I think what cuttings I have left (if any), I will post a thread and offer to new DG people. Gotta create a few more addicts you know!!! LOL
She's About To...........#19
cat never even knew purple passion came in a variegated!!
Hey girlies... and Handsome's( that's you men!)
Donna... somehow, "some" of us get off scott free... and then SOME of us get the blame..hehe I guess that's life.. I did work a lil while this morning, and then went to see Momma.. so I am just getting in.. sorry ya'll haven't had a few chuckles today..LOL
cat.. wow.. some lovelies there.. wish I had the room cause there are several I'd like to try good luck on the amarylis co op! I always admire ya'll that take on those co ops!!
Bonnie.. master brug wonder!! I bow to you ( I want something in my Christmas stocking..so I am sucking up...LOL) My poor brug blooms fell off.. how long do each flower usually last? And do the seed pods start from the flower, cause the whole thing fell off.. just curious... are you not feeling well.... and I am missing something??
Peg.. are you still sick?? I have to keep up with you now.. so I need to know what's going on when ya'll don't come back home for awhile!! I was NOT going to enlarge that pic of yours.. but something made me do it .. hehe.. gosh those are really pretty!!
Linda Kay... remember I just put my brugs in the ground maybe 3 weeks ago... then I dug the one up that had the buds??? I couldn't believe how that plant had put on roots, no longer than they were in the ground! OK.. I think I would go ahead and just put them in the ground.... no pot, and maybe fertilize them to get the roots started. I am still going to take cuttings, and root them here in the house. That way, IF they don't make it ( since I planted a lil late) I can start over with the cuttings. Here they die back in the winter but come back out in the spring. In your zone, they should do even better in the ground, than in a pot. Course it depends on how big yours are, and how many roots they have too. A couple of mine aren't very big, and I might dig them up instead of take cuttings. I still have 7 to plant in the ground They are my largest ones. Here's hoping!!
weese... wow those buds have grown!! I am glad you have a positive attitude!! Can't cry over spilt milk.. right??
I cross posted with so many of you..lol I peck at this puter..lol
Karen.. I know.. I can't believe it's slipping up on us!! I am excited to see you again too! Aww.. don't worry about the loquat.. he's probably a lil sad cause you dug him up..lol... you hang in there... tomorrow is the first day of the rest of your life!! I have been worried about Sandy too. Isn't tomorrow the day in court??
cat.... that's sweet you being a lil enabler..lol
now see if we had collected all the phone numbers we would know what was going on!
Oh Cat, I would love to have the orange sunshine if it has not been spoken for? Thank you so much.
Linda Kay
Hope he makes a good guard dog??? LOL
How cute!
Good nite all
Linda Kay
Louise I offered to collect the phone numbers and share a copy with Bonnie but not one person wrote me...I guess maybe people are afraid for their numbers to get out? Clementine what a beautiful poochie? What's it's name?
Guess it's time for this old lady to turn in also....It's been a long day. Love ya'll!
Guess I missed that post? Are you personally taking everyone numbers, for a just in case number?
Linda Kay
No Clemen, I didn't know that but I'll make sure I don't call you that again, k? I've also never seen Copo before...I just joined the hotties a few weeks ago so I'm still learning, be gentle with me haha!
Linda Kay we were discussing last week right before Ike everyone that wanted to sharing their phone number by email to either Bonnie or me so that the group would have some way to contact you if we were ever worried....Seemed like a good idea, I just never heard from anyone, don't know if Bonnie did or not.
Dear Hotties and Handsomes..
Just a gentle reminder....
"On September 23, 2008, We go in front of the Judge again for a Final Hearing in who will raise this child. I ask each and everyone of you all to light a candle for Amiyah on the 22nd. " quoted from Sandy.
Here's mine. Love, Peg

Good day everyone, busy monday!
Ilove jesus99 (Sandy2) posted on # 17 last night if you missed it...
She's okay but has a big mess
Morning Clemen! Love you too hon! Sandy I am lighting a candle for Amiyah today and saying many prayers. I've had several Dmail me their phone numbers and I'm putting them in a safe place. I will be out most of today, I have a storage shed that was converted to a room for my oldest daughter awhile back....Has 4 small windows and is sheet rocked wall and ceiling. I'm cleaning it out and going to use it for a green house this winter. I'm getting shop lights from WalMart and putting plant bulbs in them, hanging low.
I have a friend that is giving me a large electric heater and I'm buying one of those timers that will turn the heater on when the temperature goes freezing, and off when it reaches 45. http://www.horse.com/Farm-Ranch-Supplies/Heated-Buckets-Deicers/Thermo-Cube-for-De-Icers-BEW19.html
I have never had a greenhouse........Can I root Brugs in water in there or does that have to be an inside job? Would this arrangement be allright for storing potted Brugs or seedlings if I had them?
