wow, I'm way behind again!

I didnt wake up until 11:30 this morning...told DH at least it ws still AM :) teehee!

My DSS is digging out a huge section of lawn for me today so I can plant the daffs and tulips :)
I too still have daylilies coming....may be too late for them! ugh! maybe put in pots and store in garage til next year? I'll have to go look up info on them. I just planted 200 iris and now we are expecting frost! I sure hope they make it! may go mulch the yard some this week to help protect them.

as for quitting... the first time I quit, I quit cold turkey and didnt smoke for 2 years. Then picked it up again. I tried to quit again for 17 years! I think each time you try to quit it gets harder...your head tells you, oh... I can always quit again! lol! so.... I'm down to my ten a day...some days even less. My Dr is no longer harping on me.... so I just wont worry about it anymore! LOL! maybe some day I will wake up and forget to smoke that day :) that would be nice! lol!

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Donna that back yard view is to die for.. enjoy and think of me out here in the flatlands lol

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Louise she is so beautiful, I can't wait to see more.. Aunt B, you sure do remind me of me LOL

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

This message was whole, but it didn't come across ..LOL edited.. I smoke, I have quit 3 times in 40 years, I do not smoke around non-smokers, and get cold alot standing outside to smoke in winter.. Our town is all non-smoking here... some days I smoke maybe three some days ten, never a pack in a day like some I know do.. If I had to make a choice between buying seeds and flowers , or cigarretes, I would choose the flowers.

James even ornamental bananas can be eaten. In the philippines they cook the flower. Sliced thin and covered with salt to leach out the latex. Rinse and cooked with garlic and pork or chicken. It is very good!

(dana)Owensboro, KY(Zone 6a)

lol you lost me at latex

South Coast, RI(Zone 6b)

Wow Anjl, I would not have guessed you would have frost so soon. I have planted DL’s here in zone 6 in late October. They will be fine, I’m sure the ground where you are will not freeze before mid December. It only takes a few week for them to settle in. A frost will not hurt them; it will only kill off the tops if there is any green. The roots will be fine.

Glad everyone enjoyed the fall pix. If I get out and about I will take some more.

Pensacola, FL(Zone 8b)

Wow I did not know that I think that is great I will try that when it does bear fruit then..........James

(dana)Owensboro, KY(Zone 6a)

donna im jealous. i grew up in ny almost upstate and the fall was so prettty . here is just flat farmland which makes for an expansive sunset so its give and take i guess

(dana)Owensboro, KY(Zone 6a)

did you guys read todays article about the plumie farm ? and did any one add any pics to the contest . there has to be a brug in the contest they are so photogenic

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

James, You should check out Tropicman here in dg, I went to his house yesterday and he has full grown banana trees and blooming Ginger and all kinds of stuff, I was speechless and in awe as I strolled thru his "front yard" and then his green house.. he and his wife live here in Kansas in a nearby town. He eats his bananas I took pics of them growing high on the trees LOL

(Louise) Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

the latex is the milky sticky sap that is in a banana plant. James you can get recipes online for preparation.
Just have to share this pic. It was sent to me email. Someone had this come in the dog door.

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

Hello hotties. I would like to ask if we could move on past the subject of smoking vs. non-smoking for now...I only posted the picture as a funny, with us mugging for the cameras and saying Smokin' hotties, meaning hot as fire, Smoking hot, LOL, etc. and should have realized that this is a hot topic. The picture was a joke between us that were in it, and meant as a one time joke. I think we have all expressed our views and they are all good, but I am respectfully asking that we discontinue the subject. I smoke, and most days I like it. Do I wish I never had started? Yes, but that's only one thing in life I wish I hadn't done.

Thank you for your consideration hotties, I love you all ♥

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

Karen, crazy Clem is trying to post and of course you guys have been so busy that I do not even know what went on, but I agree with you lets move on with the smoking part, specially if there are a few of you that are trying to quit!

Anyway, have not had dinner yet, but wanted to say hi, and post a cute pic, Copo, looking after the doggie next door, and the water underneath him. All, have a nice evening! Clem

Good for me Karen, hey I saw a green skirt up in the little peek hole of my brug bloom, hows come it isn't hanging down?

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

aww ..little Copo is such a cutie..

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

Thanks girls ♥ I appreciate it! No big deal, just time to lighten things up again. I have been SO busy today planting all the goodies from the RU. I got lots of wonderful shade plants, fancy elephant ears...all the shade things went in the ground today, tomorrow is Monkey grass and sunny plants day!

(dana)Owensboro, KY(Zone 6a)

lav ,my step mom is from the philippines. im half hungarian , my dad is full . so my half sisters are half hungarian and half philippino . that made for a pretty combination . and my step mom could cook too . i always remember a huge sack of rice in the corner . and me being 8 always wondered what a person would do with that much rice lol . she is sweet and i love her accent

clem that has to be the cutest dog ever . that pic of him on the rug was so cute

(Louise) Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

Iris that is cool! Love filipino cooking! The filipino people are the sweetest most generous people, and some of the happiest I ever met!

South Coast, RI(Zone 6b)

Louise Oh so cute, the little deer. I would not want one to come into the house thought. I need make sure my doggie door is closed at night.

James, love that nana.

Iris, upstate NY is just beautiful this time of year.

Debra, so lucky to visit Tropicman. I lurk on the Tropical forum and I'm in awe of his plants. I had some of my buds do that with the skirt way up they did come down when it was time to bloom. They did look kind of strange.

Clem, Copo is looking so cute

Karen it must feel good to get all that stuff in the ground.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

I have never really tried shade plants, but I should, I always have shade under my cedar tree, and the front of the house facing East has shade alot .. hmm

(dana)Owensboro, KY(Zone 6a)

deb i was forced to learn about shade plants . i have a raised bed under a pecan tree. so i went with different kinds of bleeding hearts anda few hostas noid and a sum and substance smack dab in the middle ..lol it only has 4 leaves . its new

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

well currently I have some woodland violets in a ring around the cedar tree... and some sedums. i'd try hostas but they scare me LOL Do columbine grow in shade?

(Louise) Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

Deb you should, go for the fragrant hostas! mmmm love the hosta guacamole it smells sooo good! Bleeding hearts are a must! I have pinks and whites. They grow really well in our clay soil. This year my bleeding hearts never died back, really strange year! I have alot of shade in the back so I am expanding my shade bed slowly. Put in some hellebores this year.

Mine do, but get spring sun and some dappled shade. I have red star columbines and cameo blue and white.

(dana)Owensboro, KY(Zone 6a)

i put lots of petunias in there too . i have a white bleeding heart and the one you got ,lav, and a king of hearts on the way . i had a credit at wayside . there is a fragrant hosta with a double flower called venus. me and mom are on a waiting list for spring on that one at made in the shade . i love columbine but i read they attract spider mites and marigolds too . it was in my rose book so when i was doing my rose garden i steered clear . but they are so pretty . i doubt a few would do anything

(Louise) Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

I have had no trouble with spider mites on them. Some leaf miner damage later in the season.
