Love the pics all.
Nutsfordaylilly... I love those gallardia and daylillies. Thanks for the thoughts up above. Yep, I figure the weeds must be a glitch, since I know that since I spend all me free time pulling them. i just know that they can't have grown back already!
Dyane... the santa clause dahlia is cute
delphinium from this evening
Garden Photos - Part 37
The river looks like liquid gold RC.Nice shot.
Great pics, everyone. Glad I'm not on dial-up anymore - wouldn't be able to access this thread.
The nymph is from UniQue Treasures, Janet and I did a trade early this summer. She's moved around the garden all summer, but when I saw she'd managed a rose bud in her hair, I decided she had found where she wanted to be.
Wow - these bunch of pics are so amazing! I like the pics of the autumn crocus. I planted some several years ago. I get green, but never any flower..hurrumph! My yard is getting tired...I'm heading out though - might find a few gems..
Here's some goldenrod with sedum from this morning
...and...
I need to share that I had my very first hummingbird in my yard...that's right!!! In my yard!!! I new there was a bird behind me, as I heard it. I looked to see what kind it was as I wasn't familiar with it's chirp. There it was checking out my rose of sharon. I've lived here over 20 years and have never seen a hummer in my yard. I can now die a happy woman! They are fast! I had my camera in hand, but he was gone before I could even point, let alone shoot! What a shot it would have been.....
Congrats, Anita! Beautiful shots, Shelly. Gorgeous surroundings you have.
Shelly, WOW!!! beautiful pics. Definitely liquid gold on the river. Was the smoke just normal smoke? Not a forest fire somewhere, I hope.
Looks like you've had pretty hot weather out there recently.
Anita, I find it odd, but a friend who lives on LI also had never seen a hummer until she saw them in my garden. I'm sending her a photo for Christmas, well, actually two photos. It would seem that LI would have hummers with all of the gardens.
Thanks. If only it were gold... hmmm......
Glad to hear that you're out and about JoAnne. That's excellent!
Jan.... Yes, unfortunately it is due to Forest Fires. In fact, I am set to go to my sisters in Eastern Oregon tomorrow and there was one a few days ago that broke out, cutting off the freeway route that I travel. And then another one started just yesterday, not all that far away here, that has closed the other route that I can go through Shaniko. Hmmpf. i think that the freeway will be open again today. Hopefully anyhow! I have it good though since I don't live in the little town that had to be evacuated for the last one.
Take it slow, JoAnn, but enjoy!!
Shelly, have a great visit with your sister.
Thanks for the advice. I think what I'll do is thin and transplant some now and do it again in the fall. I just love DG where you can find all these helpful gardeners!
Baby's great, Victor. She's a great sleeper...during the daytime!!! Need to get her sleep schedule flipped to the evening but all is good, this stage doesn't last long.
Thanks RedChic, I love your Delph shots. I love the Dahlias but I think next year I need to find some shorter varieties. These were 5 feet tall. Difficult to manage with staking and weather damage but they are so pretty it makes me want to keep trying.
Went to the Dahlia Show out here on Long Island last weekend at the Planting Fields Arboretum. Beautiful old estate gardens. I would recommend a visit for anyone coming out this way.
Here's a beautiful Clematis archway leading to a greenhouse.
Those are great pictures Dyane. That clematice is fabulous.
My sedum says thanks for the compliments--if it gets larger, I'll share! Glad you are out & about, Jo Ann--Karen--where do you go in FL? I hope we'll be heading there this year--have not been to our house since March of 07. Loved the autumn crocus--have not seen mine yet. Victor--loved the reblooming lilac--sounds just what I need along my fence--does it grow tall? Pixie, here is the shrub rose that looks like a tea rose--is it similiar to yours?
Are the gardens anywhere near Commack? I visit my stepdaughter there--her husband loves to garden, so sounds like a place to visit.
Robindog, I just checked on Mapquest. It says it's 25 miles and 35 minutes. Sounds right to me. It's worth the trip when you're out here. Another nice place is Old Westbury Gardens. It's a bit closer but not as large of an estate. The North Shore of Long Island is called the Gold Coast due to the fact that it was and still is loaded with huge estates and mansions. I don't give a hoot about the homes but quite a few are open to the public as gardens and arboretums.
I love Planting Fields and miss it. We were members when we lived in Queens and would go quite often. Gotta get there one day.
Victor - is the JM orangeola?
No - it's Octopus.
Wow........what a parade of gorgeous shots everyone! I don't know how I got so far behind.....but oh, what a nice catchup from everyone!
Booj and Kassia - I love those rose or hot pink asters! What a pretty color!!
Karen - I don't have dial-up, but we have to get our "high speed" internet from Wild Blue satellite. That means.........no internet when it rains to our west and often slow load of photos. One small down side of living in the rural country!
Sniff - we dug up all the pretty caladiums today. 32 degrees tomorrow night. EEs and caladiums are up and out; tomorrow the coleus cuttings/cover the glad bloom stalks. What about my dahlias??? When do I need to dig them up/axe the gorgous blooms, throw away their buds with callous disregard and then go in and have a meltdown????? Told you I HATE to kill anything! LOL
35 tomorrow night here. I'm starting to move the hoyas in now. Tomorrow orchids.
I don't like this early frost almost a month before we usually have it! Our glads haven't even opened yet!
