My best shot yet of an Osprey.
DAILY PICS Vol. 144
I am amazed at all the beautiful pics posted today! Really great stuff!!
I've been tempted to get one of those stockings for the Goldfinch, since I had quite a few last year, but I worry the seeds will get wet and moldy, especially here....I do see them for sale. I see plastic cylinder feeders but a squirrel will damage those quickly, and I hate to spend a lot for a feeder with glass that I will only use briefly.
He's a beauty Margaret!
Osprey shot was in the afternoon, sun to the west, so it was hitting him just right. Thanks Margaret.
Great pictures everyone. I love that Anna's, ducbucin! Looks like she's diving into a pool
That Bluebird probably wonders what's going on. Lovely birds, Mrs ED.
How wonderful to be able to see a Woodpecker pecking. Great shots.
adel, I knew you weren't feeding the Goldfinches enough ' cause for the past few days I've had a couple hundred of your little piglets!
The creek is finally flowing again, after two dry months. When the water went, so did most of the smaller birds, so I'm very happy they're showing up again.
The Band-tail Pigeon numbers have gone from about 23 yesterday to about 50 this morning. This one is probably a first year bird, because the crescent on the neck is barely showing..........and it landed and stayed quite close. These are generally skittery birds, and don't stop by when I'm outside.

This Red-breasted Sapsucker is very special to me. We got to know each other last fall. She (?) would fly right in beside me, while the other sapsuckers would disappear when I was near. She brought a fledge to see me in early July. Just a couple weeks ago she told me fall was indeed coming, as she spent three days straight working over her favorite apple tree. When she didn't come for several days I was afraid she'd fallen victim to a raptor that frequents here. I was so happy when she showed up again yesterday, and spent nearly the whole day. And again today.
Yikes, busy night last night!!
Long shot of what I assume is a Hawk
Peregrine Falcon, 1st-winter
I was thinking this was another Ovenbird, but I am doubting myself now
One of the Catharus thrushes, most likely Hermit Thrush
I grabbed a couple of poorly focussed shots of a hawk but have no idea what it is
Collared Sparrowhawk. For comparisons, closely similar to Sharp-shinned Hawk in N America.
Eastern Phoebe i believe?
Yep.
Red-breasted Sapsucker .... She (?)
From the almost completely red head with minimal white, I'd say more likely He, but hard to be 100% certain.
Resin
Wonderful pics guys!

Love all those Goldfinch adel!
Cute Phoebe Mrs Ed!
Sweet Downy Rose!
I love all the Golfinch adel!
tiger, Great shot of the White-breasted Nuthatch and RB Sapsucker!
That's the closest one of the Ospreys has come, Pelle, thanks. And thank you, Resin for identifying the Peregrine Falcon. I seem to be seeing more Falcons lately.
Adel...send some of those Goldfinches to Mo! Ours are nowhere to be seen and I sure miss them!
Tiger...Great pics...love the story about the Sapsucker!
The yard has just exploded with birds this morning!! Good grief, we've had White Breasted Nuthatches, Downy, Red-bellied and Flicker Woodpeckers, Bewick's and Carolina Wrens, White Crowned Sparrows, Female Indigo Buntings, Bluebirds, Yellow-rumped Warblers, Mourning Doves, Meadowlarks and more. The Crows are making lots of noise and last night I heard a Barn Owl for the first time in years!! I am in Hogs ( I mean Birds) Heaven!!
Happy birding everyone!
Nanny...Sweet little RBWP!! I haven't seen a female yet!
edited to say it was a Barred Owl and not a Barn Owl!!
