BJ, I'm glad your ds took an interest! This may be a turning point for him!
♥Sweet Interruption♥ 25
Linda Kay, please be extremely careful using crutches this early. Jabba the Hut toe sounds like that booth may be squeezing too tightly, Sit girl friend, sit while you can and milk it for all it's worth.
well gee looks like I missed alot of chattin tonight ...went to diner wtih daughter finance and his folks so we finally got the meet the folks *S*
Was nice and a good time.
Gee Robin I used to cook at a bat and grill and was the "sous" chef ( a cook but second in command) at a golf course before moving down here seems we have a lil bit in common there. I loved to get the bar to let me make different things for the weekly specials but nothing as nice as yours but the guys that were regulars loved it when I made something new just had to make extra so the boss/owner could get his share and still have enough for customers.
and the golf course enjoyed new things too for the ladies golf nights...I got to plan fancier things for them.
Have y'all ever thought about things that you can put in a jar and send the recipe for the wet ingredients for a swap???
Sorry, I haven’t been on here since the 12th. I knew I hadn’t gotten on yesterday, but I found out today that I’m a couple days behind on some of my first tier threads; this being one of them; so, sorry my replies go so far back, and that I’m writing a novel. It ended up being almost two pages in word, but I am caught up to 8 pm here posts, and I actually read it. It’s 11:35 pm now and I started around 8 pm.
I wanted to reply to Jaye’s post
That would have thrown me into fierce reality there, BJ! Life or protecting something that's gonna outlive us! No way, I wanna be called out as body ss# _ _ _
But some people have their priorities backwards.
If it was just property, except for what I could fit on my back, much less in a car, I’d leave it in a second, and many of the things I’d bring wouldn’t be the most costly in the house. For instance, if I was told I could save one item, and only one item, from my house I’d take my teddy bear I’ve had forever. Next would be my external hard drive. Those are the only two things I can think of right now that are irreplaceable.
The teddy bear, because it’s not just a teddy bear, it’s my lifetime friend. She’s the only stuffed animal I couldn’t pack away when I was going through my “I’m too old for this” phase, I got over that fairly quickly; I love kid stuff too much and decided I could be an “adult” and still do “kids” stuff. She still sits on the head board to my bed.
I’d grab the external hard drive because it has my photography on it. I really need to get a back-up of my photos made and put in someone else’s house. Might not help with a hurricane or earthquake, but would save the information if the house burnt down. Thank you for making me think about that.
But even those things I’d cry over, likely for a long time, but I wouldn’t risk my life for.
Now if you told me I had to leave my cats, unless it was “you are going to die if you stay here” I don’t think I could leave, at least before I had a daughter to think about. I understood the people that stayed in New Orleans because the evacuation shelters would let them bring their pets. I was glad to see that they did try to deal with that this time.
Cindy, I’m already going grey and I’m not yet 30.
Linda, glad you’re ok.
Marion, I want your pint glasses! Those are the same type I use, but all of mine are beer companies’ logos or plain.
The lady bug mouse might actually convince me to use a mouse, generally I hate them. I like to be able to drop my track ball in my lap, or where ever I want, and surf. The only problem I have is it’s hard to use left handed, it’s one of the thumb ball ones.
I was the same way with yeast breads, but I’ve overcome it with making the dough in a bread machine and then baking it like a real loaf of bread.
Jaye, I didn’t post once in the last room, were you just letting me know that I was tow rooms behind when I got there?
Open faced cheese sandwiches with a slice of tomato and sunflower seeds, I love those sandwiches.
I had a friend that would do just about anything for “real” (the way mom and I make it) cornbread and my other friends cranberry bread, and the few times we had him over for “southern” cooking I thought he would die of joy.
BJ, I’m glad to hear your son is regaining interest in life! That’s a great sign; I hope it continues to grow.
Joyce, I’m so sorry to hear about your garden, I don’t have much to send, but dmail me if you’re interested in hearing what I have. I don’t think I have any perennials at the moment.
Robyn, those sound like weird cats, or were they just batting at it? Mine sit on the edge of the tub and play with the water. Nero fell in once, I still have a scar on my leg where he landed and took off; to add insult to injury, his not mine, he went and jumped in the cat box, so I had to dunk him again before drying him off. This is the same cat that managed to get locked in the dryer for about 8 hours and still tries to get in the drier. Had an 8 pack of green beans fall inches from his head and didn’t budge, but did sniff them. He’s a very friendly cat, and he isn’t stupid, but I have to wonder about him sometimes.
I was just telling mom that if her tomatoes don’t turn red by the time the frost comes she could make fried green tomatoes.
I like the food/recipe swap idea. Though I guess Cindy says that one is going to happen. Hope to see you there.
Stacey, Sage is watching the old Batmans. That is my least favorite, but I do like it and the new ones, and the comics, and the animated… but they are all different. I do love the curses in the Adam West Batman TV show; my favorite is “Holy Nightmares Batman”
Phyllis, if anyone needs ideas for recipes in a jar point them my way, I found dozens when I was helping someone with the jar swap.
