age ain't nuttin but a numba!!!
She's About To............ #23
louise i have several outside, and cuttings from, I had to get this new one ... it's pink, and mine are huge and flowering as well, the one by my back door I just cut back for cuttings,
along with the clerodendrm(sp?) blue whirling butterfly bush, and even got some cuttings from my cardinalis ruby slippers. yay! oh! i got a pasiflourus passion vine, blue boquet.
dont know what I am going to do with it, I hope it is a climber, I have the ladder for it. I have to stop this madness! I use Home defense , it works well ;) ( i don't spray around my female mantis. she has folded herself into a leaf. she will die soon and leave me a brood to tend to this winter)
Donna: if my kids came over to help me , I would faint.. u r one lucky momma , and a hottoe momma at that! Your children will take care of your brug babies I am sure.
So you have the mantis indoors? A greenhouse??
Yes, I remember now. Othoro home defense. I will have Lisa pick some up and spray the basement. CRS is a reality, the big 5 oh was a couple of years ago.
The girls were great today, Christina actually drove the tractor!!!!!!! They did all the Burgs and the 2 Mandeville. I’m not sure when I’m going to mention the Callas, Canna, Caladium, EE, Dahlia and OMG the rest. They will be fine for a while yet, think I will just wait it out and see if I can do it myself. I have a feeling the Dr is not going to let me go to work for quite a while. The last allergy attack he kept me home for a month and that time I did not make it into the hospital.
kim, I ordered two sacs that supoosedly held 200 eggs each and put them at each end of the yard in the gardens, this female is one I brought inside the morning she greeted me .. she is a voracious eater, she eats all the little flies things and the spiders that drop down from the ceiling down here in the basement. The room my plants are in are is not finished.
aww Donna, I hate allegies! Gosh I had cannas and caladeums for the first time this year and so are u telling me I have to dig those up too? I was just going to let them winter over in their pots!
I'm with Clemie, SLOW DOWN hotties! lol Iris, I'll try to get back in here and post about winterizing your brugs, after I eat some of my DS Drew's homemade lasagna, made it yesterday and I like it best reheated..
Iris- yeah, I'm trying to slow it down on plants..(haha) I double dare you, with all the generous hotties and dger's... ;)
Joyce! MORE beds? Sorry on the mites, I think they will take neem spray, but I'd just blow them off with the hose since you've got em' back outside... Enjoy the car show tomorrow.... (maybe there's a nursery sale somewhere close by -haha)
Kim, the exotic (hey, IS Marion still lurking?) How very cool (and kinda ewe-y) that mantis egg case is, way to go, maybe you can catch them hatching and get a pic... I'd love to see that...
Louise, Louise, enjoy your martini, heck have couple more.. it IS Saturday nite! I might be able to come up with a Crantini... vodka/cranberry juice... now you're making me want one... The versi peach buds are yellow not gold, they bloom white, then turn peachy and the smell is intoxicating and heavy! Loved your scent description, mmmm I think there is a named brug called Tequilla Sunrise (I murdered a cutting last winter).. But I like Martini Sunrise..
Donna, the girls did fine, if this is your brugs' first year, I wouldn't cut on them too much unless the rootballs are dense and big.. I'm a skeerdy-cat, probably...
I took some pics today, broke open seed pods I cleaned off Antique Lace so you could see ..
took all my plants inside today except those in the ground and my orange tree. i'll leave it out till the last minute.
btw AUNTB, u know that is a datura and not a brug. lol
Hey Wolfie!! AuntB why did you cut your buds off??
those seed pods look cool, I want some! LOL whats Antique Lace? Goes and gets a cranvodka) *sip* LOL
Kim, she was LOADED, there was more, I want her to put her energy into keeping the pod I crossed with Versi... if it drops I'm not growing brugs anymore (Just kidding on not growing brugs)
wolfie I have a lemon tree.. sheesh we are loving the same things here almost LOL
Deb I am going to try over wintering my calla in the pot. We shall see on that one. It took a lot of abuse from my schnauzer this year and still made it. I am going to unpot my tuberoses since they seem to do better just stuck in a box on my cold mudporch. Donna I am so happy that they can bring in your babies! I am the one who swears by ortho home defense. Have been using it for three years and it kills everything! It does not smell at all and dries in 10 min. Pyrethrum based too which is good for me. We had a huge flea infestation last fall due to the tree rats (squirrels) that come for my pin oak acorns and it cleared that up fast! That and frontline plus. It kept my packed sunroom free from bugs until spring when I ordered from a greenhouse. I did not respray and we got spider mites BAD. First time I have ever had to deal with spider mites. Anyone want some HOYAS...there is a thread that is wanting to sell off her extra hoyas pretty cheap. Dmail me and I will set you up! I have seventeen hoyas now and think I should get all these in shape first. All of them have survived since May so we shall see.
I inhereted a huge sansevera and a huge diffenbachia tree last nite at my daughters.. they are still out on the front porch, too tired to lug them in
oooohhhh I see! I had one fall off ; (...so I made some more lol!!! only have about 6 tho....
how do u i know which pod is which if u cross? and how do u cross?
OH Bonnie if you get seeds I wanna try em!!!! I really love the seedling thing. It is like Christmas! You never know what you are gonna get! I like it Martini Sunrise! I tried to look up tequila sunrise but found nothing. I suppose I could email the societies that shall remain nameless in DG and inquire. My baby probably is not anything spectacular...but I shall spread her around and see how she does in warmer climes and such. Anyone in Southern climes that wants cuttings from her Dmail me and I will keep you on file for spring!
