Your HD has better plants than mine.
Your gardens in fog are wonderful.
Post the hydrangea in fog on the photos forum. It's steller.

thx ge -

onewish it may just be because it is a new arrival this year - hoping it stays the same color next year. i have a lady-in-red that is color blind and is blue with very disappointing flowers this year - to the point it may have to be moved if it does not preform better next year.

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

I can't wait to see my Pinky Winky next year in bloom! I'm thinking I might need to move it though. I don't think I am giving it enough room where it is. Supposedly you can keep it smaller by trimming...I guess I'll see.

Lovely pics Willie, I just bought a Tulip Tree for out back!!

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Bill, great pictures. I love your rock shade garden. That noid looks like a blue mist shrub to me, but I don't know the variety name.

Bill and Allison, don't you need a sweet soil to get the pink in hydrangeas, or are not all hydrangeas color subject to the soil ph? If so, then add lime or wood ashes to the soil for pink blooms.

Bill, a friend found 2 seedling tulip trees in her yard this year. One is still very tiny. We didn't know what they were till recently.

Pixie if you want more tulip trees... don't buy them... you can dig up saplings up from all over my place... I am constantly pulling them everywhere

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

I wish I would of known that! If the little one doesn't make it through the winter I may bug you for some come spring!!

South Hamilton, MA

Sometimes the saplings are in the wrong place, right in the middle of a flower bed along the driveway. We had planted one in the backyard about the knee high. It is now taller than the house or would be if the top had not come down. They are a brittle tree which can be good so the entire tree doesn't crash. We are at the northern tip of its range here along the NE coast of MA. We both love them & so do the orioles.

celeste who you callin Willie?

i have two tulip tree the baby above and one from the Arbor Society that i moved just this year to where lighning felled a 100 ft hickory a couple years ago. they are suppose to grow fast and take several years to flower. love the leaf shape.

flowerjen - love lone trees in field - i will need to walk up the street to a field where photograher's stop to shot a huge tree in a huge field with a rock wall running through it. - a lot of nice rock in that wall.

Love those pics, JoAnn. That looks like really pretty countryside.

New York State has some of the most beautiful scenery. Finger Lakes region is special.
This is Letchworth State Park (The Grand Canyon of the east)

I always thought about going there... just never made the trip yet

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Stay at home vacations are fun when you can find places like this to go to.
I used to go down there more, its about an hour from me.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I always wanted to go to the niagara of PA on my way home from Ohio... but always too tired

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

You are quite a bit south for a side trip from Ohio to NJ.
We drove the "Blue Highways" yesterday and found some quaint little hamletts.

my sister lives in ohio.... the drive always wipes me out.... get on RT 80 till you hit ohio... has to be the most boring drive I have ever taken

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Wow! Both of those places are spectacular! More places I have to visit someday.

Paul Newman died.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

I saw that yesterday...sad day. He was a great actor and I could get lost in those blue eyes!! Got a glimpse of him a few years back when he came to Maine to film 'Empire Falls'.