Love you all and have a great day!
Have a bloom on what is suppose to be a triple brug, it has slowly been opening for 3 days now! Noticed also that my ginger has two blooms forming. I have never seen either one of these bloom. They better open up before I go out of town or DH will have to take pictures for me but it just wouldn't be the same.
Saturday finished the garden room, except for adding a rod for hanging baskets. Yeah! I will have to post pics. It turned out better than I could of imagined! DH worked so hard on it. I am thinking about putting those rubber interlocking blocks they have for kids on the floor. They will warm the concrete, be kind to my tootsies, and I can pull them up and wash them easily when I make a mess.
Already have two winter projects, one building a center island in the garden room with my antique cast iron dumpster sink built in and second building a tool hanging cover on the outside of the garden room. Found a really great plan and I am sure I can build it myself. After building the covered glider this should be a breeze.
Sunday worked like a crazy person getting plants in the garden, solar room, and second floor. Have probably 95% done. Every time I wheeled the wheel barrel to the garden room and the house I would look at the perennials and think why does a person in zone 5 grow tropicals! I could be just sitting and watching the butterflies! I made a list of what I have left to move so I wouldn't forget. Was thinking maybe I could leave the big brugs outside and have DH take them in if the temps dropped while I was gone and then I came to my senses....LOL
Werewolf would love to have those metal chairs if you weren't so far away. They would look great in front of my new play house.
Mike, I love that brug New Orleans! It is beautiful.
Close for now, zone 11 wanna be....LOL
Wolfie, scroll to the top, and click on mail. I am sending you a d-mail in a few.
Linda Kay
Morning!!
wolfie... I have my GDaddies ol chair. He sat in it so much that his sweat on his arms really pitted the arms on the chair, but I wouldn't take anything for it, and I also have an old iron chair from my childhood that had the cut out design in it! Love them both!
Karen.. you lucky thing you.. don't know about the brug cuttings, but I don't see why they wouldn't work in there with the lights
Joyce... what I'd give for your pretty room! I bet it is looking really nice!! Can't wait to see pics!
Peg.. thanks for reminding me.. I thought it was today for Sandys court date.. Now I am wondering if she got any damage from Ike.. and maybe no power??
Phyllis.. glad to know Sandy2 is ok! That kind of damage can at least be taken care of easily.. even though we might not want to get out there and rake it all up..LOL.. speaking for myself here..LOL
Good Morning Hottie Sis's & Bro's! :) Sorry, had to get my old knees (and bum toe) up last night, I was bushed after moving the hibs to another area, watering, running errands... Joyce, you ARE on this winter prep thing, Lady! How organized and coordinated you are! I think you would be fine to leave your brugs outside till after next weekend.... do a 10-day forecast for your area on weather.com... (and I can always go supervise/check up on them after the RU Sat, ;) I have a toe check-up on Thurs, so I hope to take the rest of the day at home to make RU food and get plants rounded up and ready to pack in the car Friday night.... Sandy, I will light every torch and some candles, too tonight and think positive thoughts for you and Amiyah.
I do have emergency contact numbers for a few of you hotties.... I've spoke with a few of you on the phone, and it's sure fun not waiting for a reply on DG! lol
Karen you're cuttings will do fine, I have a similiar set up in my basement... It stays 50 or above and the little heater (built in thermostat) only comes on when temps outside are below about 15 degrees.. You live in zone 8? I think you could keep your big ones in the ground, but have no experience with that in your zone... Linda Kay, I suffer tropical zone envy terribly. But I'm almost sure the estabished big ones would survive for both of you outside. Beckie so sorry bout your bud drop on that CG, he's been one of the more stubborn ones I've grown... cutting to first bloom took 3 years... he's about 5 ft tall now, the blooms lasted 2 or 3 days and the smell was divine. Day Dreams buds are growing and I hope she shows the blooms in the next couple of weeks. Alex hasn't shown any signs of buds and he's border line chopping block, cause I've only seen 3 blooms in his 3 growing seasons with me and those were in the basement last Nov... the place I bought him has discontinued him, I wonder if it's for the same reasons I'm frustrated with him for. Clemen, I love those Copo pics, lucky lil doggie! brseaton (Billi?) are they gnats or white fly?? I have to get some things done here at work, be back soon...
Heres another candle lit for you. Best wishes and prayers coming your way. I will keep this candle lit, till she is in good hands.
