Morning, overcast this morning, calling for rain, hobbling along....no pity for me, of my own doing...Missy appreciated the gesture though..lol
Have my 'shopping list' ready for town..funny thing is the only food grocery on the list is milk/coffee/sugar rest is wood/tile trip to Fabricland to get a cost on velvet for 50 victorian santa's, more costing for window, maybe even look for kitchen window then home I come...wether I do any work or not at least I'll have my supplies, half the battle...
Did cut out another witch this morning because I know once some of the girls see the ones beeing made will want one a well..it's very relaxing to set up a paint station while I watch t.v. and sit on the couch..might do my witch..reminds me, she has a shawl painted on her, wouldn't it look cute if I could find a brooch to add from the $$$ store..will have to be on the lookout..
What do you all have planned for today???
Best/Worse &What did I learnt today/Chat with Friends #61
Betty---so we hopped over again! Seems to happen almost once a week....
It has been pouring rain here--all night and still at it! Must be another Hurricane down South causing this! it is warm and muggy, though.
Today--I actually called out from work. Shame on me! This is only the 5th time in 10 years I have done so.
I want to go to the Estonian House (my old stomping grounds) for the showing of the film "The Singing Revolution". It is about the struggle of our little countries to, successfully, topple the Soviet grip on them. We have no armies--so the Countries just started, openly, to sing all the long forbidden and patriotic songs--en masse and the Soviets were helpless in the end to stop this. SO! That WAS the "Revolution".....
Asked my girlfriend to come with me. She has never been to the Estonian House. Nice, little Club we have there!
Tomorrow is our annual Crab Feast at the HD. All you can eat steamed blue crabs!!! RARE treat! Too expensive to buy for me! Sometimes I will pick up 1/2 dozen cold crabs (those left over from the day before) for $1 each.
They are soooo good! Seasoned with Old Bay seasoning!
For those of you who have never had the crabs here around MD and SC--it is a treat---even if a bit "cannibalistic" to watch for the un-initiated.....
Check out these prices!!!!! edited to correct spelling....

You deserve a day off from your schedule to enjoy Gita...I'm not a sea food or fish type person..takes all my time to have halibut with chips..good fishing here on Georgian Bay but I never acquired a taste...
Sounds like a marvellous day especially sharing with a friend..always something new to learn..
Was in town, couldn't find 1/2 of what I wanted so gave up..tile for washroom, none that matched and I sure don't want to start changing everything so passed on that idea...saw a nice light fixture after 4 stores, out of stock..wouldn't you know and he said he couldn't take down the one on display, so not meant to be I guess...
Came home with Kentucky Fried Chicken, ate, Greg dropped in wanting to know if I wanted to go to Barrie, he had some fixtures to pick up for his kitchen...made me PROMISE I wouldn't try to replace the plugs/light fixtures..said he'd do them tonight...did get a couple good shocks yesterday as the lights were on while I worked with no covers, moved them slightly outch..then with wet sponge going around the tile to wipe off group, another couple of good 'ouches' Noah said 'could you have died grandma' I said no, but Greg said ' she could have had a heart attack though' doubt it, think he's just trying to frighten me as he knows I will try anything once..lol..could be the once right..lol...so will wait for him for that part otherwise I'll not hear the end of it...
He brought me back my chop saw so I can cut new window trim..did manage to order a kitchen window with the white cross-overs in them to match the door..getting me a price on the dining room window..says no one in the area can beat his prices so we'll see...Home Depot gave me quote of $899.00 + taxes, couple of hundred more than the other guy so we'll see...said he'd call me at work this week...
Melanie is gone for a 5K race for Cancer fund , Kyle is at a friends so everyone is busy/busy...
Dropped into a few material places..T&G frabrics do not carry real velvet, only velveteen and it's $12.98 yard - 36" wide, Fabricland had beautiful colors, rich maroon, hunter green and royal blue...all together now say "OMG $29.99" yep..asked if I bought a bolt which is 33 yards they will give me 30% off which is a good savings but still..leads me to a problem, some wanted different colors..so will have to say '1 color only' not quite as much fun to see how each progresses but certainly am not paying $29.99...
Better go back upstairs, as soon as I cut - window trim and door trim (floor sill) I must give them a couple coats of 'white'...
