lol, no, just if they were white, they wouldn't be fungus gnats... I think H202 and a few drops of dish soap (NOT the antibacterial kind) should deter them, or safers soap, pour some on top of the pots, too, to kill any eggs that may have been laid.. gnats is better than white flies.. Sandy, how cute and sounds like that lil darlin is yours to raise and provide a positive influence too! But I'm still lighting my place up tonight.. Peg, Joyce maybe can add to her list now, but I just can't... lol Good natural remedy tho, I don't have my journal here with me, or I'd write that down. (gettin around here on DG, I see...... I had to ban myself from the Hibiscus and Plant Trading forum) Billie, don't know what month you were in Mo, but in summer, the humidity is as high as the temperature... I live about 100 miles further west.. Phyllis, it's tomatoes... don't grow them near your dats or brugs... Tomatoes carry Mosaic virus... Our beloved trumpets are member of the tomato family. All parts of tomatoes plants (not the fruits) are poisonous, too. It's been a day, hotties... can't wait to get home and light torches..
She's About To...........#19
zone 7 AuntB.
FIRST OF ALL LET ME SAY I'M NOT SELLING ANYTHING. BUT I STILL HAVE LOTS OF DL'S TO GIVE TO PPL THAT WANT THEM. THE AVERAGE POSTAGE IS ABOUT $6.80. JUST D-MAIL ME AND TELL ME THAT U WANT SOME. I WILL TAKE UR NAME AND ADDRESS, THEN SEND ME THE POSTAGE AND I'LL SEND THE DL'S TO U. I SIMPLY CAN'T AFFORD TO PAY SHIP PREPAID. I WILL NOT RIP U OFF. ASK KAREN, SHE GOT HERS AND SENT ME MY POSTAGE BACK. TYVM KAREN.
Thanks AuntB and everyone else. We are not completely out of the woods yet. But hopefully the judge reads between the lines of this report, goes on the recommendations of the guardian and realizes Chelsea isn't ready yet. Scary thing is that she had told the guardian she was ready to get custody back tomorrow and had a day care provider already set up near her home. How terrible for a little girl 22 months old to all of a sudden be ripped from the only home she has ever known and taken from the people who love her. I can't believe just how mean my only daughter can be.
I was just curious, Wolfie, thought you might be 6. So you're in 7 and brugs can be planted in the ground and regrow themselves in spring... or I guess we'll know next spring.. Peggy, I'm not mentioning a word about slugs...
Karen I've been meaning to ask, what kind is that brug you started the thread with? I just love the "layered" look! It's just gorgeous... Thanks on the DL's Wolfie, and it's just fine to ask for postage first... I'd even include a label... but I'm too far behind the way it is.
Aunt B, I read that you shouldn't grow brugs around any of the Solan. family members including petunias and impatiens because of Mosaic disease.
Do you know how much peroxide to put in say a cup of water?
Hey hotties. Sandra glad you had a good vacation we were worried. Congrats too! Bonnie look at my bud pic farther up the thread! I have another brug Y'ing. Been busy bringing some plants in too. Mostly the hoyas and really tender stuff. Leaving the brugs out as long as I can. It was windy here today and my poor brugs are looking a little tattered from all the windy days.
Hello All...
Question: How old, or how big should the Brug be befor planted in the ground? And..my ground ir HARDD red clay, what should I do to make the soil livable for my babies? (When they get grown)
Lighting a candle and praying for you and little Amiyah.
For clay soil I would use compost, leaves and peat moss worked into the soil (working in some manure wouldn't hurt either). Also, in worst case scenarios gypsum can be added but before you do this, have the soil analyzed and they will tell you if you need amendments like gypsum.
Now would be a great time to till in amendments to get ready for next year.
Hi hotties and good evening to all!
First of all spoke to Donnita this morning and hopefully she will be feeling better soon, Recover fast Donna we need you areound here!
And I am so happy for Sandy and getting to keep AMiya, one thing off your mine, so glad for ya my friend!
Philiis I thought you had lived near by where I am. I can understand why you do not like Elizabeth, when I went there once, well, the houses were way too close together and near a lot of factories! Where I live, although I do not have those big properties you all hotties have, it is a lovely town full of grown trees all over.
Aunt B, you are right Copo is a lucky, wha did you call him doggie??? NOT, my four legged son, hee hee.
Peg, I agree with you before throwing ammonia to the plants, I would be carefull. I'll rather trow slug killer and let it be. Those little creatures manage to come back anyhow. And hey here is the famous coconut babana pie, we should be having it tomorrow for DH birthday. Thank you Peg for sharing this with me! DId I do something wrong , does it look right?
