Artists in the NE forum - show us your work

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Wow, those are gorgeous, tamberlin! Amazing! Feel free to post as many as you want. I'd love to see more.

Victor, your son is a budding artist. That's great!

I have been wanting to do some ceramic mosaics for my garden. I have a path where I want to put one, and then I'd like to do some stepping stones as well. The only problem is finding the time, and I don't have the room to do it, either.

Those are beautiful cards, Anita. Don't say you don't have talent. Hey, we all have talent, at least when it comes to gardening, that is. Everyone has some kind of talent.

Ge - I love your watercolors! One of my plans, when I had my garden going, was to paint it - in watercolor, I can't do oils. All seasons, close ups of individual flowers, scenes, etc. I have yet to do it. I spend a lot of time weeding and thinking instead. The compliments from passersby and neighbors have brought me to realize that the garden really is a work of art in it's own right, one that is constantly evolving.....
Picabo - Here is another scarf....also, my website is www.debfdesigns.com. You can't purchase through the site so I'm technically not advertising, right???

I have played with Pastels, oil and acrylic painting. Like to take my own photographs and then paint in one of the above mediums.

Beautiful, Betty! Glad you found our post. Personally, I'm fine with you posting pics of your art here, even though you're not a northeast gardener. I'm sure everyone else will feel the same.

Picabo,
"I am not a Northeast Gardener" yes you are, we have a saying here in the NE forum....everyone is Northeast of somewhere, so everyone is a Northeast Gardener and everyone is welcome here!
Beautiful choice too! Fairy was the perfect thing to post IMHO. ^_^

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

Some very beautiful paintings, scarves and quilts!

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

Amazing samples of your souls everyone! I so believe art comes from the soul.
Picabo...that's a quilt???? You have more?
Tamberline, I am in awe with what you can do with silk. Is it a hard medium to work with?

Tamberlin - You paint those scarfs? How do you wash them?

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

I wash them in the washing machine! I use silk dyes and a water based resist. Each scarf/pillow/shawl/painting is washed at least 2x - once before painting and once after the finished painting has been steamed to set the dyes. The colors are bonded on a molecular level with the protein fibers of the silk during the steaming process.

Its not too hard once you figure out what you are doing. Squeezing the application tube to apply the resist takes some practice - it's what my kids seem to have the hardest time doing when they want to try. The rest is patience, trial and error.

On an experimental note, I'm trying dyeing wool and silk yarn with mushrooms, bark and plants this fall. Nothing to show yet. Hopefully I'll get enough to make a pair of mittens out it it!

Picabo - I LOVE your fairy quilt! I've tried quilting, but sewing is not my strongest skill (not by a long shot!). Do you sell you work?

I like this flower Jewelry and paintings.

Nashville, TN(Zone 6b)

Thanks for the welcome. I usually hang out in the MidSouth forum and we welcome everyone there.

Anitabryk... Yes, that is a wall hanging quilt about 36" x 48". I did it for a contest at our quilt guild. It is made from three different fabrics and some fabric dying to get the shadows. The flower at the top is 3 dimensional. The rest is stitching and beads to give texture. Yes, I have lots more, they go from this size to a King size Twelve Days of Christmas quilt. That will have thousands of beads when finished before Christmas (I hope, LOL).

Deb... Have you ever tried dying with black walnut hulls? No, I usually don't sell my things. People are always wanting to buy things that I make, I just don't concentrate on one thing long enough to have much to sell.

Here is a piece of Raku pottery that I made.

Picabo - I was thinking about walnut hulls. I don't have a black walnut in the neighborhood, but there is an English walnut tree up the street (squirrel central). I just started soaking birch bark and crushed oak galls - the oak galls are giving up color pretty quickly! Still waiting for my mordants and yarn to come in the mail....

Cool stuff, eh?

I love fairies. I paint them occasionally, but the crowd around here leans to mermaids. My girls were into fairy houses and the like a few years ago. Now they are teenagers and totally jaded.

Nashville, TN(Zone 6b)

We have Lots of Black Walnuts and would be glad to send you some hulls if the squirrels haven't already taken them away. LOL

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Beautiful work everyone. I sooo enjoy seeing everyone's talents.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Deb, do you make each piece/scarf to order, or are there things you keep
"in stock"? Gorgeous, everyone - I can't get over what a talented bunch we are!

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Welcome, Betty! As you can see from the art displayed on this thread, there's plenty of good stuff - and nice people - on this Forum.

Liza - I really love your dog photo. What a handsome guy, and what a nice way for you to work through your grief when you lost him.

I will say it again......Very impressive, everyone!!!

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Tamberlin, I just checked out your website. I absolutely love your work! I wish I could afford to buy something. Maybe someday. I have always loved fantasy, and anything to do with gardening, of course, and trees and leaves.

Karen

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

Hi, Betty. You are very welcome here. Fairies and quilts are 2 of my favorite things. That is lovely.

Liza, the paintings of your granddaughter and your beloved dog are wonderful. It's obvious that your love poured into them.

Anita, so glad you posted here. I hadn't looked at your cards in a while. There are so many new ones I could spend all day there. Beautiful!

JoAnn, 4"? I should try doing some small pieces. Those are so pretty.