It poured here most of the morning and now a light mist..just enough not to allow for outside work...
Gita, enjoy your day, looking forward to hearing about it..
Wow, I just lost a message to cyperspace. I was thanking you Gita for the information on that Jimson weed and teasing Betty about the Colonel and poof!
Where it went no body knows! LOL
I was also mentioning that the both of you are making me hungry and that Blue Crab sounds Heavenly! Some other stuff too, but oh well. I got to take care of some veggies and make salsa
Be back later! : )
Sandra--Betty loses Posts too. You might be careful not to go and open up someone's photo while you are in the middle of typing a reply....
A good practice is to copy/paste everything you just wrote if you need to go look at something else.....
I have also found that sometimes if you click on the "back" arrow, it will take you to a previous screen--and your Post just might be there......Hope!
Gita
Gitagal - my DW#1 was the daughter of a waterman on the york river. In the summer he crabbed and fished, in the winter he oystered. Every four or five years he would turtle.
After I came back from Japan I had an extended leave (30 days) which had to taken in at the time so I helped him work.
The man was a machine.... got up at 3, launched the boat at 4 retrieved the nets and separated the catch til 6 and took the salable fish to the market. Then he stopped for breakfast. After wards he would be back on the water pulling 120 crab pots, as they were pulled, the crabs were separated, the females returned to the water, the males less than size returned, the peelers separated etc. and as each pot was emptied - it was baited with the unsaleable fish from the mornins catch in the gill nets.
There was a brief respite after the crabs were delivered to the cannery and the "peelers"were enclosed" in the trap that was the time for dinner.
Then it was time to set the gill net for the evening. Next morning it would start over with the pulling of that net.
I may have missed a few steps - but you can glimpse this life.
Gita, trying to learn just as you say, as I write I decide I'll look at a photo to comment and yes, puff it's gone...
Ready to go over to Ann's..looking forward to it, but tired so won't stay long, besides there are 4 couples and yep, still feel out of place at times...
Had so many birds at this feeder, most of the afternoon 'Missy' just sat to look at the birdies...
Sandra, what did you end up eating????
Betty,
YES! It is time for me to put out my big feeders for the birds. I hang them under my high Patio roof--so they stay dry and the squirrels cannot get to them.
I feed them too--just don't like them trashing all the bird seed to look for sunflower seeds in there.
Enjoyed the film tonight.....pretty "heavy"--shed a few tears......If it ever comes around your way, try to go see it.
Gita
Dyson we must have crossed posted earlier...thanks for visiting with us, always enjoy as do the others welcoming new friends...sounds as though working on a fishing boat is hard work..have been to the Maritimes and have watched the fishermen, they sure do earn every penny of their take...you'd have to love the sea wouldn't you..and, of course being fit would be a pre-requisite wouldn't it...but at the end of the catch, how wonderful to see...
Gita, that's the problem with the feeders on front deck, squirrels have access and half the seed in on the deck..oh well, price you pay to enjoy watching them..all other feeder are in back yard, unless you are back there or looking down from patio area you don't get to enjoy...
For a person who said she'd only stay an hour or so, I so enjoyed my evening..again hate being odd woman out but it's only in my mind..lovely supper, good company and loads of laughs..Harold even sang a few songs..promised to send me this week 4 of his cd tapes...some lovely tunes, some from downeast...he was the singer I was telling you opened for George Jones, Conway Twitty and played the Grand Ole Opre...hadn't seen him or Juliette for 2 years so was nice going back on some memories...
So my day was not as productive as I had hoped, but I did rest..Gita, just for you...was waiting for you to tell me that my clumsiness, the falls/sore shoulders, turned ankle were because I over tired...guess that means because I rested today, tomorrow I can find myself a project to do..lol
Good night all...
I took sort of a vacation day too. I sat on couch most of the afternoon and evening. Must have dozed for a while because since about 7 PM I have been wide awake. Very unproductive day for me.
Good Sunday to everyone.
Ruby
Ruby we all need those kinds of days..tossed/turned around from 3 to 4:30..finally thought what to heck, might as well do something productive, so downstairs in the studio, tidying up, have several projects sitting there, just made a coffee, going to sweep the sawdust in workshop and then I'm free to play all day..do hope it's a sunshine day in my world and in yours!