BECKIE, WHAT you lost the bud????? You did not tell me girl
And hello to everyone else, sorry if I did not mentioned you, but I love all.
Thank you brseaton, this soil is so hard we have to take a pick, hatchet, axe LOL and anything else with a point to dig it out 1 spoonfull at a time. When it rains, the water stands, does not soak in for a very long time. Will even evaporate before soaking in. All my plants are in raised beds, that is why I do not have many.
Hey to all the Hotties. I been lurking and laughing. AuntB,I didn't do nuttin, honest, that darn Beck♥I have just caught up with the current Hottie threads and now I have to go back and see what Beck did to get all those other threads agoin, and Phyllis, I hope no more stray cats show up here or I would have done the same thing as you♥poor, tender heart♥
Behave yourselves you wondrous Hotties☺and a great big Hottie WELCOME to all you newbies☺
I will light a candle and be praying Sandra☼

Faye.. that's my question too..
Terri.. you sound soo much like I was in my younger days with DH.. I learned to just do it myself..LOL
TTYL!!
There is a non toxic slug bait. Won't hurt your pets, it is called escar-go. You can buy it online.
Hey Hotties!! girls and guys : ) really pooped tonight...pie looks yummy Clemen! Sandy the candles are burning for you!! love to you all!!
ZZzzzzzzzzz............
Clem....growing up in Elizabeth was nice when I was little...
But when I hit my teens it was really getting bad...lots of crime...Overflowing from Newark and Port Elizabeth..
And it just got worse from there..
Was in a store once at the register and a girl was shop lifting and the man behind the register pulled out a gun..
At one time it was pointed at me..
Wanna see your life flash in front of your eyes??
I did that day...
My parents moved to a quieter neighborhood but it followed...
One night they got woken up with 2 guys trying to break in and they had guns..
Thank god for the safety chains..
Not for me...and my brothers say it's gotten worse now...
Hey all, I am tired and coughing from working in the old shed all day. It was very dusty and a little moldy in there with lots of junk to throw away (the trash man WONT be happy with me ☺) just to get through the door. It has been our junk shed for years. My daughter Taylor helped and we made short work of it. I am very happy. All clean and ready to buy the shop lights and plant bulbs at Walmart and I will have a nice little greenhouse.
The reason I asked about Brugs in pots in a greenhouse in my zone......I am going to leave the stumps in the ground to overwinter here, they do well. But I am going to root cuttings, and then pot them up in the greenhouse to continue to grow.
Question: on a Brug cutting that is starting to mature, how can you tell where the Y is going to form when it just looks like a bunch of leaves on top? Most of my leaves are straight into the stem, but one leave is attached sort of at a Y angle. Is this what I'm looking for to mature and create the Y?
Bonnie, that beautiful Brug picture I filched from Google is a Dr Suess.....stunning, isn't it? I can dream........sigh..........

The growing point is what you want. However the base if decapitated will still make a Y too when it is ready.
Hey hotties good evening! The pie will be served tomorrow with whipped cream, DH is turning less than 50 ok, and I am much younger hee, hee! So tomorrow eveyone can have a taste, promise, this is all Peg's fault, her recipe!
Phillis that sounds scary growing up in Elizabeth, I have never experienced that in my life, except, when we had to leave our home countrry due to comunism! Godd bless America, love this place!
Luoise, there are several products on the market that do not hurt dogs or wild life. I havebought some even at home depot, although darling Copo never eats anything that does not come from his mama, me, but hey you never know. Need to be carefull.
Karen, don't prune your brugs yet until you need to. I will do mine in the Spring like I usually do unless they are giants and you just cannot bring them in!
beckie how is my girl??
Louise...What about all the stems growing/coming off the main trunk...would any of them be considered y's...??
no the little side branches or tiny plantlets are not Y's . When they Y you know it. My first time with brugs this year and there is no mistaking a Y. I have two with Y's and eight with no Y's. If you are not sure post a pic of the plant and we can advise more.
Clemen, Your four legged son Copo is such a pretty child. His name amazes me, I had a Peknegse that was named Poco. I had him for 10 yrs. and he was my child too. A German shepherd came into my yard, straddled Poco and with his teeth crushed Poco's ribs into his lungs. That was the most horrable thing I've ever had to experience. I held him in my arms on the way to the Vet. Hospital with him screaming. I thought my heart was being torn out of my chest. Poco didn't make it, but his memory will never die. He was beautiful. Now I have a 9 month old cross, Peknegse and Shih Tzu. He is my precious spoiled four footed son, my little heart.