I am with you Laura-the first 2 things I would save would be the cat and dog-then my negatives from my photos and 1 safe box-DH and I already have a plan if the house starts on fire or something-he grabs the animals and I grab the negatives and the safe box-that has like our mortgage papers, birth certs and my poetry in it-everything else can be replaced...
DH loves Batman-when we were dating he would put a shirt on his head and do different things with it like Batman and the flying nun-always had me peeing my pants laughing so hard!!
Laura-maybe your buddy for the 2009 swap or something will ask me to get you some-can't be found everywhere;) They had butters, dragonflies, frogs, and some other bugs-all tooo cute!!
Robin-w/ DH being a KM, he does the cooking-our dream is to won our own restaurant-he has some wonderfully creative ideas!! We don't even have normal mac & cheese-it has green peppers, tomatoes, green onions and some other stuff in it:) I need to get back in the habit of grocery shopping every 2 weeks and planning meals-now I just go when we are out of something-my frige looks like the barren north!!LOL
Morning Girls :-)
I too have an external hard drive that I put all my important things on but I also burn it all to a CD every once in awhile as a back up just in case it would decide to go out on me...maybe that is something to keep in mind and then if you have a fire proof safe or a safety deposit box at a bank you could stash a copy in there for safe keeping.
off to work I go for now pop in later *waves*
morning all . / / / and now I'm crawling back in bed. couldn't sleep almost all night and migraine is worse.
Morning everyone.
It's a bizarre morning today. Head feels bizarre.. sinus is at its' "bizarrest" (no such superlative) and we are supposed to be at the doctors' today.
Getting his check up-- bloodworks and the "glove". Doc had increased my bp meds, and I have a feeling I'll fail my test.
Stacey, sounds like your DH is making western omelette but with macaroni.. now who would have thought of that?
Y'all have a normal day today.
Congratulations, MamaChickyJo! He looks to big to have fit inside an egg! No wonder he busted out.
i was surprised when i saw her. i'm too eggited
Really, please tell me, what have you been feeding that fat chick while he was in that egg!???LOL
she is very strong for being a newborn. she pooped already.
hey stacey, i have fairy farts for you
Morning sistahs.
CONGRATS Chicky Momma... NOW that is SOME monster chickie.. !!! Patience paid off, huh?
I didn't go back and read everything since yesterday, sorry... maybe after enough coffee, I will...
Oh Kathy,
The chickie is so cute, but how do you know it's a she?
Morning all, I won't be around much till later on, I'm in the middle of getting veges ready to can. Between today and tomorrow I'm making Chow Chow, Tomato sauce, Hot Pepper Jelly and Zuke bread. I wanted to put my recipe on here for ya'll.
Chocolate, Chocolate Chip Zucchini Bread
pre-heat oven to 350
1 c. oil
3 c. sugar
4 eggs
3 c. Zucchini (grated)
3 c. Flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
1/2 c. cocoa
1 tsp vanilla
1 - 12 oz bag chocolate chip
1 c. nuts (opt.)
Blend oil and sugar. Add eggs and beat well. Sift dry ingredients (except cocoa) together then add to egg mixture, Add zucchini, then add cocoa, vanilla and chips. Pour into 2 well greased and floured loaf pans or 4 - 6 small pans.
2 lg. pans bake 1 hour or till knife inserted in middle comes out clean.
Sm. pans you need to keep an eye on they don't take quite as long to bake if I remember right. After about 1/2 hour start checking them with a knife.
Flouring pans will keep them from sticking, you can use flour or cocoa to do this.
Kathy, how cute!! Wish I was close enough to hold her. Yes, how do you know it is a she? Biddies are so cute and fluffy--makes me want one but they do grow up to chickens who poop a lots in the yard!!!
Thanks for posting the recipe Robyn!! Don't overdo it with the canning!!
Morning all.
Deborah,
I looked up the Dragon Tree. That is my DBF's plant. It is a 'Colorama', Dracaena marginata. I also have a Dragon Tree 'Tricolor'. I put bark in my houseplants to help keep them moist. Before I water I stick my finger as far down in the soil to see how damp. I water that about every two weeks.
Cindy
bj, that is jezebells and wally's little one
Thanks, Cindy. I need to start checking the soil before I water too.
Morning Deborah and Cindy. Whatcha up to today? I am undertaking the cleaning of the 2 decks--or I hope there are decks under all the debris. Gonna find out!!!
Grumpy morning for me. I'm paying bills and trying to come up with a get out of debt plan. Maybe with my son moving back home I'm starting to see light at the end of the tunnel.
Oh no!! Think positive --you will get there. Know the feeling well though!!
I want to hold the little chickie! They are so sweet (when they are little)!
Deborah I found the perfect plan, it's a winning lottery ticket. Unfortunately, my tickets aren't co-operating!
Hiya Marion, how are you feeling today? Up to solids yet?