Betty--
I would never chastise you for falling......It is hard when that happens....
I don't think it is your clumsiness at all. I think you rush too much--that is apparent from all you write us and tell us what you do each day.
You are NOT a young chick any more----Learn to S-L-O-W- D-O-W-N!!!!!!
You know that old saying? "Haste makes waste"?????
Hope you are on the heal!
Re your feeders--buy a squirrel baffle and put it on the post that holds the feeder. The squirrels will never make it up there------too "baffled" how to....:o)
Our HD sells them wherever the bird seed is sold.
Gita
Morning to all,
It really feels like fall this weekend.
I have had my two youngest grandaughters with me since Friday afternoon.
Yesterday we went to the lake and then a drive a little more into the countryside. Came upon this stand selling pumpkins etc. It was an honour system to pay.... put your money in the box and make your own change.
We bought a pumpkin and three squash. We will make a fall display on the front step today. This is Dana choosing the pumpkin.
They are really lovely girls, Starzz. Sounds as though you all had a good time yesterday. Imagine coming upon that cart full of goodies and on the honor system to boot.
I slept way later than usual today, so I am really behind. I have almost finished up reading the forums, so I will then get up and start stirring a bit. I want to vacuum up the dog hair before my granddaughter somes to visit today.
I hope that everyone will have a very good Sunday.
Ruby
Gorgeous, Gorgeous, Sweet girls, Starzz. Is that Christmas pic already of this year? LOL If it is, you got way more energy than I do. LOL
Betty, DH and I ended up going to the local meat market and bought some bacon, hamburger, sausage and two much anticipated Filet Mignon. Brought them home and wrapped a piece of bacon around them and well, I will never buy them again. : ( Toughest filets I have ever had. Sweet corn was good tho, and of course my tomatoes. : )
Gitagal, I think since I am on a laptop that I may have inadvertantly pressed something because it was really wierd when I lost that message. Cause as you know I was typing in the message box and if I had scrolled up, I would have been in the thread, but what happened is the thread opened in a different box like you know when the threads get to long, somebody well inform us to go to the next hyperlink. So the thread opened in a new box. Does that make sense? LOL It just was really weird. Oh Well.
Hello all, thought it should be about 4pm by now..that's what happens when you have your regular house duties done by 7:00 pm...
Started to do the sign for Mel, just wording so shouldn't take more than another coat or two..did bit of work on my birdfeeder, Greg dropped in to change the plugs (didn't come last night as mom was not home) 'where did you go Mom, you always are at home...'..hmmm maybe I'm too predictable..lol kitchen is back to normal all except the special spray for the tiles but it has to be 72 hrs. after grouting so Tuesday night I'll wipe this spray on tiles..and done, called in to Timbr mart and ordered the light fixture I wanted so that project is done...
When I was at Fabricland yesterday, was looking for new cutain material for window and back door..couldn't believe price of yardage..none matched and it didn't hurt my feelings
Sat on the couch to eat a muffin I had just baked, must have got too comfy and fell asleep, so had a little snooze..Ann and Juliette dropped in otherwise I was quite content to just spend the afternoon on the couch with remote and t.v.
Start of Melanie's sign...she wants it plain - still have trim and recoat the lettering...
Melanie is in Toronto today doing the 5K run for cancer, then has to go to funeral home..young 22 year old hung himself on the front tree in front of his house...younger brother found him...so tragic..Melanie used to babysit him! Poor child...prayers for the family!
Melanie certainly has had an emotional week, what with getting the Award re Autism Society, the the run, then the funeral home..up/down/up/down...will certainly have to give her a hug...maybe have them over for supper that way she can eat without worrying about cooking..know Kyle has to be picked up at Cadet camp at 4:00..if they'd like I could pick him up...
Well, grocery store is waiting..coming back to tell you all how much I enjoyed yours posts today...
quick sec..
Hi all. So we've had afunlast few days. Where do I begin....