Meet Snese, my baby!
Good night all! Love ye!
When your brug or dats "Y" you will know it. Just imagine a little stick figure with her arms up in the air getting all excited. When one branch or stem, becomes 2 seperate stems going out from each other...
Linda Kay
Faye, oh my, your story with POCO, so so sorry, but now you have a darlng Snese to keep you company. you know people say how much work and sacrifice it is to have a pooch, but hey the love they give you is so unconditional and wonderfull! I cannot imagiine my life without mine eventhoug it is a sacrifice to have him sometimes!
Got at least one of them I think will post a pic tomorrow i'm off to zzzzzzz"s nite
oh Faye what a horrible story about your baby!!! I cannot even imagine! I would be devastated if anything happened to my Rosie. Your Snese is just adorable!!! What a cutie pie! He looks like chewbacca!! I love him! Clemen, it is amazing how much our four footed kids mean to us!
zzz zzz zzz and more zzz for now, and yeah Louise, those little babies, how much can we love them. Mine just gives me the EYE look and I melt and kiss him all and all over. Night night my friends and love to all Clem
Hey d mail for the recipe, i cannot forget!
Okay, peeled myself off the couch... The H202 is 1 part peroxide to 3 parts water and a few drops of the dish soap... Clemen sweet girl, I meant SON Copo.. :) That pie smells GREAT! ;) Happy Birthday to your DH! Faye your lil Snese is adorable too. What a traumatic thing to happen with little Poco.. we never forget our precious 4-legged family members... Remember the Rainbow Bridge Wolfie posted a couple threads back... thank you again Wolfie.. it brought me great comfort.
Donna, what did the doc have to say today? I will call you tomorrow from work if I don't see a post, deary. (((Karen))) I have exchanged numbers with some of you hotties, and I can be the keeper of any who wish to. I missed Joyce the other day, and asked Louise about her, she said she'd seen her post on another thread somewhere, so I knew she was prolly just busy.... (phew! was I right, she's got ALL her tropical paradise inside except the brugs) We all get busy, but when you Hotties up and take a spur of the moment vacation (you know who you are ;), it causes all sorts of things to go through my mind... I will move a candle to a safe place and it will burn all night for little Amiyah.. she looks so cute riding a pony for the first time..
Karen, I had a Dr. Seuss, the 2nd or 3rd year I had brugs... poor guy succumbed due to my ignorance over winter.. but the few blooms I got were lovely. (FYI Hotties: I decided to give up on the boss, I'm looking for a new one)
Lu and Phyllis, do you know a nursery in Malvern called Main Line Gardens? Supposedly, they've been in business 28 years...I sent my resume to them for a Perennial Plant Mgr position... yep, I'd relocate if the money is right... it's time for this ol AuntB to make some changes... I know it would be hard work, but I'd be doing something I have a passion for, (and maybe I could start a tropicals section!). I need to zzzzzzzzz too, tomorrow is a new day... Niight Hotties

That is a link to my place before and after pics of my place during Hurricane Ike...
I finally got power this morning and I am in my home now..just wish my hubby would come home..he is working for Centerpoint Energy from 5am to 9pm and no days off until all this blows over..but my son did come home from South Korea(he in the Army) to a mess...
Moodene, your pictures tell your story. I am so sorry this damage was visited on you and your fellow Texans.
At least your home is still standing and you are here to tell the tale.
Good luck and I will be thinking of you all.
Good Luck Sandy♥I will keep the candle burning and the Lantern lit to help you find your way♥May the Hottie Force be with you♥
AuntB, I have not heard of Main Line Gardens, but if they are smart, they will grab you up in a♥beat☺Bring them here to the Hottie Network and we will tell them what a super Plantlady you are☼
Y'all are so sweet. NOt a moment to spare. Thank you and God Bless. We are out of here!
Go Sandy, Go Sandy.... we'll be here waiting for the good word. Lu love that pic, looks like Little House on the Prairie! lol Nadine, haven't looked at your pics yet, Tell your DH people really do appreciate the long hours people like him spend in times like this... we had Kentucky people up here last winter during the ice storm... if I could have made it safely to them on foot, they would have had some cookies and a warm liquid refreshment... And a big warm welcome home to your son and great appreciation for his selfless committment, too.. hugs to your whole family..
lilsista, my "Y"s are at the top of the plant. Let me see if I can find a picture of one
What tops...they done broke off from getting knocked over by the wind....LOL
They were mmy naked topless ladies...
Was gonna ask if that might make a difference....
