clothes then blankets ugh! No I haven't gotten my new scents yet. They take about a week, I ordered them Saturday. I can't wait......

Debra, I went to the site....that is so cool I need to join it. They have some beautiful cards.

Ferndale, AR(Zone 7b)

Good morning, Marion! The mags are: Nov issue of The Quilter Magazine, fall issue of Fabric Trends for Quilters, fall issue of Quick Quilts, and Winter issue of Fons & Porter's Easy Quilts. I already had a mini mag of directions called Simply Charming by Moose on the Porch Quilts and had picked up a free set of instructions for a Christmas quilt called Winter Song at Hancock Fabric's. Am I off to a good start? Do you have any of the mags? We could talk specific quilts!!!!! There are a couple I like and are beginner level.

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

Has anyone heard anything from Tia? She ordered some reindeer from me, and don't know what to do.

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Sure do--all. I have subscriptions to them. My Mom and kids ususally do that for special occasions for me. What you want to talk about? I love it when someone else is bitten by the bug!!! LOL

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

ROFL!! Auntie M I didn't think about who got to share w/ Cindy next May!! If Rick comes it will be him-that is too funny!! I figure I will end up snoring on the couch, so I already know where my bed is;)

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

You will have to move over for me!!! Or share my DD earplugs. Lucky you getting to met Betty this weekend. I sure hope you will take oodles of pictures to share with us. Check you dmail, niecey poo!!

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

I will take pics!! LOTS!!! And I share as long as you don't touch me with your feet-member-I hate feet!!

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Promise--no feet. I will leave them home okay?

Ferndale, AR(Zone 7b)

Well, I should have known you would have them! lol!

I may try something like p. 15 in The Quilter as a first full quilt.

The quilt on p. 71 in Fabric Trends has a ribbon-like border that I really like. Have you ever done one like that?

And, take a look at the Chained Stars on p. 76 in Easy Quilts. Remember the fabric I sent you a photo of? That 'special' fabric? Wonder if I could do that project using my 'special' fabric as the backing??? The colors in that project would coordinate nicely I think.

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Well hello Flamingo Kim, lady of leisure!!! Yes, we always need a flamingo for our viewing pleasure. Did you say you are having rain? Send some to me please.

Debra, I am going to check the pages and will get back to you later. Need to shift some laundry around and a couple of things yet. I will get back to you. Sorry, but I had much rather have subscriptions from my mom and sister than some of the things my sister choses to send. Won't go into details but trust me best option!!!! Besides I can read them like a novel, get pleasure, ideas and then recycle to others.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

marion, if you have to recycle magazines to friends, you have my address. ^_^
Question, when you do an appliqued quilt, do you do it by hand, or machine? I have been looking at a runner with leaf appliques, and says it can be done either way. Which is easier?
LK

Ferndale, AR(Zone 7b)

LK, I've never done either one but I just read in one of the quilting mags that machine appliqué is no easier than hand appliqué. The person making the comment said it's not as easy to control the machine as it looks. Dunno - just passing it along since I read it last night. A table runner with appliqued leaves sounds pretty.

Marion, my late DMIL paid for my Southern Living mag subscription every Christmas. Your post made me think of it. I'll have to renew my own subscription this year. Magazine subscriptions are great gifts! The gift that keeps giving - every month or so. I'm asking Santa for subscriptions and a variety of sewing related items such as a lamp, new iron, fabric store gift certificates, etc. Hope he thinks I've been good this year! lol!

In case I disappear for 3 days - will be leaving mid-morning headed to craft show country. Will return Sunday. Can't wait!!! It's getting cold up there - could be 50-60's during the day. Yeah! It's more fun to go to fall craft fairs when it chilly than having to wear sunblock.

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Oh take me with you Debra. Nope, guess I had better finish up things for our class reunion instead. Atleast have fun for me, will you?

I have done both appliques, Linda Kay and Debra. I like machine better, it takes a little thought and practice but once you catch on it is easier and faster for sure. One thing is definitely use Stitch and Tear under the appliques. I also back mine with fusable web so they don't slip around. Bond them into the proper place then stitch. I have done a method where you use the invisiable thread on top and regular thread in the bobbin only draw back is touching it with an iron!! There are also some glues sticks on the market you can position you pieces to be appliqued onto the fabric. I would suggest just experimenting.

