Thank you, Lord, for flushing toilets!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After the tornados passed through on Saturday afternoon, Ike made his way through around 2 or 3am Sunday morning. We expected to lose power for a day or so but it turned out to be 4 days. Lots and lots of big trees down but thank goodness no damage to homes on our road. We stockpiled ice and water but it is a pain in the 'you know what' to not be able to flush toilets without filling up the water tank first. The weather has been beautiful so I've been outside trying to work. It's amazing what can get done when not sitting in front of a computer for hours at a time! lol! Also spent some time reading craft books while sitting at the dining room window watching hummingbirds and butterflies. It's not so bad when forced to slow down a little while.

No way to cover all subjects, but am sorry to hear about the loss of the baby chicks,
peacocks and turkeys. A friend with chickens has a Great Pyrenees (sp?) and says they are great dogs for guarding lifestock. Marion, glad you are feeling better. Love the festival theme - assuming it's a take off on the book 'The Secret Life of Bees'? Great book and the movie is coming out soon. Linda Kay, that's one mean looking surgery incision. Hope you are staying off of it. They had me on Vicadin after the surgery on my wrist/arm and I won't take it anymore. Had the worst withdrawals when the Rx ended. It was scary. Hope you don't experience anything like that.

Thanks for the dmail with my swap sistah info Jaye. I'll have to get some background info from you about her. Did you ask for a photo of my living room? (several times?) lol! Sorry, haven't been able to get on the computer since Saturday night. The only ones I could find are from Christmas - with my DBIL alseep in a chair. (he is not a permanent fixture) lol! Couldn't find a photo of the whole room so I'll show two photos. Our colors are very muted, 'old world' shades of brown, gold and sage green with accents of rust.

Oh Debra I love it-do you have more pics of your house-it is exactly what DH and I wnat for our drem house so far and I have only sen the before pics and this one and one of part of your kitchen!! Please more pics for me to drool over!!

Ferndale, AR(Zone 7b)

Stacey, we are empty nesters and built this house exactly the way we use it. No extra rooms, no unused space. One dining room - no extra breakfast room. One master and one guest bedroom - no extra bedrooms (with we did have one more for crafting and hiding stuff). One big living area - no seperate den, etc. No room is for 'show', we LIVE in our house. It makes me feel good when friends/guests compliment on how comfortable they feel here. They say it's nicely decorated (we spurlged on a professional decorator for the living room) but they don't feel afraid to sit on the furniture. lol! That's good - otherwise they would be sitting on the floor.

What do you want to see?

ROTFL it's all in the hormones. we tried to tell Randall before we got married that I was a WITCH when pregnant. He didn't believe me, then around six months - 4.5 of it on bedrest, he complained that I had exponentially understated my case.

Sitting here waiting for son's vehicle buyer to show up.

Tinky, the FIRST command I teach my dogs is "MOVE." Hope learned quick that MOVE meant take herself somewhere other than where she was and FAST or she'd get stepped on, nudged, tromped, etc. .......it always works when I want in my bathroom!

somewhere along life's way, I stopped being afraid of any dog. i am alpha female. hear me snarl

well, I am short, under 5'4" and getting shorter, and as plumb as can be. round face, dark chocolate curly hair in my youth decided to go to white first, and only around my face- the rest is still mostly chocolate. my eyesight is lousy, my hearing is bad in right ear, and I have chronic sinus problems so bad that docs have xrayed them twice, bad allergies, mostly to grass (so no ornament grasses here) and dust mites, stress induced asthma since birth, high BP now after a lifetime of low BP, and the massive mega doses of antibiotics in 2004 from sepsis probably fried my thyroid.

I went searching for a photo of me, instead found a Halloween shot of the front yard sloping to the street. 2005 iris planting foreground right, 2006 additions foreground left, 2007 (went crazy) additions in the background. But look close at the lowest left corner, and you'll see red flags, and in the upper right corner are the rest. some of the rocks sit atop the line, too.

How do you tell a child of yours to be ok without a man. I thought I had but heck. I know how. The fight is on here and I truly hate drama.

Ferndale, AR(Zone 7b)

Bon, don't know what you are all laughing about but you sure look like you're having a good time! You must be smiling about a new shipment of iris that just arrived!

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Debra, so happy to see you back on line. You have really been through a lots with Ike. If I was closer I surely would pitch in and help with the work. Give you an entirely new appreciation for the conviences doesn't it?

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

So glad to see your laughing face, Bon! Someone turned all y'alls tickle boxes over.

dominos - we love to get together and play dominos! or cards.