God Bless
Linda Kay
Wolfie, that looks like a great spot for you and DW to enjoy them. Last year, I tried wintering over a stump in the ground, with lots of protection here in zone 5, but was unsuccessful... I think if yours survived in pots behind the barn, you surely will have no trouble with them in the ground. What is your zone?
Sounds like everyone has been busy doing the fall hustle. I hope I don't have to do that until at least mid October. It has been in the 70's here and dropping into the 50's at night.
I need to bring my Sarian elephant ears in because they stop growing at those night temps but macrorhiza, tea cups, gigantea, Thailand Giant, Xanthosoma Sags (can be left in ground in zone 7 if mulched - 2 to share for postage), baby malanga and Jack's Giant are still growing. I am leaving several Xanthosoma's in the ground well mulched.
Good thoughts going for Sandy and Amiyah.
Karen, you should try sleeping with a mist going. It really helps me, I don't get the bugs at much or as long. Dryness in the house does bad things to our lungs (asthmatics).
Aunt B - The gnats are black not white so does that make them fungus gnats?
CAT64129 - I would love to try a plumeria cutting. Are they hard to grow? Do you root similar to Brugs?
Oh my I dont think I'll ever catch up. lol Trying so hard to get all my plant's brought in and it's more work than I thought. Maybe if I'd just get in my head I'm NO spring chicken and just do what I can and not be so hard on myself it would make life easier. So used to doing everything myself and when DH offer's help if thing's arent done my way I just tell him to leave. lol A BIG part of that is knowing it's time to get to the OBGYN for that dreaded test. I think the big M has hit. lol A shame to have to pay out all that money for something I already know. lol Anyway's I will catch up tonight. Know for all that need extra prayer's you got it!! Alway's!! Stay safe and Happy bloom's!
No they don't seem hard to grow. If I can root these anyone can! LOL , but these are already rooted. I will add you to the list
Hotties! I am back. Last week we decided to go on a spur of the moment vaca. Wow! Have we been blessed with the weather. Here it is late September and the past week and a half it still is in the 80's with lows in the high 50 to 60's.
Aww Peg, thank you so much for remembering tomorrow. Good news!!!! This morning I got a fax from the guardian ad litem and she is going to recommend to the judge that Amiyah stay in my custody. In her summary she states "It is my opinion that she (Chelsea) has to show considerably more responsibility before she receives custody of her child. It is totally up to her how long this will take."
Now I have to request the judge for permanant rather then temporary custody and at some later date, once Chelsea matures, she can petition the court for custody. But I think that will be many years down the road, I hope.
Here is Amiyah up in the Brainerd Lakes area of Minnesota on her very first pony ride. Hugs to all. I think we were on thread 14 (?) when we left last week?
Well I got through the first 4 threads and now am on #5

I was in MO in the late 1968. That is the furthest West I have ever been. Was in Kansas City. Very dry out there compared to living along the Chesapeake Bay and the people were lovely - it was over 100 degrees for a lot of my stay and it didn't feel nearly as hot as it can get on the East coast.
I was surprised by the accents - I thought they sounded a lot like my relatives in TN.

Hey, Billie, check out Gone2Seed in the DG Marketplace too, under live plants. There is a bunch on sale and the plants I got were at least 2 ft tall.
Sandy, so glad to hear from you. Let us know as soon as that Judge decries so we can really have a Hottie celebration..
Okay, terrijean, now you are officially a "Hottie" It will take a while to get used to those new hormone levels, but heh, it is livable...
Now SLUGS! That dreaded word. I just read on the hosta forum that it is time to spray the ground NOW to kill the slugs coming up to lay their eggs and kill the eggs at the same time. They are recommending an ammonia and water mixture 1:20 (i'll go check this formula again) because now is when they multiple. So, since we don't have anything else to do right now, :)) maybe we should add that to our lists of needs to be done. I would sure like to wipe out part of next years crop of wigglies. And I swear I had never seen one here until I planted the hostas and brugs. Yuck... Let me go check that formula again and be right back. Peg
Okay they're recommending from 1 part ammonia to 10 parts water, up to 4 parts ammonia to 10 parts water, that is why I could not remember exactly. Probably in the middle would be safest. I wonder if the sudsy, lemony ammonia works?? I'd better just get straight ammonia or really have a mess on my hands. Talk about a bubble bath LOL.
Got to get busy today. Talk to ya later, Peg
Merpeg I'm going to hold you to that. lol
Yeah, killing off the slugs would be excellent. They decimate my thinner hostas every year and they made my Dinosaur Food plant look awful. Never touched my brugs though.....
