I found you, and posted this new link, in the last room.

Ladies, how is your Friday going? Not too busy I hope?
LK

Ferndale, AR(Zone 7b)

Betty, if dawned on me that if I get 6 additional heads to make santas for family members, how will I make the bodies? When we get your kit, will the body be flat pieces of fabric that can be traced for a pattern? Or will they be preassembled? If preassembled, I could probably figure out a pattern.

(AnjL) Fremont, CA(Zone 9b)

Betty, can you please update me for 2 kits? just noticed I'm not updated on the top post.

I decided I'm going to buy some velveteen to make the robes as instructed...and then maybe make a fur coat with embelishments to go over? will wait to see how the first santa turns out to see how/if I can make the coats. decided I'll go with simple first instead of complicating the project for myself! LOL!
Hoping to pick up the velveteen today and make the robes this weekend!

Hello, where is everyone. Betty how are you doing on this project, and your halloween sewing, and....
You stay so busy. Hope your earache is better.
LK

Victoria Harbour, ON

Linda Kay, now how did you know I was holding my ear...started work 1 hr. earlier than usual and looks as though Suzanne will have to stay an hour or so later so guess as I'm hitching a ride I'm staying as well...

My witch is almost done...doing the happy dance..want her on the door this weekend...did 3 more 'iris folding' Christmas cards here in the office today, figuring out materials for all the grandchildren's costumes...not a thing to ask me, could go on and on and on...

As for the Santa's I called USA to find out about the hair for the beard and she said I should be receiving it any day, then parcels can go out..let's hope it's not 'it's in the mail' story...lol

How about you all?

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Sorry to hear your ear is bothering you, that is not fun!!! Cool and raining.....had to take Laura to the Allergist today they tested her for about 65 different things and sh has inked numbers all over.....not my choice for tatoos!!! I guess she does have list of allergies now so she can start treating them!!

I am having no luck at all finding the correct size styofoam balls......guess I may have to go into alteration mode with the sizes I can find !

LK I can't remember which thread you requested autumn leaf pics.....here is one from the parking lot while I was waiting for Laura.......Staghorn Sumac I think is what it is.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Wow, Betty, you should see a doc about your ear aches. You need to take care. Maybe an inner infection or someting?

Lovely colors for the sumac. I sure do miss the fall changing colors. No trees down here to change. Just about everything is evergreen. The purple sage, the cactus, live oak trees. And the Mesquite trees, just drop the leaves. no color changing at all.
Thanks for sharing. And if anyone else has more colors, you can share them here. they will be greatly appreciated.
Try your dollar store for the styro balls. I found some there, and only $1.00 per bag.
As far as the allergy testing went, at least you know what they can treat now.

I haven't really read much on this thread yet, but Betty you're still having the ear aches??? My goodness get to the dr, I don't want to come back from my conference on Sunday and read that you are in the hospital because you let something go for too long. My Goodness!

I've been working on the Santa a little, I can't get the liquid stitch to glue the fabric together, I'm about to get the hot glue after it, or maybe elmers lol! I'll work on it more after the conference, maybe the hotel will have a computer I can get on so I can catch up.

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

If liquid stitch doesn't work "Fabritac" is very good and very strong !

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Betty, where are you? Hope your taking care of that ear ache? Also hope your just busy painting witch hair, or sewing costumes!
Linda Kay

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

I just had to tell you ladies that I finally have a bud on one of my brugs! It's about 4 in long, and I didn't know it had y'd! Now I'M doing the happy dance!

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Betty--flaunting my "general" medical knowledge again..........

The inner ear is connected to the throat--there is a canal......Many people hold their noses when they sneeze. The immense burst of air then has nowhere to go--and often ends up going into the ear canals.
Now--if you have a cold and are sneezing as a result--and hold your nose--the bacteria just "could" end up in your middle ear and start an infection. Just one possibility.....

Do you remember when young children had earaches? Warming up a few drops of Baby oil on a tsp. and then dripping some of it in the ear helped. Put a cotton "plug" in afterwards to keep it in there.

OK! Back to being a gardener.......Gita

(AnjL) Fremont, CA(Zone 9b)

lol my daughter had one of those 'water babies' dolls that you fill with water. everytime she had an earache, we filled it with warm water and she'd fall asleep hugging that baby doll. now she is a momma, and uses the water baby (has a new one!) for her son! you brought back some memories Gita! ^_^

I wanted to pass something on to you---IF you know of a "Tuesday Morning" store anywhere near you. It is a great discount store with high end stuff--all perfect--no irregulars.

Well--I stopped in one as I was in that area getting my Emissions done.
They had the most beautiful, lined, velvet of all colors--AND FULLY LINED with shiny lining X-mas tree skirts. Just sooooo pretty--for $20.! Now--these skirts were full circle--Lots and lots of fabric in them!

