Funny thing about smoking....everyone I have met who stopped smoking can remember the exact date they stopped.
Odd.
Lav, do I need to repot the hib?

(dana)Owensboro, KY(Zone 6a)

wow we quadruple posted . wile i was typing there were 4 new posts lol.. donna thats horrible .. do they know what it was that you ate ? i found out about my thyroiditis because my face and mouth swelled up and i thought it was an allergic reaction . well thats what sent me to the immediate heath center .i knew something was wrong for about a month . that was scary i cant imagine how scary it must have been for you. im glad you are feeling better ..
doe, isnt it amazing when that happens . my xdh was mean and a horrible husband and i prayed for the strength to leave and i prayed that i just didnt want to feel sad or anything about it . that was the first time in my life i felt like i was not in control and was being carried really .. and once i was in my new place i was filled with this ecstatic feeling even though i had nothing and had to put my 2 yr old in daycare and go back to school and be on welfare pretty much .ill never forget that feeling . thats how my mom quit also she prayed about it and hasnt had one since . we arnt really religious either we just have faith in god i guess .

Very nice auntB love the doubles also

Being a smoker, and I've tried to quit a couple of times... it IS quite an accomplishment, sometimes the hardest thing a person has ever done... I'm proud of you who have and understand those of us who've tried and failed, ... I guess we all reach a point and it is totally an individual thing... Joyce, I thought about re-potting the Pete's Blue (we have each got one of a the set of twins from Lav, (cool, huh?)) But I'm going to wait until next Spring on mine... I've read Tropical Hibiscus have a "magical" way of adjusting their roots to support the top growth... know what I mean?
Donna, wanted to tell you I'm just beaming down here that you are having noticeable improvement. I'm "rootin" for you!

(Tammie) Odessa, TX(Zone 7b)

I tried polinating the blooms of my frosty pink that are open with the pollen from my mountain magic I had saved.. did it last night.. well, two of the blooms fell off this morning.. only 3 are left now. How disappointing. And I barely touched them. touchy plant. I moved it back outside .. if it is going to be that touchy.. it might as well go ahead and get wind blown on the patio. Guess I will do without seeds this year.

That is one beautiful double AuntB

Iris! Aint that a "nice" way of putting it? lol

Pensacola, FL(Zone 8b)

I quit smoking since the end of January and I feel so much better.....LOL

(Tammie) Odessa, TX(Zone 7b)

Yes!.. that blue Hib is beautiful.. some day will have to get cuttings to root when it is a monster plant. I have a multi plant in a pot out front I have to cut back every year but it is just common yellow and reds and never tried to root any of the cuttings. Might try it next year and share. It is finally looking good also this year.. looked like a bunch of sticks all summer.. finally has leaves.

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Lemon Twist brug that I got from Parks seed for 5 bucks has three blooms on it. I have been amazed by the brugs I got from them. I had been hearing bad things about them, but I got 3 or 4 brugs and a red mandevlia (I am sure I spelled that wrong) and they have been really nice. Two of the brugs have already bloomed.

Thanks Donna on the advice of the daylilies. The coop took longer than usually cause for some reason the stock wasn't coming in, but mine will be on their way Monday. Course I am still planting all kinds of stuff but odds and ends and mostly iris, except for a few peonies.

Captured orange cosmos seeds for you Wolfie, I will mail Monday if I don't forget.....like I do most things.
Anyone want some? They are really tall and bright orange! Blooming their hearts out right now. Love things that bloom late.

Anyone overwinter caladium bulbs? I have a bunch and hate to lose them.

AuntB daydreams is beautiful. You are such a good bruggie Mom.

The RU sounds like you all had a wonderful time. Sounds like you all got a lot of plants. Post pics if you get a chance.

Back out doors to finish planting and hauling in.

(Mike) Batesville, AR

AuntB

And good morning everyone! Hope everyone is having a great Sunday! Glad you got them 'put away!' :) I do hope they 'take' for you! Your 'Day Dreams' - beautiful! You're a great brug mommy! I can see the love & attention you give her! :) Off to Home Depot - but will check in later!

Tammie, I hope to have PLENTY, if you hotties wanna grow some out, maybe we will come up with one worthy of registering as "Hottie". Course Louise is getting jiggy up there in Nebraska too, so we'll just have to see... maybe nothing astonishing but we can have fun with it, anyway. I want to do some crosses with Pink Perfektion (from hottie handsome Mikey) but that is a project for next year.. Tammie, sometimes when I move them in and out and out and in, some don't like it, not sure if that is why you're having bud loss, but maybe..... I pretty much was not delicate out there getting the pollen to and from Day Dreams, she likes to protect her "private parts" with those pretty skirts, so I kinda had to be "rude" about it.. lol

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Mike, we posted at the same time, how funny! lol

(Louise) Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

Bonnie, lovely pics! Cannot wait for mine to bloom! I dusted maya with Bonnie pink and bonnie pink with maya.