Yeap, got your address Linda Kay, and I will have to see where I am now with my sending out magazines. Just about cleaning out my back stash from several years. Of course, quilting patterns never go out of style.

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Have fun Debra.

Well... we got my son a new bank account set up, with me on the account as a signer so I can help him manage it. He's also set up for online access to his account and bill pay... whew... he may never write another check again... he's real gun shy now.

We called the old bank, and the stupid person on the phone just wouldn't listen to reason. So, we called the main bank, and talked to the manager... heads are going to roll now. They're sending out the paper work for him to close the account. They've frozen the account, and sending us everything the sheriff department is going to need to prosecute. They've reversed the nsf charges, and backed out the amount of the check that caused him to become overdrawn.
Another check he put in the mail at the same time hasn't been cashed, and hasn't reached the cable company. So, we'll just have to wait and see what happens with that.

That's all we can do for now.

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Well that is progress BJ. I know this has been stressful and frankly, it really distrubs me we have to contend with situations like this. I guess that is just life and the result of our economy--maybe.

Well back to cleaning out another closet for the garage sale with the Humane Society. They almost look empty now--not really just were overstuffed to begin with.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Here is the picture of the big leaf design. Kinda cute, and thought it would go with a lot of things. Fall colors and all. They call it a fusible applique method.

Linda Kay

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

I will look at it a little later as I have the magazine and was going to read it last night. Fell asleep instead. I don't really think it would be that hard for you Linda Kay. Debra either, just take your time.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Dropping in for a sec.

Marion when I applique I do similar, get the thinnest webbing or fusible web then I sew my pieces on to it, good side facing the web, make a slit in the web, turn it inside out and voila, perfect pieces...

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I thought the fusible web was to like glue it into place on the quilt square, then sew around the edge??? Betty, That sounds easy enough. Then you just top stitch it down?
Thanks
Linda Kay

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Fusible web is to adhere it to a certain spot. I think I might use the non fusing sheer weight interfacing and then glue it into place before stitching around the pattern. You really should press it when it is turned--atleast I have to.

Victoria Harbour, ON

yep...make the backing the lightest material that you can find ... you'll find this so very easy, no turning edges..in a quick sew with the machine all is done..for larger pieces I might make the seam allowance slightly bigger and in turns make a few clips to the seam so that it bends more easily...

Also when I'm doing a stem for flowers, I'll take the length I need for the stem fold in half - narrow parts together...make a tube, turn inside out, press it and perfect branch stem...can be used for a lot of other applications...

Victoria Harbour, ON

Always press it...yep...I use the adhevsive because once I turn it and pin it in place with a pressing towel a quick iron and it's there to stay..

Victoria Harbour, ON

did the tree of life years ago and almost all was done with this method...

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Okay Linda Kay, we will be seeing you fall table runner soon. Would you like some of the left over material I used in your quilt block? I have some probably large enough for leaves. Also, I keep forgetting--did you ever find you styrofoam 3" balls? If not I do have some for you just keep forgetting to mail. Let me know ASAP and I will gather all up and post either tomorrow or Friday.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Taking a break from machine, stove, garden and laundry :D

Oh wow!
A tutorial on appliquez. Glad you asked LK! Now, that's the only thing I haven't attempt all these years... think I'll machine appliquez.
Thanks Betty and Marion.

BJ, positive steps there and Happy Anniversary btw! Life will be much easier if more people practise using their brains and start being kind. I'm glad you followed through BJ.

Hiya Kim! Yes Marion, for Kim, we'll rekindle the (urgh) Pink flamingos buried deep inside our subconscious :D

So true Debra, nothing like mags! Like Marion says quilt patterns never die, just the methods doing them improve through the years, or made easier. Have fun at the craft show, I'm sure you'd pick up ideas!

Machine's calling..

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Machine calling Jaye, dinner calling me.