Tia, Dec. 2, 1990, my beau took me to hear The Judds. Wynona said her mom had taught her men are good for three things. On stage Naomi (farewell tour) chirped up, "yes, sir. They're good for lawn maintenance, car maintenance..." then Wynona finished it, grinned and smirked, "and lifting heavy objects."

tell your daughter all three can be hired cheaper than keeping a man happy. if all she needs is sex, well, all she needs to do is say so and every other man will drop his pants right there. every woman in my line, at one time, ended up letting a man move in with her, and every one of us regretted it. Every one of us went broke doing it. A truly good man is too much a man to move in on a single woman, it would be beneath his dignity. Learned, X 3 generations, and always true.

.......until you find a good man, and those are not easy to find. and a truly good man is hard to lose....

but if she's just looking for a meal ticket, or a ticket out, she'll regret that even more.

bestest thing that ever happened to me was my daddy handed me a pen and a legal tablet, pointed across a parking lot at a picnic table under a shady tree, told me to take a week if I needed to, but to go sit down and don't stop thinking until I had decided what I really wanted to do with the rest of my life, where I wanted to live, how I wanted to live. That was 48 hours after I filed for divorce, packed the kids in the car and scooted straight down to Sacramento to uncles's house. I was so numb. But I did it. Smart move to know where you want to go next.

Raleigh, NC

can you see the dominos now? Randall was at the end of table standing up taking the photo. If you look, you can see white "bones" on the table. probably Mexican train or Chicken Foot dominos. That good looking surly sort at the table is Don, my FIL. he was a rough in carpenter in his youth, so every time he visits, I get all sorts of things fixed and built. this is beginning of game, everyone has their game face on.

my X key is not working right....

nope, I'm wrong, that's not the bones on the table, it's the wheel for mexican train or chicken foot. I'm about to dump the dominos box upside down to begin the game.

Hope's in the photo, too, but Don brought homemade beef jerky from S.D., and it's on the cupboard just out of the shot. She "pointed it" all evening.

My, my look at Phyllis. Mrs. Texas to me!!

Debra, welcome back. So glad you're at least able to flush the toilets!! When unexpectedly power's gone, and you didn't have water set aside in case of emergencies.. you'll be wondering how long can you hold yourself.. or if you live in the country.. find yourself a concrete block and haul yourself to the woods!

Bon, somehow I see you as having long black hair, pulled back into a ponytail and quite on the skinny side.
Must be because you're always busy all the time.

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Conversation with Don just now:

Me: Now that we finished clearing away that pile of brush... I'm going to build a bird feeder. Will you take the scooter to the store and get some buns for burgers for dinner? And on the way, stop at the hardware store and get me this list of supplies?

Don: Sure, honey... (takes the list and tucks it in his pocket, drags the scooter out of the shop, and barely misses the boat trailer in the way). Be back in a minute.

In the mean time, I'm laying out the boards I'm going to use from all the scraps he has laying around.

Don returns home, and hands me the list. "they didn't have all that stuff, the buns are on the counter in the kitchen... I'm going to take a nap."

10 minutes pass... I walk in the house: Honey, are you awake? I can't get the miter saw to move and I need to set it for a 45 degree angle.

Don: NO, I'm not awake.

Me: What the trick to move the saw?

Don: Just buy a &$#* feeder, honey... it's gonna end up cheaper.

Me: OK !!!

LOL... my tactics didn't work this time... thought I could get him to do it for me... guess I was wrong.

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

ROFLOL!! Classic BJ.

Well I just had a strange call from my son wanting to know if I would like to have dinner with my granddaughters. You know my answer then came: can their parents tag along too? He maybe grown but he is still a child sometimes. So I am going to get cleaned up and go meet my "angels" or "devils" depends on how their day went at school.

Later.

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

awwwwwwwwwwwww how sweet.

