This Red-breasted Sapsucker is very special to me. We got to know each other last fall. She (?) would fly right in beside me, while the other sapsuckers would disappear when I was near. She brought a fledge to see me in early July. Just a couple weeks ago she told me fall was indeed coming, as she spent three days straight working over her favorite apple tree. When she didn't come for several days I was afraid she'd fallen victim to a raptor that frequents here. I was so happy when she showed up again yesterday, and spent nearly the whole day.
