I am here.
It seems that we have a couple resident experts on fowl raising here!
Do you sell your chicks, Tia?
So Marion, how about it? What will the theme be this year for the festival??
Yes I will sell them. And I am not an expert, I am still learning.
She said it's "The Secret Tree of Life"
Yes we do have a theme: "The Secret Life of Trees" how is that for an off the wall theme. Not really when the nurseryman explained what they have in mind. Should be fun.
Hope you are still planning to come work with me!!!!!
Hmmmm....interesting....
Thanks, Jaye.
Well, I'm going to have to find some "funds" if that's going to happen!
I love the eggs from free range chickens. Their yolks are so rich, and golden..
Joyce, what cultivar brugs did you lose? And the perennials??
Just need them to get here--everything else will be taken care of!!
Soweeeeeeeeeeeee Marion.. my brains are dyslexic!! Got that info backwards!! Lolol!!
I'm gonna work on it, Marion!
Jaye...I'm not sure if they're a total loss. They are bent over and look like half the stem is gone. I've never done brugs before, and I only know the name of one which is Isabelle and she is still okay. The others are a pink one, not sure what name and the other two are white, also not sure of the name as they came from a generous DGer who said NOIDS.
You have beautiful brugs. You must have green fingers as well as thumbs!
LOL I hadn't even notice if tho I read it. Guess I must be the same!!!! Yeap, we are alike.
Oh, I'm sure that most all of the perennials will come back next year. The dianthis are the ones that took off flying. Also had some hens and chicks end up in some interesting places and a couple of ferns popped out.
The annuals were hit the hardest. Zinnias and coleus. :o(
My first ever dahlia had so many new buds on it, (only one bloom so far this year) and it was laying on it's side. I propped it up and watered it well, but it's not looking very healthy right now.
hope your brugs are ok, I have heard so much about them here and sure need to get me some. They look very delicate.
Well, really ladies...the Secret Life of Trees, makes a little more sense than the other way around.... ^_^
Joyce, Jaye will tell you too, put any broken brug stems in water and they'll root for you. or you can root them in potting soil too. I like the water rooting so I can see what's going on it just takes those roots some adjustment when you do finally pot them up..
I have 3 pots of hens and checks, Zinnias and coleus I can send seeds for the Zinnias and I have some coleus I can get started for you. I was told you can house plant them during the winter.
Tina, that would be cool. I am moving my inside plant table and plant light to the new house. I haven't used it in years, but I have a lot of new things I want to "try" to save this year!
Deb, I will try that if this pink one doesn't look like it will recover. It had just "y"d, too! :o(
Hello everyone, Back in here for a few minutes. I got 3 more quilt blocks done, about 4 more, and I can get them mailed out!!!
BJ, hope your doing better, Is Don home yet? He can take his scooter and get ya some chicken soup! Or better yet, you need to borrow Cindy's hot tub, and soak for a while???
Ladies take care, Glad to see the new little chickie, make sure he stays warm...
Linda Kay
you got it, I have the seeds already for the Zinnia's let me get some coleus potted up and get them rooted. Then the hens and chicks are ready.
I'm determined to save my Caladiums this year. I'm tired of buying them every year when all I need to do is save the corms/bulbs and let them go dormant. Any advice on how to exactly go about this techinque?
yea since I have them also.
Wow I didn't know you could root brugs in water. I received 8 cuttings from a DGer and only one survived. A couple of them got about 2" tall then died. Had them in my master bathroom with bright light and moisture. I only have two all together one is about 6' tall and has not bloomed or even have buds, I think it went into shock when I took cuttings from it. I had it for 3 years before it bloomed for the first time.
Just change the water often. Adding a little H2O2 can help.
Yea let's have a "Hot Tub Party" ya all can come to California LOL. That was the best "Trash to Treasure" I ever received. I'm going to try some of the scented stuff (forgot what it's called) that you put in the water ,need to get new filter doing that this weekend.
Deborah's right Joyce. I root my cuttings in water. Yep a little peroxide helps.
And once they root, transfer them to small pots with some perlite.
They're very forgiving plants. Except when they're eaten by enemy #1 and that is broadmites.
Audrey, I got my first brug from JanLynn, back in June, and I have since then aquired about 12 more, and they are so easy to take care of and start rooting. I have rooted all of mine in potting soil, in the morning sun only. They don't like to be too hot. They don't like to be too wet. keep them very moist, but make sure your pots have suffients holes for draining. I fertilize mine once a week with liquid miracle grow fertilizer, and they are all happy campers. I have all of mine in pots with miracle grow soil, because our soils is so bad here. I moved mine a round the yard for a few days till I found thier happy spot. They are all on the east sideof the house, and they get the morning sun, till about 2 or 3 pm, then the car port shade them. They are fast growers, and I am still waiting for them to bloom...
Linda Kay
Oh Oh Oh, just made a new bed on the east side of the house. I need to find me some of these babies.
You're not too far that I can't send you some cuttings Tina, Tia...
but I'll send you a rooted one in a minute ;)
Of course not in a minute... was talking to Kel at the same time!! LOLOL

Sweeeeettttttttttttttttttt I was looking out there today, we just did it yesterday and was thinking I need to find something that is afternoon shade. It is 16 foot wide and about about 2 foot deep.
Does anyone like Mozart? I received a CD in the mail, I don't care for that kind of music. So if anyone would like it I will gladly send it on. Here are a couple of the songs:
The Marriage of Figaro
Clarinet Concerto in B flat major
Thanks for the offer Cindy.. I got that one! Good for the development of kids' brains they say, if they listen to Mozart.
I have a few that THRIVE in full sun, which thrill me, cause I have very few area that's shaded. The doubles and triples are more sensitive to prolong sun exposure.
As usual, I always recommend www.brugmansia.us and www.abads.net for those serious in brugs or dats. There are a few reliable sellers too here and Kenboy is pretty knowledgeable when it comes to 'recipes'.
Hi all, thought I'd pop in for a minute. Not in a very good mood right now, plumber just left. I went down stairs to get canning jars and the basement was flooded again. I thought crap how could this be it's not raining and hasn't rained since Sat. so I walked into one of the back rooms and it was coming down from the ceiling. Major problem. found the culprit under the guest bathroom sink the shut off valve to the sink split wide open. Here's the kicker it must have had a leak for the past couple of days and the floor and the basement ceiling have been soaking it up. So now the wood is starting to buckle at the walls, we are talking major, major bucks to fix this. the floors have to be replaced, I can do without ceilings down stairs, it's not finished anyway. But geez! the hallway, bath and my bedroom all have damage. I called the insurance company and they don't think that is covered, just replacement of damage goods but they will get back to me about it. Can the day get much worse. Oh and the plumber went and checked all my sinks and plumbing to be on the safe side. Had no idea that the water pressure coming into the house was so strong about 90 pounds of pressure and all the pipes in the house can only handle about 50 pounds. It needs a regulator (about $70. hmmmm not this week) Total bill for him fixing that pipe, sink pipes under kitchen sink, they were starting to rot, he touched them and one side fell down. Put new plungers in the toilets. Damage and all else took almost 4 hours to fix, $245.00 later I'm sitting here wanting to scream.
I need funny stories or something to cheer me up.
I'll scream for ya Robin!
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Sorry to have all these happen to you! I do pray that the insurance company will do MORE than their best to help you. Something to cheer you up.. ok.. how about a list of things that you don't have to fix?
Perhaps the insurance guys could say the damages are Ike related?
I know, you pointed out the shut off valve as the major cause.