(Tammie) Odessa, TX(Zone 7b)

Those 4 blooms were my only hope of having any seeds this year .. all hope gone now. so no seeds for me this year. Maybe someone will have some brug seeds to spare in the spring.

happgarden.. I have the perfect place to overwinter caladium bulbs and was planning on buying some in the spring for my mother. I would be happy to pay postage for some. I have a mulch bin in my potting shed/greenhouse that I keep bulbs in over winter.. they would be very happy there and I can plant them around her front tree in the spring. I have been wanting to plant them out there for a while.

I was lucky and never started smoking... seen many people with COPD die and have been thankful I never started.. I am a nurse.

Tammie, I sure hope to have too many seeds to handle on my own... have 3 hopeful crosses working, 1 with a still swelling pod on Antique Lace.. we'll see... OH I noticed a teeny weeny bud on Golden Lady, she's only about 2 ft tall and for me a very s l o w grower this summer, but I am just loving the little ones this year.. thx to all my DG friends and family.
Ah, Lav, now you are spelling it with an "ie" ;) I love the name! ;) My Maya is filled with unknown seed pods... the thing with crossing Maya is you are apt to get a lot of White seedlings and most will die because they need some green for photosenthesis (sp- ripped that one apart) to occur, but it is possible I think to get some good ones to experiment with.. Mike....Dollie...anyone want to elaborate??

Morning again, all. I'm getting ready to set up camping on my front porch here. I hate that the leaves look so bad and I had them so pretty before, but this thing is now 12 inches long and still not completely blooming. So far I cannot smell anything. It's planted outside my bedroom window, so was planning on smelling it all night. :)

AuntB, that is a gorgeous flush on daydreams, I hope mine makes the winter and flowers like that for me. Yes very noticeable improvement, I managed to stay up all day for the last 3 days. I know I am pushing it some but it seems to be working.

Mike is that New Orleans Lady in the pix, very pretty!

Joyce, I’m going to try and do the Caladiums too, just going to take them out of the pot wash off the dirt, dry them in the sun and put them in paper bags in the basement. I think that is what I read to do with them. Pretty much the same as the dahlias but I have never had one of those make the winter yet.

Wow James, You’ve made it 10 months, that’s great. Everybody I know that has quit says they feel much better.

Iris, we really don’t know for sure what it was, I ate dinner that night in a hospital cafeteria. I was visiting my daughter after she had the baby. I had eaten there all that week but that night I had stuff from the salad bar, nothing unusual so the allergist think it was probably a preservative they used to keep the tuna and chicken salad fresh. That seemed to make perfect sense to him.

Be back later, company coming in

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Donna, it would be scary to have a reaction that bad and not know what it is!
I over winter dahlias, cannas, and calla lilies just fine. I think people worry over dahlias way too much. I let them dry out and just throw them and the cannas in a tub, covered the tub with a blanket so it was dark and planted this year. I had a couple of dahlias that looked all dried up but I learned this year to plant them anyway. I think some of caladiums I will leave in the pot and let them dry out like I do the callas and others I will dig and dry.

Tammie after I get the all the caladiums together I will send you some. The bulbs aren't very big, I thought they would be huge the way they leafed, but they are not. I seem to have more White Queen, than the others. Big leaf small bulb.

Mike, home depot is our Saturday night or Sunday afternoon stop almost every week. DH is finishing our house other than roughing it in we have done everything, built my garden room, building a building for himself, and fixing the other buildings. I sure don't know how shares of home depot could drop! LOL

AuntB, you are going to hoocey goocey your way out of your house when the brugs take over! LOL....oh so hope you get a good one, that would be soooo exciting to get to register one of your own.

Back outdoors.

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

James, I missed your post up there, and I'm so proud of anyone who quits, I mean QUITS smoking.. It means a lot cause I haven't quit and need to make up my mind that I want to...the first step.. like shouldn't I find good enough reasons JUST right here on this thread with all the hotties and handsomes dealing with issues related to or hindered by smoking... Thanks for giving me something to think about, everyone... it is a bad habit and, it DOES stink... I try to be a polite smoker... hmmm.

Peggins! Look at U!! That bud is going to pop! and BEFORE your RU! YAY!!! (clapping, big grin) You smarty hottie, planting it under your bdrm window! merpeg: Hopelessly addicted to brugs. :) I have ugly brugs too.. we just don't try to show them in a pic on our thead... it's okay..we all go through trying times and trials, even mother nature gives us challenges, (besides our inexperience).. I've had leafless, bug infested brugmansia, blooming, I will post some ugly brugs this winter, and I'm sure I can get an ugly brug pic right now.... through it ALL, it is an education, a step forward in our quest for what you have and are about to experience..