Thought of you all as some of you are having a hard time finding velvet.
I suppose you could Google "Tuesday Morning".

Here's the website: www.tuesdaymorning.com. I have no idea if they ship??? Being a discount store--I think not......

Afternoon, the most beautiful day today..warm temps, bright yellow/red/orange all about, although leaves adorn the ground it adds such a warm feeling all about on this our Thanksgiving weekend..so much beauty, breath taking it is...

OMG Thursday Suzanne asked me where I wanted to go for lunch, I ALWAYS say, wherever and she gets so angry..must be something special you want to each or go..so Thursday I had been thinking, earlier in the spring boss took us all to a restaurant called Angelo's and right next door was a big store that had a sign 60 - 80% off..going out of business sale - 52 years in the business ..at that time there was snow on the ground, I quickly ran in, and yes, lots of bargains, elderly gentleman replied when I asked when he was officially going out of business and he said when all my inventory is gone...soooo, said to Suzanne let's go eat at Angelo's..I quickly got out of the car (only 1 hr. for lunch) and ran into the fabric store, and yes it's still open and he had bolts of velvet, royal blue, deep burgandy, hunter green etc. crossed my fingers when I asked how much...knowing same is $29.99 at Fabricland...OMG/OMG $6.99 bargain of the day for sure..you have to know much came home with me, especially as I'm doing 3 big classes...so Thursday I came home excited about my purchase..even got Suzanne to purchase 12 yards..as she wants to do some for Christmas gifts, must say she was smilling as well...

Called USA re hair order...she guaranteed it would be here either Thursday-Friday at the latest..no go! Now with this being our long weekend won't get postal service until Tuesday...sure hope so, want to take all the pkgs. to Frankenmuth on Friday and post them from there, that way no border crossing and should save time...

Got all my wood today to finish these and others...was going to start cutting tonight but I'm an early riser and enjoy doing woodwork before daybreak..lol...sooo I'm well on my way, even bought large bubble envelopes to see if all will fit in..if not, will be on 'box' hunt...

So your goodies are coming 'soon'...got more chequest on Thursday...will d-mail you their arrival as they come in...

Thanks for sending them so quickly... much appreciated....

Victoria Harbour, ON

The most beautifal fall day relaxed me today..moving slowly but getting things done...

Hair cut this morning, shucks they were so busy couldn't get the perm I wanted...

Grocery order...trip to my favorite lumber yard TimBr..lordy those guys are so helpfull..needed a lot of wood for the Victorian Santa kits and materials to close back deck in...shopped on the main street..didn't realize there was a scrapbooking store so found some punches and embellishments for my 'iris christmas cards'...didn't take long to spend my $$$...lol...

Came home, had company, just sat and enjoyed..then got my witch together, thought she was 4' but she's 5'..takes up most of the door...have to go out to the cornfields and pick up some stalks and get a few more plants and pumpkins..but, feel good about some things 'fall' outside...

While driving into town..so much color

Edited to read...

Need more fall flowers, some corn stalks and front entrance will at least have something to welcome guests...

Did get the witch I made this week together and up..lordy she's taller than I...5'

Betty,

If you are mailing your kits out from the US, you could use the "flat rate boxes"....maybe?
$9.80 no matter the weight. These boxes are free at any PO.
How long is the wood cut out? That would determine if the box would work. They come in 3 sizes--the longest one is similar to a shirt box and measures about 15"-16" long--12" wide and 31/2" deep.

Betty, your witch is fantastic! What a cheery, colorful entry into your home. Your home, interior and exterior, is so colorful and inviting it makes me smile with every photo.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Thank you..house is not what I had before, but you know what, I'm so enjoying making it me...everyone who enters actually do say they feel at home, warm and cozy...that's what I'm striving for..lol

Gita will check it out, but am hoping that I can in large envelopes get it into smaller packages..my only concern is the face not breaking so have a few thoughts on that..the armiture comes in parts so can lie flat, dowel thickness...

I'm at it this morning, had wanted to get up and enjoy this fall day finishing all your packages, but bed felt so good never got up until 8:00 what a waste..a little light headed, guess it's the pain killers...hope it's my last week for them...so, as I'm downstairs using the big band saw I'm watching my fingers with every cut...

Will post photo's as I progress....

Oooops, better stop about 10 and make those pies...

I'm right on track with my Thansgiving weekend 'to do' list...that my friends make me very/very happy!

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Betty,
I can understand the fear you have about the face breaking....that's why a box of some kind would work better than an envelope.

What if you wrapped the faces in the hair and beard (instead of bubble wrap) and then put VERY thick cardboard, on top and bottom--the size of the envelope-- and tied/taped it all together? Seems that should protect the faces from any shocks.

How have you mailed it before? You already did this last year.

I know you will think of something......Gita