Louise, you have a problem hon... 17 hoyas! Craaaazy! HAHA.. I'm not counting my plants anymore.. That's my thinking, too Mike, close, just in case cause I'm bound and determined to see more blooms before they are drug to the back of the basement... Debra, nice haul you got! I spray my basement before they come in, and very carefully a couple times on the floor over winter.. I think it's the home defense, too... Louise, I wanted to say how BIG those leaves on your Martini Sunrise ;) are.. huge! look... :( they're gone.. brb- ya'll have fun... don't post too many, I'll never catch up... ;)
ouchie you guys are way too much, thank you Bonnie for defending me, I just can't keep up
hey Kim i took a pix of the orange passi and cuttings too are on the way to get roots!
All enjoy your evening and Louise the martini sounds mmmmmmmnnnnnnnn delicious!
Martini's a must then at the hottie shin dig.. I haven't forgot, just my platter is pretty full right now.. Clemen don't go, I wanna see that orange passie pic, ya lil hottie!
Donna, so if the Doc doesn't want you going to work...... maybe Lisa could help you finish up what you need done for winter? Bless her and Christina for helping today, Drew wasn't too excited about helping, but he HAD to anyway and Melissa joyfully jumped right in and even drove the mower/trailer with hibicus's... we made about 4 trips with the truck and the mower... still more to go.. (funny, her name is Melissa Joy)
Ok Bonnie trying to upload the camera just for ya, don't go to sleep on me coming right back! Do you want those cuttings too??
Hey hotties! I sure have missed you! Got Mama all tucked in the bed for the night and the house is finally quiet. Whole family was here for a barbeque lunch and we had a great old time visit until about 8:00. Mama is tired, but very happy. This is the first time she's been home since she left her home of 45 years to go to the nursing home in Houston in April for those of you who don't know. And guess what? She's been in a wheelchair and helpless for the past 4 years and she walked up to the door on a WALKER! She's walking again! I just cried when I saw her coming. She has really been working hard on her therapy an loves it. She will soon be 84.
Karen that is so nice!
Karen, I have big ol tears welling up! THAT is just the greatest! I bet she was smiling from ear to ear to be back and filled with pride to show you her how hard consistant work paid off!
Guess I messed that up, (really no martini's, yet) I'm holdin out here for Clemen's pics!
Thanks ya'll! It was indeed a proud moment. She's been exercising the the soundtrack from Mama Mia and was telling me all about it! She didn't want my sister to tell me she was walking until I could see her. I was just amazed. Gotta go, my Chelsea and her fiance' are still here and spending the night, just wanted to say hello and love you all!
Oh Karen! I am so happy for you I am all teary!!! What a surprise for you honey!!! I hope you have a weekend full of wonderful memories!!!!!! We forced my Dad to go home for last Christmas to see his sis. Little did we know it was his last Christmas. We are so happy his sis has those memories. Make memories hotties. Everything else does not matter. Just fun memories with those you love. Bonnie!!!! (Bonnie!!! Hottie!!!) What is that magnificent plant! Is that a fern of some kind in your pic? I would love to try ferns but they scare me as much as plumies!!
Thank you Karen, I was thinking about you and Momma today.. enjoy your family, and we'll look forward to you coming back when you can... Debra, I just did it for the first time, didn't really know what I was doing, but I'd read a thread on DG about it.. I took a little paint brush (art type) I held a bloom of Versi, and rubbed the brush all around the things coming down on the inside of the bloom (see, no education on flower parts.... I'm so ashamed:) Then when I could see little fluffy like particles on the end of the brush, I took it over to the Antique Lace bloom and did the deed, I rubbed it all over on the hangy down parts of A.L... then I marked the bloom stem with a marker and waited... the bloom finally fell away and I waited some more... I posted a pic of it somewhere, maybe #21? It started swelling and grew into a seed pod like I posted up there... and now I wait some more... 3-5 months for it to ripen... and then...... and then... IF I'm lucky I'll share the seed with ya'll and we'll wait some more and have fun posting pics of the blooms we will get... I'm going for a short lil brug like Antique Lace only with pendulous peachy blooms like Versi... of course I'll be happy with almost anything, just so I get to germinate some of the seeds.. lot's of waiting, huh?
Well, Louise.. prepare to be skeered, cause I'm sending you a baby plumie! I forgot to bring one to the RU... And You have to buy one of those ferns at Lowe's or some place... It would take too long to grow that big if I sent you some of it... it is Kimberly Queen Fern... I winter them over in the basement and they don't lose many leaves like the Boston ferns... It doesn't like to be planted in the ground and I probably will put it in a little bigger pot next spring... I think you can pick them up for $8 - $10.. they take sun or shade, I water them everyday when it's hot, and I love how they add texture out there... ty
CLEMIE! Gorgeous! Is there a name?? I love the leaf shape, too... like duckie feet! lol
don' t know, would have to ask mamasita, she problably knows, she is so scientific anyway. Do you want a cutting?? let mee now i am rooting quite a few passis as you know already
Mike, what a gorgeous brug, although she would be more more beautiful here in NY, so when do you send her to me, lol! Clem
OK, Mike what is that bloom? Love it.
Lav, ferns are sooo easy. I hae had a rabbit foot fern for years and most winters I rarely remember to water it and then when spring hits start watering and it pops back soooo forgiving. Also have an aspargus fern and same thing.

Oh Clemen that is so pretty! Bonnie...love that fern...ferns are scarey. I will look for that one for sure. I saw a magazine where they took a 4x4 and planted it, lined it with sphagnum moss and covered it with chicken wire. Put a large fern on top. It looked just like a palm tree. So pretty in a non tropical climate! They mounted a plastic saucer on top to hold the potted fern. Really want to do that. We inherited several giant mirrors from the previous owners of the shop. I think we are gonna mount them on the ugly tin garage so it shows off the plants in the yard. Maybe put some fake fern palms in front..