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

Hi All,
Back from doctor. I don't know why they can't tell you in plain english what is wrong. Anyhow it's somthing to do with the muscles in my shoulder, so he gave me a cortisone shot. I dang near passed out. Felt good within a few seconds. Have to some exercise every hour. Well, I hope they work because my shoulder is hurting big time and I can't move it.
Tia, went to WM found the most beautiful fabric for your Reindeer, I'm only going to tell you the colors gold and green. I just might have to make me a set with that fabric. When I walked down the isle it jumped out at me lol.
Bon, we play those domino games too. I just learned Chicken Foot when I met Rick. When my mom and I visit my brother (he's in prison) we play Mexican Train. It's fuuny to watch other people in there looking at our table and trying to figure out what we are playing. I have been wanting to go to Stugis for years. back in 80 -81 my brother went to Sturgis. Johnny Paycheck was playing (Take This Job and Shove It) and one of the guys in his band was playing my mom's saxphone that she had in High school. I can't remember how my brother met them before Sturgis. My brother thought it was really something that that guy wanted to play my mom's saxaphone. They partied for days. I'm been around Harley's all my life, my mom and uncle, my brother built 5 or 6 panheads. I was in the process of building myself a trike, had all the parts but a motor, then I got pregnant, didn't ride for 4 years, now we've got this beatuiful 2005 Softtail and my aching body can't handle long rides anymore. But we don't give up we still take short rides every now and then.
Man! My school bus drivers were always old men, my grandpa included lol.

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

UPS just dropped off a box thought it might be my birdfeeder. Nope 130 daffodil bulbs. Well I'm going to busy this weekend only 75 tomarrow and 82 saturday will be gone all day Sunday visiting my brother. I keep forgetting I ordered these bulbs, got 12 Iris' last week. I think that's all I've ordered.

Ferndale, AR(Zone 7b)

Ouch, Cindy! That must have hurt. Had one (actually several) of those shots in my wrist before it was correctly diagnosed. Like you, I nearly passed out. He stuck the needle in and moved it around. Ohhhhh ...... getting light headed just thinking about it. Hope your shoulder feels better soon.

BJ, that's a funny conversation with Don. Better luck next time. lol!

Marion, that is sooooooo sweet. You've got the bestest family.

Jaye, we did have jugs and pots of water ready for an outage. It's just inconvenient to take off the lid, pour 2 or 3 jugs of water in, etc. ....... Then no hot water to wash hands, wash face, etc. whine, whine, whine ..... ok, I'm over it. lol!

Can someone answer a quilting question for me? (I'm determined to make a rag quilt) Will quilt squares cut with pinking shears 'rag' when washed? I'm seeing those 40 square packs on ebay for very little $$$ - super cute fabric and well worth not having to cut it myself but they appear to be pinked. I think the brand is 'Moda'???? If no one here knows the answer I'll post the question on the quilting forum.

Raleigh, NC

oh Lordy - someone pass me the dumb hat.

Been feeling bad ever since I started my new thyroid meds. just got back from the Kroger for milk, and stopped to ask the pharmicist about my thyroid pills - I ran out too soon and couldn't remember if he had given me my whole month's worth or not. He blanched a bit, asked me how many I was taking, I said, "like always, one a day." Oh me. I did it to myself. He discussed with me when I got them that I had to cut them in half and only take 1/2 a day. It's even on the vials. DUMB dumb DUMB. told him thyroid med had given me a month long migraine once and he confirmed it they would do that. Oh Bless Me.

Haven't quilted in years, but seems like a pinked edge would be more difficult to work with, harder to keep straight measurement wise. As for ragging, I think most cotton fabrics would. you know, I'm not sure what a rag quilt is, anyone have a picture?

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Debra, pinking the edges is to stop the fabric from fraying too much during washing.
Moda is a good 100% cotton brand fabric, optimal for quilting.

Good Lord Bon!! What are the side effects of doubling your dosage? So, are you able to get your prescription refill, or you have to check with the doctor?
I am always careful in making sure I follow what ever's written on the bottle. Moreover nurse Kelvin is very vigilant.

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Debra, as Jaye said Moda is a very good fabric line. Check Hancock's for the "charm" packs, they have the Moda and are resonablely priced and no pinked edges. Also the Fat Quarter Quilt Shop has them. I have ordered from both and have been really satisfied not only with the fabric but the service.

Things haven't always been this way with my kids--just way to much going on in both their lives about the time their dad died. Taken a while but it is all worth it now. Of course, I got tons of loving tonight!! That's the best part.

Not good Bon!! Hope you start to feel better really soon.

Cindy, I would say you have more than enough work planned out for yourself. Wahoo, I have help coming Saturday. I am so excited to at last find someone to help get it back into shape and looking like a yard again rather than a trash heap.

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

well they won the game 40 - 0 then we went to Whataburger to eat afterward.
I took some of my quilt square pieces along and worked on them and watched the game from the bus.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Thanks Marion!
So glad you had a blast with your angels! And I know they feel likewise too... getting all that loving from their special grandma.
We've just returned from a nice Mexican meal with our special guest, Lingernot.
Since almost all my sistahs have shown themselves, so it's only fair to introduce myself, with Lingernot wishing for some of that carnitas!