Congrats Sis! Can't wait till you have more hatching.
Deborah, it's a slow painful process, but once you devise a plan, stick with it. No matter how impossible it looks!! Been there, and I'm proud to say, I only have one credit card in my purse, just for emergencies.. in case we are far, far from home.
Easiest part is to make a list and cut off all the luxuries. Hard part is actually doing it!!
Wonder what the super rich do when they're forced to be on a budget. Guess no more caviars for them!!
Laura, you've posted on another thread how different Sage is when she's outside the home. Don't want to hog that thread, but I'll share this with you here.
I was somewhat like Sage but in reverse. Had the fear of abandonment. Physically abused by Dad. Had a mother that's passive in everything. I can't misbehave much at home, not even laugh. If not for grandparents, I would never get any expressions of love in the form of hugs, or even gentle pats on the head.
So, in school, I misbehaved, vying for the attention I had been missing at home. Hanging out with the wrong crowd, refusing to apply myself in schoolwork.
If I'm allowed to express myself and be a child at home, I won't be a much 'feared' child in school. Somehow I always managed to scrape by and surprisingly be in top classes each year, but you should see the teachers' eyes when they read my name out loud, first day of the school year. Their greetings will always start with "I hope you'll behave...." Now, looking back, if I had all the attention you're giving Sage.... who knows I might be a rocket scientist now... !!!!
Robin, thanks for the recipe.
Morning everyone. BonJon, sorry to hear of your migrane. Hope it is better soon. Marion, I do hope your feeling better today?
I will be lurking today, in betweeen pain pills and naps.
Ladies take care.
Linda Kay
You are right Jaye, I think that is a lot of her acting out is wanting the attention. When she stays at our house a lot of times she just wants to climb up in the chair with me or especially my DH (he is her favorite toy)......she just wants us to hold her and hug her!
Doing better today for sure. Managed an egg on toast and boy was it good after almost nothing.
Jaye, I love you like you are--rocket scientist--to brainy for me then!! LOL I do agree about debt. I keep trying to tell my DD that but she knows better. Thank goodness DS and DIL learned early before kids that it could cause trouble. If I can't pay for it--I don't need it!!! Long time learning that lesson for sure.
Well back to the laundry--rrrugh!
Sage is so lucky to have you and your DH, Trisha. All the hugs she can get are worth more than all the expensive toys money can buy.
LK, take your SWEET time to heal! Enjoy the attention you're getting.
Glad you are feeling better Marion. I agree with you, we got rid of all the credit cards, only have a few medical bills left to pay off now and if I don't have the cash then we do without.
I have some extra laundry if ya need some more...LOL. Also have a friend we haven't seen in several years showing up on Thursday so I have a lot more than laundry to get done!!
Here ya go girls something new to try if you haven't already done this before
Ziploc Omelets:
This works great! Good for when you're alone or when all your family is together. The best feature is that no one has to wait for their special omelet. Have the guests write their name on a Quart Size Ziploc Freezer Bag with a permanent marker.
1. Crack 2 eggs into the quart size Ziploc bag (not more than 2) shake to combine them.
2. Put out a variety of ingredients such as: Cheeses, Ham, Onions, Green Peppers, Tomatoes, Hash Browns, Salsa, Etc.
3. Each guest adds prepared ingredients of choice to their bag and shake the bag to mix them well.
4. Make sure to get the air out of the bag and zip it up.
5. Place the bags into rolling, boiling water for exactly 13 minutes. You can usually cook 6-8 omelets in a large pot. If you have more omelets, make another pot of boiling water.
6. Cut the bags and the omelet will roll out easily. Be prepared for everyone to be amazed.
7. Nice to serve with fresh fruit and coffee cake; everyone gets involved in the process and it becomes a great conversation piece.
Imagine having these ready the night before, and putting the bag in boiling water while you get ready. And in just 13 minutes you have a nice omelet for a quick breakfast
trisha, the chick is spoiled already. everytime i put her down she fusses real loud!
I already decided on supper and have made chicken noodle soup ..well the noodles aren't in yet but everything else is so when I get home I can just add the noodles and reheat it and dinner is served LOL
Love the lil chick soo cute !!!! congrats Jo
I'd offer to send my laundry over but Dh did it up the other day and I did the last few things before Ike came by so none left here to deal with for now.
Debt....oh gee not even gonna touch on that one is a bad 4 letter word LOL
Isn't that what chickies and grandkids are for??!!
Phyllis, the omlet idea sounds fantastic. I can't wait to try it for sure. The first cool evening is always an egg dinner with us. Have no idea why we like that when it turns cold but then we are a little strange I guess.
No thanks everyone, as much as I love everyone, I have more than enough laundry for the time being.
Kathy love the baby for me, please. I think they are so cute at this point!!!
marion, she won't let me put her down
they are to die for. the bag omlets.
Kathy you have it bad. She is lonely.
Well I just suggest you sit down and hold her. Isn't that what Mommie and Granmas do? Find a comfy chair and just love the baby!!!
