My little tiny sedum "autumn joy" When I saw the pic you can really see something was munching on it.
Garden Photos Part 38
Looks like hosta, Jen!
That 1st pic was blue angel hosta(newly planted) from Venu209, Thanks-Louise!!!!
::: knock on wood:::: the only hosta they ate on me so far is the one from Pirl... but not badly damaged thank god... so far they have left the ones from Louise alone
Very nice pastels Boojum.
Victor, the back shots of the blue flower is great.
WAY COOL RC.
I couldn't help wondering about the life of the people who lived in the first farm pic.
Was it a working ranch?
How did they find their way home in all that flat space?
Navigated by the stars I guess.
those are all the same questions that go through my mind as well!! I love checking those places out. A few times I've been lucky enough to run into a local that actually knows the story, but that's a rare find.
I had heard navigating by stars is how Nebraska farmers found their way around. Not possible in daylight I guess.
There is a book about the life of women who went wert.
I believe its a collection of stories from diaries kept by women on those trecks.
It's interesting and depicts the really hard life of women on the wagon trains as well as the homesteaders in Nebraska, who went mad because of the bleak landscape.
Do you know the name of the book? It sounds interesting. I look forward to seeing it after some sleep in a few hours!! I definitely believe the part about going mad because of the surroundings, i'm sure that I would.
Nice pictures RC. It reminds me of driving through Saskatchewan which was very flat fields with the occasional rolls of hay.
It reminds me of a simpler time. Sigh.
Another time is right Boojum.
The photos evoke such dispair and lonelyness.
Makes me wonder how long the place was occupied and why they came there to begin with.
Following a dream maybe.
I doubt there was a city planner necessary for the ghost town.
RC really takes great pictures, hope she posts them on the photo forum.
She is probably asleep by now.

booj, one of your green orchids...absolutely beautiful! the others are wonderful, too. I assume you did the tile to order?
v, how big is your dawn redwood getting? where did you get it?
cute, Jen. I did find my resident bunny taking a few bites out of one of my hostas. he hasn't done much damage and I enjoy seeing him around. he startles me almost daily in one of my front beds and then sits outside what has become his home...a low pocket under my front bay window. Explained to him that I could indeed see him. I think I may spray those plants for the winter with a repellent. he'll be looking for food.
RC, nice pics. wouldn't want to live there. can you imagine when the wind comes whipping acrosss those open plains?
a few more roses...'Lion's Fairy Tale'
I have 'Graham Thomas' and he's not blooming here! I think I saw him shiver yeasterday!
Hi, Celeste. what's your temp there this a.m.? we're at 51
It's very sunny and 46! Yippee!!!!!!!!!
More great roses, Jan. The redwood is about 15 feet tall. Got if from Fairweather Gardens. Great shots, Shelly. Lots of character and good lighting.
Beautiful roses, Jan. Love everyone's paintings. I appreciate your talent, considering, I too, am a stick figure person.
Shelly, great shots. I like the long ride into the sunset.
Jan
Now you know why Lydia Pinkham's sold so well in the prairie--it was mostly alcohol! Beautiful photos, but very solitary---would like to live there maybe 3 months of the year! Booj--very nice pastels, & I loved the tile---my watercolor teacher used to do tiles as well--her house has many examples of her work--gave it up after running a B&B in K-port for 15 years. Grandpa--how many roses do you have? Love the Tradescant.
Thanks all. I thought I posted my peony painting but I forgot. Now I'm at work. I had a friend from Wyoming who said the suicide rate was determined by when the wind would blow endlessly. It blew tractor-trailers over.
Jan, could Graham Thomas be a climber? Is it a true yellow or lemon?
Castor.
very pretty everyone
great shot Victor