(I'm not "tracking" too well on #26 hottie thread; still haven't read all of #25,- that baby Copo pic I posted was in an email someone forwarded to me, aw, Copo, I have to find the latest pic your Mom posted somewhere in the last 24-48hrs - see what I mean??, our group is getting so large, it's hard to mention everyone I "see", please know I enjoy everyone's opinion and appreciate your sincere input to our thread)

All you hottie TX ru'ers ... I saw your beautiful faces in the pics up there, pretty Hottie's! What fun! AND another one NEXT weekend??? I think Meg;)) is going to that one, LK?, (argh, I'll never get it straight! lol)

Donna, I couldn't believe it, that many blooms on DD's first flush after the bloom "debut"... the buds came on at different intervals... but once she opened the first one, it was like it gave rest of them the idea or a sense of competition... it's been cooler here, so they are taking an extra long time to open and color, I'm giddy watching "the magic" of the blooming show... now for the ugly brug pic..brb

Midwest City, OK(Zone 7b)

Oh, Bonnie! If it wasn't my first ever Brug bloom I would not post any pictures, poor guy looks so eaten up. But I'm wondering if that made the bloom bigger, with all of its leaves mostly gone.

Got to get busy around here. Check in much later! Peg

(Louise) Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

Day pic of Maya. We are having strong winds here today. Had to pick up Bonny Pink. She is starting her next flush of blooms already.

Louise, I have to say it is fun to see you post pics of that, cause she was under my watchful eye since spring 07, she would probably be bigger if I had put her in a tub, but then she would be home bound with me, no way to get those pots to an RU... I love seeing her... And Peg, I think I will have to disagree with you about it being your first bloom and not posting pics of blooms to come... I still get excited and proud to post pics of not only my firsts, but any blooms I get.. so guess we'll see about NOT posting pics of your future blooms...wanna bet? ;) What brug is it, with the unfurling bloom on it? I think they do extend energy to the buds/blooms by actually shedding leaves... the leaves turn yellow and fall away because the energy is going to the bloom... the Versi (tied to the retaining wall on the right) is my ugly girl right now... altho I should have gotten closer to see the ugliness.... it's not a pretty pic, but it's where the brug beauty is for me right now.. still enjoying them.

Fall colours, (sniff sniff- my brugless garden).. it has been mostly cloudy all day, and windy this afternoon.. a certain crispness in the air I can't describe...

Yes it is a stinky habit that is for sure I just quit cold turkey and I love it that I did that think of how much more you could garden and thats is what i do. Now that I am paying less rent and have a yard to grow in I am enjoying it. Carol (CtBig) came over today and bought me a pink smitty and a few other things she is such a sweetheart. She is the one who turned me onto Daves and I have to her to thank for it.

Midwest City, OK(Zone 7b)

No bet, Bonnie, I'd lose that one. That is one of the nice things about DG that we can share our pictures with people who will know about them and appreciate them. The ahhhs and the uglies, too. And, if that's your ugly brug, I'll take it! LOL

The bloom is Dr. Suess, which was the first brug I ever bought, too. I read somewhere it was the easiest to grow. :) I know we've talked about the plant "gender" before, but he is my guy. My others are definitely shes.

Back outside. Peg

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Aw, that's cool James. CtBig, Carol IS top notch in my book., and I've only really met her on d-mails and a seen her on a couple threads... she is a genuine friend to you, I'm sure of it... hey, Happy new home and have fun with the extras and the Pink Smitty, wonderful gifts!

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

My Puppy Love has 5 buds! They're still tiny, but they're there! AND, I have 2 more with buds! Yippee!!!

Pensacola, FL(Zone 8b)

Wow Doe41 make sure you post pictures of this one........James.

Yeah AuntB she is a very good friend she has given me so many different things I can not wait to go this saturday to our RU this will be my first time to attend I do not have much to offer but I managed to come up with a couple of things if anybody wants one they are welcome to take it.

James

Midwest City, OK(Zone 7b)

Oh, Audrey, I'm jealous. We got our Puppy Loves at about the same time and nothing for me there yet. I want to see your pictures, too! Congrats!!

James, enjoy your RU. I'm trying to make myself get ready for mine but really dragging it out for some reason. But, it's 80 degrees outside and soo pretty. I just want to sit out there and relax. Peg

Pensacola, FL(Zone 8b)

Oh I will I am sure I am anxious to meet other gardeners that is for sure.

South Coast, RI(Zone 6b)

James, so glad you’re going to a ru, it sounds like soooooooo much fun. I am also thinking I will be able to garden more and some of the money I spent on cigs can now go on plants and garden supplies. What is a pink Smitty? What a wonderful friend you have in Carol.

Yay Audrey congrats on all the bud soon to be blooms.

Peg you keep posting your guy, is close I’m sure 24 maybe 48 hours he will start to puff out. Can’t wait to see him bloom, don’t worry about the leaves now he will lose them soon anyway.

Going to go snap a pix of the woods behind the house from the deck, the color in RI is just peeking. Behind my house there are mostly oaks and pines so the color does not get really good. I doubt I will get out soon enough to take pix where there are lots of Maples. They have the best fall colors

Auntb Versi look good from here.

Louise great pix of Maya, she is beautiful.

Here is 1/2 the line up in the basement.

Thanks James, I guess I don’t know all the names of the Burgs yet. That was so nice of Carol to do for you.

Hi Debra, great pix of the yard today, hope your weekend went well too.

Here is a pix of the woods from the back deck. When the leaves turn red, yellow and orange you’ve got to stop fantasizing that it is still summer. Fall has arrived here in my back yard.