So Thursday night DH and I are watching TV about 10pm and Sailor hopes up and gets sick. She continues to get sick thru the night until I finnally get up at 1am and tell DH I'm taking her to the emergency vet (which luckily is 7 mins down the road!). Did I mention that outside we were having a wonderful nor'easter? I was pouring and windy and yucky. So I brave the elemnets and head to the vet at 1:45am. They take her right back and gave her some fluids under the skin and something to settle her stomach and also stop the nausea. Poor thing was so weak from all the vomiting and dehydration! Got back home at 3am and fell instantly asleep! (While I was at the vet, I emailed my boss and told him I was going to be late Friday morning). When I got up Friday morning, my boss had emailed me back and told me to not worry about coming in and to just work from home. (have I told you how awesome my boss is??) Stayed home with Sailor and she was so weak in the morning. I didn't give her anything to eat until lunch time and then it was some rice and cottage cheese. She kept it down which was wonderful so later I gave her a little more plus a couple of pieces of boiled chicken. She slowly came back to her normal self and started to play in the afternoon. The doc said it was probably just a stomach bug - he palpated her tummy and no tenderness so nothing was blocked. So Friday night was "normal".
Got up at 6am Saturday morning because we were having a garage sale. Made $350 which helped pay for the vet bill and groceries! Fast forward to last night. Sailor and Murphy go out to do their business about 9pm and then come in and play. About a half hour later I look at Sailor and her right eye is huge and swollen shut. I'm like OMG, now what!!! It is so swollen I can't even pry it open to see if something is in there. DH then notices a bump on her muzzle right behind her nose. We figure she has been bitten by a spider when she was outside. I have Benydril but only capsuls and I have no idea how much to give for her weight so DH looks up on the web and everything said to get her to a vet to be on the safe side. So at 10pm on Saturday night, I make my second visit to the emergency vet in 3 days! I walk in and say "we're baaaaack!" So they gave her a shot of Benydril and we're in and out in less then 30 mins which is amazing if you know anything about emergency vets! So $90 later, we're home and Miss Sailor is fast asleep! So it was nice to sleep till 10:30 this morning and I'm hoping that we can avoid the vet (for an emergency) for awhile!
So here's Miss Sailor on her first emergency vet visit. The techs were having fun with her...
Thanks Ruby and Sandra for the kind comments on my grandaughters.
They are such fun to have around..their Mum and Dad came and picked them up about an hour ago.
Hayley can now cut grass using the lawn tractor..yesterday was just her getting used to it....today I let her put the blades down and actually cut. Dana and I used the push mower to do the trimming. We cut the neighbour's property..they are away.
Sandra...I keep the rec room decorated all year for Christmas..I don't use it much the rest of the year....and one year I just decided why pack all the stuff up and put it away...
Betty..your kitchen window looks good with the trim..it will really look great with the mutton bars in the new one.
This is a photo of my Bugbane "Brunette"..It smells wonderful.
Where did you plant your two that you bought when you were here?
Hi Jeannine..we cross- posted....what a wild few days..
having pets can become very expensive..fast!
Good thing you had that yard sale.
I met another Jeannine at the swimming pool when I was there last week..thought of you and your dogs when she told me her name..you know..associate somethign with a person's name..so you can reember. My frined Sheila and I are meeting so many new ladies there at the new recreation complex.
Sailor looks so cute!!!
OMG Jeannine, poor Sailor girl, one thing after another, better you be having more garage sales, you might need the $$$ for more of her adventures..so cute...spider bite, now who would have thought of that....tell your boss he's a sweetie...
Love the photo's Carol of the girls, not only did you have fun but they were helpful to grandma, more chores down, and keeping your neighbors yard done as well...time consuming to say the least...
The bugbane...planted one in the garden where the door frame sunburst is and the other on the side of the back deck .. really wanted to plant the 2 there, but mega shovelling of snow, didn't think it would survice...but the entire yard smells wonderful when it's in bloom...late bloomers aren't they, just like my white lace vine...I'm just so excited with it, going to purchase a few more next weekend while I'm in Meaford...
Greg just dropped in, said he'd be here for supper as soon as Noah's hockey is over at 5:30..boys aren't fussy on stew so now I'm looking for whatever is easy so they will enjoy a nice meal as well...in our day were we not told 'eat what I cook or you'll have a hungry tummy?'
Playing with Mel's sign, gave the wording another coat and now I'm doing the trim..
OHHHH did I tell you all I met an old girlfriend from Port Severn- when I lived on the lake, once I moved we'd see each other here and there, she had a younger family so was busy, DH drives a transport truck...anyway she's moved just 2 streets up from me, we gabbed for about 15 minutes, she's just so sweet...anyway, she was on her way to work but will visit shortly...I'm just so excited over this....
Well, better get my act into gear...get more done..
Carol, you'll have to get yourself a calendar to mark all those fun things you'll be planning with these new friends...nice isn't it..you seem to be truly enjoying the swimming and meeting new friends...wonderful!
One day when I finally retire, will do same...lol
Carol you didn't plant yours??? did mine, should I have?
Juliette who visited earlier loved the gardens but almost all is gone, so not a good visual..told her to come back this spring...maybe we should purchase some silk flowers for the off season..lol
Betty,....
I haven't planted my Gentian yet..but will soon..I keep it on the deck table to admire close up.
You're a little ahead of me weather wise I think..I still have some colour in the gardens.
I just went out and picked a small bouquet of Asters and some Japanese Anenome to add to the three roses I picked yesterday.
We are colder and think we've been hit by frost..thank goodness I didn't wait, brought some plants indoors, but think they have a better chance of surviving the elements..think you remember the dead branches right..lol but this year I'm truly going to try and keep up with them...
Must take a walk over to Bernice's tonight if they are home..she's giant geraniums that I said I'd overwinter (for me)...had luck with them the past 2 years..they are just so big though, 3 could almost fill the back room...
Putsing around, best go upstairs and check on the corn and stew..wouldn't want Greg and the boys to come home to burnt supper now would I...
Just popping in to say hello to everyone. Sounds like several of you are feeling poorly. Hope it's all better by now. This is the time of year my allergies kick in. Usually by mid Oct I'm hoping for a hard freeze! :-)
Sailor is so cute. Makes me want one worse than ever. I'm glad she's feeling better.
Hi Sandra!
How is Miss Sailor doing? She is too cute.
Hi Cat : )
Betty, looks like you had a wonderful group of guests and a fantastic evening. It's a little cooler here but no frost yet.
Greg and the boys just left..Greg did a few things for me..Kyle played on computer and Noah complained of a sore arm...took a look and he had a wrist band on that was so tight it was stopping circulation..said he made it at camp and didn't want to take it off...but was able to convince him...
We agreed that next time they are coming over on the weekend I'll plug in the hand wax machine and we'll give our hands a treat..so funny, wanted to do it 'right' away..explained how long for the parafin wax to melt so left with a smile that we'll do our hands and feet..treat ourselves...Kyle was full of new about his weekend camp trip with the Cadets...
Greg well he was just plain tired...
So it's been an enjoyable weekend, as usual I'm tired by Sunday night and it's late so will say goodnight..hoping you all had an enjoyable weekend...
Good Lord willing we'll talk tomorrow...
Morning, here 1 hr. early, Suzanne had some paper work to do and it's much simpler for me to still drive in with her versus making the trip on my own..eating my western sandwich and having coffee while gabbing to you all...
Don Valley Hwy. closed this morning, drunk driver travelling at high speeds going northbound in a southbound lane...shouldn't be allowed to drive again..that's 3 of same situation in past month...
Gloomy out there this morning, but they are calling for sunshine later today..would have been a good day to cuddle up with a blanket, t.v. on and rest...maybe I can do same here...lol..got the pillow, t.v. - crochet afghan isn't quite long enough to cover me but perhaps my knees can be warm...
Carol, much the same color in my neck of the woods....so pretty..my burning bushes are so red/maroon..pretty...now comes the raking...I've a zillion acorns on the front lawn, love the large trees but boy it's a lot of work to clean it up..
Need a lawnmower set up Carol like you have, the 'sweeper' bet you are finding clean-up a sinch...
It's hard to imagine that October is but days away..months are just flying by...
Now we know what I'm up to today, how about all of you..want to enjoy some of your day as I'm office bound..
Are you all sleepy heads this morning...
Thought you were all sleeping in this morning, but as it's almost 5:00pm I'm going to put out an SOS for Missing in Action thread members..lol
